Arsenal have signed Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford in a £15m deal.
The 31-year-old has joined for an initial £10m – with a possible £5m in performance-related add-ons – on a two-year contract with the option of a third year.
Norgaard joined Brentford from Fiorentina in 2019 and became a key player, captaining his side and making 196 appearances.
The Gunners were interested in Sevilla’s French midfielder Lucien Agoume, but manager Mikel Arteta opted for Norgaard because he preferred a Premier League-ready player.
“I’ve just turned 31 and had signed a new deal with Brentford,” he said.
“There’s always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them.
“Now I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It’s a childhood dream and something I didn’t think would be possible. So it’s something I’m really, really happy about.”
Norgaard helped Brentford win promotion from the Championship in 2021, before making 122 Premier League appearances.
He is Arsenal’s third signing of the summer.
Midfielder Martin Zubimendi joined from Real Sociedad last week in a deal worth almost £60m, while goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga moved from Chelsea for £5m.
Oasis fans will be hoping for some Champagne Supernova weather as they prepare to descend on Heaton Park for the band’s upcoming sold-out concerts this weekend
Daniel Bird Assistant Celebrity and Entertainment Editor
Oasis fans are set to face scorching conditions at the band’s upcoming Heaton Park gigs. The Manchester-based group, led by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, are gearing up for five sold-out performances starting this Friday, with each show drawing in a crowd of 80,000.
However, as the first concert is just one day away, it appears that fans will be treated to warmer weather, with gates opening at 3pm. Despite the UK’s reputation for unpredictable weather during outdoor events, this weekend’s forecast presents a different kind of challenge.
Bosses have since issued a huge warning to those in attendance. Although taking food and drink into Heaton Park is strictly prohibited, those attending can, instead, take a collapsible 500ml water bottle. Once inside the park, there will be dedicated water refill points, as well as the bar, which will be stocked with both alcoholic and soft drinks.
Fans are also encouraged to wear sun protection and, if possible, a hat to reduce the risks of sunburn and sunstroke. There will also be medical assistance from the three welfare tents, two situated to the left of the stage and one to the right, close to the merchandise stand and bar.

Although the recent mini-heatwave has subsided, predictions indicate that temperatures could soar to nearly 30 degrees over the weekend. Currently, the likelihood of rain is less than 5 per cent throughout the entire weekend.
According to the Met Office, Friday could see temperatures peaking at a scorching 27 degrees around 4pm, while the early morning low at 4am is expected to be a more comfortable 15 degrees. At 1pm, an orange warning will be issued, indicating a level 7 UV exposure, so sunscreen will be essential for those attending.
As the gig winds down, the temperature is set to dip slightly to a more manageable 22 degrees. On Saturday, for the second sold-out show, the heatwave looks set to continue, showing no signs of letting up anytime soon.

Instead, the coolest temperature at 4am will be 18 degrees, whilst the hottest point between 4pm and 7pm will reach 27 degrees. Despite the scorching conditions, the strongest UV warning will hit at 1pm, registering at level 7. The BBC forecasts Friday’s weather: “Friday should then be dry with sunshine throughout the day. Becoming very warm or hot.”
Marco Petagna, senior meteorologist at the Met Office, revealed that conditions will begin warming up on Wednesday, with settled weather returning after numerous regions faced thunderstorm alerts overnight.
The weather expert explained: “I think Wednesday is probably going to be the day when we could start to reach the thresholds of 25 to 28 degrees, depending on where you are.”
He continued: “We probably won’t actually reach an official heatwave until around Friday, to give the three consecutive days at those temperatures. But temperatures are going to continue to climb as we go toward the end of the week, and certainly, by Friday and Saturday, we could see 30 degrees, perhaps just nudging into the low 30s.

“At the weekend, we could just start to see humidity increasing a little bit as well, and nighttime temperatures look like they are going to be, so it will be starting to become more uncomfortable at night.
“It’s a bit of a question mark going through the weekend early next week as to how long the heat will last and how high the temperatures will get, because some models are sort of pushing the heat away a bit more quickly, whereas others keep the heat going.
“At this stage, it looks as though certainly into next weekend, we should hold on to hot weather across the south of the UK, and temperatures could again certainly get into the low 30s in a few spots.

“And we are going to see some very high pollen and very high UV levels as well. But at this stage, we’ve managed to escape some of the very highest temperatures, those seen across Spain and Portugal in particular, where it has reached the mid-40s.”
TV star Fiona Phillips and Martin Frizell were worried for their sons after the veteran broadcaster was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022 at the age of 61

Fiona Phillips and her husband Martin Frizell shared their fears for their sons Nathaniel, 26, and Mackenzie, 23, after the TV star was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The former GMTV host, 64, initially thought she was having menopause symptoms when she first started experiencing “brain fog and anxiety”.
The mum-of-two went onto be diagnosed with the same devastating condition her parents suffered from, with the star caring for them both. Fiona was only 61 when she was diagnosed with the condition. When Fiona and her husband Martin, 66, first learned of the diagnosis, they worried whether it was genetic and could affect their sons.

They quickly did a genetic test and were relieved to find out Nathaniel and Mackenzie weren’t in danger of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Writing in her upcoming memoir, Remember When: My Life With Alzheimer’s, Martin wrote: “We did tackle one fear and talked to Fiona’s consultant about whether she had inherited the illness from her parents.
“She then had a genetic test, because if she carried the gene for Alzheimer’s, there was a danger the boys would have it, too, which in turn might mean them thinking about IVF if they wanted children, in order to break the genetic line.”
Thakfully, the test came back negative(Image: PA)
He added in an excerpt shared with MailOnline: “Thankfully, the test was negative. That meant she didn’t carry the gene so the boys wouldn’t either.”
Martin, who spent ten years at the helm of ITV This Morning, stepped down from his position in February to care for Fiona, taking on many tasks he had once taken for granted.
The couple employ a trained carer to help too, with the 66-year-old explaining that on bad, confused days his wife demands to see her parents, who have sadly passed away.
Martin and Fiona married in 1997 and went on to have sons Nat and Mackenzie. With her Alzheimer’s disease progressing, Martin heartbreakingly shared that his wife sometimes forgets they are married, while Fiona told how much she was struggling to accept the diagnosis in the beginning.
He revealed that while Fiona can dress herself, she sometimes doesn’t do it “correctly” and puts things on the wrong way round. He also revealed his wife becomes very fond of one piece of clothing and will want to wear it “over and over again.”
Fiona is best known for presenting ITV breakfast programme GMTV Today. The star began her career in local radio and was also a Daily Mirror columnist and Loose Women panellist.
And while the presenter feels disconnected from her family as her illness progresses, her husband said he can get lonely.

US President Donald Trump complimented the president of Liberia Wednesday on his English-speaking skills — despite English being the official language of the West African nation.
Trump was hosting a White House lunch with African leaders Wednesday, and — after brief remarks from President Joseph Boakai — asked the business graduate where he had picked up his linguistic know-how.
“Thank you, and such good English… Where did you learn to speak so beautifully? Where were you educated?” Trump said.

Boakai — who, like most Liberians, speaks English as a first language — indicated he had been educated in his native country.

He was facing away from the media, making his countenance hard to gauge — but his laconic, mumbled response hinted at awkwardness.
Trump, who was surrounded by French-speaking presidents from other West African nations, kept digging.
“It’s beautiful English. I have people at this table can’t speak nearly as well,” he said.

US engagement in Liberia began in the 1820s when the Congress- and slaveholder-funded American Colonization Society began sending freed slaves to its shores.
Thousands of “Americo-Liberian” settlers followed, declaring themselves independent in 1847 and setting up a government to rule over a native African majority.
The country has a diverse array of indigenous languages and a number of creolized dialects, while Kpelle-speakers are the largest single linguistic group.
Boakai himself can read and write in Mendi and Kissi but converses in Liberia’s official tongue and lingua franca — English.
JoJo Siwa has responded to claims that she and Chris Hughes are expecting a child. In recent days, the Celebrity Big Brother star, 22, who found fame on Dance Moms has been surrounded by claims that she is pregnant.
But the telly personality who met her boyfriend, Love Island star Chris, 32, on Big Brother earlier this year, has now taken to her own social media channel to hit out at the claims. In view of her 46 million followers on TikTok, JoJo shared a video of herself plugging her latest single, a cover of Bette Davis Eyes, as she cleared up the rumours.

“Couple of things that need to be addressed, so might as well do it with two truths and a lie. Which is the lie?” The options were: ‘I’ve never smoked a cigarette,’ ‘I’m pregnant,’ and ‘This song comes out on Spotify on Friday.’
Her upload, which has been liked over 70,000 times was flooded with responses from fans. One said: “Anyone that knows you or we think do, know you play with your audience. Number two is the lie. Bette Davis is def coming out on Spotify this Friday. You tease your stuff the week it comes out. Loved you since my daughter loved you and love everything you have in your life right now. You deserve it.”
“Not you egging on the pregnant rumours. You’re too funny,” said a second. Meanwhile, a third went on to write: “I just love how she’s totally confidently being herself. She’s what most superstars should be more like. Authentic.”
Chris and JoJo left the singer’s legion of loyal fans gobsmacked when they started dating after meeting on Celebrity Big Brother. After weeks of flirting on the show -, despite JoJo having a girlfriend, Kath Ebbs – they made things official after Chris went stateside to visit the star for her birthday.
They looked extremely loved up in the snaps, with Chris sharing one of the Karma star sleeping next to him in bed. And in bombshell news, Chris, who reckons he and JoJo are ‘soulmates’ is now reportedly ready to “pop the question” as their whirlwind romance heats up.
Former This Morning couple, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, called it quits last year before the GB News host moved on with new girlfriend, Katie Alexander

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford left their legion of loyal fans in shock when they announced they were splitting up last year. The former This Morning couple, both 65, are two of the most recognisable faces on TV and appeared to have one of the strongest marriages in the industry. However, in May, last year, they announced it was all over and were headed for divorce.
Proceedings between the pair are said to have become bitter, with sources claiming Eamonn is “pushing back'” on the terms of the divorce’ – as he moves on with girlfriend, Katie Alexander, 43 – while Ruth ‘wants to get things signed off asap.’
So, as the former couple divide up their assets as they move on with their lives, here’s the latest on their sad divorce, which Eamonn is said to be ‘dragging his feet’ over…

Eamonn Holmes ‘dragging his feet’ in divorce with Ruth Langsford
Father-of four Eamonn, who shares son Jack, 22, with Ruth is said to “dragging his feet” over his divorce with the Loose Women star because the couple have got a lot of finances to sort out between them.
Claiming the Northern Irishman, who was married to Ruth for 14 years, feels “hard done by”, a source told The Sun: “Eamonn feels hard done by in the divorce. He’s dragging his feet because Ruth’s got the house and they have a lot of other financials still to sort out between them.”
Eamonn, they pointed out, also has mobility issues and “needs a carer to help him get ready for work and that’s expensive”.
The source added that the presenter now has his girlfriend, Katie, to think about and wants to be able to provide for her the kind of lifestyle “she deserves”.
‘Life after Ruth’
Eamonn, who often uses a wheelchair because of chronic back problems, is said to be living in a flat closer to the GB News studios – where he hosts the breakfast show – in Paddington, London.
It’s believed the seasoned star – thought to be worth £4million – is pushing back on the terms of the divorce after “realising there’s life after Ruth” following their split.
Fans were shocked when Eamonn was papped with his relationship councillor girlfriend Katie Alexander last year shortly after news of his split with Ruth broke. Then more snaps of the couple appeared holidaying in Ibiza, where Katie was seen carrying the presenter’s mobility scooter.
Since then, the pair have made no secret of their romance – sharing loved-up snaps on social media and being papped while out and about.
Ruth ‘desperate’ to finalise divorce after 14 year marriage
Ruth is said to be “desperate” to get her divorce from Eamonn over and done with. The Loose Women star has reportedly instructed lawyers so that she can keep the couple’s former home in Surrey, which she currently lives in.
She’s also got lots of book deals in the offing, with several publishers willing to pay big money to hear her side of the story. However, a source told the Mirror, the star wont be spilling any secrets, as they said: “There are offers on the table for her to write everything from a self help book to a novel with several publishers.
“Nothing is agreed or signed just yet, but at some point Ruth is likely to become an author in the not too distant future.
“She is taking her time and thinking things through but she is far too classy to be airing her dirty laundry in public and the divorce will not be the main subject of any book she writes. She is moving on with her life after Eamonn and won’t want to drag up things from the past.”

Eamonn’s girlfriend Katie Alexander gets a glow-up
Katie looked incredible when she attended an engagement party with Eamonn on Sunday. The mum-of-two made sure all eyes were on her in a chocolate brown fitted dress with a waist-cinching belt, chunky gold necklace and designer sunglasses.
The couple, who have been dating since last year, and have enjoyed a number of overseas trips together, looked happy and relaxed as they were papped heading to the party in which Eamonn’s GB News colleagues celebrated presenter, Nana Akua’s engagement.
Claiming Katie and Eamonn were “the talk of the party”, the source said: “They were the talk of the party when Katie walked in showing off her blonde hair and weight loss.
“She’s looking incredible, having started using hair and make-up stylists whenever she’s asked to be Eamonn’s date at his star-studded industry events.”

The Mirror has contacted Ruth’s reps for comment on this story. Eamonn’s rep declined to comment.
