Mob Kills Eight Wedding-Bound Travellers In Plateau

Eight wedding-bound travelers were killed by a mob in Plateau State’s Mangun District and Mangu Local Government Area. &nbsp,

The victims were traveling from Zaria in Kaduna State to Plateau State’s Quan’pan Local Government Area for a wedding on Friday evening when the incident occurred. &nbsp,

However, they mistook their turn and unintentionally entered a tense and volatile Mangun neighborhood, a city dealing with persistent terrorist attacks.

Tragically, the skirmishes that erupted led to the loss of eight innocent lives were carried out by the travelers. At the General Hospital in Mangu, a number of others suffered varying degrees of injuries.

Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has meanwhile expressed his heartfelt condolences for the tragic mob behavior.

Governor Mutfwang, who had visited the hospital and the scene of the tragic incident, expressed deep grief and said the mob’s actions could be completely justified.

He expressed sadness over coordinated terrorist assaults that have claimed the lives of people in Mangu and the neighboring communities of Chakfem in Mangu Local Government Area and Mushere in Bokkos Local Government Area, as well as causing widespread displacement and mourning among communities.

Governor Mutfwang, however, argued that the ongoing attacks did not support a senseless attack on innocent commuters.

“We in Plateau State are going through a tragic day today. The governor said, “I never imagined such a senseless act of violence could occur within our borders, especially given the commendable efforts of our youths in this community and the nearby districts who consistently rise up to support security agencies in defending against criminal incursions.”

“It is deeply depressing that the same young people who have shown courage and patriotism also turn their heads and enforce the law.” The government won’t sweep it under the carpet because it is completely unacceptable.

We are attempting to create a plateau that is both hospitable and welcoming to visitors. The governor continued, “We have been educating our young people about the importance of allowing free passage on all roads across the state,” and this incident has come as a rude shock to us.

I want to reassure Nigerians that Plateau will remain a safe haven for all travelers, Mutfwang said. The executive governor of Kaduna State, who I am speaking with, has been in touch with.

“I also reached out to his royal highness, the Emir of Zazzau, to express my condolences for this tragic loss of lives. We will be sending a high-level delegation to Kaduna State and the Zazzau Emirate in the spirit of solidarity.

The governor emphasized that such violent acts of violence are unacceptable in a civilized society and expressed his sincere condolences to the bereaved families, the Kaduna State government, and the people of Kaduna State.

Despite the suffering and frustration of under siege communities, the governor vehemently warned against using mob violence or jungle justice, regardless of the provocation.

The Plateau State Government will cover the full cost of the victims’ treatment, according to instructions from the General Hospital in Mangu and all other medical facilities that treat them.

The governor has also ordered security companies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, ensure justice is served, and take proactive steps to stop any recurrence.

In the interim, the governor has established a high-powered delegation to visit the government of Kaduna state and the deceased’s families in Zaria to offer sincere condolences to Plateau State and the Kaduna state government.

Bellingham Strikes As Dortmund Sink Sundowns In Club World Cup Thriller

In a gripping 4-3 win over the Mamelodi Sundowns at the Club World Cup on Saturday, Joe Bellingham scored his first goal for Borussia Dortmund.

The English midfielder made his debut for Dortmund this month by joining the German side in the same way that his older brother Jude did.

South African Sundowns took a surprise early lead, but Dortmund quickly rallied in sweltering Cincinnati at the TQL Stadium to advance to the top of Group F.

I’m pleased we won, but there are many things I can improve on both personally and as a team, Bellingham said to DAZN.

The Sundowns’ 11th minute opener reportedly confirmed Niko Kovac’s assertion that teams from the “south” had an advantage due to the heat, which Dortmund coach Niko Kovac had been making.

The Brazilian ran out of the lead with a fine solo goal to beat Gregor Kobel before Lucas Ribeiro’s excellent solo effort gave the CAF Champions League runners-up victory.

However, Felix Nmecha fired home after Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams had given Dortmund their equalizer through a pass that was passed through the ball straight to Felix Nmecha.

Before Dortmund took the lead through striker Serhou Guirassy, both stoppers made good saves in the final exchange.

Dortmund continued his excellent season this year by winning the ball high up the pitch and scoring with a fine leap and header from Julian Brandt.

Dortmund’s third goal came just before the break thanks to Bellingham, who made the move from Sunderland earlier in June for 33 million euros ($37 million).

Williams slammed a cross into his path, and Bellingham fired home after controlling on his chest.

As a midfielder, Bellingham said, “I’ve practiced that so many times, and arriving late on the edge of the box is something you have to be really good at.”

“As a kid, I’ve practiced that at Sunderland so many times, during training, and after training, so I’m really proud of it,” said the Sunderland coach.

His brother Jude left Dortmund for Real Madrid in 2023 after five years of work.

Fans of Dortmund sang “Hey Jobe” by reviving the Beatles classic “Hey Jude” to Jude Bellingham.

The Dortmund midfielder said, “I didn’t hear that, but it’s really nice.”

Not happy, but very proud.

Dortmund won their fourth consecutive draw against Fluminense despite being toothless in their opening encounter.

The Sundowns, who have won the last eight South African league titles, refused to give up until three minutes later when Iqraam Rayners pulled one back.

Rayners, who had won Sundowns’ first match against Ulsan HD, hit the post with a header and quickly nodged the rebound, nodding home.

Lebo Mothiba’s 90th minute save from Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso’s side, who forced Dortmund to sweat for six more minutes in stoppage time before capturing the victory.

Cardoso told DAZN, “The outcome is not what we wanted, but we created a wonderful game.”

“It’s crucial that people are aware of what was at stake in this game.” We worked brilliantly despite the level of team we faced.

The boys gave a fantastic performance; it was a match made in heaven. I’m proud, but not happy.

In another Group F game on Saturday, Fluminense travels to East Rutherford to face Ulsan at the MetLife Stadium.

Dragons and Catalans (6) 12

Goals: Makinson 2 tries: Pangai Junior, Makinson

Leigh Leopards (12) 26

Leigh Leopards defeated Dragons and Catalans 26-12 to finish third in Super League, scoring late tries from Joe Ofahengaue and David Armstrong.

Tevita Pangai Junior and Tommy Makinson had scored tries to bring the Catalans’ lead to 12-2, but they lost six games in a row in the league.

Leigh had a half-time lead thanks to Tesi Niu and Keanan Brand crossing paths.

Leigh and Pangai Junior both conceded penalties before full-time to add to their four conversions, but Gareth O’Brien’s performance with the boot was crucial.

When Makinson missed the opportunity to lead the Dragons, Makinson received a penalty inside 30 meters.

When Niu ran in following a wonderful catch and pass from Lachlan Lam, Armstrong broke through the defense and opened the door for the left. Instead, Leigh came in.

Leigh added another six minutes later when Lam found Brand in the top corner for a quick touch-down.

Pangai Junior blasted his way through the defense under the posts just before half-time, making it 2-0 for the Dragons, Makinson not letting up with his kick.

When Oliver Partington, Luke Keary, and Sam Tomkins made a quick move that was completed by Makinson, who had already scored, the Catalans leveled off with a real goal.

Then, when Pangai Junior was sent to the trash for a late tackle, Makinson missed what appeared to be a straightforward penalty to take the lead.

O’Brien’s kick from the subsequent penalty hit the post, and Lam immediately reacted, causing Ofahengaue to cross the line in the process.

Dragons and Catalans: Tomkins, Makinson, Laguerre, Darrelatour, Cotric, Keary, Rouge, Satae, Da Costa, Maria, Romano, Seguier, Partington

Aryna Sabalenka defeated world number one Marketa Vondrousova to reach her first final since winning the 2023 Wimbledon title.

Vondrousova, who has been recovering from shoulder surgery and is ranked 164th in the world, defeated Wang Xinyu 6-2,6-4 in Sunday’s showpiece in Germany.

“I didn’t play for a while,” I said. On the WTA Tour website, Czech Vondrousova stated, “I’m just happy to be back in good health and so grateful to play these games.”

“I was like, OK, let’s just try to win the first round,” I thought as I saw the field, and then, you know, this is happening.”

Sabalenka saved two break points in the opening set, but she was again denied in the second service match, leading 5-2 going in the second set.

Vondrousova responded immediately after asking to lead 2-0 in the second, which was the three-time Grand Slam champion.

The set remained on serve until 25-year-old Vondrousova broke for 5-4, and the match was then ended in a tense scrap.

Wang won the other semi-final 6-4 6-1 over 2021 Berlin Open champion Liudmila Samsonova to reach her first WTA singles final.

Daniil Medvedev fought back from world number three Alexander Zverev to win 7-6 (7-3) 6-7 (1-7) 6-4 in a grass-court competition in the lead up to Wimbledon and advance to the Halle Open final on Sunday.

After beating eighth seed Karen Khachanov 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4, Medvedev will face world number 45 Alexander Bublik in a semifinal match.

World No. 11 Medvedev wasted three match points in the second set and took three hours and one minute to complete the task after facing Zverev in a tie-break.

Medvedev said, “I’m happy with my level, I played great.”

In the second set, “I would have loved to finish on the match points.” I attempted it first, but I was disappointed.

He made a great point in the second one, so I waited a little while while he made the first one. I’m happy to ultimately prevail.

Medvedev needed medical attention for a nosebleed at 4-4 in the opening set, as was the case with his quarter-final victory on Friday.

Penny Lancaster and Rod Stewart more loved-up than ever as they mark 18 years of marriage

Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster, both stars of the Loose Women’s wedding, have visited Portofino to celebrate their engagement there on the Venice Simplon-Orient Express.

Sir Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster looked loved-up on their trip abroad together this week. They have embarked on a tour of locations that are special to them as the couple celebrate the 18th anniversary of their wedding.

Rod, 80, and Penny, 54, got married in Portofino on the coast of Italy in 2007, with the anniversary of their nuptials having been on Monday. The pair tied the knot at former monastery La Cervara and have now returned to the area.

Loose Women panelist Penny has shared updates from the trip on Instagram this week. It included posting footage yesterday from a boat trip as she spotted the cliffside property where she married Rod from the water beneath it.

In the caption that came with the clip, Penny referenced the recent anniversary she and her husband had celebrated. She was also referring to the wedding venue. Where we said I do 18 years ago, she wrote to her followers in the post.

Another photo showed them sat at a restaurant sporting clothing protectors as they eat a meal. Penny teased in the caption: “Making a mess of ourselves”. The post, uploaded this afternoon, included Dean Martin’s song That’s Amore.

Penny had earlier shared a selfie of herself from the trip that morning and a sticker with the words “Good morning” on it. She later shared some drinks and appetizers with Rod before posting the photos of herself and Rod together.

The couple made the trip announcement earlier this week, but it isn’t until now. In a joint post shared on Thursday, Penny and Rod had made it known that they would travel to the destination via the Venice Simplon-Orient Express.

Penny shared at the time that they were boarding the luxury train in France. She said that they would travel from Paris, which is where they got engaged in 2005, to Portofino, which is where they had got married two years later.

Penny described the experience as “magical” and added to the photo. It’s totally magical, according to her, “Entering a bygone era @vsoetrain from Paris where we got engaged to Portofino where we got married 18 years ago.”
