In the opening round of the SailGP championship, reigning champions Great Britain won.

They defeated Australia and France in the winner-takes-all final on the second day of racing in Perth, winning two of the three fleet races led by Dylan Fletcher.

Fletcher referred to it as “an incredible result” and continued, “We’re thrilled. I’m feeling “cloud nine” right now.

The team’s chief executive officer, Ben Ainslie, who has won four gold medals at the Olympics, described their efforts as “so proud” of their accomplishments.

In the hi-tech series, nations compete against one another in a year’s race using F50 catamarans capable of reaching speeds of up to 60 mph (100 km/h).
