Cheryl Tweedy’s stalker has been jailed for 12 months — and handed a fresh lifetime restraining order.
Daniel Bannister, 50, left the ex-Girls Aloud singer “stunned” and “terrified” when he turned up at her Buckinghamshire home for a fourth time in June, Reading Magistrates court heard.
He was sentenced to one year in prison today after being found guilty of breaching a previous restraining order. It is the third jail term handed to Bannister over his attempts to contact Cheryl, 42.
Sentencing, His Honour Judge Blake said: “You pose a high risk of reoffending and harm. Appropriate punishment can only be by immediate custody.
“You’ve shown little regard to Tweedy’s welfare.
“You need to draw a line under this behaviour otherwise you will find yourself returning to custody for longer periods.”
Cheryl did not attend court. But in a victim impact statement read by prosecution barrister Leandra Smith, the singer said she was “stunned” when Bannister turned up at her home near Chalfont, Bucks, for a fourth time on the evening of June 19 this year.
She added: “He’s been sentenced twice for this unwanted and scary behaviour toward me.

“Every time I leave my property I have to constantly look over my shoulder.
“No person should feel this way. The fear goes when he’s in prison.
“It’s had a huge impact — I have a young child to protect. It has made my young child scared.
“I have had to rely on security, family and friends for support.
“Why should I have to move because of Daniel’s behaviour? It’s unacceptable, terrifying and having a detrimental impact.”
Defending, Mr Allen Wellington said Bannister had shown “no violence or threat of violence” towards Ms Tweedy.
Bannister, who was convicted of manslaughter in 2012, was previously jailed for 16 weeks in March after returning to the singer’s home in December last year, breaching a restraining order.
He had previously been given a four-month jail term for targeting the star’s home.
The court heard how Bannister attended the address in January 2024, rang the intercom and said: “It’s Daniel, I’ve come to get Cheryl.”
And he returned again in July asking for a glass of wine.
Bannister, a former figure skater, denies having any mental health issues.
Cheryl, previously known as Cheryl Cole, was married to former Arsenal, Chelsea and England footballer Ashley Cole.
They divorced more than a decade ago.
