China FM in Afghanistan, offers to deepen cooperation with Taliban rulers

According to the Afghan Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China wants to explore mining in Afghanistan and request that Kabul formally join its Belt and Road Initiative, a&nbsp, massive infrastructure plan, which is a pillar of President Xi Jinping’s plan to expand his country’s global influence.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi met in Kabul and spoke with one another about growing ties.

According to a readout of the meeting released by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Beijing will continue to support the Afghan government in achieving long-term stability and peace.

According to Wang, China is willing to strengthen its political ties with Afghanistan and increase cooperation in fields like agriculture and trade.

He demanded that Afghanistan combat armed groups, stressing that closer security ties would guarantee bilateral economic cooperation.

According to the Afghan statement, “Mr. Wang Yi also mentioned that China plans to start real mining operations this year.”

According to Hamdullah Fitrat, the administration’s deputy spokesperson, Wang also met with Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund.

China has worked closely with Afghanistan and other nations in their development, Akhund told Wang, urging Beijing to carry out its “efforts and cooperation on the international stage in support of Afghanistan’s legitimate position.”

Wang stated to the prime minister that China’s friendship with Afghanistan was “sincere and steadfast.”

According to Fitrat, he said, “We fully support the Afghan people’s progress.”

Wang is attending meetings between China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan in Kabul.

Both countries have sent their ambassadors to Kabul and given Afghan ambassadors their blessing in their capitals, despite Beijing and Islamabad’s formal recognition of the interim administration.

China has aimed to strengthen its ties to the hardline group that seized control of Afghanistan in 2021, making it the first country to do so under the Taliban.
