Amanda Owen reveals brutal truth of Clive divorce as she feared for her life

The Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen has revealed for the first time the true toll of her split from husband Clive that saw them both fearing for her life.

In a new interview Amanda recalls her darkest days after the pair called time on their marriage after 22 years. Amanda, who is mum to their nine children, reveals she suffered an eating disorder from which she is only now emerging.

Amanda says the disorder was part of a ‘cataclysmic’ breakdown she endured after splitting with Clive and embarking on a new short-lived new relationship with web designer Rob Davies, 72.

‘I just shut down.” Amanda tells the Daily Mail. “Physical and mental health are intertwined and anxiety, depression, paranoia, agoraphobia and an eating disorder were all smooshed into one.’

Amanda said she always had issues with food and eating – which was amplified by her nine pregnancies.

“The children witnessed it all. It has taught them resilience. It’s a weird sort of double life. You have moments of extreme strength, of feeling belligerent and spiky, then times when you feel the rug has been pulled from under you.

“I was back and forth to the hospital, to the doctors; it was a critical time and we were also doing the renovation at Anty John’s [the property that features in Our Farm Next Door].”

Clive said there were nights he feared he would not see Amanda the next morning.

Amanda says: “One Valentine’s night I went outside in the dark and something happened in my throat and I was throwing up blood. It was awful. The eating disorder has always bubbled up beneath the surface but I never imagined it would happen to that degree. Clive, in his basic, simplistic way said: “Why don’t you just eat summat?” There were a couple of times when I went out gathering [sheep] and I just flaked out. They had to come and get me.”

Amanda said it was a comfort to know that Clive would always have her back despite their separation.

“We can split up, shout the farm down, but we’ll always be there for each other,” said Clive.

Fans slam FIFA, demand halt to ‘extortionate’ 2026 World Cup ticket sales

Football’s leading fan organisations have demanded FIFA immediately stop selling tickets for next year’s World Cup, to be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico, warning that prices reaching nearly $9,000 for premium final seats will exclude supporters from the tournament.

Football Supporters Europe, which called the ticket pricing “extortionate”, issued the call on Thursday after national associations began circulating price lists showing costs up to seven times higher than the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The group described the pricing structure as a “monumental betrayal” of the tournament’s traditions and called for urgent consultations before sales continue.

A fan attending every match next June and July from the group stage through the championship game faces costs of at least $6,900 via official supporter channels, based on price details released by Germany, England and Croatia’s football federations.

Premium tickets for the July 19 final at MetLife Stadium in New York are priced at $8,680, compared with roughly $1,600 for the equivalent category in Qatar.

FIFA is already under the microscope in the wake of its President Gianni Infantino’s effusive praise for US President Donald Trump and the doling out by the world football governing body of an inaugural peace prize award to the US leader, who was infuriated to be bypassed for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

That has triggered a formal complaint over ethics violations and political neutrality. Human rights group FairSquare said on Tuesday that it has filed a complaint with FIFA’s ethics committee, claiming the organisation’s behaviour was against the common interests of the global football community.

The latest controversy comes as FIFA began its third phase of ticket sales, with variable pricing now applied to group stage matches based on what the governing body terms fixture “attractiveness”, though it has not explained how this is calculated.

England’s opening match against Croatia carries a $523 price tag for seats behind the goal, while Scotland supporters will pay less for comparable matches, creating what critics call an opaque two-tier system.

“For the prices that have been put up by FIFA, we’re a bit stunned,” Football Supporters Europe executive director Ronan Evain said.

He warned that final tickets approaching $4,000 would strip stadiums of the atmosphere that makes the tournament compelling, adding that “none of this will happen” at current pricing levels.

Henry Winter, a prominent football writer in the UK, cautioned that excluding passionate supporters who generate atmosphere risks turning the competition into what he termed the “Corporate Games,” potentially leaving broadcasters, who pay FIFA substantial sums, facing empty seats and muted crowds.

For fans travelling from outside North America, the financial burden extends far beyond tickets. Gary Al-Smith, who covers African football, noted that supporters “will fly in from outside the US, spend on lodging and feeding,” warning this would prove “one helluva costly World Cup for fans”.

The pricing represents a dramatic departure from FIFA’s 2018 bid document for the tournament across the US, Canada and Mexico, which projected group stage tickets starting at $21.

Taylor Swift bursts into tears as she breaks silence on Southport stabbings

Taylor Swift has emotionally opened up about the “violent” and “scary” Southport attack last year, breaking down in tears as she spoke about the tragic deaths. In July last year, three young girls were killed and ten children injured Axel Rudakubana, 17, attacked a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop in Southport, Merseyside in a mass stabbing spree.

Bebe King, six and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, died at the scene from their injuries, while Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, died in hospital the following day. Rudakubana was sentenced to life in prison for their murders with judge Mr Justice Goose calling it “the most extreme, shocking and exceptionally serious crime”.

Speaking about the incident in her new documentary, End of an Era, Taylor said: “We’ve had a series of violent, scary things happen to the tour like we dodged a massacre situation and so I’ve just been all over the place.

Taylor became upset as she spoke about the horrific killings

“There was this horrible attack at a Taylor Swift themed dance party and it was little kids,” she said, as she became upset. Through tears, she whispered: “I have a hard time explaining it.”

Still crying, Taylor spoke about meeting the families of the victims at one of her upcoming gigs. “I’m gonna meet some of these families tonight and put on a pop concert, you know? I’m gonna be fine because when I meet them, I’m not gonna do this I swear to god. I’m gonna be smiling.

“So any of this gets out of the way, before you ever go on stage, you lock it off. Three and a half hours, they don’t have to worry about you.

“It’s like you’re a pilot flying the plane and if you were like, ‘There’s turbulence up again, I’m don’t know if we’re actually going to land in Dallas. I’m going to try hard but I don’t know if I can actually land in this turbulence.’ Everyone on the plane is going to freak out. You have to have a calm, collected tone.”

Taylor was midway through her record-breaking Eras tour when the attack happened, with the pop star releasing a statement on social media the day after. “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock,” she wrote.

“The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class.

“I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”

The documentary marks the first time that Taylor has spoken about the horrific incident on camera.

Taylor Swift: End of an Era follows the American pop star as she embarks on her international tour, which began in March 2023 and ended in December the following year.

Only two more matches until Christmas arrives but will our English Football League sides be ruled naughty or nice?

Leicester boss Marti Cifuentes, Portsmouth’s John Mousinho and Ryan Mason of West Bromwich Albion will all be hoping to reignite a little faith in their managerial prowess before the Christmas puddings hit the table.

While over in League Two, Swindon Town manager Ian Holloway is planning on playing Krampus by giving his old team Bristol Rovers nightmares when they make the short trip along the M4.

Tractor Boys motoring as Foxes stall

A close-up of Leicester City boss Marti CifuentesShutterstock

Neither Leicester City nor Ipswich Town could say they have thrived on their return to the Championship – but only one is on the rise.

It has taken some time but the Tractor Boys look like they are finally motoring, rising to fourth in the table with the joint-second highest goal tally (34) and just one defeat across their past 10 matches (W6 D3).

On the other hand, it’s been a while since the King Power has felt so powerless.

The Foxes have only won three of their nine home league games this season, with just one of those coming within their past seven games on their own soil.

With a potential points deductions on the horizon, Leicester are running out of time to live up to their great expectations.

Poor Pompey must find their pomp

Portsmouth players huddling together during their match against SwanseaShutterstock

If you come across a Portsmouth fan on your travels, be warned. They may be looking fairly glum.

Defenders Regan Poole and Josh Knight are the latest to join the injury list and given the side’s dire performances of late, they are struggling to fill the vacancies left by important absentees.

Squad depth has cost them but what their loyal followers will be more worried about is that they don’t seem to be picking up points when it really counts.

A 1-0 loss to fellow strugglers Swansea on Tuesday, with a goal conceded in the 78th minute, has put them two points adrift of safety and, without much time to ponder over it, they host 20th placed Blackburn Rovers on Saturday (15:00 GMT).

The Lancashire side have drawn their past three league games while Portsmouth have lost three on the bounce.

However, Pompey boss John Mousinho still thinks there are positives to take to from their latest disappointing outing.

“There’s large parts of that performance that were good. If we had not conceded, we would be sitting here with a very different tone,” Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent after the loss to the Swans.

Is Mason feeling the pressure?

West Bromwich Albion boss Ryan Mason watching his side from the dugoutGetty Images

West Bromwich Albion put up a good fight to come from 3-0 down at half-time to Southampton on Tuesday to end the match just one goal short of securing a point… but it’s not quite enough.

Even with striker Aune Heggebo finally firing, Albion appear to still be missing the mark.

The Norwegian has scored six across their past six games after finding the net just once in their previous 14. But is it winning them games? Of those six, they’ve won just two and both to relegation threatened sides Oxford United and Swansea City.

What can boss Ryan Mason do to turn the tide? Maybe he could look to visiting Blades boss Chris Wilder for inspiration before their game on Friday (20:00).

Wilder has managed to get his Sheffield United side scoring after a poor start, with 14 goals in their past five matches, compared to 11 from the previous 15 games.

The difference between the two sides is that the Blades are winning, claiming victory in four of those five games in a six-match undefeated streak to see them climb up from the bottom three to just two points behind the Baggies.

Stockport seek to storm Stevenage’s defences

A close up of Stevenage boss Alex RevellShutterstock

A seemingly impossible task lies ahead for Stockport, who have the unenviable task of attempting to be the first side to serve visitors Stevenage back-to-back losses this season when they host the sixth-placed team on Saturday (15:00 GMT).

It took 441 minutes for a side to score against the Boro until League One leaders Cardiff City finally found the back of the Stevenage net in the 85th minute last time out.

Stevenage’s defence is the best in the English Football League, conceding just 12 goals across their 17 games, while Stockport have scored just three goals in the third tier since the start of November.

Two of those goals did come in their win over Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday though and with just two points separating them from the top two, the Hatters will be up for the challenge.

“We’ve got ourselves in a position that when we lose football matches, it becomes a bit of a surprise and a panic,” Stockport boss Dave Challinor told BBC Radio Manchester following the 2-0 victory over Rovers.

Do Bristol Rovers have the gas to survive the M4 derby?

A photo of Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke looking dejectedShutterstock

Bristol Rovers are on a nine-game losing streak in League Two but somehow, miraculously, remain outside the bottom two by a single point.

Boss Darrell Clarke doesn’t appear to have the answers though and even starting with five defenders on the pitch he couldn’t prevent a 4-0 thrashing from Barnet on Tuesday evening.

Clarke was very honest in his post-match assessment – calling the performance “diabolical” and offering supporters an apology as he vowed to fight on.

It feels like it couldn’t get much worse, could it?

Perhaps. They next face high-flying West Country rivals Swindon Town, thriving under the guidance of someone the Gas know very well.

Robins manager Ian Holloway began his footballing career in Bristol, making 113 appearance over various spells with Rovers before embarking on his long managerial journey with the side in 1996 as a player-manager.
