Man Utd Beat Chelsea To Ease Pressure On Amorim

With a haphazard 2-1 victory over Chelsea, Manchester United put a strain on beleaguered manager Ruben Amorim, who finished with 10 men at Old Trafford.

After a disappointing start to the season, Amorim was forced to fight to avoid being fired after just five minutes of the game against Chelsea.

In his 200th Premier League appearance, Bruno Fernandes scored United’s 100th goal in all competitions.

Before Casemiro was sent off in stoppage time for a second booking, United doubled their lead.

A tense finale was set for Trevoh Chalobah’s late reply for Chelsea, but United held on for just their second win in six matches so far this season.

Amorim’s side moved up to ninth place to give the Portuguese coach some breathing room after the team started languishing just above the relegation zone.

Amorim shouldn’t rest on his laurels just yet, despite having only won nine of his 32 Premier League games.

Amorim spent a lot of money in the summer revamping his moribund team after leading United to its lowest top-flight performance since 1973-74 and a hapless Europa League final defeat to Tottenham last term.

Before last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Manchester City underscored the vast gap between United and their rivals, United suffered an embarrassing League Cup exit at fourth-tier Grimsby in August.

After speaking with the British billionaire at the club’s training ground on Thursday, former Sporting Lisbon boss Amorim, who took the place of the sacked Erik ten Hag in November, insists he retains co-owner Jim Ratcliffe’s backing.

Ratcliffe checked into Old Trafford’s rain-soaked box to see if he had any good intentions for Amorim.

Amorim Relief

He continued to use his much-criticized 3-4-3 formation after joking this week that the Pope was unable to force him to alter his tactics as storm clouds started to build up for Amorim.

United started well with left wing-back Patrick Dorgu crossing for Bryan Mbeumo, whose header was saved by Sanchez.

Moments later, the unpredictable Sanchez hurriedly outside of his penalty area in a bid to clear before Mbeumo could fire a reckless challenge that knocked the United forward to the ground.

Chelsea received a clear red card for denying them a chance to score goals, and they received no complaints about their quickest-ever Premier League dismissal.

In a defensive move that immediately had a negative effect, Maresca removed wingers Estevao Willian and Pedro Neto in the place of Sanchez.

After Fernandes’ free kick was volleyed past the Chelsea wall, United went for the jugular, and Mbeumo volleyed just over.

When Fernandes, who was playing just onside by Chalobah, perfected his run to meet Dorgu’s header with a clinical finish from four yards, Amorim’s men took the lead in the fourteenth minute.

When England’s Cole Palmer was forced to leave with a suspected groin injury, making it three remarkable substitutions for Chelsea in just 21 minutes.

In the 37th minute, Chelsea imploded to give United their second goal in the manner of Amorim, and for once, the luck was all going Amorim’s way.

Casemiro fired home from close range for his first league goal in 11 months as Reece James’ sliced clearance was headed on by Harry Maguire.

After needlessly pulling back Andrey Santos, Casemiro was red after being charged with an earlier foul on Enzo Fernandez.

United struggled to find rhythm in the second half, but Chalobah cut the deficit in the 80th minute when James cross with a powerful header that flew past Altay Bayindir from 12 yards.

Kane Hits Another Hat-Trick As Bayern Thrash Hoffenheim 4-1

Bayern Munich defeated Hoffenheim 4-1 on Saturday to defeat Bayern Munich for the second time in a row, while Hamburg won in the top flight for the first time in seven years.

The England captain continued his prolific form in a heavily revolving Bayern side with two goals in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League.

In addition to making a first start for Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson, coach Vincent Kompany made five other changes.

Hoffenheim had the better chances at half-time, but Bayern struggled to find rhythm as a result. Kane struck before half-time, slicing in from a corner.

Just after half-time, when Bayern were given a questionable penalty for a handball, Kane converted from the spot to squelch any chance Hoffenheim had of a victory, was all but lost.

After a VAR review for a foul on Michael Olise, Kane added another from the spot in the 77th minute.

Vladimir Coufal’s free-kick was deflected into the goal late in the match, which put Hoffenheim’s side on the board.

In stoppage time, former Hoffenheim forward Serge Gnabry added a fourth to complete Bayern’s seventh win in seven games so far this season.

In four Bundesliga games this season, Kane has now scored 13 goals, including eight.

Since joining Bayern in 2023, he has scored 98 goals overall. His ninth hat-trick for the club, according to news.

According to Kane, “Hat-trick Harry is what they called me in school.” When I was younger, that one kind of stuck.

In the Bundesliga, Kane has converted all 17 of his penalties. The England captain claimed that practicing and keeping the streak alive is difficult. “I prepare a lot, I practice a lot.”

I back myself whenever I’m on the ball in the box, whether or not it’s a penalty.

The promoted hosts’ victory in Hamburg secured their first top-flight victory in 2, 688 days, or seven years, four months, when they defeated lowly Heidenheim 2-1.

Luka Vuskovic tapped in a rebound from a free kick just before the break after Hamburg had lost three games since returning to the Bundesliga this summer.

With less than an hour to go, Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira cut the ball to Rayan Philippe, who fired the ball home.

Adam Koelle scored in stoppage time, stoking the start of a wild end-to-end battle, but Hamburg prevailed.

Freiburg defeated Werder Bremen 3-0, and Mainz defeated Augsburg 4-1 despite being cut to 10 men by Dominik Kohr’s early dismissal.

Later on Saturday, RB Leipzig hosts promoted Cologne.

Mbappe On Target As Real Madrid Defeat Espanyol

Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of La Liga with a 2-0 victory over Espanyol with a strong striker Kylian Mbappe.

Madrid have won all five of their opening league games while Frenchman Mbappe has scored five goals.

After 22 minutes, Eder Militao opened the scoring with a screamer from distance, and Mbappe buried the second goal from outside the box.

Real Madrid are five points clear of Barcelona, who host Getafe on Sunday, in second place.

Jude Bellingham, an England international, made his first appearance since having shoulder surgery in the summer, making a late substitute appearance in the final stages.

Dani Carvajal, the defender for Madrid, told Real Madrid TV, “We can’t be doing any better.”

The coach says, “We’re improving as a team in playing the way the coach wants, understanding the ideas, and getting better results from that.”

Carvajal applauded the team’s performance, showing more defensive strength than it did last season.

“I believe the performance was flawless, and we only suffered defensively,” said Carvajal.

Our goal was met, and we are leaving as leaders. We are still at the top of the table.

Mbappe helped Alonso’s team maintain a 100 percent record in every competition with two goals from the penalty spot in midweek as Madrid opened their Champions League campaign with a win over Marseille.

After Militao headed home, his goal effectively ended the game.

Alonso restored Vinicius Junior and gave the young striker Gonzalo Garcia a start unlike any other in a attacking line-up.

Espanyol have not defeated Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu since 1996, but they have started the season strong, moving to third place in the capital.

However, Madrid were unapologetically dominant throughout when they faced Los Blancos.

It took centre-back Militao’s ferocious drive into the top left corner from long range to break the deadlock, despite their dominance.

After Vinicius did some good work before halftime, Mbappe fired narrowly wide.

Alonso has benched the Brazilian on several occasions, but he is still playing below his best, despite setting up Mbappe for the second.

Vinicius pushed the ball past Mbappe, who fired a close-range shot past Marko Dmitrovic after going forward with it.

After Mbappe’s excellent double save, Vinicius hit the post.

In the closing stages of a pleasant afternoon for Real Madrid, Alonso brought on Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga for their first games of the season.

Levante won the game-tying 4-0 at Girona before the final group of nine men.

The Catalan minnows are at the bottom without a victory this season, having finished third in the 2023/24 campaign to reach the Champions League.

Coach Michel Sanchez remarked, “We are the worst team in the league after five weeks, and all we can do is work hard.”

“I have to make this team better, and I’ll do it.” We’re not giving up, though it will be challenging to leave this situation.

Liverpool Beat Everton To Maintain Perfect Premier League Start

With a 2-1 victory over Everton and a six-point lead at the top of the table, Liverpool extended their perfect Premier League start to keep their grip on the Merseyside derby.

The defending champions’ reward for a strong first half was a pair of goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike, which earned them their fifth successive Premier League victory.

After the break, however, Everton’s goal was saved by Idrissa Gana Gueye, who had given them no more room to breathe.

To win all four of their previous four Premier League games and their Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid in midweek, Arne Slot’s men needed late goals.

The Reds’ main focus was on their excellent work inside the first 30 minutes, leaving Everton with no win in front of a crowd at Anfield in the twenty-first century.

With the return of Alexis MacAllister along with Dominik Szoboszlai and the impressive Gravenberch in midfield, Slot left both his £135 million ($135 million) plus signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak on the bench.

Just nine minutes into the game, the Dutch midfielder deftly completed Mohamed Salah’s cross on the half-volley.

Salah then advanced just wide with a powerfully struck effort on his dependable left foot.

The resurrected Jack Grealish, who had led Everton for four games, had been instrumental in that success.

Unsurprisingly, the loanee from Manchester City was at the heart of the team’s best first-half move when he sent a pass through to Kieran Dewsbury-Hall, who fired wide from a close angle.

Ekiti rolling Gravenberch’s pass through Jordan Pickford’s legs marked Liverpool’s fine team play as it came to his third goal in five Premier League games since joining Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, after being pegged by Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Atletico earlier this season, Liverpool almost lost control of the second half.

This time, the tension appeared to be at play in the kick-off, which came just over 60 hours after Virgil van Dijk’s stoppage-time winner against Atletico on Wednesday.

Just before the hour mark, when Grealish’s deep cross was reversed into Gueye’s path, who blasted past Alisson Becker, Everton found a lifeline.

With little success, Slot turned to Wirtz and Isak off the bench to try to regain control.

However, Liverpool did manage to watch a sleazy finale that gave Everton manager David Moyes an unwelcome reputation.

The Scot is the most successful Premier League manager to play at a stadium without a victory in 23 of his 23 appearances as a visiting coach.

Third Football Player Killed In Ecuador In September

According to police, Jonathan Gonzalez, an Ecuadorian football player, was killed on Friday in what was his third murder in the south American nation since September.

Authorities claimed that the 31-year-old, who was referred to as “Speedy” Gonzalez, was injured in a shooting at a home in Esmeraldas, a province bordering Colombia and where rival drug gangs operate.

A motive for the crime was not provided by the police.

Unidentified second victim passed away while being taken to the hospital.

Colombia and Peru are the two biggest cocaine producers in the world, and Ecuador has become the gateway to 70% of the world’s supply.

The homicide rate increased from six per 100, 000 people in 2018 to a record high of 47 in 2023, before falling to 38 last year as a result of the rise in gangs.

Maicol Valencia and Leandro Yepez, both from the second-division team Exapromo Costa FC, were killed on September 10 during an armed assault in Manta, a coastal city in southwest Portugal.

Valencia was killed in the gunshots, and Yepez was injured two days later.

The players were the target of another attack, according to the club.

Jonathan Gonzalez previously played for Olimpia in Paraguay and Leon in Mexico as a member of the second-division team 22 de Julio FC.

Olympic Heptathlon Champion Nafissatou Thiam Drops Out Of World Race

After winning five of the seven disciplines at the world championships in Tokyo on Saturday, three-time Olympic champion Nafissatou Thiam’s agent informed AFP.

Her coach, Michael Van Der Plaetsen, later told Belgian media: “It makes no sense for her to continue,” and her representative, Helena Van der Plaetsen, confirmed she would not continue.

After four events, Thiam, 31, was only in sixth place, especially after a subpar 200 meters, but nothing nearly broke Carolina Kluft’s European heptathlon record of 7, 032 points in Tokyo.

After a disappointing long jump, in which she placed 11th with a 5.99m, she dropped another two spots in the rankings on Saturday morning.

After that, a tearful Thiam said, “I think the hardest thing for me is telling myself that I wanted to come here and have fun, and that wasn’t the case at all.”

Thiam, who has won gold at the last three Olympics, has been at odds with the Belgian athletics federation because she has refused to adhere to its code of conduct.

In the course of her contention, Thiam claimed that the federation had refused to accredit her physiotherapist and that it had not reserved a bedroom for her during the pre-world championships training camp.

Her accusations are false, according to Belgian Athletics.

We have tried to protect her over the past few weeks, according to Michael Van Der Plaetsen, but ultimately it has had a significant impact on her performances. I’m embarrassed for being Belgian.
