Charlize Theron’s car was stolen from her LA home as she was the latest target in the recent celebrity crime spree. The 50-year-old’s property is said to have been accessed through an open gate last Thursday.

An individual made their way onto the Oscar winner’s home before going on to steal a BMW – in which the key fob is reported to have been left inside the vehicle.

However, the Los Angeles Police Department were able to track down the vehicle and return it to its rightful owner. Charlize is just one celebrity who has been affected by the increasing crime in Los Angeles in recent months.

Tracee Ellis Ross and Brad Pitt were also recent victims. Earlier on this month, Tracee Ellis Ross’ home was broken into in Hollywood.

Thieves stole more than $100,000 (£73,762) worth of jewellery and handbags from the home in total. The actress’ LA house was broken into on Tuesday September 2 but she was not home at the time of the crime.

The crime was reported around 12:30am local time after staff arrived and found the home had been ransacked. LAPD said that three people entered the property through a glass door.

August saw singer Lionel Richie’s home broken into. It has been said that the music legend was still in the property when the criminal entered.

Police received a call about a burglary at the 76-year-old’s home in Beverly Hills shortly after midnight. However, the home was equipped with a security alarm that meant the burglar reportedly fled before they had a chance to steel any valuables.

Police responding to the call reportedly arrested a man named Michael John Bond on suspicion of residential burglary, according to TMZ. However, formal charges have not yet been filed.

Another high-profile break-in took place at the home of Brad Pitt in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighbourhood in June. Burglars targeted the actor when he was away from home and was on a trip to Japan to promote his racing drama F1.

Police announced that three people have been arrested that were suspected of burgling the actor’s house. It was said that the three of them were also linked to another crime as well which is what led to their capture.

Detectives were reportedly able to use security footage taken from Pitt’s property to help identify the men. In February Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban were also among the long list of A-listers who have been impacted by crime.

The couple’s Beverly Hills mansion was broken into while they were out of town. An intruder reportedly smashed a window to get in but an employee of the couple was on the property at the time and was able to scare away the burglar.

The Mirror contacted the Los Angeles Police Department and Charlize Theron’s reps for comment.
