Coleen Rooney looked tense as she stepped out for a solo day out in Cheshire, just hours after her husband Wayne revealed he would be dead without her due to his alcoholism
Coleen Rooney cut a glum figure just hours after Wayne’s alcohol addiction admission.
The businesswoman and TV star rarely speaks out about her personal life, but her face said it all during her solo day out in Cheshire, close to their sprawling estate. On Wednesday, Wayne, also 39, gave a very personal interview to his pal Rio Ferdinand, and revealed that he would be dead if it wasn’t for his wife.
But Coleen appeared to put on a unified display as she stepped out wearing a knee-length black coat, keeping herself warm despite the plunging temperatures. The star kept things casual in black gym attire, completing her look with a pair of white and silver trainers.
Despite her casual outfit, Coleen added a touch of glamour to her winter outing with winged sunglasses and striking small diamond earrings. Coleen’s phone even had its own sense of glamour. As she held her Caffe Nero cup, her phone holder was on full display, revealing that it was held up on a pearl bracelet.
During Wayne’s appearance on the podcast with Rio, he said he went to extreme lengths to hide his struggles from his Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, putting eye drops in his eyes and chewing on gum before heading to training.
Opening up, the Liverpuldian said: “I wanted to go out and enjoy my time with my friends and having a night out. It got to a point where I went too far, of course, it did. That was a moment in my life where I was struggling massively. With alcohol. Massively struggling, and I didn’t think I could turn to anyone.
“I didn’t really want to, because I didn’t want to put that burden on anyone. I remember going into training and putting eyes drops in, chewing gum. I just drank for two days straight. Go training and at the weekend, I’d scored two goals and then I’d go back and go and drink for two days straight again.”
He went on to explain this his beloved wife, who has remained by his side throughout several scandals, including infidelity on his behalf. He said: “Coleen is massive, it’s bad because we’re two kids from Croxteth, and then we grew up together and obviously we started dating and got married and have kids.
“But when I was 17, she could see, she knew my mind, and she knew I was a bit out there.” He added: “You know, I loved my football. I was obsessed with football, but also I loved a night out or whatever going out. She’s seen it very early on, and she’s controlled that. Well, not controlled, but helped me control that massively.
“And at times you’re like, ‘what are you doing? Why do you keep saying don’t do this or don’t do that? I honestly believe if she wasn’t there I’d be dead. I believe that.
“I’ve made mistakes in the past, which are well documented and whatever, but I’m a little bit different at times and she keeps me on that path. She’s done it for 20-odd years.”
