Chloe Madeley and ex-boyfriend James Haskell are navigating co-parenting, but she acknowledged she needed to take medication following their “sour and painful” breakup.

Chloe Madeley has confessed her divorce from ex-husband James Haskell has been “very volatile” and that sometimes the pair go for weeks without speaking.

The 38-year-old personal trainer, who is the daughter of TV legends Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, first met rugby star James, 40, 11 years ago and they tied the knot in December 2018.

In August 2022, their three-year-old daughter Bodhi arrived. After five years of marriage and a decade of dating, the pair split up in August 2023, with the announcement made public in October that year.

At the time, Chloe said, “Our only priority right now is our beautiful daughter.” James and I mutually decided to break up at the end of September, 2023. We’ll continue to parent in love.

James wrote on social media: “It’s with a lot of sadness I write this post, but unfortunately, in the world we live in, it has to be done. My priority is my daughter’s and Chloe’s happiness and security. For that reason, I won’t be commenting any further.”

Since their marriage ended in December 2025, the pair’s official divorce was officially declared. James’ never-ending schedule, which frequently caused him to leave the country, didn’t help Chloe crave routine.

James also acknowledged that drinking had a role in his marriage, telling MailOnline, “If I put more time into it than I did Guinness, then I wouldn’t be divorced now.”

Chloe mentioned on Olivia Attwood’s podcast, “One of those people who needs structure and routine.” Because of his ability to survive in chaos, my ex and I believe that was one of the causes of our relationship to become so difficult. I can’t even recall when he spent a full week in England due to his schedule. I simply can’t do that because he’s everywhere. Can’t live that way.

She opened up about the pain of their separation and their “extremely emotional” divorce and admitted to having experienced depression as a result of their split.

She told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine: “It’s two years since we separated and it’s been f*****g long enough. Our life has very slowly fallen into place as co-parents and as ex-husband and wife.

The divorce process has been incredibly emotional and volatile, the couple said. “It’s fine now. We have weeks where everything works out perfectly and we get along really well. Then we go on to go over something for weeks, or a person becomes angry or frustrated, and we don’t speak.

Chloe claimed that she has a strict policy against tampering with James because she left the union in the first place. She has ruled out ever returning to her ex, despite the fact that they primarily get on these days.

She remarked, “I’m so far along. I’d rather not date him in the future. I’m not sure if I want to date him again, but I’m not sure if I want to.

Chloe claims that after going through a depressive period, their marriage “went into incredibly dark, sad, and painful” states.

Chloe acknowledged that it was “absolutely difficult.” And I essentially needed to rebuild with the utmost assistance. Then James left, and things started to get better. I adore being single. I enjoy not having a life of commitment. I have my daughter, my social life, and then, you know, I have guys. Would I, however, consider dating any of them? Definitely not! “
