Neymar, the all-time top goalscorer for Brazil, has agreed to a new contract with Santos until December.

After his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal expired, the 33-year-old returned to the Brazilian club on a six-month deal in January.

In 243 Santos appearances, Neymar has scored 141 goals and contributed 69 assists.

Prior to the end of the Brazilian Serie A season, the former Paris St.Germain and Barcelona forward had been linked with a return to Europe and had an option to extend.

Neymar remarked, “I made a decision and I listened to my heart.”

“Santos is not just my team; it’s also my life, home, and roots,” he said. I’m truly loved, and here I’m a boy who turned into a man. I can be truly content here.

I want to realize the career-related dreams that are unfulfilled. And I will not be able to stop anything. I leave, return, and stay. Where everything began and where it never ends

After missing for 17 months in March, Neymar was called back to the Brazil squad, but he did not play in their World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.

Since sustaining a knee injury against Uruguay in October 2023, he has made 79 goals in 128 of his Brazil appearances.

According to Santos FC’s president, “It is a historic and remarkable day for Brazilian football.”

The prince wearing our number 10 shirt is still there, our idol, our boy, and our boy.

We needed Neymar both on and off the field at this crucial time in the reconstruction process.

Seven-time French champions Lyon relegated over finances

Due to their poor financial condition, French club Lyon has been demoted to Ligue 2.

The DNGC, the organization overseeing the finances of French professional football clubs, provisibly demoted the team in November.

On Tuesday, Lyon officials, including owner John Textor, met with the DNGC, but they were unable to persuade them that the club’s financial situation had sufficiently improved to remove the sanction.

His Eagle Football Group, which owns a 77% stake in Lyon, announced debts in the amount of £422 million in October.

Lyon stated in a statement that they would file an appeal and that the DNGC’s decision was “incomprehensible.”

We sincerely do not understand how an administrative decision could relegate such a significant French club, the club said. “With proven funds and sporting success that has earned us a place in European competition for two consecutive years, we do not understand how an administrative decision could be made,” the club said.

“We will make an appeal to demonstrate our capacity to provide the financial resources needed to ensure OL’s place in the league.”

In an effort to improve their finances, Lyon, the seven-time French champion, sold Maxence Caqueret to Como in January and Rayan Cherki to Manchester City in June raising around £45 million.

Additionally, Anthony Lopes and Alexandre Lacazette, two high-profile figures, have been released.

Lyon has the ability to challenge the decision. Reims, who lost to Metz in the relegation play-off, will take Lyon’s place in the top flight if things go as planned.

Only five teams have won more French titles than Lyon, including seven that they won in successive seasons between 2002 and 2008.

The club hasn’t played in the second tier since 1989 and reached the Champions League semi-finals as recently as 2020.

Textor reiterated his confidence before Tuesday’s meeting that there was “no chance” the club would be relegated following the provisional punishment that was implemented in November.

In recent weeks, he said, “We have made a variety of investments.” “Financially speaking, everything is good.”

Even though he agreed a deal to sell his 46% stake in the Eagles on Monday, Textor is also the largest shareholder of Brazilian soccer team Botafogo and co-owner of Premier League team Crystal Palace.

We have collaborated closely with the DNCG over the past few months, and we have met all of its needs with equity investments that have exceeded the required funds, Lyon’s statement continued.

Our cash flow has significantly improved, and we now have more than enough financial resources for the 2025-26 season, according to our shareholders’ capital injections and the sale of Crystal Palace.

Palace won the FA Cup to advance to the Europa League, but Lyon also qualified by finishing sixth overall.

Textor’s alleged involvement with both clubs could be infringe on Uefa regulations, which prohibit the use of multiple teams with one, multi-club ownership structure when competing in the same European competition.

The Eagles hope that this will be avoided by Textor’s choice to sell his stake to Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets.

Arsenal set to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa

This week, Arsenal are expected to complete the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Following a successful loan spell at Bournemouth last summer, the 30-year-old added an additional year to his contract to earn a £5 million release clause.

The former Spain international will soon compete for the starting spot with compatriot David Raya at Arsenal.

After rejecting Neto’s permanent signing from Bournemouth last season on loan at Emirates Stadium, Arsenal chose to remain with the club.

Since joining Chelsea in 2018 for $ 72 million from the illustrious Athletic Bilbao, Kepa has remained the most expensive goalkeeper in the world.

He represented Chelsea 163 times, earning four prestigious titles during a sour seven-year absence from Stamford Bridge.

Gout, 17, sets Australian record at Golden Spike

Gout Gout, a teen, won the men’s 200 meter at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava, breaking a new Australian record.

In the highly anticipated first European meeting in the Czech Republic, the 17-year-old clocked 20.02 seconds.

Reynier Mena, a sprinter from Portugal, had to settle for second place after winning the previous two 200-meter races in the Diamond League.

Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake of Great Britain placed third, with a season-best 20.60.

Gout, who has won eight Olympic gold medals, was compared to legendary runner-up Usain Bolt, whose 200-meter time in Ostrava was faster than Jamaica’s world record holder’s time of 20.28 at his first Golden Spike meet in 2006.

Gout, who was born four months before his 18th birthday, ran a 19.93 in Bermuda while still in his 20s.

Gout’s previous personal best was 20.04, breaking Olympic silver medalist Peter Norman’s long-standing Australian record.

After dominating youth gatherings, Gout has advanced to the senior level.

He holds the 100- and 200-meter records for Australian under-16s, and he won the national under-20 100-meter title last year before taking home the 200-meter silver medal at the Lima World Under-20 Championships.

Gout turned professional and signed a sponsorship deal with Adidas following his 200 and 400-meter triumphs last year at the 2024 GPS Track &amp, Field Championships in his native Queensland.

He will compete in the Monaco Diamond League meet at Stade Louis II on July 11 to continue his preparation for the World Championships in September.

Duplantis breaks the previous record for meetings.

One of four athletes to break new Golden Spike records was pole vault world record holder Armand Duplantis.

Sweden’s Olympic and world champion won with 6.13m in Ostrava, breaking the previous record at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm this month with a clearance of 6.28m.

Duplantis expressed disappointment with his performance despite a three-time world record and six unsuccessful attempts at 6.29m.

Given that I felt like I was running out of fuel, Duplantis said, “I felt good with the jumps.”

In addition to setting a meeting record in the men’s 1500m, Kenyan teenager Phanuel Koech, 18, ran a time of three minutes 29.05 seconds, while world indoor champion Prudence Sekgodiso, a teenager from South Africa, claimed victory in the women’s 800m in one minute 57.16 seconds.

Salwa Eid Naser, a former world champion in Bahrain, won in 49.15 seconds to break Tatana Kocembova’s 42-year course record.

“I feel good,” he said. New personal best and new national record for my first European race, according to Gout Gout.

“I don’t feel any pressure,” she said. Because I have to run first when I get off that track and start to think about what I have to do.

Nothing prevents me from running and just go out there. The 20-second barrier will definitely drop if I continue to race (I need to).
