Chelsea’s Maresca Banned For Forest Match After Wild Celebration

Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca was given a one-match touchline ban on Wednesday for dissent and over-celebrating a last-gasp goal in a 2-1 Premier League win over Liverpool on October 4.

The Italian will now be banned from the touchline for Chelsea’s match away to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday.

He has also been fined £8,000 ($10,685) and the Football Association said Maresca openly admitted the misconduct charge.

He was given a yellow card for railing against a penalty decision and picked up a second one in the sixth minute of stoppage time for wildly celebrating Estevao Willian’s angled winner during a desperate onslaught.

Chelsea had lost their previous two matches before tackling Liverpool at home, and the win lifted them to sixth place at that time as under-fire Maresca avoided a third successive league defeat.

Canada threatens Stellantis with legal action over moving production to US

Canada has threatened legal action against carmaker Stellantis NV over what Ottawa says is the company’s unacceptable plan to shift production of one model to a United States plant.

On Wednesday, Minister of Industry Melanie Joly sent a letter to Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa noting that the company had agreed to maintain its Canadian presence in exchange for substantial financial support.

“Anything short of fulfilling that commitment will be considered a default under our agreement,” she said. If Stellantis did not live up to its commitment, Canada would “exercise all options, including legal”, she said.

Stellantis announced a $13bn investment in the US on Tuesday, a move that it said would bring five new models to the market. As part of the plan, production of the Jeep Compass will move to the US state of Illinois from a facility in Brampton in the Canadian province of Ontario.

A copy of the letter was made available to the Reuters news agency. The existence of the letter was first reported by Bloomberg.

Stellantis had paused retooling of the Brampton plant in February, shortly after US President Donald Trump announced tariffs against Canadian goods, upending the highly integrated North American auto industry.

In a statement on Tuesday night, Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney said Ottawa had made clear it expected Stellantis to fulfil the undertakings it had made to the workers at the plant.

“We are working with the company to develop the right measures to protect Stellantis employees,” he said.

Ontario is Canada’s industrial heartland and accounts for about 40 percent of its national gross domestic product (GDP).

“I have spoken with Stellantis to stress my disappointment with their decision,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said on social media on Wednesday.

Stellantis spokesperson LouAnn Gosselin said the company was investing in Canada and noted plans to add a third shift to a plant in Windsor, Ontario.

Tom Cruise ‘splits from girlfriend Ana de Armas’ just three months after going public

Top Gun star Tom Cruise has reportedly split from his actress girlfriend Ana de Armas after just a few months together as they decided they are better off as friends

Actor Tom Cruise has reportedly split from his girlfriend Ana de Armas after just a few months together. The Top Gun star, 63, enjoyed a brief romance with the actress, 37, after first being linked to each other in February as they attempted to keep things lowkey.

They were spotted on a series of dates and went public in the spring. However, reports have now suggested they have called time on their romance after realising they are better off as friends.

It has been claimed that the relationship “ran its course” and “they aren’t dating anymore”. A source explained: “They just realised they weren’t going to go the distance and that they are better off as mates.

“The spark had gone between them, but they still love each other’s company, and they’ve both been really adult about it.” They added to The Sun: “She’s already been cast in his next film, so they will continue to work together.”

Tom and Ana finally made their romance official after months of speculation when they stepped out hand in hand in Woodstock, Vermont. They strolled along a quiet street with a small group of friends while holding hands.

The public display of affection came just days after the pair were seen in London. They reportedly travelled together on Tom’s private helicopter and attended one of the Oasis concerts at Wembley Stadium.

Earlier in July, Tom and Ana were also seen on holiday in Menorca, Spain, where they were photographed relaxing together aboard a luxury yacht, and they looked comfortable and close with one another. While neither publicly confirmed a romantic relationship, their regular outings and joint travel plans left many to believe they were more than friends.

The two actors were first linked on Valentine’s Day after being seen dining together in London. Their meeting was initially described as professional, but their continued time together has sparked rumours.

Two months later, Ana and Tom were spotted in the capital once again as they celebrated her birthday. According to a source who spoke to Mail Online, Cruise was “showering Ana with gifts ever since they met.”

They added: “First, it started with her favourite flowers, then books he thought she would want to read because she’s an avid reader. As they got to know each other, the gifts became more personal – jewellery, designer clothes, and more.

“Probably the biggest gift he has given her is the freedom to travel anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice.” Ana was previously thought to be dating Manuel Anido Cuesta, the stepson of Cuba’s president.

Tom was previously linked to Russian socialite Elsina Khayrova. He was also married to actress Nicole Kidman, who recently announced her shock split from husband Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage.

After divorcing Tom, Nicole fell for American country singer Keith, with the pair marrying in 2006 and welcoming two daughters together. But last month, it was revealed that the pair were calling time on their marriage.

The Mirror has contacted Tom and Ana’s representatives for comment.

Lagos Accuses NASS Of Violating Supreme Court Ruling On Central Gaming Bill

The Lagos State Government has faulted the move by the National Assembly to repeal the National Lottery Act and replace it with the proposed Central Gaming Bill, describing it as a direct violation of the Nigerian Constitution and a subsisting judgement of the Supreme Court.

Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, warned at a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday that the Bill, now before the Senate, after passage by the House of Representatives, amounts to legislative overreach and a potential trigger for constitutional crisis.

Pedro explained that the Bill, which seeks to regulate all forms of online and remote gaming across the country, directly contradicts a Supreme Court judgement delivered on October 13, 2024, in a suit filed by Lagos State and 22 other states against the Attorney-General of the Federation.

According to him, the apex court had ruled unequivocally that gaming, lotteries and betting are residual matters within the exclusive jurisdiction of state governments, except in the Federal Capital Territory.

“As the Chief Law Officer of Lagos State, it is both my constitutional duty and responsibility to draw the nation’s attention to the voyage of unconstitutionality embarked upon by the National Assembly to enact Act to Regulate the Operation and Business of All Forms of Online and Remote Gaming Across the Geographical Boundaries of the Federating Units and Beyond the Borders of Nigeria.

“This Bill had earlier been passed by the House of Representatives and is now before the Senate for concurrence and on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria held a concurring session on a proposed legislation titled:

“A Bill for an Act to Repeal the National Lottery Act No. 7 of 2005 and the National Lottery (Amendment) Act No. 6 of 2017, and to Enact the Central Gaming Bill to Regulate the Operation and Business of All Forms of Online and Remote Gaming Across the Geographical Boundaries of the Federating Units and Beyond the Borders of Nigeria, Provide for the Conduct of Gaming in the Federal Capital Territory, and Enhance Revenue Generation for the Federation and for Related Matters.”

“Nigerian would recall that on the 13th October 2024 the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered a judgement in the case Suit No. SC/1/2008 – AG LAGOS & 22 ORS V. AG FED & 13 ORS in favour of Lagos State and 22 other State.

“In that landmark judgment, the Supreme Court held that:
“Lotteries, betting, gaming and any other games of chance are residual matters falling within the exclusive legislative competence of the States, except in the Federal Capital Territory”

“Perhaps the respected members of the National Assembly in particular in the House of Representatives that passed the Bill and some members of the Senate who are in support of the Bill may not have read the judgment of the Supreme Court on the subject”.

He added that the court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining the Federal Government and its agencies from enforcing the National Lottery Act or any similar legislation within the territory of any state.

Pedro warned that the proposed Bill, if passed, would not only defy this ruling but also undermine the foundation of Nigeria’s federal structure.

“Any attempt to legislate again on the same subject amounts to defiance of the Supreme Court, a violation of the Constitution and an invitation to constitutional chaos,” he said.

The Attorney-General also faulted claims by some lawmakers that online or remote gaming falls under federal jurisdiction because of its cross-border nature.

He said: “Online does not mean federal. If online activity automatically becomes federal, then the United Nations should regulate it globally. The use of technology does not alter the legal character of gaming, which remains a state matter whether done physically or virtually.”

Pedro further cautioned that the proposed Central Gaming Bill could open the floodgates of gambling activities even in states where cultural or religious values prohibit such practices.

“If the Bill becomes law, it will allow operators to set up gaming businesses across all states, including those where gambling is forbidden by religion or tradition. This could create social tension and conflict,” he warned.

He described the National Assembly’s move as inconsistent with its current nationwide consultation efforts aimed at devolving more powers to subnational governments.

“It will be a contradiction of spirit and purpose for the same National Assembly that is canvassing devolution of powers to now attempt to reclaim powers already affirmed by the Supreme Court to belong to the states,” he said.

Pedro reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment, alongside 22 other states, to resist any legislative or executive action that undermines the integrity of the Supreme Court and the autonomy of state governments.

“This is not about Lagos State alone,” he said. “It is about Nigeria, about protecting the integrity of the Supreme Court and preserving the federal structure as guaranteed by the Constitution.”

He urged the National Assembly to withdraw the proposed Central Gaming Bill in the interest of constitutional order and national stability.

Glasgow stun Koge with two late goals to progress in Europa Cup

Glasgow City scored twice in stoppage time to secure a dramatic win over Koge after an eight-goal thriller and move into the inaugural Women’s Europa Cup’s last 16.

The Danish league leaders had dominated last week’s first leg and travelled to Petershill Park with a slender lead, but it is City who will enter Friday’s draw after winning 5-3 on the night to progress 6-5 on aggregate.

It looked like City’s hopes of a comeback had been extinguished after just three minutes when, as she did in the first leg, Mille Gejl opened the scoring for Koge.

The former Crystal Palace midfielder took a short corner to Rikke Madsen and latched on to her fellow Denmark international’s cutback from the byeline before steering her low drive into the far corner from just inside the penalty box.

However, City were pinging the ball about far quicker than in the first leg in Denmark and were back level on the night within six minutes.

Captain Amy Muir set Nicole Kozlova down the left wing and the former Koge player’s low ball into the penalty box was fired home by strike partner Abby Harrison.

A couple of fine saves from goalkeeper Lee Gibson denied the visitors before City were back level on aggregate on 25 minutes when Emily Whelan headed powerfully home after left-back Muir crossed to the back post.

City’s joy only lasted two minutes as veteran former Manchester City and Denmark forward Nadia Nadim turned in from the left wing and sent a right-foot drive looping over Gibson and into the far corner.

Glasgow were ahead again on the night when Harrison rose with visiting goalkeeper Ema Aleksic to meet a Lisa Evans corner and the ball deflected off Emma Pelkowski and into her own net.

Fellow midfielder Sarah Thygesen pounced on an Emma Brownlie error to slot what looked like a killer strike for the Danes six minutes from normal time.

However, Brownlie made amends by rising to meet another Evans corner and level the score on aggregate as the game entered added time.

Just when it looked like extra time might be needed, Lisa Forrest headed a cross from fellow substitute forward Sofia Maatta over the stranded goalkeeper to signal joyous scenes among the home support and tears from the stunned visitors.

Glasgow City: Gibson, Brownlie, Golob, Smit, Muir, Motlhalo, Lauder, Evans, Whelan, Kozlova, Harrison.

Substitutes: Clachers, Warrington, McLaughlin, Forrest, Lockwood, Wróbel, Anderson, Määttä, Tanaka, Boyes.

Koge: Aleksic, Markvardsen, Uhre, Brandt, Schultz, Korhonen, Gejl, Jereko, Lacho, Nadim, Madsen.

‘One of City’s greatest European nights’

Former Scotland and Glasgow City goalkeeper Gemma Fay

Is this one of the greatest nights in European history for Glasgow City? Emphatically, you must answer yes.

To score two goals in injury time after losing a goal in the 85th minute, it’s phenomenal.

There’s not many words that can describe what we’ve seen here tonight.

An absolutely astounding game of European football and, to a player out there, they worked their absolute socks off.

Yes, there were mistakes, but how they recovered from it, everybody should stand up and take notice of that.

You are going to make mistakes in every walk of life, but it’s how you react.

And there is a classic example there. Emma Brownlie miss-kicks the ball and Koge score, but she steps up and puts the ball in the back of the net.

Absolutely phenomenal. Glasgow City in Europe is just a thing. They can’t help but create excitement, they can’t help but have moments like this. They can’t help but do the unexpected.

You can never sit back and think, ‘that’s just it’. Not when the opposition score in the first moments to go 3-1 up on aggregate. Not when the opposition score in the 85th minute.
