Royal insider breaks silence on Prince Harry peace talks with telling update

An insider has spoken out about the meeting between senior aides to both the King and Prince Harry – and revealed what the summit in London means for future relations between father and son

A royal insider has offered fresh insight into the secret peace talks held between King Charles Prince Harry’s senior aides.

It has emerged that Harry’s chief communications officer, and Liam Maguire, who runs Harry and Meghan’s UK public relations team, met the King’s communications secretary Tobyn Andreae at the Royal Over-Seas League in London last week. The private member’s club is right by Clarence House – Charles’ London residence..

The meeting has been described by sources as informal, with casual drinks intended to open a channel of communication between both camps. It is unknown who exactly initiated the meeting.

And now, one royal insider has told PEOPLE magazine: “It was a good first step. It is always better to be talking.” They added: “It’s a positive step. There’s optimism that it can be taken forward.”

The rift between the Sussexes and the royal family opened significantly following their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, during which they alleged a member of the family was concerned about their son Archie’s skin tone before he was born.

Then the duke claimed in his controversial memoir, Spare, his brother Prince Willaim had physically attacked him and that the King put his own interests above Harry’s and was jealous of Meghan.

Harry’s level of security changed in 2020 when he and Meghan stepped down as working royals and moved to California for financial and personal freedom, and he suggested the royal family and officials hoped his realisation of the increased safety risk “would force us to come back”.

The duke failed in an appeal against the dismissal of his High Court claim against the Home Office, over the decision of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) that he should receive a different degree of protection when in the UK.

In a BBC television interview after losing the latest round in his court battle over his security, Harry claimed the King will not speak to him and he does not know “how much longer my father has” as he spoke of his hopes for a “reconciliation” with his family.

Sources told the Mirror that the King would welcome a royal reunion with Harry – but only if he scales back his public attacks on the family and stops the “endless” interviews.

However, it’s feared that Harry’s fractured relationship with William is harder to repair after his memoir Spare revealed the two had a physical fight over his relationship with Meghan.

The source said: “The King has consistently shown he loves both his sons and as he has done in the past is prepared to meet Harry when their diaries allow such an occasion. It’s not unusual for aides from different households to meet, especially when there is a new influx of staff starting their roles, but of course, this is a significant moment.

“Senior members of the family have in the past said to Harry that he must both stop his attacks on the family as well as giving endless rounds of broadcast interviews as his only way of communication. If there is a period of calm and reflection on the part of the Duke of Sussex, then there may be a way forward for him to begin along the road of repairing his relationship with his father.

“As for his relationship with his brother, that is a different matter entirely and one which he will find much harder to repair.”

Noel Gallagher fans notice same detail at Oasis gigs during UK tour

Oasis fans have been left impressed with the band’s live shows in Cardiff and Manchester, with one aspect of the performances in particular being praised by those in attendance

Oasis fans have been thrilled by the Gallagher brothers’ reunion tour. Noel and Liam Gallagher have received praise for their first joint performance in 16 years after the rock legends kicked off their comeback tour earlier this month in Cardiff before moving on to Heaton Park in Manchester.

The band’s live gigs have been a hit with the crowd, with gig-goers noting “one thing” keeps getting better each time the brothers take to the stage. A video clip of the Gallaghers performing together at Heaton Park was posted on the Oasis Reddit page, where it sparked a wave of compliments for the reformed group.

A fan pointed out that Noel’s musical skills appear to be sharpening with every show. “Noel’s guitar playing is getting better every night,” the fan said, clearly impressed by the older Gallagher brother.

“After seeing Anais’ [Noel’s daughter] Instagram story of her dad playing the Champagne Supernova solo last night, I couldn’t help but notice how Noel is seemingly getting better.

“Makes a lot of sense, with how little lead guitar he had done since (even before) Oasis originally split up. He definitely seemed a bit out of his element playing solos again, especially at Cardiff night one (makes sense).

“But now he seems to be getting more confident, in his playing and body posture (moving around more), just thought I’d share.”

Other supporters echoed this sentiment, observing that the High Flying Birds frontman appears to have become much more at ease onstage since Oasis’ first gig. One admirer commented: “It’s only been three shows and he already seems more confident than the first night in Cardiff.”

However, not everyone is stunned by Noel Gallagher’s showmanship, with one observer highlighting the ease of his guitar solos.

They wrote: “I see comments saying Noel must of have given his blood, sweat and tears for weeks on end in preparation to play these.

“I can barely play guitar and can play this stuff so I’m sure the guy who composed them and has played them 1000s of times wouldn’t have had too much trouble remembering how they go.”

A defender of Gallagher’s work replied: “Noel’s the first to tell you he’s not a good lead guitarist. But it doesn’t matter because his solos serve the song.”

Another fan added: “Correct, but there is a marked difference in his ease and attitude since the start. Of course there would be. The songs aren’t incredibly difficult, but the end of the tour I think he’ll be flying.”

Meanwhile an attendee of the first gig in Cardiff suggested the ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ craftsman appeared “nervous” during the bands inaugural reunion show.

England’s world number one amateur Woad turns pro

Getty Images

English golfer Lottie Woad believes she will have plenty of earning opportunities having turned professional just two days after nearly becoming the first amateur woman to win a major for 58 years.

The 21-year-old from Farnham missed out on more than £400,000 prize money after she finished third at last Sunday’s Evian Championship. A week earlier she won the Irish Open on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

“I’m excited to be turning professional,” Woad told BBC Sport. A hugely successful amateur career has ensured playing privileges on the both the LPGA Tour and LET.

As an amateur, she was unable to accept around £407,000 in prize money in France after forgoing a £58,000 cheque at Carton House the previous week. But missing out on such riches is of little concern to the Surrey youngster.

“I went into these events not being able to earn any money, so you can’t look at what you might have got afterwards,” she said. “There’ll be plenty of opportunities, I assume, in the future.

“It would definitely have been nice, but I really wasn’t caring about the money when I was trying to win the major.”

Woad, who has topped the world amateur rankings for more than a year, will make her pro debut at next week’s Scottish Open at Dundonald. Then she will compete at the season’s final major, the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl, which starts on 30 July.

“I think it will, for sure, feel different having turned professional,” Woad added. “I’m hoping the transition will not feel as difficult as it has for others.

“I’ve played in majors so I’ve got that experience and I’ve played on the LET too, so I can use all that to my advantage. And I’m going in with confidence so that is always good.

“Winning in Ireland was really special. I had a big lead and managed to win by six in the end so it was pretty stress free on the Sunday, which is probably the nicest way to get your first win and I was really happy with that performance.

“I put my foot down and played really well. I didn’t really get the chance to celebrate it because I went straight to the Evian and just focused on that.”

Last Sunday in France, Woad fired a final round 64, narrowly missing birdie chances on the last three greens.

“I knew if I started out hot I’d have a chance,” she said. “I was out an hour before the final group and was three under through four and was out in 30 and I knew I was right in the thick of it then.

“It felt great and I felt comfortable and I was exactly where I wanted to be. I’m surprised how relaxed I felt, but I guess I’d locked up my top 25 so at the very worst I was going to get my LPGA card.”

By finishing third, a stroke behind eventual champion Grace Kim and world number two Jeeno Thitikul at the Evian Championship, Woad comfortably secured the remaining two points she needed for that LPGA Tour eligibility.

The Florida State student was already all but guaranteed satisfying the eligibility criteria for the tour’s Elite Amateur Pathway which provides a route straight to the women’s game’s biggest circuit.

Easily attaining the top-25 finish that took her to the magic number of 20 eligibility points, meant that she would avoid potential golfing torture at qualifying school for the primary women’s tour.

“The sky’s the limit,” England Golf performance director Nigel Edwards told BBC Sport after her win in Ireland.

“She clearly has that belief and that’s one of the hardest places to get your mindset to.”

Solheim Cup star Madelene Sagstrom, who Woad beat in Ireland, said: “She’s going to take European and American golf by storm very soon.”

Last year, Woad claimed three late birdies to land the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur, on the eve of the men’s Masters, in thrilling fashion. She is also a former winner of the Girls’ Amateur Championship.

For Florida State, she has been an extraordinarily consistent performer. This year she posted two wins among 10 top-three finishes in 11 tournaments.

Petroleum Ministry Pens Tribute To Buhari’s Legacy In Oil Sector

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources has described former President Muhammadu Buhari as a foundational figure in the country’s oil and gas industry whose legacy continues to shape the sector.

Following his death at a clinic in London on Sunday, the official condolence message issued in Abuja on Monday, the Ministry expressed deep sorrow over the death of Buhari.

Signed by Christopher Ugwuegbulam, Head of Press and Public Relations Unit, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, the ministry recalled Buhari’s unique history with the petroleum sector, dating back nearly five decades.

Buhari first served as Federal Commissioner (now Minister) for Petroleum and Natural Resources from 1976 to 1978 under then-Head of State Olusegun Obasanjo.

He was also the pioneer Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), now NNPC Limited.

The statement noted that “his commitment to clean, accountable governance in the petroleum industry remains a guiding light,” adding that the infrastructure and institutions built under his leadership laid the groundwork for modern reforms.

As President from 2015 to 2023, Buhari once again held the petroleum portfolio, leading the charge for reforms that culminated in the signing of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), a law long sought to improve transparency and efficiency in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

“From foundational infrastructure to bold sectoral reforms, President Buhari’s legacy in the oil and gas sector is far-reaching,” the statement read.
