Keely Hodgkinson is set to contest her first race since being crowned Olympic 800m champion 12 months ago, while fellow Briton Georgia Hunter Bell targets her third Diamond League win of the season in Silesia, Poland.

England’s Hodgkinson, who suffered setbacks during her recovery from a hamstring injury sustained in February, will make her long-awaited return to competitive action just four weeks before the start of the World Championships in Tokyo.

The 23-year-old, a two-time world silver medallist, will race over 800m in Silesia – an event that is not part of the Diamond League programme at this meeting.

Training partner Hunter Bell contests the women’s 1500m as the Olympic bronze medallist weighs up whether to target that event in Tokyo, or join Hodgkinson in the 800m.

Following 800m wins at the Diamond League events in Stockholm and London, Hunter Bell will test herself against Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay and Diribe Welteji in a high-quality line-up.

Also in Silesia, Dina Asher-Smith takes on world champion Sha’Carri Richardson in the women’s 100m, while Daryll Neita and Amy Hunt are up against two-time world champion Shericka Jackson in the 200m.

World indoor champion Amber Anning is in the women’s 400m, and the men’s 1500m features Neil Gourley.

Armand Duplantis – who this week broke the men’s pole vault world record for the 13th time – Faith Kipyegon, Noah Lyles and Femke Bol are among the global stars in action.

Watch the Silesia Diamond League action on BBC Two, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app from 15:00-17:00 BST on Friday.

What is on the line in the Diamond League?

The 16th Diamond League season is under way as athletics’ Olympic stars build towards their shot at world glory in 2025.

Athletes compete for points in 32 disciplines in a bid to qualify for the finals in Zurich in August.

That takes place just over a fortnight before the start of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

All Diamond League events will be shown on the BBC, which has agreed a deal to broadcast the competition for the next five years.

It is also the first year in which the Diamond League must compete with Michael Johnson’s new Grand Slam Track for athletes’ attention.

However, there has been only one direct clash between the two competitions – with the Miami Slam on 2-4 May taking place at the same time as the meet in Keqiao, China on 3 May.

The Diamond League has increased its prize money to a total of $9.24m (£6.95m) across the series.

How does the Diamond League work?

Athletes will compete for points at the 14 regular series meetings which started in April and run through to August.

Points are awarded on a scale from eight for first place to one for eighth place.

After the 14th meeting in Brussels, the top six ranked athletes in the field events, the top eight in track events from 100m up to 800m, and the top 10 in the distances from 1500m upwards qualify for the finals.

Romero Replaces Son As Spurs Captain

Cristian Romero has been named as Tottenham’s new captain after the departure of club legend Son Heung-min.

Son, who had worn the armband for the last two seasons and lifted the Europa League in May as Spurs ended their 17-year wait for a trophy, joined LAFC earlier this month.

Romero had acted as vice-captain for the previous two years and started the Europa League final win over Manchester United as skipper before Son came off the bench in the second half.

The 27-year-old Argentine will lead his side out when Tottenham take on European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.

“I had a good conversation with Cuti Romero and he’s going to be our captain,” new Tottenham manager Thomas Frank told the official club website.

“He was very honoured and very happy about it. It’s a big thing and should be to lead this wonderful club out on the pitch, not just for this Super Cup, but also throughout the season.

“I think he has all the right qualities. He leads from his behaviour on the pitch, driving the team forward in every way and outside the pitch he’s always pushing the team.”

Romero, who joined Spurs from Atalanta four years ago, was part of the Argentina side that won the 2022 World Cup.

Beckham feud update as Nicola and Brooklyn turn against his brothers and sister

Brooklyn Beckham failed to invite his family members to his wedding vow renewal with his wife Nicola Peltz, and it turns out his brothers were intentionally given the cold shoulder

Brooklyn Beckham renewed his wedding vows to Nicola Peltz, shockingly without inviting any of his family, including his parents and siblings. Speculation was rife about the whereabouts of the Beckham family, and it appears two of Brooklyn’s brothers were intentionally snubbed.

Earlier this week, Brooklyn and his wife Nicola shared heartwarming photos on Instagram from their special day, when they lovingly renewed their vows just three years after tying the knot. The bride was surrounded by her loved ones, wearing her mother’s dress and as her dad officiated the ceremony, but Brooklyn’s extended family was nowhere to be seen.

The aspiring chef is thought to have been caught up in an estrangement with his family since his wedding day, with the feud escalating after he missed his dad’s 50th birthday celebrations earlier this year. It comes after Cruz Beckham ‘steals’ his dad’s tiny white trunks and family have epic response.

In a fresh blow to the Beckham feud, Brooklyn’s parents, Victoria and David Beckham, were reportedly kept in the dark about his upcoming vow renewals, along with his siblings, Cruz, Harper, and Romeo, as well as his grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. It is thought that none of the Beckhams were invited because Brooklyn did not want his parents present, but there could be a more cynical reason.

Insiders close to Nicola and Brooklyn revealed that his brothers Romeo and Cruz were unwelcome to their vows, following what they allege are a series of online jibes from the pair.

“Brooklyn’s brothers have been fanning the flames..they’ve openly made fun of and trolled Brooklyn in comments on social media,” said the pal.

One comment under the spotlight was when Cruz responded to a post from a user asking him if he was “going to stick with this job or going to become a race car driver next or something?” To which Cruz, seemingly referring to his brother Brooklyn’s many career paths, responded: “Wrong brother mate”.

Others have speculated that Nicola is seeking “any reason” to distance Brooklyn further from his brothers, having previously been accused of “isolating” her husband from not only his family but also his friends.

Other friends of the couple claim it was difficult not to invite sister Harper, who is close to Brooklyn, as well as his grandparents. The pal said: “They are trying to make the best decisions for them in what are very unfortunate circumstances. Navigating family stuff is hard and it’s ugly.”

Remarkably, they still hold out hope for a reconciliation. The friend added: “The door is open. No one wants to see this kind of pain exist. There is always hope. At the end of the day. Blood is thicker than water.”

Eamonn Holmes gushes over ‘unconditional love’ who ‘changed him’ after marriage split

GB News host Eamonn Holmes said while he feels “unconditional” love towards his female companion, his disability has got in the way of their relationship

Eamonn Holmes opened up about his love for his dog Maggie

Eamonn Holmes has opened up about the “unconditional love” he feels for his dog Maggie, whom he rescued alongside his former wife Ruth Langsford. The ex-couple adopted the pooch from Dogs Trust charity 15 years ago, and since then, fans have seen her grow through various social media posts.

Following their separation last year, Maggie has stayed with Ruth at their former family home in Surrey.

Speaking about their four-legged friend, Eamonn said that while their connection remains strong, his mobility struggles have got in the way of caring for Maggie.

“There’s only one word I’d use and that’s love,” he said of their bond. “She changed me, changed my life and changed my perception towards people.

“I am now disabled. I’m in a wheelchair. I’ve not been able to walk for two years, and this has affected my relationship with Maggie for the worse.

“Obviously the dog is low down in the ground so I can’t bend down. I can’t lift her up. I can’t take her on walks.”

Chatting to The Times, Eamonn confirmed that Ruth is Maggie’s main carer, though noted that their dog “still recognises” him.

“Although I can’t do what I want to do with her, my relationship with her supersedes that,” he continued.

Eamonn, 65, went on to describe his affection for Maggie as “pure” and “unadulterated”, something he claims he’s never felt before.

“[It’s] love that I’ve often looked for in human beings, and suddenly you’re getting it back, this unconditional love. There’s just an empathy,” he concluded.

Eamonn and Ruth announced their split in May last year, after 14 years of marriage. The GB News presenter has since found love again with Katie Alexander, 43, a relationship counsellor, while Ruth remains single for the time being.

In addition to Maggie, they have a 23-year-old son named Jack, and Eamonn also has three other children from his first marriage.

Opening up about their separation for the first time in February, Ruth told Woman and Home Magazine: “I’m quite fine being on my own, but not forever.

“Relationship breakdowns are very difficult, but you deal with it and have to move on. You can let yourself crumble or you pick yourself up and get on with life. It’s a choice.”

Ruth went on to say that she wasn’t “delighted” about their marriage ending, but had come to terms with the situation.

Previously discussing their shared love for Maggie in a joint interview, Eamonn made a cryptic joke about Ruth loving their pet dog more than him.

He told The Telegraph: “If my wife loved me the way my dog loves me, I’d be a very happy man.”

Ruth chimed in: “We love her so much. You come home and you’ve had a tough day, a long day, whatever, and I see her and she sees me, or Eamonn, and you see her tail going, and then she runs off, and I know it’s because she’s getting a toy from her basket to bring you.

TOWIE’s James Lock unrecognisable after dramatic transformation with Ibiza Final Boss

Former The Only Way Is Essex star James Lock debuted a very different look as he partied with the Ibiza Final Boss on the party island, leaving his pals in fits of laughter

It’s the battle of the Essex vs Ibiza Final Boss(Image: Instagram)

One former The Only Way Is Essex star has opted for an Ibiza Final Boss makeover. James Lock, who quit the show in 2023, looked extremely different as he soaked up the sun on the Spanish island.

James, 38, was kicking off his summer on the island as he met up with the Ibiza Final Boss, Jack Kay, while at the Wi-ki-Woo Hotel. But the reality star, who often found himself at the centre of arguments during his time on the programme which also documented his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Danielle Armstrong, opted for a very different look.

In recent weeks, Kay, known as the Ibiza Final Boss, has taken social media by storm after he was seen in the back of a picture which went viral on social media. The Geordie lad, 26, was quickly identified after a brand called out for people to name him on social media in exchange for guest list tickets to events from Zero Six West. It comes after the now infamous Ibiza Final Boss Jack Kay’s girlfriend speaks out after his incredible haircut goes viral.

But as James plugged his drink brand, Cerrar, he couldn’t miss an opportunity to have a photo with the viral meme king. Jack, known for his blunt bowl-cut hairstyle, sparkling sunglasses, rather eye-catching gold chain, black vest top, and blinding white smile, was happy to oblige.

Posing alongside one another, James decided to brush his brunette hair to the front of his head to impersonate Jack’s hairstyle while also wearing a pair of oversized sunglasses. “Essex final boss vx Ibiza final boss,” he said alongside his post.

The upload, which has been liked over 5,000 times, was flooded with comments from friends and fans who had been left in fits of laughter. Georgia Kousoulou commented a string of crying with laughter emojis. While Kirk Norcross commented: “Mate… rarely, I laugh. This is a golden.”

Another person penned: “His hairs better than yours.” While another added: “Looks like a great time was had by all.” The phrase Final Boss is taken from the gaming industry, suggesting that someone is the ultimate version of a stereotype.

Since going viral, Jack has taken the world by storm, having already met with infamous adult content creator Bonnie Blue and signed a lucrative management deal. He’s been signed by Neon Management, the same team that turned Joey Essex into a huge star after his stint on TOWIE.

But it also appears that there could be some serious work coming from the Ibiza Final Boss. He’s planning to release his own music, including a dance track on the streaming service Spotify. Reports claim that his team have been flooded with offers for TV shows, including Big Brother.

A source told The Sun: “Bosses had talks with his management, it is very late in the casting process for housemates but everyone thought worth a chat whether it be in time for this series, even as part of a task, or for the future. Jack’s reps Neon Management have been inundated with offers for him so he’s certainly going to be busy for at least the next few months.

“They’ve seen an unprecedented level of interest in him, and that the nation loves him.”

Palestinian man killed in West Bank by Israeli soldier backing up settlers

A Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank has been shot dead in an attack instigated by Israeli settlers, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry as cited by the Wafa news agency.

Thamin Khalil Reda Dawabsheh, 35, was shot Wednesday morning in the town of Duma, south of Nablus, by an Israeli off-duty soldier who was accompanying “an Israeli civilian” near Duma “during engineering works”, the Israeli army said.

Earlier Palestinian reports of the attack had stated that Dawabsheh was killed by an Israeli settler.

According to the mayor of Duma, Palestinians in the town were “startled” by an Israeli settler attack, said Al Jazeera’s Nida Ibrahim.

“The settlers started assaulting a 14-year-old, leading many Palestinian men to go and try to defend him,” Ibrahim said.

Later, more armed settlers arrived, and they started shooting at the Palestinians, resulting in the death of Dawabsheh, “whose only crime was being on his land”, she added.

Suleiman Dawabsheh, the head of the Duma village council, said that settlers attacked Palestinians and opened fire on them in the southern part of the village, amid land-levelling operations that have been taking place in the area for days, Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

Ibrahim said that Thamin Dawabsheh’s killing is part of a pattern of increased Israeli settler violence against Palestinians that is often filmed on camera.

“Every day, we stumble upon more videos showing how Israeli settlers are attacking Palestinians – intimidating them, shooting them, killing them. And they are not being held accountable by the Israeli authorities,” said Ibrahim.

The statement published by the Israeli army claimed dozens of Palestinians were hurling rocks towards the Israeli civilian and soldier, and “in response, the soldier fired to remove the threat, and a hit was identified”.

A deadly pattern of Israeli military, settler attacks

Recently, 31-year-old Palestinian activist and English teacher Awdah Hathaleen was shot dead by an Israeli settler on July 28 in the village of Umm al-Kheir, south of Hebron.

Hathaleen was well known for his activism, including helping the creators of the Oscar-winning film No Other Land, which documents Israeli settler and soldier attacks on the Palestinian community of Masafer Yatta.

Israeli settlers, protected by the Israeli military, are often armed and fire at will against Palestinians who try to stop them. They attack residents and burn property with impunity, rarely if ever facing legal consequences.

The Israeli military has also been intensifying its deadly raids, home demolitions and displacement campaigns in the West Bank.

Violent attacks by Israeli settlers and soldiers in the occupied West Bank have surged since October 2023, in tandem with Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, with the United Nations reporting that almost 650 Palestinians – including 121 children – have been killed in the territory by Israeli forces and settlers between January 1, 2024 and the start of July 2025.
