Guinea-Bissau’s deposed president travels to Congo’s Brazzaville: Reports

Umaro Sissoco Embalo, the former president of Guinea-Bissau, has visited the Republic of Congo, according to AFP and Associated Press news reports. He was ousted in a military coup.

Embalo’s chief of staff, Califa Soares Cassama, confirmed to AP that the former leader was visiting Brazzaville, the country’s capital.

Embalo was in Brazzaville, according to unnamed Congolese government sources who spoke to AFP.

After a group of military officers announced they had “full control” of Guinea-Bissau ahead of the release of the preliminary presidential election results on Wednesday, Embalo sought refuge in neighboring Senegal.

The coup’s true motivations remain a mystery thanks to rumors and conspiracies, including that it was orchestrated with Embalo’s consent.

Regional leaders and the UN are urging Guinea-Bissau’s new military leaders to restore constitutional order and allow the electoral process to be completed. The coup has sparked a wave of international outcry.

Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko addressed lawmakers on Friday, calling the events a “sham” in remarks.

Sonko stated, “We want the electoral process to continue.” The electoral commission must be able to select the winner, according to the statement.

Many of Guinea-Bissau’s new military leaders are close to Embalo, including Ilidio Vieira Te, the new prime minister, and General Horta Inta-A, who was appointed transitional president earlier this week.

Te previously served in Embalo’s administration as finance minister.

A 28-member government, the majority of whom are allies of the deposed president, was appointed by Inta-a on Saturday.

Separately, the country’s main opposition party, PAIGC, claimed in a statement that Bissau’s capital had been “illegally invaded by heavily armed militia groups.”

The party called the Guinea-Bissau raid “an attack on stability, democracy, and the rule of law” on Saturday.

Civil rights organizations criticized PAIGC’s decision to refuse to run for president in the election last Sunday, which drew criticism from the opposition.

Before the provisional vote results’ release, which had been scheduled for Thursday, both Embalo and his main rival, Fernando Dias, had declared victory.

A ‘waste of England’s time’ – what did Wiegman learn from Lionesses’ stroll?

England fans couldn’t have anticipated a more entertaining Wembley Stadium performance, but Sarina Wiegman did not resist the urge to be more experimental. How much did she actually learn from it?

The Lionesses have won three of their four friendly matches, which were intended as a “homecoming” celebration, since winning Euro 2025.

Their most recent was a 4-0 victory over China on Saturday night, which was not their best effort.

Although the display, which included a Georgia Stanway hat-trick, was understandably entertaining, China had real lack of competition.

England were in charge of the game, dominating 70% of the ball, as they won. It was the tried-and-true players who put the ball on the scoresheet.

By half-time, they had led by 5-0, and Wiegman claimed she had learned something from the performance.

“Yes, of course, the game always teaches us something.” We really wanted to get things moving forward,” said Wiegman.

They started playing really well after a few minutes of playing in a slightly different shape than what we anticipated.

You saw how good we are after we had a little more time on the ball. We had a good relationship, and we did well, in my opinion.

A chance to experiment even more was missed?

What purpose does this match serve, Brian, one BBC Sport live text reader, put it. It is a waste of time for England.

Could Wiegman have given some of England’s unfamiliar stars more minutes after such a brilliant display, which the 74, 611 inside Wembley Stadium undoubtedly enjoyed?

Karen Bardsley, the former England goalkeeper, stated on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra 2: “I think the chance may have been missed to start a few more debutants or to give players more caps, perhaps even make some changes a little sooner.

We anticipated a quarter of the first half of the game knowing it would be comfortable.

Instead of getting anything the fans are really going to learn from a tactical standpoint, they felt like they had an opportunity to come and see the players.

It would have been great to see Lucia Kendall at Wembley from the beginning since she impressed in her debut last month against Australia, winning 3-1. She did come on, but only after England had already led with a 6 0 0 score in the 68th minute.

Freya Godfrey, 20, received her first call-up this week, and Taylor Hinds picked up her second cap, but only played 15 minutes.

Due to her team’s dominance, goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse, the one player given a debut, had little chance to impress.

Aggie Beever-Jones missed out on regular number nine Alessia Russo due to a lack of experience in the middle and front lines in the starting XI.

Lotte Wubben-Moy, an injury-hit defense, was still on the bench, but things did change.

Before kick-off, Ian Wright said on ITV, “At some point, that has to happen]to see more youngsters. We want to see more of those players.

We need to know that there are players who can step up and succeed in the World Cup in 2027, “I believe.”

This is a chance to do that through friendlies.

World Cup qualification and a double header against 2026 world champion Spain are in order for stiff competition that starts in March.

While an 8-0 win should be applauded, Wiegman does not have much to gain when connections are made between players who may not return in two years. It is unusual for her to not feel pressure on her shoulders.

When England had taken the lead so decisively and early on, could Wiegman have altered things even more?

When we add three substitutes at half-time, she said, “We take every game seriously,” she said.

There are many players knocking on the door because our squad is 25. Everyone desires to play.

Mead has always been a wise player, she said.

It was a simpler evening than many people had anticipated because the national team had not played together since July and the domestic league came to an end on September 28.

However, it did not diminish England’s impressive performance.

China struggled to put on a glove despite England’s relentless, clinical, and composed nature, aside from a few set pieces early on.

Beth Mead, the top-scoring player for the Euro 2022 season and who has seen increased competition for her spot in the side, was one of the standout performers.

When she connects so well with right-back Lucy Bronze and creates numerous opportunities from wide positions, Wiegman is understandably so frequently turning to Mead in big games.

Russo and Lauren Hemp had plenty of opportunities in the opening half, and almost everything came out of her lap.

“I think that showed today,” Mead told BBC Radio 5 Live, “Me, Georgia] Stanley and Lucy] have had the opportunity to play together for a number of years.”

We filled in for each other, filled in for each other, and caused issues for their left. “We found the spaces,” he said.

Mead may have been the star of the three-year film, but she’s still making money, so has she changed?

She appears to have improved. She’s always been a smart player, picking up positions, remaining calm in the final third, and always keeping the camera on her,” said Wiegman.

She did that as well today. We’ve asked her to do more rotations, pick up more positions, and feel free to do that.

Nicola McLean confronts Kelly Brook trolls: ‘Beautiful women aren’t allowed to age’

ExCLUSIVE: Nicola McLean claims Vogue Williams and Lisa Riley are getting a better ride for Kelly Brook despite the double standards she’s encountered in the jungle.

In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Nicola McLean, defends Kelly Brook over the double standards and why Vogue Williams and Lisa Riley are getting an easier ride in the jungle.

When Kelly Brook signed up for I’m A Celeb, she was looking forward to the experience changing her “whole outlook on life”. But sadly, the focus was on her appearance as she landed in Australia last month, with vile trolls suggesting she might have been going into the jungle to lose weight. One person quipped, “Must have booked extra seats on the plane.”

Kelly’s awful experience is all too familiar for former glamour model Nicola McLean, who was also trolled for her looks when she headed Down Under in 2008.

“My massive implants horrendously trolled me when I was in the jungle.” You can’t be a woman, asserts Nicola. She felt she had to explain why she doesn’t look the same as she did in her 20s and make reference to her size even before Kelly entered, which is disappointing.

Nicola, 44, has been open about suffering with eating disorders throughout her life, having battled bulimia from the age of 11 as well as anorexia and body dysmorphia. The mum of two has told fans she’s trying to remember she’s “more than a number” on the scales and, earlier this year, admitted she lied to get weight-loss jabs.

After receiving horrible messages about her weight following a string of TV appearances last year, Nicola found herself back in a dark place – forcing herself to lose weight, and booking in several cosmetic treatments.

“I put on a little weight last year because I only started eating normally,” says Nicola. “But I watched a horrible troll and went on TV.” She said, “She’s got so much fat.” That resulted in weight loss. I also went to get fillers, salmon sperm, and more Botox. Because I’m so self-conscious about my appearance, comments about my looks make me feel like a fool. When people point out the flaws and ask, “What’s happened to her?” I’m devastated because she appears to be a tank.

“People now claim that I look fantastic. However, no one knows how difficult it is for me to stay this large in order to make people accept me when I do my job.

Nicola says watching this year’s I’m A Celeb has made it all too apparent that there are different beauty standards for women dependent on age, and only some are deemed ‘aesthetically acceptable’.

“It’s as if beautiful women aren’t allowed to age. Ruby Wax avoids criticism of her body as she’s 72, but somehow Kelly is not allowed to look her 46 years,” she explains. “Vogue Williams and Myleene Klass are seen as aesthetically acceptable in the jungle. They’re both slim but not too skinny, and haven’t had lots of work done.

They won’t be as vicious as Kelly is. Since I have my boobs done, I am not seen in the same way as Vogue and Myleene because I am plastic.

Due to this, Nicola is steadfast in teaching the realities of realistic beauty standards to her two teenage boys, Rocky, 19, and Striker, 15, respectively. Never has she resisted sharing the work she has done with her children.

“Their mother had double G boobs,” they said. She says I would tell them I was getting Botox because I wanted them to know that wasn’t real from a young age. I never wanted them to reach that age and consider whether someone who doesn’t have massive boobs is improper.

Tom Williams, Nicola’s ex-football player, is concerned about her having more surgery, but Nicola’s husband supports her. Nicola states, “Tom has been through it all.” He advises me to ignore the trolls, and I am astounded when people make comments about me being a “s**t mum,” knowing that it is a lie.

“But I’m insecure about my looks and my weight. He just tells me to be careful because I’ve had three boob jobs. The last one went wrong, and now I’m terrified.”

Despite being subjected to cruel remark in the jungle, Nicola gained from it. She had the opportunity to embrace her natural beauty for the first time ever. Tom never saw me without makeup when I entered, she says. That insecurities plagued me. When we had to remove our makeup in the jungle, I sobbed. But I finally mastered accepting my face. It gave me the most amazing sense of confidence for a while.

Pamela Anderson has received praise for avoiding wearing makeup, according to Nicola. She said, “F*** this, I’m spinning this on the head and I’m going to reinvent myself.” She is amazing.
