‘The abuse never stops’ – Lionesses to avoid social media

Alessia Russo, an England international, says she prefers to avoid social media because of how “damaging” it can be when playing in major tournaments.

As her Lionesses team prepare for their European Championship defense in Switzerland next month, the 26-year-old was discussing the situation with her Lionesses teammates.

Katie Boulter, the British women’s tennis player, spoke to BBC Sport about the abuse and death threats she had received online.

Chelsea’s Lauren James said “the abuse never really stops,” while Manchester United’s Grace Clinton 22, says she will try to stay away from social media to avoid a “toxic environment.”

Russo, a 26-year-old Arsenal forward, said, “I think every player might have a different story about that side of the game, but it can definitely be really damaging.”

“I’ve faced it before, and I believe most players here have.” I was probably sucked into it more when I was younger.

I listened to it more than I should have, and I read it more than I should have. My family, my coaches, and my team-mates are the only ones who have any influence.

“In my first Euros, I would look at and scroll and sometimes get sucked into a trap.

I completely abandoned everything and had people control my Instagram before the World Cup. I kept my attention on the competition.

“It’s personal preference and whatever suits the team,” the coach said. What works for me is to stay focused as a team and not give up on it.

James spoke about the abuse she received while speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, saying that sometimes, even when someone loses at an EA Sports FC video game, my card is being used against them and that I get treated unfairly.

I’m going to just brush it off my shoulder because I’m used to it, even though it might be your first time.

Chelsea midfielder Kiera Walsh admitted to 5 Live that she no longer uses social media, while teammate Lucy Bronze said: “People write horrible things, and obviously our families read it as well, and it can be upsetting if you see something that’s not very nice.

“Social media is amazing in some ways and absolutely awful in others. Most of us, in my opinion, have been off at some point.

Ella Toone, a midfielder for Manchester United, stated that while she won’t use Instagram while playing the game, she will respect any team-mates who decide to avoid using social media while in Switzerland.

“I am aware that some people turn off their phones. We have that conversation, she said, and we are all aware of how each other wants to play the tournament.

“I won’t tell anyone or tell the team because they don’t want to see something I see on Instagram,” I said. It’s a personal preference, in my opinion.

Both her and Russo want to assist younger players in the squad in dealing with online abuse because both of them have done so as players.

According to Toone, “I believe from the experiences I and Alessia have had in the past, we have always been the people who want to make sure the younger or less experienced players join the squad feel safe and relaxed,” he continued.

I wouldn’t have left home for Trump’s America – Navratilova

Ashitha Nagesh

Martina Navratilova left everything she knew about communist Czechoslovakia to begin a new life in the US fifty years ago.

She would later become one of tennis’s most famous players and was one of the most prominent defectors of the Cold War at the age of 18.

She claims to have been worried that the US “wouldn’t let me in” when she spoke to Amol Rajan on the BBC.

In some parts of the country, President Trump’s administration has carried out extensive immigration raids that have sparked protests since taking office in January. Additionally, he has placed a travel ban on citizens of 12 nations, and there have been reports of border border detentions for tourists.

It would not be America because it is currently not a democracy, she says, if I were to stay in that same position [as in 1975] and had to relocate somewhere.

Navratilova clearly feels frustrated when she discusses US politics. She thinks that the situation is getting worse as people ignore it.

She adds that there is “undoubtedly a turning point” between the US and immigrants.

“People are getting chucked out by Homeland Security because they don’t fully understand Donald Trump’s agenda,” she says.

She claims that it wasn’t easy to make the decision to leave the US in 1975. She describes growing up in Revnice, modern-day Czechia, with a loving family she was leaving behind, as an “idyllic” childhood. “I never knew if I would see my parents again,” he said.

However, doing so altered Navratilova’s life forever. She claimed at the time that she wanted to leave Czechoslovakia because she “couldn’t do it under those circumstances at home” and that she wanted to become the world’s number one tennis player.

She's sitting next to Amol Rajan, who is wearing a black collared shirt. Both are smiling at the camera. The background is out of focus but there are windows and beige curtains visible.

Navratilova still lives in the US with her wife Julia Lemigova, a model, and is a dual citizen of the US and the Czech Republic. Does she worry that she might lose her citizenship in the current political environment?

“The whole point is up in the air right now,” the statement continues. Everyone walks on eggshells without knowing what will happen.

However, she has previously stated that she agrees with President Trump regarding the participation of transgender women in sports.

She claims she disagrees with the current World Tennis Association (WTA) regulations that allow transgender women to play in women’s sports if they provide a written and signed declaration that they are female or non-binary, that their testosterone levels have been below a certain threshold for two years, and that they continue to maintain those levels.

She claims that trans women have biological advantages in women’s sports, a theory that is rife with controversy.

Male bodies must participate in male sports, she says, “but there should be no bullying and ostracism.” They are still able to compete. Transwomen’s participation in sports is not prohibited. They just need to compete in the male category, which is the proper category. That is the nature of it.

She continues, “A woman is not getting into the tournament because a male has taken her place by including male bodies in the women’s tournament.”

The British Lawn Tennis Association changed its rules in December of last year, making transgender women no longer eligible to compete in some domestic tennis tournaments.

The UK Supreme Court ruled in April that biological sex is what constitutes a woman’s legal definition. When questioned if she thinks tennis should follow the UK court’s example, she responds, “100%.”

I’m going to die, my God, I promise.

Navratilova has been candid about her recent 15-year battle with cancer.

At the age of 52, she was first identified with breast cancer. Then, 13 years later, it came back along with a second, unrelated throat cancer.

Navratilova says, “The way I found out, I went like this,” rubbing her hands against her face as if shocked by something. And I’m like, “Oh, this lymph node is a little bigger.” And it’s still bigger a few weeks later.

Doctors discovered the second cancer in her breast after a scan.

“We got the results, and it’s cancer,” she says. “And I’m like, I’m going to die, my God, I promise..”

She claims the treatment was “hell,” but she now feels “all right.”

She laughs, “Knock on wood, all clear, and no side effects,” noting that other than red wine, which still doesn’t taste good, I’ve turned my attention to tequila and vodka. “I’m lucky. The treatment was “hell,” but the results were fantastic.

Has Navratilova’s life completely changed as a result of cancer?

Martina Navratilova is interviewed by Amol Rajan on BBC 2 at 19:00 on June 18 and on BBC iPlayer.

Pamela Anderson is relishing her second chance at acting after making peace with her past. Now 57, Pammy – who rose to fame in the early 1990s as Baywatch lifeguard CJ Parker – is living life on her own terms.

And after five marriages, that includes a brief moment of single bliss. She says, “I’m just trying to live this area of my life as authentically as possible.” I believe that I get to do it my way because I was given a second chance. I have to put my faith in someone if they enter my life.

It’s a new era for former Playboy model Pamela, who is loving her acting renaissance after retreating from the spotlight following her sex tape scandal. It saw the private movie she made with then husband, rocker Tommy Lee Jones, stolen and leaked to the in 1995.

The actress described the devastating saga as “I knew I had more to give, but I thought, Oh well, not in this lifetime, I guess” because of what had transpired in both my personal and professional lives. I pondered, “I’ll just do what I have to do to keep the lights on and be with my kids.”

She described how difficult it was to protect her sons Brandon, 29, and Dylan, 27, from the aftermath. When I picked them up from surf camp, Pamella recalled, “I would ask them, Are you Pamela Anderson?” That’s what? Mom, the kids are saying so much about you.

You want to tell your kids appropriate stories, but they always found out before. What could possibly be worse than what happened to their father and I, really?

Moving away from the showbiz world, Pamela now enjoys a quieter life on Vancouver Island. “I wanted to remember who I was, so I went back to where the trees have known me since birth,” explained Pamela.

I literally replanted my garden to see what would grow, and I rewrote my life. I pondered, “I’m going to make pickles and jams here, and I’m totally happy.” It’s actually the beginning of something when you think it’s the end. For me, that is what it was.

A Broadway role as Roxie Hart in musical Chicago brought Pamela back into the spotlight. “That just opened me up again,” she said. Recently starring in acclaimed movie The Last Showgirl, she features in upcoming comedy The Naked Gun alongside Liam Neeson, 73.

She teased me, “it’s going to show a different side of me.” Every movie I watch recently seems to be rehabilitating various aspects of me. And if you want to make these kinds of things interesting, you need a big, messy life to draw from.

Pammy hasn’t had makeup since she returned. She claims that because of her resistance to beauty conventions, she has always been a “rebel.” The actress claims that she is “concerned to ageing” as she poses for red carpets without makeup.

“I think that with AI technology and filters, people are becoming kind of boring-looking,” she explained. “I want to challenge beauty norms. I’ve always been a rebel. I never see somebody and think, ‘I want to look like that.’

“I’m just interested in seeing who I am,” I reply. You have to say, “This is all I have,” at some point. Give in to it. And it’s truly joyful. It’s libertarian to wear no makeup on as you walk on a red carpet. Why can’t I, really? Men consistently do it.

Ex-Argentinian President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner given house arrest

Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, a former president of Argentina, was placed on house arrest while serving her six-year sentence on corruption charges.

The court decided on Tuesday that the 72-year-old Fernandez’s placement on house arrest was appropriate given her political figure’s age and popularity.

The popular left-wing leader was attacked by a gunman at her head just three years ago, in 2022, in an assassination attempt. In its decision, the court cited these risks and claimed Fernandez’s safety “would become complicated if he was confined to a prison environment in coexistence with any type of prison population.”

Courts in Argentina frequently grant house arrest to people of advanced age as well.

The court ordered that the former president’s house arrest begin right away. Additionally, it stated that electronic monitoring would be done on her. She will spend the rest of her time in her Buenos Aires apartment, which she lives in with her granddaughter and daughter.

According to the court, Fernandez “must remain at the registered address,” which she is only required to fulfill in exceptional circumstances. The court will have to check out any prospective residents of the apartment, aside from household staff, healthcare workers, and other approved individuals.

Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner’s supporters gather near her home on June 17, 2025.

Following last week’s ruling that the former president had to be imprisoned, Argentina’s Supreme Court upheld her conviction and forbid her from ever running for office again.

In 2022, she was found guilty of obtaining beneficial contracts through Lazaro Baez, a close family member. According to the prosecution, Baez’ contracts had rates that were 20% higher than the industry’s, potentially generating millions of dollars.

Her political career has been plagued by other scandals, including allegations of bribery and money laundering. The judicial system of Argentina still weighs some of those cases.

However, Fernandez has dismissed the accusations against her as political attacks. Prior to the ban on her candidacy, she had been preparing to run in this year’s legislative elections.

After succeeding her husband, the late Nestor Kirchner, Fernandez became Argentina’s president in 2007 and 2015.

Four years after leaving the “Pink House” of the presidency, Fernandez, resigned as vice president of another left-wing politician, Alberto Fernandez.

Both Fernandez and Alberto Fernandez, who do not share a familial relationship, were subject to severe criticism for managing Argentina’s economy, including their heavy reliance on government aid and the country’s devaluation of the peso as a result of excess currency printing.

However, Fernandez continues to enjoy a lot of popularity, particularly among those who live in poverty, especially because of her investments in social programs to combat poverty.

The Justicialist Party, the main force behind the libertarian government under current President Javier Milei, has been Fernandez’s pillar since 2024. He succeeded Alberto Fernandez in becoming president in 2023.

When his ex-partner “fell ill with a little fever,” MGK announced her exit from the American Music Awards last month.

In a rare update, MGK sweetly stated that it was his “purpose” to be a father and that he would walk the carpet and then leave for his family.

Speaking to E News on the red carpet, the Bloody Valentine singer said: “She has a little bit of a fever, so I’m gonna walk the carpet and go back, y’know, handle my business, give her my pheromones and let her heal up”.

Giving a further rare insight into his life as a dad to a newborn, Kelly told Access Hollywood reporters: “When Pete was texting me one night, he was making me laugh so hard and it woke my baby up, and waking a newborn up is just not the vibe”.

When questioned about the responsibilities of raising a child, MGK responded, “It’s just so elated, it’s just awesome, they smell so good, y’know, I was just meant to be a dad.”

Casie Colson Baker, the father of his first daughter, is MGK’s ex-girlfriend, he said, “She’s a great big sister, yeah, she’s able to calm her down.” She just began her first job.

Monahan to leave PGA in 2026 as Rolapp becomes CEO

Images courtesy of Getty

When Jay Monahan’s contract expires in 2026, he will step down as PGA Tour commissioner.

Brian Rolapp will gradually overtake Monahan’s daily duties as the tour’s first chief executive.

Rolapp has worked for the National Football League (NFL) for more than 20 years, most recently as its chief media and business officer.

I informed our boards a year ago that I would step down from my position as commissioner at the end of 2026, according to Monahan.

We’ve collaborated since then to find a leader who can build on our momentum and create a procedure that makes the transition simple.

“We’ve found the ideal leader in Brian Rolapp,” said one commentator, “and I’m excited to watch him go from the NFL to his new position of PGA Tour leadership.”

The problems in golf that the Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit has created have dominated Monahan’s last few years as commissioner.

The 55-year-old was vocal critic of LIV before taking a key role in the negotiations that led to the formation of a partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which finances LIV.

Many players were offended by the secretive nature of the LIV conversations.

Rolapp hopes to bring the sport together as the PGA Tour and LIV reach a final agreement.

“Rolapp said, “I think the fans have been pretty clear. They want to see the best golfers competing with one another. That’s what I’m saying.

“I believe that’s a complex situation that I should learn more about before I speak,” according to LIV.

“But I’ll say that my main goals are to improve the tour, grow it, and move it forward from a strength point.”

The PGA Tour CEO search committee, which had Rolapp for the position, unanimously chose Tiger Woods.

Woods remarked, “Brian’s appointment is a win for players and fans.” He brings a fresh perspective from his time playing for the NFL and a clear respect for the game and our players.
