I had to check Ballon d’Or list was legit – Scotland’s Weir

SNS

“When I first saw it, I wasn’t sure if it was legitimate because I wasn’t expecting it.”

It was understandable that Caroline Weir was surprised to have her name on the 2025 Ballon d’Or shortlist given that her summer was spent watching the European Championship on television rather than starring in Switzerland.

The 30-year-old checked to make sure the list was accurate after missing out on her third major tournament in a row with Scotland.

However, Real Madrid’s self-proclaimed “comeback season,” which included her 11 months without a serious knee injury, was strong enough to place her among the 30 women competing for the honor.

The midfielder is the first female Scot to be nominated for the award, whose winner will be announced in Paris on Monday. This is also a historic moment.

Despite her status as one of Europe’s leading players, Weir is known for her modesty, and she is adjusting her expectations for the evening performance at the Theatre du Chatelet.

She does acknowledge that she is “soak it all in” in the magnificent surroundings and is excited to be rubbing shoulders with legends of the game.

Weir, who “genuinely cannot believe” her nomination, told BBC Scotland, “It’s pretty cool to be included in that kind of company.”

From doubt to success, in particular

Weir deserves to enjoy dressing up and quietly partying in Paris given the suffering she underwent in order to return to her peak.

In a Nations League draw with Belgium at Hampden Park on Monday, she ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament just days shy of the two-year anniversary of the incident.

The then-28-year-old, who had just posted phenomenal numbers in her first season in Spain, suffered a devastating blow.

Weir acknowledges that she may have had a stronger Ballon d’Or case a few years ago because she has 28 goals in all competitions since leaving Manchester City.

The record-scorer for the Galacticas said, “I believe statistically you would probably think a nomination like this might come after my first season at Madrid, when my stats were the best they’ve been.”

“I really didn’t put too much pressure on it last season, which is why I think this nomination is more special for me,” I said.

You don’t set out and aim for these kinds of things, especially if you’re recovering from a serious injury; it’s a lot of work and requires a lot of self-assurance.

“I want to watch the World Cup a lot,” he declared.

Weir is aware that Kim Little, the champion of the Champions League, and Erin Cuthbert, the champion of the eight-time women’s super league, have never been nominated for the award since it was established in 2018.

Given that she had no international stage to impress on, something she is desperate to change, her inclusion is particularly impressive.

Scotland missed the World Cup two years prior to that and the Euros were postponed in 2022 due to their absence from Euro 2025.

Sands have shifted, however, already in Melissa Andreatta’s early years of power, which Weir calls “a breath of fresh air.”

Stalwarts have abandoned their positions, allowing Weir and other top performers whose international ambitions are roiling ferociously in decline.

When Weir asked what she still had to accomplish, she replied, “The big one is another tournament with Scotland.”

“That is just really at the top of my mind,” I said. Watching teams like Switzerland and Finland there is never simpler.

No, guys, this time not! Weir to parents

Weir will wear her “Scottish hat on” and “an abundance of” intrigue to Monday’s elegant event.

Although she wants to take as many photos as possible as possible because Pisa will play in a Serie A match with fellow Scottish nominee Scott McTominay, it seems unlikely.

Weir hopes that she and the ex-Manchester United midfielder will inspire young Scots to reach a stage only dreams could reach.

She said, “It’s really cool for young children in Scotland to have two Scots represented.”

Hope that inspires a few children because I would have loved to have witnessed that growing up.

McTominay is the first Scot to appear on the list since Ally McCoist in 1987, which was eight years before Weir was born.

Mhairi and Lindsay, her parents, can recall that moment, but she can’t recall it.

The devoted duo, who, according to the player, “came across really well” in their daughter’s documentary “Galactica,” tried their arm at getting an invitation but were unsuccessful.

Weir continued, “They were really happy]at the nomination – they wanted to come. But I thought, “No guys, not this time!”

“I’ve been nominated, but there are a lot of great players there, so the chances are slim that I’ll be anywhere near the top of the list.”

South Africa recall De Kock as he ends retirement

Images courtesy of Getty

Quinton de Kock, a wicketkeeper, has been called back by South Africa for their ODIs and T20s against Pakistan starting next month and has since reversed his retirement for one-day internationals.

De Kock, 32, left the 50-over internationals after the 2023 World Cup in India and hasn’t played for the Proteas in any other style since the T20 World Cup’s final in June 2024.

De Kock, who ended his Test career in 2021, was not given a central contract last year despite not having officially retired from the T20s.

The decision comes inainte of the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in 2027 and the 50-over World Cup, which South Africa will co-host.

In addition, given the popularity of franchise leagues, it gives South Africa and international cricket a boost.

One of the best T20 batters in the world, Proteas batter Heinrich Klaasen, retired from international cricket in June.

Coach Shukri Conrad of South Africa, “Quinton’s return to the white ball space is a major boost for us.”

It was obvious that he still has a strong desire to represent his country when we spoke last month about his future.

Everyone is aware of his sideman’s qualities, and having him back can only help the team.

De Kock’s only previous professional cricket appearances this year were the SA20 in South Africa at the start of the year, followed by the Indian Premier League, Major League Cricket, and the Caribbean Premier League.

Since making his debut in January 2013, De Kock has been one of the best white-ball batters of the past ten years. Only Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have recorded more ODI centuries than De Kock.

At the T20 World Cup last year, he also had the best run record in South Africa.

Starting on October 12, South Africa will play three T20 matches, three ODIs, and two Tests in Pakistan.

Aiden Markram will take the place of injured captain Temba Bavuma, who has missed the first of their matches since winning the World Test Championship in June.

Following the tour, Donovan Ferreira will lead the one-day T20 against Namibia.

Aiden Markram (capt), David Bedingham, Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Zubayr Hamza, Simon Harmer, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj (second Test only), Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Prenelan Subrayen, Kyle Verreyne, and others in South Africa’s Pakistan

Abbey Clancy has revealed she “wanted to die” after an embarrassing encounter left her “heartbroken”. The 39-year-old model was heavily pregnant and caring for a newborn when she had an awkward interaction with another mum in a chemist.

On her podcast, The Therapy Crouch, which she hosts with her husband Peter Crouch, Abbey shared that the other woman was struggling with a baby who was “kicking off”. It was then that Abbey mistakenly thought the woman was also expecting another child.

She recalled that a woman at the pharmacy had a baby and what she thought was a pregnant tummy at the time of the terrible incident that occurred at nine months pregnant. I said to her, “God, you’re just as crazy as me.”

When the baby started to kick off, I said, “Oh God, we’ve got it all, haven’t we?” and I pleaded with her, “I’m not pregnant, this baby’s weight is this baby’s,” and she said, “I just wanted to die. I was like, “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.”

She went, “Don’t worry about it,” and I was heartbroken despite the fact that she had thought it was funny. Never, ever do that’s not good. “It’s not good.

Peter admitted that he never congratulates someone unless they specifically state that they are expecting. He continued, “I sincerely never say congratulations, even when I am aware that someone is clearly eight months pregnant.”

“I still don’t say it,” I said. I’d never consider… I simply wouldn’t mention it, and if someone says, “I’ve got a month to go,” you can go, “Congrats by the way.” You never know, so I’d never say “congratulations” ever.

Sons Johnny and Jack are also parents to their sons, Sophia and Liberty, and Abbey and Peter. After meeting at a bar back in 2006, the pair have been together for almost 20 years.

However, when Peter managed to wind up Abbey just after their initial encounter, their romance started to deteriorate.

Speaking about their first meeting during a Good Morning Britain appearance, Abbey revealed: “When we first met, he begged me for my number and then I went to the loo or the bar, and when I came back, he was talking to another girl. I was like, ‘How dare you?'”.

Abbey demanded her digits back despite Peter insisting that he was “just talking to the other woman.”

I once said, “You can’t give someone your number and then take it back,” he said.

The pair’s romance continued despite the initial hiccup, and they rekindled their union in 2011. The clan reportedly reside in a “magical” Surrey estate with its own cinema room and sprawling grounds, according to OK!

Kanye West furiously lashes out at tearful Kim Kardashian in explosive documentary

In his most recent documentary, Kylie West slammed his ex-wife Kim Kardashian for putting her family in danger. She provided an insight into his complicated life.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s ex-wife were left in agony after Kanye West furiously criticized her. Following the breakdown of his marriage to the billionaire businesswoman, the controversial rapper, now known as Ye, has caused a media frenzy.

West, 48, has previously revealed very private details about his family, including how he “almost killed” his eldest daughter North when he and Kim considered having an abortion. His unsuccessful bid for president in 2020 was the subject of the comments.

West’s behavior grew to be a driving force in their relationship during the final few years of his marriage to Kardashian, 44. In the end, he sold his wife and moved to Chicago. Kim was reduced to tears following one more of Kanye’s outbursts in a new documentary.

In a clip from In Whose Name?, Kanye is confronted by his cousin, who says, “You’re putting yourself and your family in danger of being murdered”! Despite her promising to protect him, Kynye lashes out at his cousin and asks her to leave.

Kim wiped away tears while acknowledging that “some people will say no” at some point. The TV host continued, “People don’t just start screaming and throwing tantrums, and I don’t just start screaming.” Simply put, that is unacceptable. West retorted, “But that’s just my personality,” while defending himself.

Kim continued, telling her ex-husband, that this was entirely unexpected for him, with him saying, “What do you mean? ” Backstage, I used to scream. She continued, “West wasn’t a daily occurrence for this,” despite the fact that it did. Fans have rallied around Kim since the video was shared online.

One person claimed that because of the way she folded her tissue, she had to go through this too frequently. “I’m glad Kim divorced Kanye,” she added. Look at how he acts toward women in this situation.

Third person wrote, “Wow, I’ll be respecting Kardashians a little more now that I’ve seen these clips… You can see she used to love him, but the patience and loving response are both remarkable. Another said, “It’s actually sad that she didn’t get married the first time, but glad she got out of that circumstance.”

In another clip from the same documentary, West verbally abuses Kris Jenner as she demands that she take his medication. West, who has been given a bipolar disorder, told Kris he would “rather be dead” than take medication.

He yelled at an emotional Kris and yelled, “Y’all demasculated me and made me feel like a piece of s***.” And you only managed to get away with it because you took medication. I prefer to die than take medication. My hospital visit was not personally impacted by any of the family’s policies, but if you want to go online, that’s 50% of what people say. At least. “Am I lying?”

When Kris said it wasn’t important, he saw red and screamed over her, “It does matter! It matters a lot! It is important, after all! the Kardashian mother in tears, leaving her. It matters to you and us, she said. Whatever the opinion of the internet is, it is irrelevant. Before he stormed out of the kitchen, Ye, it was important what we thought.

When West inquired about Kris’ mental health, she expressed her emotions and said, “Yes, yes, yes, I’m saying yes.” And she continued, “I love you, I don’t want you to be perfect, I love you,” adding that Kim wanted to love him.

Meghan Markle ‘will be worried’ as ex best pal ‘has an axe to grind’ after ‘hurtful’ move

Prior to their apparent breakup in 2020, Jessica Mulroney and the Duchess were reportedly close friends. Now, according to reports, she may be writing a tell-all book.

Meghan and Jessica were once incredibly close(Image: TIM STEWART NEWS LIMITED)

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not held back when it comes to airing their grievances with the royal family, but now it seems Meghan is set to be in the firing line.

The Mirror revealed last week that that Jessica Mulroney – Meghan’s former best friend – could be poised to write a tell-all book, which may include some intimate insights into their friendship and subsequent fall-out. And now insiders have revealed Jessica’s true feelings around the saga.

Once upon a time, Meghan and Jessica were close. Meghan called Jessica when Harry proposed, and the Mulroney family played important roles at Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018.

However, the two women haven’t seen one another for years, according to sources who claim Meghan abruptly ended her relationship with Jessica in 2020 after she had a relationship with influential Sasha Exeter.

Jessica’s apparent decision to cut ties was said to be deeply hurt. She complained that their friendship had ended. Jessica is aware of the burial locations of the bodies. An insider told the Daily Mail that Meghan will be concerned.

And people in the publishing world are circling, with an advance of $1million apparently on the table. A source told the Mirror: “Jessica’s explosive story is the one publishers want to get their hands on. She could command up to a seven-figure dollar sum depending on what she is prepared to say.

Jessica’s perspective and her time spent in the royal spotlight as friends with Meghan are of utmost interest. People would be eager to learn what actually transpired between them in Jessica’s book. Here is the true story royal watchers are asking for.

Jessica was deceived and hurt by these false accusations swirling her, the insider continued. She has experienced emotional suffering since she was actually put through the mud in 2020, watching from the sidelines as it all erupted in falsehoodhood and unable to respond.

After being canceled, this might be her chance to put the allegations against her.

She has the receipts, she claims. Writing a book would give her the chance to reclaim her power and refute the falsehoods that were spread during the bridesmaids’ dress fitting in 2018 for Meghan’s wedding to Harry because no one else at the time had a voice for her and helped her to get the truth out.

Jessica would finally be able to correct all the false narratives that have been fabricated if she pursues a book deal and explain what actually happened at the time.

Multiple reports suggest Jessica is considering writing a tell-all book(Image: Instagram )

Jessica has stated that there is “absolutely not” an autobiography in the works, giving the mystery of the broken friendship a new life. However, sources claim Jessica still “has an axe to grind” with the Duchess.

It’s a complete switch up for the former friends. Meghan first met Jessica when she was filming legal drama Suits in Toronto and the stylist went on to attend her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, having helped keep their dates in Canada and London secret in the summer of 2016.

In her 2022 Netflix documentary, Meghan shared footage of the night Prince Harry proposed in 2017 – where she FaceTimed her friend ‘Jess’ as she walked the grounds of Kensington Palace.

Brian and John, Jessica’s twin sons, performed a significant role at Meghan and Harry’s 2018 wedding, assisting with Jessica’s veil’s carriage down St. George’s Chapel aisle. Ivy, her daughter, also played a significant role in Meghan’s wedding, working alongside Princess Charlotte.

After posting a call to action in support of Black Lives Matter, Canadian lifestyle influencer Sasha Exeter publicly accused Jessica of having “textbook white privilege” and having “very problematic behavior and antics.”

In a comment on Exeter’s video, Jessica apologized initially. However, when Exeter later shared a private message from Jessica, who allegedly alluded to filing a lawsuit for libel, things got heated.

Jessica’s television series I Do, Redo was pulled by Canadian network CTV in the wake of the controversy, and she said she was “stepping away” from her regular work commitments, including Good Morning America appearances.

Jessica seemingly addressed rumours that she and Meghan had grown apart amid the scandal, posting on her Instagram Stories in September 2020: “I’m going to tell this once and for all. Meghan and I are family. She is the kindest friend and has checked up on me everyday.”

Meghan and Jessica haven’t been seen together since, which was once a regular occurrence. They don’t even follow one another, in fact.

Jessica was not mentioned in Spare, and she was notably absent from the Netflix series With Love, Meghan, which featured several of her close friends.

According to a source close to the source, Jessica and Meghan’s friendship was already in trouble when the influencer row broke out because Meghan allegedly believed she was trying to “make a career out of the friendship.”
