After fans criticized Mickey Rourke for not criticizing his shocking comment to JoJo Siwa, Chesney Hawkes’ daughter Jesse, she breaks her silence on the furious backlash against her father.
Celebrity Big Brother star Chesney Hawkes’ daughter Jesse has spoken out after fans criticised the singer for not stepping in during a controversial exchange between former housemate Mickey Rourke and JoJo Siwa on the show.
The row sparked backlash online after Hollywood actor Mickey, 72, made a controversial comment to JoJo about her sexuality, appearing to question her identity in a way that left viewers – and housemates – stunned.
The incident quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the series so far, with fans taking to social media to express their outrage. Some accused Chesney, 53, of failing to defend JoJo or challenge Mickey’s remarks, especially after earlier referencing that his daughter identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community.
However, Jesse, age 21, defended her father by sat down for an exclusive conversation with us and argued that viewers frequently don’t get the full picture.
Many people reacted incredulously at Mickey because he didn’t speak up when he told JoJo that he was a part of the community, even my dad, who had previously mentioned that I, his kid, was one.
You see 45 minutes of his 24-hour day, Jesse said, “but you don’t see everything. He’s the type of person who would have intervened if necessary.” He would have apologised.
The student at the university acknowledged that it’s difficult to watch her father face online criticism for that particular incident.
Jesse continued, “I really don’t like people saying bad things about my dad on that subject or saying I wouldn’t like him because I wouldn’t,” adding, “It was making me angry because they don’t know what happened there.”
Chesney, best known for his 90s chart-topper The One and Only, has become a hit with viewers during his time in the iconic house so far – thanks to his candid confessions, cheeky sense of humour and free-spirited approach – including stripping off on camera.
Jesse, who was present to let her father go on launch night, described the emotional impact of seeing her father on screen. She explained that because she attends university, she doesn’t see him that frequently. It was very emotional to watch him enter that stage.
Even though she secretly wants him out of the house so they can get back together, she is also incredibly proud of how far he’s come. She joked with us, “Jokes aside, I want him to go far,” and that “part of me wants him to be evicted so I can see him once more.” He appears to be very content.
And what if Jesse, a student, entered the house with a message? That I’m so proud of him and stressed out over my dissertation!
The ITV1 Celebrity Big Brother live final will take place on April 25, 9 p.m.
