US puts Balochistan armed group in Pakistan on ‘foreign terrorist’ list

The United States has upped pressure on the Pakistan-based Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), labelling it a “foreign terrorist” organisation.

The designation, announced by the Department of State on Monday, comes after the BLA, which is also known as the Majeed Brigade, was designated a “specially designated global terrorist” (SDGT) organisation in 2019.

The new designation is more severe and comes as US President Donald Trump has sought increased contacts with Pakistan’s government.

In a statement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the move “demonstrates the Trump Administration’s commitment to countering terrorism”.

“Terrorist designations play a critical role in our fight against this scourge and are an effective way to curtail support for terrorist activities,” the statement said.

The BLA was designated as an SDGT following  a series of attacks in 2019. More recently, in March this year, the secessionist group claimed responsibility for the siege of a train travelling from Quetta to Peshawar, in which dozens of passengers and soldiers were killed.

The new designation makes it a crime for anyone in the US to provide support to the group, while the previous designation only targeted financial resources.

Balochistan is the largest but least populous and poorest province in Pakistan. The region has experienced at least five secessionist uprisings since Pakistan’s formation in 1947.

The latest iteration began in the early 2000s, and has since broadened its focus from securing the province’s natural resources to full-fledged independence.

Supporters of the secessionist movement have alleged that Pakistan’s government has exploited the region’s resources, while neglecting its population of 15 million. The province remains key to trade, housing the deep-sea ports at Gwadar, a key component in plans to link southwestern China to the Arabian Sea through Pakistan.

Recent BLA attacks have further inflamed tensions between Pakistan and India, with Islamabad accusing New Delhi of fuelling the violence. India has denied the claims.

Last month, the administration of US President Donald Trump also labelled The Resistance Front (TRF), which Rubio described as an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a “foreign terrorist” group following an attack in Indian-administered Kashmir in April that killed 26 people.

Trump later said he was behind a ceasefire that ended a brief military confrontation between India and Pakistan in May, a claim rejected by India. Relations between New Delhi and Washington have further soured over Trump’s tariff campaign against India.

Meanwhile, in June, Trump hosted Pakistani Army chief Asim Munir, considered one of the most powerful men in the country, for lunch at the White House.

NAF Says Airstrikes Killed Scores Of Terrorists In Zamfara

Scores of bandits have been reportedly killed in a series of coordinated air strikes by the air component of Operation Fasan Yamma, on Makakkari Forest in Zamfara State.

This was contained in a statement by the Director, Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, on Monday in Abuja.

According to him, Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) confirmed movements of over 400 bandits, planning to invade a farming community.

He said the operation involved precision airstrikes and ground assaults, resulting in the deaths of several notorious kingpins and scores of their foot soldiers.

Ejodame stated, “The synergy between air and land components made the operation exceptional.”

Armed groups called “bandits” by locals have for years been terrorising communities in northwest and central Nigeria, raiding villages, kidnapping residents for ransom and burning homes after looting them.

Cattle rustling and kidnapping have become huge moneymakers in the largely impoverished countryside.

Groups also levy taxes on farmers and artisanal miners.

The conflict is worsening a malnutrition crisis in the northwest as attacks drive people away from their farms, in a situation that has been complicated by climate change and western aid cuts.

Despite military deployment to fight the criminal gangs since 2015 and the creation of a militia force by the Zamfara State Government two years ago, the violence has persisted.

In July, Nigerian troops killed at least 95 members of an armed gang in a shootout and air strikes in the northwest state of Niger.

In her candid post, Stacey shared: “Feeling beautiful my sister hyped me up today & made me feel really pretty so I’m posting these. I love you Jem also my 3 day blow dry made it to the pool cave for at least 3 mins #buzzing.”

Stacey opened up on her fitness regime as she added: “P.S my body looks a little different to last years summer holiday. I am actually so proud of myself because I’ve stuck to my weight training consistently since February.

“Kept quiet and just got my head down & kept going. I genuinely only do it because I want to be so strong. Like boss bitch strong. I want to forever be able to pick up my babies with ease & carry double buggies on my shoulder when necessary.

“I feel so much stronger this year which is so empowering & yes my body has changed but honestly I loved my body aesthetically last year as much as I do this year. I’ve always been beautiful no matter what shape or size.”

She concluded: “So I suppose what I’m trying to say is… Don’t commit to fitness just for the looks. Do it so you can wrestle your 17 year old & carry all three of your toddlers in 40 heat & you’ll enjoy the journey more.”

Stacey’s fitness journey began in 2023 when she converted a barn at Pickle Cottage into a gym. After giving birth to her fifth child Belle in January that year, she said: “I’m going to try and use it every day.

“If I don’t use it every day this month, the whole lot is going to charity.” Revealing she had stuck to her plan, she then proudly told fans: “I said ‘right, i’ll just do 10 minutes on the treadmill, that’s better than nothing.

“Then, before I knew, it I’d done it…the whole thing. That mentally helped me and I’m so glad I did it. If you want to do something whether it’s a workout or the washing up, but you’re finding it too hard to get up and and go, be kind to yourself and start small!”

Stacey has also had the love and support from her older sister Samantha, who is a personal trainer. While Stacey has admitted she still finds exercising tough and like she is “going to die” when does it, she said the feeling she gets after a work out is worth it.

Telling her legion of loyal followers on Instagram, the ‘no pain, no gain’ mantra is true, she said: “It’s the feeling afterwards, I just feel stronger and athletic again.”
