Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Trial Heads Into Closing Arguments

After weeks of painstaking testimony in the high-profile trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs, legal teams will enter a pivotal moment of the proceedings Thursday as they deliver closing arguments.

Both sides have said their climactic summations will last several hours each, as the fate of the once-powerful music mogul hangs in the balance.

Prosecutors say Combs, 55, masterminded a decades-long pattern of wrongdoing that saw him and an inner circle of employees carry out crimes including forced labor, arson, bribery and witness tampering.

The famed producer coerced two women — the singer Casandra Ventura and later a woman who testified under the pseudonym Jane — into years of drug-addled sex with paid escorts, prosecutors say.

The most serious charge of racketeering — which includes the existence of a criminal enterprise that committed a pattern of offenses — could send Combs to prison for life. He also faces two charges of sex trafficking and two more for transportation for purposes of prostitution.

But Combs denies it all: his lawyers have argued the artist’s relationships were consensual and have sought to convince jurors that many of the witnesses who testified were doing so for reasons including financial gain or jealousy.

Along with alleged victims, government witnesses included former assistants and other employees, as well as escorts, friends and family of Ventura, and a hotel security guard who said he was bribed with $100, 000 in a paper bag.

Law enforcement officials and a forensic psychologist were also among the 34 individuals to take the stand.

Combs opted against testifying on his own behalf, a common strategy of defense teams who are not required to prove innocence, only to cast doubt on government allegations of guilt.

The government’s evidence included thousands of pages of phone and text records, and hours of testimony involved meticulous readings of some of the most explicit and wrenching exchanges.

Many of those records appear to indicate distress on the part of the alleged victims. But a lot of the messages also show affection and desire — texts the defense underscored again and again.

Jurors have seen video evidence of the sex parties prosecutors say were criminal, while the defense has exhibited exchanges they said imply consent.

Also in evidence are reams of financial records — including CashApp payments to escorts — as well as flight and hotel records.

Deliberations up next

Since early May the proceedings have gripped the Manhattan federal courthouse where they’re taking place.

And though electronics — that includes phones, laptops, and even AirPods — are barred from the building and must be left with security, dozens of influencers and content creators have buzzed around the courthouse’s exterior every day, delivering hot takes to eager social media fans.

Combs is incarcerated and does not enter or exit the courthouse publicly. However, some of the famous witnesses and witnesses, including members of the music mogul’s family and figures like rapper Kid Cudi, who claimed Combs’ entourage tore his car, do.

Friday’s marathon closing arguments are anticipated to be over.

Jurors have a slim chance of starting deliberations that afternoon, but legal experts predict that the panel of citizens will have the case on Monday.

Then the world waits as 12 New Yorkers consider the fate of a man whose storied status as a dynamic starmaker is now in jeopardy.

Tinubu Orders Personnel, Skills Gap Audit For Federal Civil Service

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu announced that he had authorized a personnel audit and skills gap analysis for the entire Federal Civil Service to increase the federal workforce’s capacity.

At the Federal Capital Territory’s Abuja, Tinubu made the disclosure at the International Civil Service Conference.

The President claimed that the right people were needed to fill the appropriate roles in Nigeria in order to ensure the high-performance culture it deserved.

Therefore, he urged the relevant stakeholders to make sure the exercise was finished as soon as possible so that the targeted reforms could be implemented and the full benefits of improving the civil service could be realized.

By putting the right people in the right roles, “we can only guarantee the high-performance culture our country deserves.”

To increase capacity, I have authorized a thorough personnel audit and skill gap analysis for the Federal Civil Service.

“I urge all accountable stakeholders to prioritize the successful completion of this crucial exercise, to begin implementing targeted reforms, and to realize the full benefits of a more agile, competent, and responsive civil service,” he said.

He claims that the civil service is essential to the delivery of the renewed hope agenda and that the role of civil servants is crucial.

He claimed that the new minimum wage, the associated salary adjustments resulting from the new minimum wage, and the Pension Bond Scheme’s approval, among other things, were policies that reflected the commitment of his administration to the workforce.

In order to meet the demands of both the present and future, Tinubu argued that innovation was necessary to make the Nigerian civil service more globally competitive.

He claimed that every reform his administration pursues is fueled solely by accurate, reliable data, which he called the “new oil.”

“Data is the new oil, and the value of it rises as more it is refined and responsibly shared,” explains the statement. Therefore, I instruct all ministries, extra-ministerial departments, and agencies to rigorously capture information, comply with the Nigerian Data Protection Act of 2023, make it available for public use, and adhere to the highest standards for privacy and data protection, the President continued.

He added that Nigeria was unwaveringly committed to partnerships that went beyond national borders to advance technology and promote civil service as a beacon of hope and progress for all countries.

Rejuvenate, Innovate, and Accelerate, the first conference with the theme, “is timely, apt, and compelling. It embodies our shared desire to reimagine and reposition the civil service.

Innovation is still essential to maintaining the civil service’s dynamic, digital, ethical, and global competitiveness in today’s fast-paced, constantly evolving world of technology. He continued, “An innovative civil service ensures that we meet today’s needs and overcome the challenges of tomorrow.”

British and Irish Lions v Western Force

In Saturday’s tour opener in Australia, Dan Sheehan has challenged his British and Irish Lions team-mates to match the enthusiasm of the Western Force underdogs.

Sione Tuipulotu and Tadhg Beirne, both of whom were starting for Argentina on Friday, will lead the Lions team.

The 26-year-old Irish hooker said, “I’m sure the Force will be 150% of what they normally are.”

They will be flying into it, according to the statement, “And that extra hunger can lead to some potent things.”

They probably first entered that Western Force change room, where they would have been looking for this game. They will be greatly affected by it.

“But I don’t want them to believe that we’ll be hungrier than we are.” We must show our own mindset back.

Western Force’s head coach, Simon Cron, said a large portion of their preparation had involved presenting the players with the magnitude of the opportunity. Western Force was the lowest-ranked Australian side in this year’s Super Rugby Pacific.

For many of these guys, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, Cron said.

We sat down as a group and discussed when we last sat down and when we were twelve years old [when the Lions lasttoured Australia].

Former Exeter scrum-half Nic White is included in the Western Force’s starting line-up, and veteran Kurtley Beale, who had previously been kept back with the Wallabies, has been replaced at full-back.

Sheehan, who for the first time faced Wales at this year’s Six Nations, believes the Lions’ dressing room will make his job easier rather than intimidating.

You look around the room and there are so many people who are more than capable of taking the captaincy of this team, he said, which helps a little bit lessen the nerves.

I just need to be myself, not make it too difficult.

I think I have a good understanding of who I am and what makes me tick, despite the fact that I am quite a quiet person. I kind of allowed these things to occur indistinctly. I realize that sounds like I’m about to sit back, but I just don’t really overthink it.

Following Saturday’s game against the Queensland Reds on Wednesday, the Lions’ schedule expands.

Cristiano Ronaldo signs new contract at Al Nassr until 2027

Following weeks of rumors about his future plans, Cristiano Ronaldo announced a two-year extension with Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr.

The club announced in a post on X on Thursday that Cristiano Ronaldo would remain at AlNassrFC until 2027.

The team released a teaser video moments before the official confirmation, in which Ronaldo, 40, walks along a beachfront and declares, “Al Nassr forever.”

The Portuguese superstar, who was in the latter stages of his career, greeted the kingdom in 2023, bringing with him a flurry of players eager to travel to the oil-rich nation.

Ronaldo posted “This chapter is over” shortly after Al Nassr finished third and trophy-less once more in the Saudi Pro League.

“Ronaldo’s presence has played a significant role in the development of the Saudi league over the past two and a half. A major investor in Saudi football, a source from the Public Investment Fund (PIF), told AFP last month that “he opens the door for elite and young players to come to Saudi Arabia.”

A group of Pro League clubs, including Al Nassr, Al Hilal, and Al Ahli, are controlled by the oil-funded PIF, the sovereign wealth fund that oversees a number of significant Saudi investments.

Ronaldo’s new two-year contract with Al Nassr is regarded as one of the most lucrative deals in international football.

Time for a title

Ronaldo made the announcement in May, just months after Brazilian superstar Neymar, who had only played for Al Hilal seven times, made the announcement on a reported $104 million a year.

Ronaldo, who scored 25 goals in the Pro League, was unable to capture a Saudi or continental title with Al Nassr, who lost in last month’s Asian Champions League semifinal defeat.

The five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or announced last year that he could leave Al Nassr, the Riyadh team that many Saudi royals favor.

Saudi Arabia has resurrended football by investing a lot of money in European stars, starting with Ronaldo’s move in late 2022, and the desert nation will host the World Cup in 2034.

Saudi football fans have been able to watch Ronaldo and Karim Benzema for six consecutive weekends during the kingdom’s football season.

However, the oil-fueled Saudi football project has drawn comparisons to the Chinese Super League, which paid exorbitant wages to players before the Chinese economy crashed before the team owners went bust.

There is likely more from the Pro League now that Saudi Arabia is scheduled to host the 2034 World Cup and is determined to reshape itself as a tourist and business magnet before the world oil demand finally drops.

Ronaldo made an appearance in a deal that was later reported to be worth $250 million when he first signed for Riyadh’s Al Nassr two years ago.

Having recently that it’s been sold for $1 billion, Hailey Bieber’s skincare and make-up brand Rhode is going from strength to strength, with much excitement whenever anything new launches. The latest product drop is no exception, and is just the thing for getting the star’s viral ‘glazed skin’ look in a flash.

Rhode has just launched Glazing Mist, £30, a super-fine facial spritz that not only cools and hydrates but also, like most of Rhode’s skincare, is rich in barrier-strengthening ectoin and ceramides, which not only keep skin healthy, but also help to achieve the super-dewy ‘glazed donut skin’ look that Hailey is famous for.

To launch the product, Rhode signed up a somewhat surprising – but certainly on trend right now – celebrity to front the campaign: Babygirl actor Harris Dickinson, looking fresh-faced and glistening in the shots.

Mists such as this one are an excellent product to add into your skincare routine in summer, when they feel lovely and cooling in hot weather (especially if you keep it in the fridge). It’s also a great way to add extra hydration to your skin without applying thick, heavy layers of product. Others we love include the new INKEY List Hydro-Surge Dewy Face Mist, £11, Summer Fridays Jet Lag Skin Soothing Hydration Mist, £22, and, for oily or spot-prone skin, La Roche-Posay Serozinc, £12.

Rhode advises applying this as the first step in your skincare routine after cleansing, and/or the last step after moisturiser. It can also be reapplied at any point during the day whenever you feel the need.

While you’re browsing the Rhode website, you might wan to have a look at some of our beauty team’s other favourite products. We love Pocket Blush, £24, a super-creamy stick that’s so easy to apply, blends brilliantly, and the shades are perfection. I love the baby pink shade Piggy, or the sun-kissed colour Toasted Teddy in the summer, while Freckle is another popular choice – and a new favourite has just dropped.

The Rhode Peptide Lip Shapes, £24, have become a staple in my make-up bag too. As someone with absolutely no skills at make-up application, it’s impossible to go wrong with these; the colours look so natural, and they glide on really smoothly with a velvety finish, before blending easily with fingers. I like to run them a millimetre over my natural lip line, and you barely even need to use a mirror.
