Liam Neeson blasts aid cuts to Sudan as 2.3 million children face starvation

As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to Sudan, Liam Neeson has criticized aid cuts that could have harmed millions of children.

After traveling to South Sudan, Hollywood star Liam Neeson criticized aid cuts. UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Neeson met the mothers of children in the landlocked nation for six days while they were facing starvation.

Nearly half of the children in the war-ravaged nation are currently at risk of dying from malnutrition, according to estimates of 2.3 million. However, 186 nutrition treatment centers have been closed due to funding cuts by wealthy nations, leaving disadvantaged families without essential services.

Neeson expressed his deep sadness over seeing so many undernourished children. When they should be laughing, sleeping when they should be playing, or crying when they should be smiling, they are hauntingly quiet.

I wonder what will happen to those kids as treatment centers are closing across the nation.

Unicef, which is expecting a 20% drop in funding over the next four years, says currently there are only five social workers for every 100,000 children. The actor, who also met young girls forced into marriage, added: “The world cannot turn its back on children like those I met in South Sudan

“Lifesaving programs for children around the world are threatened by funding cuts.” Either we support them right now or let their future sour.

For the past two and a half years, a brutal civil war has raged in Sudan between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The conflict has led to more than 150,000 reported deaths while 12 million have been displaced by the savage violence.

In response to rumors that the Rapid Support Forces were systematically eradicating the non-Arab population in the area, US authorities declared genocide earlier this year.

In January of this year, the RSF and allied militias deliberately targeted women and girls from some ethnic groups for rape and other forms of brutal sexual violence, according to former US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

“Those same militias have targeted evading civilians, murdered innocent people who are escaping conflict, and prevented last-ditch civilians from getting life-saving supplies.”

According to this information, I’ve come to the conclusion that Sudanese RSF and allies have committed genocide.

General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces leader, was later subject to sanctions by the US. Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of Sudan’s army and de facto president, received similar sanctions.

UK journalist Sami Hamdi detained in US amid pro-Israel lobby pressure

In what a US-based organization called an “abduction,” British political commentator and journalist Sami Hamdi has been detained by federal authorities in the country.

Hamdi’s arrest was attributed to his criticism of Israel’s war on Gaza, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Hamdi, a frequent critic of US and Israeli policy, was scheduled to address a CAIR gala in Sacramento on Saturday night and speak at a subsequent CAIR event in Florida prior to his arrest by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

According to CAIR, he was stopped at the airport as a result of a coordinated “far-right, Israel First” campaign.

It stated in a statement that “our nation must stop abducting Israel First bigots who are unhinged.” It must end because this is an Israel-first policy, not an America-first policy.

Friends of Hamdi called his arrest “a deeply troubling precedent for the freedom of expression and the safety of British citizens abroad” in a statement seen by Al Jazeera.

The United Kingdom Foreign Office was asked to “demand urgent clarification from the US authorities regarding the grounds for Mr. Hamdi’s detention.”

He is still being held in the US and hasn’t been deported, according to Al Jazeera.

A British citizen’s arrest for expressing political views is a dangerous precedent, according to the statement.

Mohamed El-Hachmi Hamdi, Hamdi’s father, claimed in a post on X that his son “has no affiliation” with any political or religious organization.

His position on Palestine is not in line with any faction there, but rather with the people’s right to peace, freedom, and dignity. He continued, “Quite simply, he is one of the young dreamers of this generation who longs for a world with more compassion, justice, and solidarity.”

“Proud Islamophobe”

Hamdi’s detention was confirmed on Sunday by DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, who asserted that there was no proof that he posed a threat to national security. She wrote on X that “This individual’s visa was suspended and he is currently in ICE custody.”

Hamdi has frequently criticized Western governments for directly challenging arms transfers and diplomatic cover for Israeli war crimes, accusing US politicians of actively encouraging Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

His arrest is one more example of US authorities thwarting access for Palestinian and pro-Palestine voices.

Awdah Hathaleen and his cousin Eid Hathaleen, two Palestinian men, were denied entry to the same airport in June and deported to Qatar. Awdah was reportedly killed by an Israeli settler in the West Bank’s occupied West Bank a few weeks later.

Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and ally of US President Donald Trump, was immediately applauded online for playing a role in Hamdi’s detention after she publicly described herself as a “proud Islamophobe” and “white advocate.”

She falsely described him as a “supporter of HAMAS and the Muslim Brotherhood,” saying “you’re lucky his only fate is being arrested and deported.”

Loomer has previously advanced conspiracies, including those that claim the September 11 attacks were inside the US.

Loomer and others attributed the RAIR Foundation, a pro-Israel pressure organization whose stated goal is to fight “Islamic supremacy,” to the rise in Hamdi. RAIR demanded Hamdi’s removal from the country a day after he was accused of trying to “extend a foreign political network hostile to American interests.”

Shaun Maguire, a partner at the tech investment firm Sequoia and a vocal supporter of Israel, claimed on Sunday that Hamdi had tried to hire him through an AI-generated email campaign, claiming that “there are jihadists in America whose full time job is to silence us.”

The opposite is true, according to Hamdi’s supporters and civil rights advocates, and this detention is yet another instance of political retaliation against Israel critics, which is carried out at the border before even one word is uttered in the media.

‘The Thomas Frank effect’ – but is there more to come from Spurs?

I would add Tottenham to the list of over-achieving clubs, which is a breath of fresh air to see teams like Bournemouth and Sunderland surpass expectations at the top of the Premier League.

Not many Spurs fans would have anticipated them to be in third place now that they have had the odd depressing performance under Thomas Frank, especially at home, but I don’t believe anyone thought it would be so easy for him to quickly change this squad.

I am aware that there have still been some criticisms from their supporters, especially with calls for more creative play in open play, but sometimes you have to walk before you can run.

When Frank arrived at Tottenham last year, he probably said, “let’s fix that first” because they conceded too many goals and were too easy to play against.

We can all agree that he has done that because of how well the team has progressed since the beginning of the season up to now.

Yes, there have been instances in which their approach to the ball has appeared a little one-dimensional, and they have relied heavily on Mohammed Kudus’ magic to create chances out of nothing.

However, I have faith that some of their injured players, including Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke, and, over the long term, James Maddison, will improve that aspect of their game.

There is a lot of positive energy around what Frank is doing, and there is also a lot to look forward to, despite the fact that things haven’t been perfect so far.

Spurs are probably the strongest squad they have had in a while, they are picking up points without playing particularly well, and they are currently in a very good position at the top with some very important signings on the horizon.

Why will Tottenham’s identity change?

After fewer than ten league games, supporters want their team to have a identity, and I’m already seeing one at Spurs.

They are currently a team that has been well trained, has a great work ethic, and isn’t preoccupied with giving away foolish chances.

There is nothing wrong with them, despite the fact that they are reasonably pragmatic and heavily rely on set-plays, as we saw in their 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday.

Spurs has some big players to aim for, along with some talented deliverymen, despite the fact that many other teams are the same.

It seems more like they are trying to find individual brilliance in open play than a system to force through the opposition at the moment.

Kudus needs some assistance in that area, but that assistance is coming, as I look at them.

“Frank has provided them with a solid base.”

Because we saw how Brentford developed under him over the course of several seasons and he is only just beginning to get started here, I don’t think Tottenham’s current identity is a piece of cake.

Brentford had a very direct style when they first entered the Premier League, and their actions were also quite predictable or obvious.

However, if you watched them last season, you would have seen a completely different approach. Although Christian Norgaard could mix things up, they were not a one-trick pony when they played out back.

This Tottenham team will continue to evolve, but Frank has first and foremost provided them with a solid foundation like he did at Brentford. For instance, with their slightly more home-like full-backs than they did under Ange Postecoglou, as they did with Ange Postecoglou.

On Sunday, Spurs again received some criticism for allowing Everton to play on them in the second half.

You have to consider what had happened before that game, despite the fact that I was thinking to myself, “Come on, get out of your half because you are putting yourself under pressure.”

Graphic showing Tottenham's starting XI against Everton: Vicario, Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Spence, Joao Palhinha, Bentancur, Johnson, Kudus, Simons, Kolo Muani

The majority of the team from that game also started on Sunday, and Everton were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to a strong performance.

I understand why Frank made the decision to try to maintain their lead after the break when you consider the distance and intensity of that game against Monaco.

Looking back, I’m sure he would have desired for them to be a little more talented on the ball when they actually broke away because they gave the ball up too easily and put themselves under too much pressure.

If they give away as much of their possession and sit off as deeply as they did, they might be punished in the coming weeks against perhaps higher-quality opposition.

Snapshot of the top of the Premier League table: 1st Arsenal, 2nd Bournemouth, 3rd Tottenham, 4th Sunderland & 5th Man City

They’ll “make their eyes feel better.”

In the end, Frank will have to strike a balance between playing an attacking front-footed side that the fans find entertaining and one that wins games because of his or her lack of experience.

Tottenham have always struggled to find that, which is why they have undergone so many managerial changes. Postecoglou was at one extreme and Jose Mourinho was at the other.

However, I believe Frank will deliver results and give the fans the type of football they want from Brentford, as opposed to what we saw at Brentford.

It’s naive to think this team won’t advance and become more eye-catching because he has a much better squad at Spurs than he has ever been with Brentford, which I totally agree with.

Aspinall requires further tests on eye injury in UK

Images courtesy of Getty

After his no-showessel-up title defense against Ciryl Gane ended in a no-fight, UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is in need of more eye testing.

In the middle of Gane’s headline performance in Abu Dhabi, Gane accidentally poked the Briton in the both eyes.

Aspinall was unable to continue, quoting Jason Herzog as “I can’t see,” and the incident was dismissed as a no-show with the Mancunian holding on to his belt.

He did not appear for the post-fight press conference after the fight and was taken to the hospital.

The 32-year-old spent a year recovering from surgery after suffering a serious knee injury in 2022, which damaged his meniscus and medial collateral ligament (MCL) and caused damage to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Aspinall stated, “It’s a dangerous sport.”

After being elevated from interim status following the retirement of former champion Jon Jones, Aspinall was defending his title for the first time.

On Sunday, he returned to England, where he will have further tests to determine the extent of the damage.

After the eye poke, UFC President Dana White stated in the post-fight press conference that Aspinall “didn’t want to continue.”

Meghan Markle reveals clearest glimpse of Archie and Lilibet in sweet video

After visiting a pumpkin patch, Meghan Markle gave a sweet insight into Sussex’s life as they prepare to celebrate the spooky season.

Meghan Markle gave fans a huge glimpse into her family life with the clearest shot of her kids yet. The former Suits star filmed her two children and husband, Prince Harry, as they got ready for the spooky season.

The Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram to share a sneak peek as the clan enjoyed a day at a pumpkin patch. In the sweet clip, Princess Lilibet, four, was seen searching for the best of a small bunch of white pumpkins, while six-year-old Prince Archie watched on to see how best to carve.

Harry follows behind with a carving knife as the children run through rows of enormous pumpkins and fall in love with life. Later, while his two children are watching, he is seen sketching his masterpiece.

The family is seen laughing as Meghan captures these precious moments. And when she uploaded the video, she simply stated, “Happy Sunday.”

Harry reportedly wants his kids to come back to the UK. The Prince is said to love having his children educate in Britain.

A source told the Daily Mail last month, “I can tell you that Harry wants to educate the children here in the UK.” They added that he and the other party were having a conversation about it while they were away.

According to them, “Harry feels that his children are missing out on the extensive family network that their nieces and nephews are enjoying.” Harry wants his kids to receive the best education.

He has retained the confidants from his early years at Ludgrove and Eton as his closest friends. For his own children, he wants that.

However, it’s claimed Meghan’s husband may not be as open to the idea. The Duchess of Sussex would need to be persuaded of the plan, and it is said that she finds the idea of boarding school cruel. The friend claimed that Harry and Meghan would engage in some “negotiating” in some.

Meghan has been teasing the most recent As Ever product launch away from her children. On both her and the brand’s social media platforms, she has been dropping “save the date” messages.

In a few days, the latest product from the limited seasonal collections will be available. Simply put, the former actress simply advises fans to save October 28 in their diary in the brief clip that she shared. No further details were provided.

Even the shortest snippet did enough to pique fans’ interest. Several supporters tweeted their opinions on X and Twitter. You see Meghan minding her business, working for her coins, and just being a ray of sunshine, one user said. We enjoy seeing things. The release date for “New As Ever products” is the following week.
