Liam Gallagher made sure to dedicate Oasis hit Stand By Me to none other than Susan Boyle as they wrapped up their Scottish shows. The Britpop icons headed to Edinburgh’s Murrayfield stadium this weekend and last night as they performed to 210,000 fans.

As they prepared to bid farewell to the Scottish capital, Liam revealed the band has an unexpected fan. He made sure to mention Britain’s Got Talent star Susan before performing the 1997 hit.

Liam quipped: “This one is for Susan Boyle,” before he launched into the song. It comes after Paul Weller reveals the unusual reason he refuses to watch Oasis concerts.

The clip of Liam’s shoutout quickly went viral online as one said: “Wee SuBo getting a mention.” Another added: “Hahaha Mon the Susan”.

Someone else commented: “He makes me laugh!!” It seemed Susan was more than impressed by the dedication from Liam as she shared a snap of her all kitted out in Oasis merchandise.

The opera singer stood in her home and gave a thumbs up to the camera as she rocked an Oasis T-shirt and Liam Gallagher bucket hat. Alongside her post, Susan expressed her delight at the shoutout and revealed she’ll be seeing Oasis soon.

She said: “Thanks so much for the dedication @liamgallagher. You’ve made this old girl’s day. Hope to see you and the rest of @oasis at Wembley in September for a wee bit of poznan. Big love to you all.”

The love for Susan didn’t stop there as the official Oasis Instagram account shared snaps from the Edinburgh show on Tuesday and wrote: “THIS ONE’S FOR SUSAN BOYLE.”

Oasis’ huge reunion tour is set to move onto Dublin next, followed by the US, Asia, Australasia and South America. Rumours have already started to emerge that the band could carry on playing into next year.

Fans are hoping Oasis will return to Knebworth House next year as they mark the 30th anniversary of their two historic shows there. According to the Sun, Oasis has been offered four dates at Knebworth along with a possible residency at their beloved Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

Fake posters of a 2026 tour have already appeared online as fans hold out hope for a chance to see the brothers back in action. However, it all boils down to whether Liam and Noel are really up for carrying it on.

“They’ll be having a well-earned holiday as soon as this tour finishes later this year,” a source told the publication. “As for 2026, they’ve seen the speculation, they’ve heard about the offers and they know what the fans want. But it’s ultimately up for them to decide.”

Oasis’ manager, Alec McKinlay, previously said that the current dates are the only ones that the band will be performing. He said in May: “This is very much the last time around, as Noel’s made clear in the press.

“It’s a chance for fans who haven’t seen the band to see them, or at least for some of them to. No, there’s no plans for any new music.”

But Liam later hit out at the comments while replying to a fan on X, as he fumed: “Neither do I and the only people that will be making any kind of decisions on the future of OASIS will be ME n RKID [Noel] so let’s just take it one day at a time.”

O’Sullivan storms back to beat Chang in Saudi Arabia

Ronnie O’Sullivan hit back from 5-2 down to beat Chang Bingyu 6-5 and reach the quarter-finals of the Saudi Arabia Masters.

Chang, who recently returned after a two-year ban for his part in a match-fixing scandal, produced three breaks in the 60s and one of 80 on his way to moving one frame from victory against the seven-time world champion.

O’Sullivan knocked in a six-minute break of 103 to reduce the deficit to 5-3, and took the next two before a 125 break in the decider to clinch victory and a last-eight meeting with Kyren Wilson, who beat Si Jiahui 6-3.

“I missed so many easy balls. It’s just not good enough to win tournaments,” O’Sullivan told TNT Sports.

Mark Williams made it through with a 6-1 win against Shaun Murphy and will next play Elliot Slessor, who earned a 6-5 victory over Stuart Bingham.

“Everything’s a blur and I do it to see how well I am cueing,” said three-time world champion Williams – who is considering eye lens replacement surgery – on closing his eyes before hitting the cue ball.

“I’ve got to do all my alignments stood up because when I am down there it’s a guess.

“When I’m doing the shots shutting my eyes it just confirms to me that I’m in the right line really.

“If it misses to the left or right I know which part of the ball I’ve hit.”

Mark Selby, a four-time world champion, became the fifth player to make 900 career centuries when he made 119 against Neil Robertson, but lost the match 6-4. Ali Carter beat Oliver Lines 6-3 and will play Robertson in the quarter-finals.

Rising seas could put Easter Island’s iconic statues at risk by 2080: Study

The Journal of Cultural Heritage has published a new study indicating that rising sea levels could push powerful seasonal waves into Easter Island’s 15 iconic moai statues, in the latest potential peril to cultural heritage from climate change.

“Sea level rise is real,” said Noah Paoa, lead author of the study published on Wednesday and a doctoral student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology. “It’s not a distant threat.”

About 50 other cultural sites in the area are also at risk from flooding.

Paoa, who is from Easter Island – a Chilean territory and volcanic island in Polynesia known to its Indigenous people as Rapa Nui – and his colleagues built a high-resolution “digital twin” of the island’s eastern coastline and ran computer models to simulate future wave impacts under various sea level rise scenarios. They then overlaid the results with maps of cultural sites to pinpoint which places could be inundated in the coming decades.

The findings show waves could reach Ahu Tongariki, the largest ceremonial platform on the island, as early as 2080. The site, home to the 15 towering moai, draws tens of thousands of visitors each year and is a cornerstone of the island’s tourism economy.

Beyond its economic value, the ahu is deeply woven into Rapa Nui’s cultural identity. It lies within Rapa Nui National Park, which encompasses much of the island and is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The roughly 900 moai statues across the island were built by the Rapa Nui people between the 10th and 16th centuries to honour important ancestors and chiefs.

The threat isn’t unprecedented. In 1960, the largest earthquake ever recorded – a magnitude 9.5 off the coast of Chile – sent a tsunami surging across the Pacific. It struck Rapa Nui and swept the already-toppled moai further inland, which damaged some of their features. The monument was restored in the 1990s.

While the study focuses on Rapa Nui, its conclusions echo a wider reality: Cultural heritage sites worldwide are increasingly endangered by rising seas. A UNESCO report published last month found that about 50 World Heritage sites are highly exposed to coastal flooding.

A UNESCO spokesperson told The Associated Press news agency that climate change is the biggest threat to UNESCO’s World Heritage marine sites. “In the Mediterranean and Africa, nearly three-quarters of coastal low-lying sites are now exposed to erosion and flooding due to accelerated sea level rise.”

Possible defences for Ahu Tongariki range from armouring the coastline and building breakwaters to relocating the monuments.

PSG Beat Tottenham To Win UEFA Super Cup

European champions Paris Saint-Germain beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties to win the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday after producing a late comeback to draw the match 2-2.

Goncalo Ramos headed in the equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time before Nuno Mendes converted the decisive kick in the shoot-out to allow PSG to win the Super Cup for the first time in their history.

Spurs looked set to get their hands on the trophy in their first competitive match under new coach Thomas Frank as they led 2-0 just after half-time at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy.

Micky van de Ven gave last season’s Europa League winners the lead on 39 minutes, and Cristian Romero got their second goal three minutes into the second half.

However, PSG were rescued by two substitutes as Lee Kang-in pulled a goal back in the 85th minute and Goncalo Ramos headed in the equaliser four minutes into injury time.

That meant a penalty shoot-out, but it started badly for PSG when Vitinha put their first kick wide.

However, new Paris goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier saved from Van de Ven, and Mathys Tel missed the target, allowing Nuno Mendes to convert the winning penalty for PSG.

Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pedro Porro all scored from the spot for Spurs, in vain. Ramos, Ousmane Dembele, and Lee converted for PSG before Mendes stepped up.

It is the first time PSG, or indeed any French club, have lifted the Super Cup, as they take their tally of trophies won in 2025 to five.

It is also the perfect start to the new campaign for Luis Enrique’s team, who had a shortened off-season break having lost the FIFA Club World Cup final to Chelsea exactly a month ago.

They now begin the new Ligue 1 campaign on Sunday away to Nantes, while Spurs will turn their attentions to the start of the Premier League season as they take on Burnley at home on Saturday.

The French giants had, in May, won the Champions League for the first time in their history as Luis Enrique’s brilliant young side outclassed Inter Milan in the most one-sided final ever.

Teenager Desire Doue scored twice in an astonishing 5-0 victory.

Achraf Hakimi, playing against his former club, gave PSG an early lead, and Doue went from provider to finisher as his deflected shot doubled their advantage in the 20th minute.

Doue scored again just after the hour mark, ending any doubt about the outcome before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ran away to get the fourth, and substitute Senny Mayulu made it five.

Inter were simply no match for the French club, who recorded the biggest victory by any team in the final in the 70-year history of the European Cup and Champions League.

The triumph for the Parisians comes after more than a decade of huge investment from their Qatari owners, and five years after they lost to Bayern Munich in their only previous final appearance.

The French league and cup double winners were remarkably just the second ever French winners of European football’s biggest prize; Marseille were the first in 1993, when they beat AC Milan in a final also played in Munich.

It is also a second Champions League for PSG coach Luis Enrique, who won with Lionel Messi’s Barcelona a decade ago.
