Would purchasing a ticket to Clueless the Musical, the hottest new musical production in the West End of London, be a waste of money?
Ugh ! As if !
The beloved film is the most recent cult classic to receive a lavish musical makeover, following in the footsteps of Cruel Intentions, Mean Girls, and The Devil Wears Prada. The 1995 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, with its meddling heroine reimagined at a wealthy Beverley Hills high school, served as inspiration for the original Clueless.
New Yorker Emma Flynn steps into Cher Horowitz satin shoes after taking over the lead role in Alicia Liverstone’s well-known role. Cher Emma, an IT girl, is absolute perfection as the conceited but always well-intentioned teenager whose wardrobe everyone wants to steal.
As expected, the costumes change seemingly endlessly while the clothes change. The show is a visual feast, from the iconic yellow three-piece checked suit to that Calvin Klein white slip. The cast poses with their enormous mobile phones and Walkmans while playing to VHS tapes on the sets, which also serves as a nostalgic trip.

The dialogue in the musical stays true to the original film, but the gags still sound like they’re coming from a different film: “Do you prefer” fashion victim “or” assembly challenged”?
The incredible supporting cast features Cher’s pals, Dionne and Tai, who are “friends because they both know what it’s like to have people be jealous of them.” Fans of the original film and beyond should watch the show because of its cutting one-liners, toe-tapping tunes (the soundtrack was written by singer song writer KT Tunstall).
She’s all that and a bag of chips was the closing song, despite the assumption that the majority of the audience was hearing it for the first time on the night. By the end, the audience was dancing along to the curtain call.

Kate Lawler, Vanessa Feltz, and Lizzie Cundy were seen at this week’s opening performance of Clueless: The Musical at the Trafalgar Theatre in the presence of the likes of Vanessa Feltz and Lizzie Cundy.
Kate arrived in a tweed dog-tooth co-ord, sheer black tights, and platform Mary Janes with the right attire. Wearing a matching pair of shoes and nude strappy heels, Sofialite Lizzie also received the seal of approval.
Jenni Falconer, Konnie Huq, and Drag Queen A’Whora, who resurrected Cher’s entire outfit, were on hand to support them.
The Trafalgar Theatre in London will house Clueless The Musical until September 27, 2025.
