Gino D’Acampo blasted over ‘disturbing’ cooking video branded ‘highly inappropriate’

Under-fire 42-year-old TV chef Gino D’Acampo has angered fans by his treatment of live animals with one vowing to go vegetarian after watching his ‘upsetting’ video

TV chef Gino D’Acampo has provoked fury after uploading an ‘alarming’ cooking video involving two cute live quails.

Gino – battling allegations of sexually inappropriate behaviour which has seen ITV drop the star – caused outrage with the clip on social media. Seen before he prepares a meal, the 42-year-old kisses the live creatures in the first shot after grabbing them tight. Then, in the follow up, the Italian dangles the animals’ corpses as Bob Marley’s song Three Little Birds plays, before plating up the cooked quails.

He captioned the video: “And that’s how it’s done!!!… Chargrilled Quails with zucchine and garlic vinaigrette. The perfect summer’s dish… Ask your butcher for quails, try it and let me know.” But his actions have enraged fans, who hit out the telly star for his treatment of the animals. MirrorOnline have approached Gino for his response to their response.

“I’m not a vegan, but this anthropocentric exhibitionism disgusts me,” one told him. Another hit out, saying: “Disturbing and upsetting. It’s like showing a cute puppy and then showing it euthanized.” A third person told the star: “I just feel numb and thinking now about becoming a vegetarian tbh.”

The star took a step away from public life following allegations of sexually inappropriate behaviour aimed at him – claims he strongly denies. As a result former This Morning host Gino was removed from ITV’s programming in February. ITV reported that dozens of former staff and freelancers made allegations about working with Gino, calling his behaviour over a reported 12 year period “unacceptable,” “distressing,” and “horrendous”.

Since the allegations, his shows have been pulled from ITV’s schedule. Gino, 48, “firmly denied” accusations of inappropriate behaviour including using sexualised and aggressive language over a period of 12 years made following an ITV News investigation, and it has been reported he is using his time to flog his property.

He said the claims against him were “simply not in my nature”. Amid the reports, it was claimed Gordon Ramsay, his co-star in Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Road Trip, had distanced himself from the presenter. But Gino insists they’re still firm friends. Now the Italian presenter has revealed plans to return to telly with a new travelogue, to be filmed later this year.

Responding to the claims in their entirety in a statement to ITV News, Gino said: “I have been told by ITN news that allegations have been made about me acting inappropriately, some dating back over ten years ago. I have never been made aware of these matters previously and the allegations are firmly denied.

“I would not do anything that I thought would upset or distress anyone. This is simply not in my nature. I do not recognise the version of events being put to me. “Not only have these allegations never been raised with me before, I have been repeatedly supported by executives at the highest level and was commissioned on prime-time programmes during the period in which it is now suggested I was acting inappropriately.

“I am a father, husband and have worked with well over 1,500 people on around 80 productions in my career, which I have been so proud of. I take such matters extremely seriously and the suggestion that I have acted in an improper way against is deeply upsetting.”

Gino made some crass remarks in radio interview last week as he returns to spotlight. In sexualised comments about women’s bodies, he told show hosts that a “real man” wants women to have “things to grab”, while explaining that he prefers a curvier figure.

England won’t move ‘world-class’ Smith up order – McCullum

Head coach Brendon McCullum says England will not be tempted to move Jamie Smith up the order – or bring in Jacob Bethell as a spin-bowling all-rounder.

Wicketkeeper Smith made scores of 184 not out and 88 batting at number seven in England’s heavy second-Test defeat by India at Edgbaston.

Bethell, 21, has so far been overlooked during the India series, but his left-arm spin would be an option if England wanted to replace frontline off-spinner Shoaib Bashir or lengthen their batting.

Asked whether Bethell could come in as an all-round option, the New Zealander added: “You never say never to do anything, right? But that’s certainly not what we’re looking at, at the moment, no.”

Smith averages 58.64 in the 12 Tests he has played since making his debut last summer.

The 24-year-old is not the first-choice gloveman for his county Surrey, where he plays as a specialist batter at number four.

The swashbuckling unbeaten 184 he made against India in the second Test was an astonishing innings, a superb counter-attacking effort when England found themselves 84-5. It was both the highest score by an England wicketkeeper and number seven.

One possible move for England would be to move Smith to number three, the position occupied by Ollie Pope. Though Pope made a century in the first-Test defeat of India, he can be inconsistent and could swap with Smith, sliding down the order and keeping wicket, as he has for England in six previous Tests.

But McCullum, himself a former Test keeper, drew comparisons between Smith and Australia legend Adam Gilchrist, who also batted at seven.

“He does look world class,” said McCullum. “When we made the decision to bring Jamie Smith into Test cricket, we were hopeful that he’d be able to have that sort of impact, obviously in the middle, but also being able to have the power that he’s got with the tail too.

Pope held off competition from Bethell for the number-three spot, although Bethell also offers the option of his left-arm spin.

Bashir has taken eight wickets in the India series, more than any other England bowler except Josh Tongue. However, the 21-year-old has been expensive – his wickets have cost almost 60 runs each and his economy is just below four an over.

However, McCullum said England will not “crowbar” Bethell into the team.

“He’s a batting option,” added the coach. “He’s the next one in if something happens.

“He wants to keep improving his bowling so that he can obviously impact the game across both the bat and ball. It’s not something we’d look at from a tactical point of view to do.”

One player set to be included in the England XI for the third Test at Lord’s, beginning on Thursday, is Jofra Archer.

The pace bowler, 30, has not played Test cricket in four years after a string of injuries, but seems likely to return as the home side freshen up their attack.

And McCullum said Archer is “certainly” available, despite bowling only 18 overs on his first-class comeback for Sussex last week.

“Jofra is looking fit, he’s looking strong, he’s looking ready to go, and he’ll come into calculations,” he added.

“It’s hugely exciting. He’s buzzing as well. He’s obviously been through his injuries and his time out of Test cricket.

Slade’s injury leaves England with rookie centres

Second Test: Argentina v England

Date: Saturday, 12 July Kick-off: 20:40 BST Venue: Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario, San Juan

Henry Slade is out of the tour of Argentina and the United States with a hand injury, leaving England with inexperienced midfield options as they attempt to seal a series win over the Pumas.

Slade played the full 80 minutes in the 35-12 first-Test win over Argentina in La Plata on Saturday but will miss the rematch in San Juan this weekend.

Seb Atkinson made his first Test appearance in La Plata while Max Ojomoh, Luke Northmore and Oscar Beard – the other specialist centres in the 36-player squad – are still uncapped.

Fraser Dingwall and Ollie Lawrence, who emerged as England’s first-choice midfield during the Six Nations, are both injured while the versatile Elliot Daly has returned from the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia with a fractured arm.

Slade, who won his 73rd England cap against Argentina, was also a back-up option at fly-half, with uncapped Charlie Atkinson the only direct cover for the experienced George Ford.

Co-captains Ford and Jamie George and flanker Sam Underhill – with 102, 100 and 41 caps respectively – are now the only players with more than 40 caps in the squad.

England, whose tour will conclude with a one-off Test against the United States on 19 July, have no plans to summon a replacement for Slade.

Steve Borthwick’s side produced one of their best performances of the head coach’s reign in La Plata, surviving the sin-binning of Alex Coles and Seb Atkinson to lead 3-0 at half-time, before accelerating away to victory via four second-half tries.

The win takes England above their opponents to fifth in the world ranking.

The Pumas, who rested some of their France-based players for the first Test, have brought in Bordeaux-Begles second row Guido Petti for the second game.
