Bezzecchi wins British MotoGP at Silverstone

Aprilia won their first race of the season thanks to Italian Marco Bezzecchi’s triumph at a turbulent British Grand Prix.

The chaotic Silverstone showpiece on Sunday was flagged for spilling oil, and several riders also crashed or resigned from positions of authority.

Aprilia won the first time since the Grand Prix of the Americas last year, with Bezzecchi taking the title. Johann Zarco of LCR Honda placed second, while Marc Marquez of Ducati placed third, extending his lead over Franco Morbidelli.

Bezzecchi is the 11th individual Silverstone champion in the last 11 races, winning for the first time since the 2023 Indian Grand Prix.

It’s incredible, I thought. He said, “It has been a really difficult time for me this past month.” Aprilia and I worked really well together.

The team did a fantastic job, they said. Since my last victory, I had been anticipating a day like this.

Alex Marquez, who defeated brother Marc’s sprint dominance on Saturday, maintained his form at the Grand Prix to pass Quartararo but lost control at the first turn.

After Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaro collided, Marc also crashed out of the lead before the final sector for the oil spill.

Francesco Bagnaia also later lost the race, so Quartararo took the lead when the race resumed.

Could Aberdeen success mark mentality shift in Scottish football?

At Hampden Park on Saturday, I verbally abbreviated Aberdeen. Everyone succeeded. However, this was the underdog’s year in history.

The squad believed they would win the Scottish Cup, despite no one else’s sincere assurances that it would happen, which is the cleaver of success.

Despite their previous, and even recent, results against Celtic, which were 5-1, 5-1, 1-0, and 6-0 in their previous four meetings, listening to the Pittodrie players after the game revealed that confidence.

This victory was a statement, and it truly represents a historic day for Scottish football as well as Aberdeen itself.

It’s a significant moment for Scottish football, according to the player.

Aberdeen actually had two days to execute their gameplan, which was completely contrary to their custom.

What came next was a fantastic performance with a strong defensive performance at the heart of it. Particularly against this Celtic side, that’s a challenging task.

They did so comfortably, despite my best efforts, that I didn’t anticipate them to give Celtic so few chances.

There wasn’t much to worry about from an Aberdeen perspective, aside from Daizen Maeda’s one-v-one in stoppage time.

After that first half, the belief that the players had expressed was likely a foundation. Celtic did, in fact, possess a lot of it, but they weren’t breaking through. Without the ball, the Dons were excellent.

When Oday Dabbagh, Dante Polvara, and Shayden Morris were replaced by three different people, Aberdeen were able to go quite bravely due to such foundations.

I’ve been a fan of Morris’ since he was a player at Fleetwood Town. His speed poses a threat, and Celtic handled him improperly in the lead-up to the equalizer.

Thelin made a wise decision by requesting that he play a midfield position without the ball and then play a wing position with the ball.

Something different was done by the Swede, and it paid off.

The rest of Scottish football should also be interested in it. Possibly even further down the line, where the underdog story has been compelling this season.

I’m from Aberdeen, but I’m from Celtic, so I couldn’t watch those trophy-winning moments with joy.

The Dons demonstrated that Celtic can be stopped with discipline and tenacity.

And if they already believed, they will now believe even more.

Following the game, chairman Dave Cormack discussed the finances, the earnings coming from this victory, and the confirmation of European group-stage football.

That is enormous in and of itself. It will strengthen the faith of both the club and the supporters as well as the players.

However, it’s bedlam right now. They are all about celebrating and partying, which they are expected to do.

Here, they have preserved a piece of history. And perhaps this is just the beginning…

Beaten Taylor won’t make ‘hasty decision’ on future

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

After being humiliated by Ekow Essuman, Josh Taylor says he needs to take some time to decide whether or not to fight.

After a strong first half of the fight in Glasgow, the former undisputed world champion faded and all three judges gave Essuman the win on the scorecards.

The 34-year-old’s first welterweight appearance was bitterly disappointing, with many believing that he is now ready to end his career.

In an interview the morning after the fight, Taylor said, “I’m going to take a little time to just think about what’s coming.”

“I’ll just sit back and take a few weeks to unwind,” he said. I’ll hang them up if I really believe I’m not doing anything.

After the judges’ decision was announced at the Hydro, Taylor abruptly walked out of the ring, skipping to do post-fight interviews.

Taylor simply stated, “I just want to congratulate Ekow on a good performance, doing a good job, and getting the win.” In the ring, I congratulated him.

“I just completely ruined myself, which is why I jumped out of the ring.” My emotions were everywhere. I regret saying something in an interview that I didn’t want to do.

I should have taken the time and opportunity to thank everyone who showed up and continued to support me.

“The people in the arena lifted the roof over the place,” said one witness. The atmosphere was once more unbelievable.

Taylor claims that his recent struggles have resulted in his devastation and that inactivity, which he hasn’t fought for more than once in a calendar year since 2019, has contributed to his devastation.

He said, “I need to get more active and go outside at least a couple of times a year, if I’m going to keep going.”

Taylor: Does it take too long to hold on? – analysis

At the end, Taylor’s bloody and brusqué face told a different story about a fighter who has been taking too many shots for too long.

The Tartan Tornado’s decision to hang up the gloves has been a hot topic for some time, and this defeat strengthens the case.

Few boxers are able to negotiate their own terms and execute their perfect exit. There are hundreds of others who waited too long in search of that final moment of glory, just like Joe Calzaghe and Lennox Lewis.

Stick To 30-Day Refinery Repair Or Risk Fuel Crisis, PETROAN Tells NNPCL

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is being advised by the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PREOAN) to strictly adhere to the 30-day repair schedule for the recently shut down old Port Harcourt Refinery.

PETROAN, who raises questions about the potential effects of delays, says the rehabilitation must not go beyond the agreed length if the country wants to prevent worsening supply disruptions and economic hardship.

While the maintenance shutdown was anticipated, PETROAN National President, Billy Gillis-Harry, stated in a statement on behalf of the organization because the organization fears that Nigeria’s long-standing infrastructure bottlenecks could prevent this.

The refinery needs repairs, but we are urging NNPCL to make sure the 30-day window is not just another announcement without any real action. He claimed that delays could cause more suffering for Nigerians.

The inclusion of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) blending unit in the ongoing maintenance is one of PETROAN’s top demands. Without it, the entire crude cracking process might not be as effective as increasing the price of gasoline.

The organization also calls on the government to actively monitor the process. It recommends the formation of a task force led by Petroleum Industry Stakeholders Forum members to oversee repair projects.

PETROAN also requests weekly updates on the progress of the repair, as well as urging that contractors’ payments be made on time to avoid delays.

According to Dr. Joseph Obele, PETROAN’s National Public Relations Officer, “the inclusion of all relevant stakeholders in a monitoring task force and timely communication with Nigerians will ensure accountability.”

The group warned that delays in finishing the repairs could lead to market monopolization, limited supply, and cost increases, which would have a direct impact on consumers and the already constrained economy.

Another Slam, another big name – GB’s Fearnley faces Wawrinka on French Open day two

French Open 2025

Location: Roland Garros, May 25 – June

When Stan Wawrinka made his French Open debut in 2005, Jacob Fearnley, a British national, was one month away from his fourth birthday.

Twenty years later, Fearnley will face the 40-year-old former champion in a Roland Garross match.

World No. 55 Fearnley has the potential and youthful vigor to defeat 2015 champion Wawrinka despite the gap in his clay-related experience.

The Swiss veteran, who has dropped to 138th in the rankings, won the second major of the year on a wildcard and has only won two matches in Paris since 2020.

When your opponents have won a lot on such big stages and been successful for so long, “I think you have to give them a certain amount of respect,” Fearnley said.

“But I believe the difficulty is perhaps not treating them with too much respect, so that you enter the match feeling defeated.

Wawrinka has obviously accomplished incredible things, but I must keep in mind that I’m both here to win and to play a match.

“I will always approach each situation with respect and a sense of triumph.”

On court 14, Fearnley and Wawrinka play for about 14:00 BST, with three more Britons playing on the following day.

Emma Raducanu plays Wang Xinyu from China at 10:00 BST, where Jodie Burrage and Danielle Collins square off immediately after Jodie Burrage and Danielle Collins. This is her first French Open match since 2022.

I still feel starstruck.

Fearnley is starting to draw attention-grabbing shots at famous faces all the time.

The 23-year-old Scot rose to the occasion when he made his Grand Slam debut last year against Novak Djokovic on Wimbledon’s Centre Court, but a gloomy atmosphere prevented him from defeating Nick Kyrgios in the Australian Open first round in January.

On his final performance in Rome, he played veteran Italian actor Fabio Fognini, who like Kyrgios, a firebrand who rouses partisan fervor, in a more recent role.

Fearnley told BBC Sport, “I joked about it with my team because I knew Richard Gasquet would play in his final French Open.”

Wawrinka is about to end their careers but still has excellent tennis playing.

French Open day two highlights including Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek in action

Prior to last month, Fearnley hadn’t even played an ATP clay-court match.

He was unranked in the professional tennis game at the time last year, but he is still a member of the “brutal” United States college tennis system, where he developed his aggressive game.

He climbed into the professional ranks after earning his kinesiology degree at Texas Christian University, leading to one of the fastest rises in ATP Tour history.

Fearnley has climbed to the top 50, tying Cameron Norrie for the title of the British men’s number two, as he did with Cameron Norrie.

Fearnley remarked, “We had just won our first national championships at TCU a year ago.”

It’s pretty amazing to see the progression and then play the main draw at the French Open a year later.

“I’m very pleased with the progress, but I still have to believe it.”

Still a ” pinch-me ” moment when you have to face-to-face with the superstars in the locker room.

“I still feel star-gazed.” Fearnley continued, “Like in Rome, Jannik] Sinner approached and shaked my hand.
