Livia Firth, Colin Firth’s ex-wife, has resigned from her position as head of state and teased up the prestigious certificate over Donald Trump’s “appeasement” in the UK.
Livia, who received her MBE in 2019 for her services to the fashion industry, announced in a lengthy message that she would be returning her MBE. She claimed that she was reflecting on Trump’s trip to the UK.
She claimed that during a recent state visit, where Trump met with King Charles, Prince William, and Katherine, the Princess of Wales, she could not “reconcile the way he was appeased, honored, and legitimized.”
She stated, “I was honored in 2019 for my efforts to make the fashion supply chain a more just and less deadly place to work for garment workers around the world.”
“On behalf of the numerous garment worker activists who had educated and supported me, I accepted the honor on the grounds that I oppose the British Empire and the remnants of that toxic system. I also had a lot of respect for King Charles and his decades of efforts to advance social and environmental justice. He was then the Prince of Wales.
She continued, “As I write this, we see that horrible excuse of a human (called Trump) running amok at the UN General Assembly, amplifying and legitimizing his poisonous rhetoric. I’ve been considering how his recent trip to the UK was appeased, honored, and once more legitimized.
“In fact, the display from last week did nothing to uphold those principles that I believed King Charles did. Instead, it’s a depressing and cowardly way to appease someone who supports the destruction of the most vulnerable and the natural world.
She removed her certificate in a shocking video and said, “I have destroyed my honor and am returning it to the sender because I can’t reconcile those two positions.”
“I know a lot of respectable, decent British people who cannot reconcile the grotesque pantomime we saw with their steadfast beliefs of fairness and justice. We can only express our feelings by taking a stand, in my opinion.
Trump met with King Charles in the UK last week. Trump received a horse-drawn carriage ride at Windsor Castle and a welcome from the military during his visit to the UK. He was given a tour of Chequers’ Churchill archive, as well as a specially curated exhibition of historical documents relating to the United States.
Number 10 also made it known that the leaders were scheduled to eat “the American classic key lime pie for dessert and the British favorite Dover Sole, served with potatoes and peas for the main.”
