Building a female empire with Jake Paul, Netflix & Taylor-Serrano

Former undisputed super-middleweight champion Savannah Marshall had not fought for two years, and Chantelle Cameron was unsure whether a new promotional deal with Queensberry would actually deliver the Katie Taylor trilogy.

There appeared little room for the best in the women’s code when three of Britain’s top talents were at a crossroads in their careers and Saudi Arabia took big-time boxing to the desert.

Many of the best all-British fights were stacked undercards in Saudi Arabia, which also put pressure on the UK boxing scene.

With the exception of a few standout events like Lauren Price’s welterweight showdown with British rival Natasha Jonas in March, the women’s code continued to grow.

After years of constant improvement, Cameron claims that “everyone had given up on women’s boxing.”

All three women shook hands with Jake Paul, a man who they were considering their futures.

The first Catford’s Scotney messaged the American YouTuber-turned-boxer on Instagram was sent to Catford’s Scotney.

The 27-year-old is a member of the podcast 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce, and she says, “I just thought, “A shy kid gets no sweets and I was a fat kid.”

“Within three hours, I hung up Jake.”

Before Ramla Ali and fellow super-bantamweight Scotney were announced, alycia Baumgardner, the undisputed super-weight champion, was the first unexpected signing for the Jake Paul co-founded Most Valuable Promotions (MVP). Cameron was courted by MVP once, but not this time.

In the weeks that followed, the company began looking for more stars, including world champions Cherneka Johnson and Dina Thorslund as well as Marshall, Cameron, Holly Holm, and other stars.

The fights must be resurrected, according to the statement.

Soon after signing, Scotney was traveling for the first time to meet the MVP team in person while sipping filtered water in a luxurious vehicle. She had assumed that the airport would require a taxi reservation.

She spent the day playing for the New York Knicks with Irish legend Taylor while the next she was practicing pads with Amanda Serrano during an exclusive press conference for Taylor v. Serrano 3.

Money and exposure were key factors in enticering fighters to join MVP. Last November, Taylor and Serrano reportedly made more than £4 million each in their light-welterweight rematch, with an estimated 50m people watching the match.

Nakisa is very transparent, which is unusual from a promoter, says Scotney.

Ellie, “Not all of them are like this,” he said.

For Bidarian, the pitch was straightforward: look at what Puerto Rican Serrano did when he went from being only a few thousand dollars per fight to becoming a millionaire in a single night.

He claims that when something is hot, we put our weight behind it. We’re not fair-weather friends.

They want people to participate in big fights, says Scotney. Give you the opportunity to fight for your money.

Cameron of Northampton believes that women’s boxing has been lagging in the UK for the past year.

“Fights weren’t occurring,” he declared. The 34-year-old, who previously signed to powerhouse promoters Matchroom and Queensberry, says, “Jake Paul’s come along and signed up all the top girls and the fights are there to be made again.”

Bidarian claims that MVP’s ultimate goal is to combine boxing’s fastest-growing industry with one promotional hub.

ambitious pipeline plans include Taylor v. Cameron 3, Shields v. Marshall 2 &

Bidarian has been incredibly helpful in Paul’s own career.

The 28-year-old’s ascent has been carefully managed, not more so than his most recent victory over former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who is rapidly declining.

No project or venue is too big for them, despite MVP’s astute matchmaking. However, Serrano and Taylor continue to demonstrate that rivalry is what makes them strong.

For the new signings of MVP, there are many options. Some of them, like Scotney v. Johnson 2, or Serrano v. Baumgardner, will have their own volition. Others will be put to the test of their abilities.

Each woman pursues without joy in an effort to retaliate against her former foes, such as Taylor and Claressa Shields.

Hartlepool’s Marshall says, “I want Shields, that’s no secret.

“Absolutely the winner of [Green] should fight Claressa next,” argues Bidarian. Claressa and I have confidence that we can create that type of event.

He also acknowledges that Serrano’s chances of remaining in the light-welterweight division would be slim if she defeated Taylor and won the titles that Cameron and the 39-year-old Irishwoman won.

If Taylor wins, Bidarian says, “We will work with her to make the trilogy with Cameron and try to make it happen at Croke Park.”

The MVP faces a challenge. Marshall has repeatedly ruled out a rematch, and Shields is now a heavyweight champion. With Cameron posing as one of her most physically demanding contests, Taylor might even retire this year.

However, two years after their first encounter, MVP brilliantly rekindled Taylor’s Serrano rivalry and delivered a significant benefit for her.

Where would these British women’s fights be staged, which is a big question?

According to Bidarian, “the UK is unwaveringly the best boxing market in the world,” pound for pound.

Russia probes ex-minister’s death as body found hours after sacking

Russia’s top criminal investigation agency is probing the death of Roman Starovoit, a former transport minister whose body was found with a gunshot wound near his car, hours after President Vladimir Putin dismissed him from his post.

Authorities on Monday said the 53-year-old politician’s body was discovered near a Tesla vehicle abandoned near a park in the Moscow region, with a pistol, registered in Starovoit’s name, located nearby.

The Investigative Committee has opened a case to determine the full circumstances of his death, suggesting it could be suicide. Russian media, citing law enforcement sources, said the gunshot appeared to be self-inflicted.

However, the timing of the death has prompted speculation.

Putin issued a decree earlier on Monday, removing Starovoit as transport minister, a role he had held for just more than a year. No explanation was provided.

Political commentators quickly linked the decision to a long-running corruption investigation in the Kursk region, where Starovoit previously served as governor.

The probe centres on whether 19.4 billion roubles ($246m) allocated in 2022 to bolster border defences in Kursk were embezzled.

The funds were meant to reinforce Russia’s frontier with Ukraine, but Ukrainian forces launched a cross-border assault into the region three months into Starovoit’s ministerial term – the largest such incursion since World War II.

In April, his successor and former deputy in Kursk, Alexei Smirnov, was charged with embezzling defence funds. Several Russian outlets reported on Monday that Smirnov, who denies wrongdoing, had told investigators Starovoit was also involved in the alleged fraud.

The incident casts a shadow over Russia’s transport sector, already grappling with wartime pressures.

Western sanctions have left the aviation industry struggling for spare parts, while soaring interest rates have pushed Russian Railways – the country’s largest employer – into financial strain.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s drone attacks continue to disrupt domestic air traffic, forcing temporary airport closures and leading to logistical uncertainty.

Following Starovoit’s dismissal, the Kremlin announced that Andrei Nikitin, former governor of the Novgorod region, had been appointed as acting transport minister. Photographs released by state media showed him shaking hands with Putin.

Newcastle agree £55m fee for Forest winger Elanga

Newcastle United have agreed a £55m fee with Nottingham Forest for Sweden winger Anthony Elanga.

Sources have told BBC Sport the deal could be completed this week.

Newcastle are seeking to strengthen their attacking options as they prepare for their return to the Champions League following a fifth-placed Premier League finish last season.

The 23-year-old scored six goals and produced 11 assists for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side during their successful 2024-25 Premier League season.

Newcastle have yet to pay a fee for a player this summer, with 18-year-old Spanish winger Antonio Cordero the only new arrival on a free transfer from Malaga.

Forest are believed to have paid £15m to sign Elanga from Manchester United on a five-year-deal in 2023.

Why is Elanga in demand?

Newcastle’s pursuit of Elanga underlines just how far his stock has risen after a stellar campaign with Forest.

His statistical profile paints the picture of a player not just improving, but excelling in some of the most important attacking metrics.

The radar chart below, provided by Opta via FBref, shows Elanga ranking in the top percentiles among Premier League attacking midfielders and wingers across multiple categories.

Being in the 80th percentile for goal-creating actions means he outperforms 80% of similar players in that key attacking measure.

Elanga’s crossing ability sits near the top of the scale, a vital asset for any team relying on width and delivery.

For comparison, none of Newcastle’s wingers – Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes or Anthony Gordon – averages more than 4.85 crosses per 90 minutes, while Elanga averages 6.65.

His progressive carries – how frequently he moves the ball towards goal – highlight his directness and willingness to take on defenders, which added dynamism to Forest’s attack.

Even his goals-per-shot ratio reflects a sharpness in front of goal that is rare among wingers.

For Newcastle, these numbers represent everything they need: pace, efficiency, and creativity in the final third.

Kris Jenner, 69, shows off another wildly different look after ‘£73,000 facelift’

The matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner family, Kris Jenner, showed off her new look in France’s capital as she enjoyed a date with longterm boyfriend Corey Gamble

Kris Jenner stepped out in Paris on Monday sporting a brand new style. The Kardashian-Jenner family matriarch, 69, has opted to switch up her look, shifting away from her usual pixie cut.

Kris was in the French capital with her boyfriend Corey Gamble when she showed off her longer fringed bob look. Giving 70s vibes, the new style complemented the reality star’s new facelift.

Wearing a fitted long-sleeved black dress with a statement collar, Kris held on to a small black Hermès handbag for her trip out. She paired the looked with open-toed black heels, while her man also opted for a black outfit of his own.

#The outing comes after she publicly thanked her surgeon a decade after having a facelift. She followed daughter Kylie Jenner in admitting her surgery. While Kylie has opened up about her boob job op in 2018, mum Kris quickly thanked the surgeon for his work on her too.

Following Kylie’s endorsement on Instagram, Dr Garth Fisher thanked the star. He wrote: “I’m honoured to be acknowledged by Kylie—her kind words were unexpected but truly appreciated.

“Patient confidentiality has always been the foundation of my practice. Over 3 decades, we’ve never had a single breach. My entire team is thoroughly trained and bound by strict NDAs and confidentiality agreements. This is more than policy—it’s our culture.”

He went on to reference HIPAA (patient privacy) laws and why he will never discuss a client’s procedures without their permission, adding: “Every patient is unique. This isn’t ‘cookbook’ surgery—it’s thoughtful, personalised care.”

And in the comments section to his message of thanks, Kris also said: “”Garth you are such a superstar class act. You did my first facelift in 2011… 14 years ago!!! and made it the most amazing experience ever and even gave us access to film so that others could get a peek inside what it’s like and not be afraid…

“You have taken great care of us always and remain such a close and treasured friend!! Such an incredible talent!!”

And the latest of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star’s procedures is said to have been “riskier” than others. The momager’s rep had confirmed to Page Six that she underwent aesthetic enhancements from a plastic surgeon, Dr. Steven Levine, before her 70th birthday.

While it wasn’t confirmed exactly what procedures she underwent, some have claimed she underwent a deep place facelift. Others, though, think it could be a regular SMAS procedure. Dr Norman Rowe recently explained the differences between the two procedures, saying how they can range from five to six figure sums to complete.

Speaking about the risks, he said to The Sun: “I think, honestly, still, the majority of people out there doing facelifts are probably doing SMAS. It’s still kind of like the go-to technique.

“It ultimately depends on the surgeon’s comfort in doing that deep plane to that point. I’ll be honest, it is a little bit more risky than, say, a SMAS.”

Article continues below

He added to the publication: “The only way to know [what Kris had done] is to look at her five or 10 years from now. If she still looks good, it’s probably a deep plane … if she starts to show little signs of aging. Probably wasn’t.”
