Catholic Bishop Confirms Release Of Abducted Niger State Schoolchildren, Teachers

Most Rev. The Bishop of Kontagora Diocese and St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School The release of the kidnapped schoolchildren and their teachers has been confirmed by Buss Yohanna.

Governor Umaru Bago reportedly called the Bishop to let him know they were safe.

However, it was not made public how many people had already been freed.

The governor would formally receive the released students and teachers at the Government House on Monday, according to Yohanna, who made it known that they were scheduled to arrive in Minna on Monday.

The Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Dan Atori, the media aide, released a brief statement confirming the confirmation.

When they arrive in Minna, more information is anticipated to be made available.

On Sunday, the Federal Government announced that it had secured the release of 130 schoolkids who had been abducted by gunmen.

Sunday Dare, the presidential spokesman, made the announcement on Sunday on his official X page.

In the post on X, Dare wrote, “Another 130 abducted Niger state pupils released, none left in captivity.”

A photo of smiling children and a woman was displayed beside the post.

The gunmen who stormed the Catholic school in the early hours of November 21 kidnapped more than 300 students, teachers, and other staff members.

The gunmen shot the school’s gatekeeper, according to sources, who was riding on over 60 motorcycles and traveling by van when they arrived in large numbers. He was seriously hurt.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) learned that 50 of the children had escaped captivity a few days later.

Due to CAN’s earlier reporting that 315 people had been taken away, it is still unclear how many of those were actually abducted from the school.
