England fly-half George Ford has signed a new three-year contract with Prem side Sale Sharks.

Ford, 32, has been with Sale since joining from Leicester Tigers in the summer of 2022, making 44 appearances and racking up 341 points.

In that time, the Sharks have been the only club to finish in the top four in each season although the closest they came to winning the title was losing to Saracens in the final in 2023.

Ford has won 102 caps for England, making his debut in 2014, and was co-captain for the tour of Argentina and the USA in July.

“With the players and the coaches that we have here, I feel like I can still improve and be challenged as a player,” he said.

Ford has been one of the most consistent players in The Prem since his move to Sale, with the number 10 at the heart of their consistent play and helping them finish second, fourth and third respectively in the regular-season table.

Many observers felt he was unlucky not to be included in the British and Irish Lions squad for the tour of Australia this summer, but missing out enabled him to pick up his 100th England cap in the win over Argentina in La Plata.

He has carried on his good form into the new domestic season, scoring 30 points in Sale’s opening three games in The Prem, while he will hope to be part of Steve Borthwick’s England squad for next month’s four autumn internationals at Allianz Stadium.

“I want to keep playing well for Sale Sharks and I want to keep influencing the team as much as I can,” said Ford. “That comes first.

‘George could have pick of any club’

For Sale’s director of rugby Alex Sanderson, being able to tie down a player of Ford’s ability is a huge statement of intent as they try to land a first Prem title since 2006.

“George is in the form of his life and he’s a player we’ve built a team around,” said Sanderson.

“He’s the sort of player who attracts top quality players to want to play for the club because they all want to learn from him.

Gov Mbah Desecrated Public Trust By Defecting To APC — Udenta

The founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy, Udenta Udenta, has criticised the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Wednesday’s edition of Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, Udenta, a professor, described the move as a desecration of public trust.

He said political mandates belong to political parties and not individuals, stressing that Governor Mbah’s defection undermined the sanctity of democratic representation.

“Individuals are anonymous; mandates are given to political parties, not to individuals. Individuals, as important as they are, are very small players in this game of power because the party is the symbol of power.

“The people in their millions troop out to vote for a party, so Peter Mbah did not win the elections; the PDP won the election in Enugu State.

“He just held on to the trust for the people, and that trust was desacralised yesterday [Tuesday] because it was almost an abominable act,” he stated.

Udenta described the governor’s action as not just a political misstep but also a moral and cultural failing, saying the South-East must reflect on the implications of such political conduct.

“People gave you a mandate in their millions and you say, ‘I have a broom somewhere,’” he said.

“In conversing on this matter, people should be very careful about the kind of democratic tradition and culture we are building. Yesterday was not a political surrender for the South-East; it was a cultural surrender because you must understand that there are some moral boundaries you don’t cross in politics.

“We have crossed several, and the media has a role to play,” the professor added.

He, therefore, cautioned against what he called the normalisation of unethical political behaviour, noting that while certain constitutional provisions might not make defections illegal, they still reflect “clearly unsavory and unethical conduct” among the political class.

“You can’t build an inclusive model of party democracy when people see, maybe not illegal but clearly unethical conduct on the part of the political class,” he added.

The professor’s comments followed Governor Mbah’s official defection to the APC during a statewide broadcast on Tuesday.

“There comes always a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny.

“Today, after a long reflection, we have made a decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” Mbah had stated during the broadcast.

Succession star Brian Cox say he ‘failed’ in first marriage after tying the knot at 21

The Scottish actor, who is well known for playing the Roy family patriarch in Succession, has admitted he sometimes feels like a failure over his first marriage not working out

While reflecting on his younger years, Brian Cox admitted he believes he “failed” in his first marriage after getting hitched at the young age of 21.

The Succession star, 79, opened up about the breakdown of that relationship and other challenges he faced while growing up during an appearance on the Coaching Stories podcast with Dr Sam Humphrey.

Brian married his first wife, Lilian Monroe-Carr, in 1966 but the couple split just a year later. He spoke about that time in his life, saying: “The only time I failed, I think, is probably in my private relationships. Certainly with my first marriage, it was not easy, and I think that’s where I kind of fell down.

“Professionally, everything was in good nick, but I got married when I was very young. My mother used to say: ‘Brian, don’t get married too young. Your brother, affy stupid, got married when he was 20. Don’t get married when you’re 20’. I got married when I was 21… and I think I did get married too young.”

After that brief marriage ended in 1967, the Dundee-born actor went on to tie the knot with Caroline Burt in 1968. The pair were together for nearly two decades and had two children — Margaret and Alan, who followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming an actor. Brian and Caroline then got divorced in 1986.

The actor later found lasting love with German actor and yoga instructor Nicole Ansari-Cox, who he married in 2002. They share two sons, Orson Jonathan and Torin Kamran.

During the podcast, Cox also touched on his difficult childhood, which was filled with instability after the death of his father when he was just eight years old.

His mother’s subsequent mental health struggles left him to navigate much of his early life alone. “I was basically on my own from the age of eight until about 11,” he shared.

“I used to go to the cinema all the time. As a kid, I just went to the cinema endlessly. We had 21 cinemas in Dundee at one point, and I visited them all. I used to go on my own.”

Dr Humphrey, the podcast’s host and CEO of Grit Coaching, praised Brian for his candour after the interview, saying: “Brian was surprisingly open, vulnerable, and deeply personal in our discussion. It can be easy to brush past mistakes aside and not dwell on them — his honest account will no doubt inspire so many others.”

Brian is best known for his role as media mogul Logan Roy in HBO’s Succession, but the Emmy winner recently took on a very different challenge as The Controller in Prime Video’s 007: Road to a Million.

He described the second series of the reality show as “infinitely more dramatic” ahead of its premiere in August 2025, and added that he enjoys exploring the psychology of the contestants as they face high-stakes challenges.
