Matheus Cunha has signed for Brazil and is on a contract with Manchester United.

After United added a £62.5 million release clause to Cunha’s Wolves contract, the 26-year-old is expected to become their first summer signing.

The former Atletico Madrid forward has the option to extend his contract to five years and commit to a further 12 months.

Over the weekend, Cunha spent time in Manchester to get his medical under the belt.

The agreement, which is subject to visa approval and registration requirements, is anticipated to be completed when Cunha departs from his international duties with Brazil later this month.

On Sunday morning, Cunha left the Salford Lowry Hotel to join the national side.

In a World Cup qualifier on Thursday (Friday 00:00 BST), Carlo Ancelotti’s first game in charge will face Ecuador.

After making a permanent move to Wolves in 2023, the forward made 31 goals in 76 appearances.

Following a successful six-month loan spell at Atletico Madrid the previous year, he made a £35m move to the club.

Henry leads GB rowing gold rush at European Championships

On the final day of the Bulgarian European Rowing Championships, Great Britain won five gold medals, propelling it to the top of the medal standings.

In her first senior international regatta, Lauren Henry, a reigning Olympic champion in the quadruple sculls, won gold.

Without Henry in the boat, the new-look GB crew defended their European title in Plovdiv, and the women’s quadruple sculls dominated in the sport.

Britain also won the first-ever men’s quadruple sculls gold, while the men’s and women’s boats both won gold in the eights, increasing GB’s total medal tally to six gold, silver, and two bronze medals.

After beating her British record in the final on Sunday, Henry, 23, said, “It’s very, very special.

I feel like I accomplished that by coming here and making a name for myself.

I want to be the most successful British single sculler ever, world champion, Olympic champion, and world record holder. That’s my goal. Watch this space as I get closer to the end of the year.

The British team won four medals on Saturday, following the gold rush on Sunday.

Sam Murray and Annie Caddick took silver in the PR3 mixed double, while Paralympic champion Benjamin Pritchard won the PR1 men’s single sculls in a new world-record eight minutes 40.38 seconds.

Stroll misses Spanish GP with injury after losing temper

Lance Stroll, an Aston Martin driver, injured himself after losing his temper in the team’s garage, who had lost his temper, missed the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Canadian was allegedly sworn at team members after being eliminated at the end of the second qualifying session, where he was 0. 535 seconds behind teammate Fernando Alonso, and damaged equipment in the garage according to sources.

Aston Martin spokesman responded, “Lance was upset,” when asked if Stroll had lost his temper in this way.

Stroll, who Aston Martin described as “having pain in his hand and wrist,” would miss the Spanish Grand Prix.

The team claimed that Stroll broke both of his wrists in a cycling accident in early 2023, which was the result of his medical consultant’s investigation.

In an effort to solve the issue, Stroll undergoes an operation.

His participation in his home race in Canada on June 13 and 15 is questioned due to the circumstances.

It is unclear who Stroll would take if he were to miss the Le Mans race because Stoffel Vandoorne and Felipe Drugovich are both competing at Le Mans on the same weekend.

Following his failure to submit to the driver’s weighing scales right away after qualifying, as required by the rules, the governing body, the FIA conducted an investigation.

He was officially warned about the omission by the race stewards.

The stewards’ verdict read, “We reviewed the video footage from the garage that showed the [Stroll] driver leaving the car from the back and not using the pit lane as required.”

The stewards claimed that Stroll had written to them in a letter stating that “he was in pain and sought urgent medical attention for the pain” and that he had written them a letter.

Before heading to the medical center for further evaluation, he immediately attended the weigh-in and the media pen.

Stroll has not lost his temper after a poor qualifying session.

Svitolina’s superb comeback upsets fourth seed Paolini

In three sets, Elina Svitolina defeated Jasmine Paolini, who had lost to her in the previous year’s final, to advance to the French Open quarter-finals.

The third-seeded Ukrainian champion won the second set by saving three match points before securing a 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 win over the fourth-seeded Italian.

After advancing to Roland Garros’ final eight, Svitolina will face Elena Rybakina or defending champion Iga Swiatek, who is 12th seed.

“I still can’t believe this game came to an end.” Svitolina remarked that she still feels her head hurt during the game and a significant battle.

Paolini won the French Open and Wimbledon finals in 2024, and he was regarded as a title contender in Paris.

After winning the Italian Open last month, the 29-year-old started well, winning the first three games.

Paolini slammed a forehand winner past Svitolina for the decisive one to win the opening set 6-4 after the pair exchanged breaks.

Paolini served at 5-3 as both struggled to hold the match, but Svitolina saved two match points and made a tie-break.

The 30-year-old won the set and took control of the decisive third set after surviving a second match point in the tie-break.

Munster fought to ‘bitter end’ in URC loss – Beirne

After their United Rugby Championship quarter-final defeat to Sharks was decided by a place-kick competition, Munster captain Tadhg Beirne said, “there was nothing more” he could ask of his team-mates.

The Irish team had a 21-10 lead in the second half, but the match turned into a penalty kick shootout after the game in Durban ended 24-24 and neither team had scored after extra time.

Rory Scannell was the only player who missed Munster’s six-from-six shots from the tee for the game.

They are riddled with foreigners, according to Beirne of the Sharks, who will now face South African rival Bulls in the semi-finals.

I have nothing more to ask of the young men. To go to a penalty shootout or whatever you call, we were gutted, but that’s how it ended, and we lost the game.

Peter O’Mahony, Conor Murray, and Stephen Archer’s final Munster appearances were marred by the defeat.

Beirne, who will tour with the British and Irish Lions for a second time this summer, added, “There’s no tomorrow for us this season and we have to say goodbye to some pretty special characters in this room.”

We’ve already discussed it before, and it’s going to be a strange place without them.

Scottish gold-winning distance runner Stewart dies aged 81

Lachie Stewart, a Scottish distance runner, passed away at the age of 81.

Stewart represented Great Britain at the 1972 Munich Olympics and won 10,000m gold for Scotland at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.

He worked as a dental mechanic and was born Joseph Laughlin Stewart in Alexandria in 1943.

The organization’s 2018 induction ceremony honored Stewart, who added, “Everyone at Scottish Athletics and within our community sends our thoughts to Lachie’s family and his numerous friends across the sport.

Stewart, who had a brief illness, was reportedly taken to a hospital in Paisley.

He had complications with diabetes and had the lower half of his leg amputated in 2020 at the age of 77.

He told BBC Scotland at the time that his second and third toe ulcer didn’t seem to heal well.

“It quickly changed to the doctor’s advice, which is either having the pain, which was unbearable, or having the knee amputated.” Because I couldn’t stand the pain, I immediately told him to take the bottom of his leg off.
