‘I was attacked at Oasis’ Heaton Park show over a beer – and missed the entire concert’

A man has recalled being assaulted while attending one of Oasis’ homecoming concerts at Heaton Park last week, resulting in him missing the entire show due to the ordeal

A man was assaulted after allegedly “spilling someone’s pint” at an Oasis gig at Heaton Park. Martin Brierley was forced to miss the whole show after spending £300 and later spent the night in A&E.

Emma Brierley, 32, attended the concert last Saturday night (July 12) with her husband, Martin, 50, and a mate. After entering the cordoned-off area, the couple queued for the loos and planned to grab a drink from the bar before settling in to enjoy the gig they’d been eagerly anticipating for months.

Shortly afterwards, Martin decided to head to the bar to fetch a round of drinks while Emma returned to their spot in the park ahead of the concert. It wasn’t until Liam and Noel Gallagher hit the stage and Emma noticed Martin hadn’t come back that she began to worry he might have lost his way – until she received a call from a security staff member asking her to make her way to the medical tent near one of the entrance gates.

“I tried ringing him a few times, but there was no signal at all,” Emma, who works for the Mirror’s sister title, the Manchester Evening News, said. “I thought he’d have just gotten lost somewhere in the park on the way back from the bar.

“Oasis were already playing now and I was saying to our friend how gutted Martin would be to have not made it back from the bar yet. We were just thinking he was struggling to find us at this point.

“We were on the top of the hill, quite far back from all the crowds. We weren’t bothered about how close we could get and didn’t want to get crushed because it was very busy.

“At 8.23pm I received a call from ‘Martin’, but it was actually a member of security staff using his phone and telling me to go to Gate 20. There was no mention of what had happened, so I told my friend to wait with my bag, still presuming he had just got lost on the way back.”

As Emma approached the gate, she spotted Martin on the ground, bleeding and hurt. She immediately recognised him from his trainers and “rushed to him” as he was surrounded by security officers.

“He was conscious when I got there, but looked a mess, and his shirt was soaked with blood,” she said. “They were telling me they were taking him to the [medical] tent for treatment.

“I asked a member of security to help me try and find our friend to come with us. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find our friend, so I headed back with security. When I returned, we then went through sealed fence and to a gazebo with police and paramedics.”

Martin’s recollection of what occurred is hazy. He recalled accidentally toppling over a group’s beers, which were placed on the ground, as he walked back from the bar whilst watching the large screens.

Recalling the incident, Martin explained: “I was bringing the drinks back from the bar, and there was a group with their drinks on the ground. I didn’t realise and obviously walked right through this bloke’s beers. I told him they shouldn’t have been on the floor because it’s a field.”

He continued: “I turned around to walk off, and I’ve got this flashback of a hand coming across my face. The next memory I have is of a member of security trying to pull me up by my right arm, and blood being everywhere. I am not sure if I passed out or not. Then the next thing I knew, I was in the medical tent.

“They definitely went for me more than once. I had injuries to my head, two black eyes and injuries to my jaw and lip.” The Oldham couple reported that they were only asked for basic details by police officers who arrived about 10 minutes post-assault. Martin was stretchered into the medical tent where his head wound was glued and bandaged to stem the bleeding.

Emma said that after roughly half an hour, they were informed they could go back to the concert, but they ‘just wanted to get out and get home’ after what happened. Describing their departure, Emma said: “I asked where we were going as we didn’t have a clue where we were and was told to head out of the tent and just keep walking and that the stage was on our right.”

“At this point, Martin had no shirt because of how blood-soaked it was, but we couldn’t find anywhere to purchase one or offered anything. I was concerned that we had just been let out with the injuries Martin had sustained, but at this point, we just wanted to get out of the concert, get home, and get Martin to A&E near us just to be checked out properly.

“After missing nearly all of Oasis because of what happened, the day had been ruined for us. I was feeling very anxious around everything and just wanted to get Martin closer to home, into appropriate clothing and to A&E.”

The couple later found their friend, who had been able to enjoy the entirety of the concert, and they left Heaton Park. On the way out, Emma claimed she asked a police officer how to make a complaint because they ‘hadn’t been given a crime reference number’ or had chance to explain what had happened to any officers at the scene.

Martin spent eight hours at Royal Oldham Hospital overnight, including having CT scans. His injuries were not deemed serious and he was discharged at around 10am on Sunday.

Emma later made a complaint to Greater Manchester Police about their treatment at the concert, claiming that the couple have still not been visited by an officer. “Martin and I had never seen Oasis before so we were so excited,” Emma added. “I had managed to get a ballot number last year and sat for hours to get these tickets.”

The couple had everything set for a perfect day out, with the kids looked after by grandma and the sun shining, but their concert experience turned sour. “We sorted the kids being babysat by my mum, it was a sunny day and we were really looking forward to it. It was all so disappointing. You don’t think you’re going to go out to a concert and this is going to happen to you.”

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they are probing an incident at the Oasis gig in Heaton Park on Saturday night. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers are investigating after we received a report of an assault at the Oasis concert at Heaton Park on Saturday evening.”

They added that the victim was treated for injuries which were thankfully not severe. “The man received injuries for which he was treated for, and thankfully which weren’t serious. We will be visiting the man in due course to provide further updates, with an investigation underway.”

Who is England’s rising star Agyemang?

Michelle Agyemang had been on the pitch for just 41 seconds on her England debut in April when she thundered the ball into the top corner against Belgium.

A terrific first touch and even better finish highlighted her special talent that day.

As a 70th-minute substitute in England’s Euro 2025 quarter-final against Sweden on Thursday, the teenage striker slotted her second international goal to keep the Lionesses’ trophy defence alive.

Manager Sarina Wiegman had predicted the 19-year-old would “bring something different”, when naming her in the Euros squad.

Fans are getting a taste of just what that looks like as England head for a semi-final against Italy, having scraped through a penalty shootout.

Joining Arsenal at the age of six

Agyemang is a lifelong Arsenal fan and joined the club’s academy at the age of six, after her father, a grassroots football coach, secured her a trial.

She initially played as a defender but developed into a forward.

Agyemang played through the age categories and moved into the first-team set-up, making her debut in 2022 aged 16.

Former Arsenal and Scotland defender Jen Beattie told the Women’s Football Weekly podcast Agyemang has become a natural goalscorer.

“She is unreal,” said Beattie.

“She was an academy player when I was at Arsenal and she used to come up to training and was sometimes involved in match squads.”

Beattie said that Arsenal’s players quickly saw the type of finishing quality Agyemang showed against Belgium.

“I kid you not – she would do that in training,” Beattie said. “She is an incredible box player, an unbelievable finisher. She doesn’t need more than one or two touches, exactly what you saw against Belgium.”

After a handful of first-team appearances, Agyemang was loaned to Women’s Championship side Watford for the 2023-24 season.

Agyemang scored five goals in 10 appearances at Watford, and Arsenal rewarded her with a first professional contract.

Lionesses journey

Agyemang’s rise through the England ranks has reflected her growth at club level.

She has made 25 age-group appearances for the national team – from the under-16s to the under-23s.

In just a few days in April, she went from scoring for the under-19s in their win against Austria to producing a stunning cameo for the senior side, which led to her Euros call-up.

The initial England seniors chance may not have come along had it not been for a minor injury suffered by Arsenal team-mate Alessia Russo.

Agyemang told BBC Sport in April that she had experienced “a crazy 10 days”.

“Coming with the under-19s, playing in the Euros round two, coming over here for the seniors, it has been a really good experience and I’m really grateful for the opportunity,” she said.

“Both the team and the coaches, everyone has been really welcoming. I’ve felt the love from everyone and you can see it from the performance on the pitch I felt like myself and confident.

‘Take her to the Euros’ – what did others say?

Wiegman was full of praise for Agyemang after her goalscoring debut off the bench.

“That goal was just incredible. The composure, the first touch and the second touch. For her, it was really nice that she comes on and within a minute she has the moment,” she said.

England captain Leah Williamson said: “I think the first training session at Arsenal she hit me hard enough to remember her name. I’m delighted for her.”

Beattie added: “She has made a name for herself now. There is no better intro to a senior squad than that in an international debut.”

Ellen White – the Lionesses’ record goalscorer – described Agyemang as “a phenomenal talent”.

“Take her to the Euros,” White said in April. “There is some excitement, something different and something fresh.”

From ball girl to England hero – who is rising star Agyemang?

Many casual football fans would have known Michelle Agyemang before Euro 2025.

However, the 19-year-old is really popular at the Swiss championship.

After coming off the bench in the Lionesses’ quarter-final against Sweden on Thursday, the Arsenal forward scored a crucial equalizer to keep their trophy defense alive. She was a ball girl in Sarina Wiegman’s first game as England manager.

When Wiegman made the striker a part of the tournament squad, she anticipated that she would “bring something different.”

That is exactly what she accomplished. No one on the team had more touches in the opposition box than Agyemang’s five in the four-minute cameo against France, which almost gave England an unlikely lead.

Steph Houghton, the ex-england captain, claimed Agyemang “broughs a different dimension” to the conflict with Sweden.

She aggressively attacked defenders and received a yellow card, but she continued to be aggressive and put her teammates under pressure.

Agyemang’s impact, though, comes as no surprise given that she only had 41 seconds to score on her England debut against Belgium in the top corner.

Agyemang has a lifelong Arsenal fan base and joined the academy when she was six when her father, a pro-football coach, gave her a trial.

She first started out as a defender before becoming a forward.

Agyemang made her debut in 2022 at the age of 16 after playing in the various age groups and transitioning to the first-team setup.

Jen Beattie, a former defender for Arsenal and Scotland, claimed Agyemang has developed into a natural goalscorer.

Beattie remarked, “She is unreal.” She used to train during my Arsenal days and occasionally joined match squads. She was an academy player.

Beattie claimed that Arsenal’s players immediately recognized Agyemang’s level of finishing ability against Belgium.

She would do that in training, Beattie said, “I kid you not.” She has an incredible finish and boxing prowess. You saw against Belgium, and she doesn’t need more than one or two touches.

Agyemang was later signed by Women’s Championship side Watford on a temporary basis for the 2023-2014 season after making a few first-team appearances.

At Watford, Agyemang scored five goals in her first professional season, earning her a first contract with Arsenal.

Journey of lionesses

Agyemang’s advancement in England has been reflected in her development.

She has appeared for the national team in 25 different age groups, starting with the under-16s and the under-23s.

In a few days, she changed her Euros call-up from scoring for the under-19s in their victory over Austria to producing a stunning cameo for the senior side.

Without Alessia Russo’s minor injury, the initial England seniors chance might not have existed.

Agyemang claimed to have had “a crazy 10 days” when she told BBC Sport in April.

“Coming with the under-19s, playing in the Euros round two, and coming over here for the seniors,” she said.

Everyone has been very welcoming, both the team and the coaches said. You can tell from the performance on the pitch how passionate I was about myself and how confident I was.

What did other people think of the phrase “She brings something different”?

After making her debut against Belgium off the bench, Wiegman was praised for Agyemang.

That was an incredible goal. The first and second touches, as well as the composure. She said, “It was really nice that she came on, and within a minute she had the moment.

That praise has continued.

When Wiegman was questioned about her braveness in introducing Agyemang against Sweden, she responded, “This is basically why we chose her.”

“We know she hasn’t been in our environment for a while, but the first time she arrived, she did really well and she does something new,” she said.

She demonstrated that against France and Belgium during training. She scores a goal as a result of her strength. She has demonstrated that she can accomplish that.

Leah Williamson, England’s captain, recently said, “I remember when she played because she flattened me during training. On the ball, I was too slowly.

She reportedly complained to me, but I later realized I needed to move the ball more quickly because she has a certain personality.

She let me know she was there, which I love, at first.

She just runs into people and bodies them because she’s so strong, according to Chelsea defender Lucy Bronze, England right-back.

She is “one of my favorites to play against because I can run into her dead hard,” she said. She is so sweet and unassuming as a person.

She enjoys returning it, she says. She has been told by Wiegman that she needs to move a little easier, but I told her, “No, just keep it up, Micha; I prefer it because it makes it harder for us.” “

Hollywood stars’ ‘phenomenal chemistry’ in action film saw them get together for real

Two of Hollywood’s biggest names met and fell in love on the set of a hit blockbuster movie, with their on-screen chemistry being so intense that they went on to start a family

The duo starred in an action film together(Image: The famous pair married in 2014)

In a story befitting of Tinseltown’s finest romances, this star-studded pair crossed paths on the set of their blockbuster hit and later exchanged scripts for sweet nothings.

Their sizzling on-screen dynamic didn’t just stop when the director yelled “cut”, as they soon became an item and welcomed children into their glittering world.

Mr & Mrs Smith was the cinematic sensation that paired up big screen giants Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, propelling them to ‘power couple’ stardom. The movie wasn’t only a box office triumph – it also played cupid for its leading stars who later joined in real life romance. During the shoot, Brad Pitt was famously still an item with Friends star Jennifer Aniston, yet his rapport with Jolie simply couldn’t be ignored. With time, both actors confessed to falling head over heels while on set.

A Rotten Tomatoes critique said the spark between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt was “without a doubt undeniable”. Echoing this sentiment, a filmgoer commented: “The storyline isn’t much to write home about, and the comedy isn’t necessarily laugh-out-loud funny, but the action is sleek and stylish, and the chemistry between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is absolutely phenomenal.”

Their roles as a seemingly ordinary yet affluent married duo, each hiding their true identity of ace assassins from rival organisations, captivated audiences. Tasked to assassinate one another, the dramatic unveiling leads them to a crossroads between their devotion and duty, reports the Express.

Despite the flick facing its fair share of scrutiny, it’s gained notoriety for reasons beyond the screen. A viewer commented: “Part of cinema history because of the leading actor’s subsequent marriage, but the film is only sporadically entertaining. It loses its way towards the end when the sometimes clever sexual tension gives way to standard action scenes that drain the premise from the plot.” Echoing this sentiment, another critique mentioned overlooked “plot holes” in the movie.

The on-screen chemistry between Pitt and Jolie kindled off-screen gossip, and soon after, Pitt’s five-year marriage to Aniston dissolved. Subsequently, the new couple were holidaying together and confirmed their romance in a magazine feature. Not long after, Jolie was expecting with Pitt, three months following his finalised divorce. Their partnership thrived, welcoming and adopting children, culminating in a 2014 marriage.

West Ham have agreed personal terms with Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer following the full-back’s exit from Southampton.

The 28-year-old England international left the Saints, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, after the expiry of his contract at St Mary’s.

He was on the verge of joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Besiktas but the Turkish club said they were walking away from the transfer on Thursday after the defender delayed his medical following interest from the Hammers.

Walker-Peters, who has two England caps, made 202 appearances for Southampton and scored six goals during his time there.

After initially joining on loan from Tottenham, he signed a permanent contract in 2020.

He played 43 league games in 2023-24 as the Saints were promoted to the Premier League, and 35 during the 2024-25 season, providing two top-flight assists.
