Pakistan and Afghanistan agree to maintain truce for another week: Turkiye

According to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan and Afghanistan have reached an agreement to keep the dialogue going for at least for another week during talks in Turkiye.

In a statement released on behalf of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and mediators Turkiye and Qatar, the parties announced a second meeting at a higher-level gathering in Istanbul on November 6 to finalize how the ceasefire will be implemented.

The statement read, “All parties have agreed to put in place a monitoring and verification mechanism that will ensure the maintenance of peace and impose punishment on the violating party.”

Following explosions in Afghanistan, which the Afghan government attributed to Pakistan, the two neighbors began fighting over the border earlier this month.

Pakistan’s military claimed that more than 200 Afghan fighters were killed in the subsequent cross-border attacks, while Afghanistan claims that 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed.

Since the Taliban regained control of Kabul in 2021, the two countries engaged in the most serious fighting.

The defense ministers of Pakistan and Afghanistan ratified a ceasefire on October 19 in Doha following the skirmishes through mediation between Qatar and Turkiye.

A second round of talks between the two countries, which are located on a 2,600-kilometer (1,600-mile) border, broke down on Wednesday when both parties failed to agree on Islamabad’s main demand that Kabul halt Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, an armed group known as the Pakistan Taliban or TTP, which has long been accused by Pakistan of carrying out deadly attacks inside its territory.

The Afghan government has consistently denied providing the group with safe haven.

Talks that were resumed on Thursday led to an agreement to keep the ceasefire until a second round of discussions on November 6.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Afghan government, confirmed the outcome of the discussions in a statement, saying both parties had agreed to continue the dialogue at upcoming meetings. Pakistan did not respond right away.

The border between the two nations has been closed for more than two weeks, causing significant losses for traders in the area, despite a ceasefire still in effect.

Both countries “will bear losses,” according to Nazir Ahmed, a cloth trader in Kandahar on the Afghan side.

The 35-year-old said on Wednesday, “Our country is tired and their country is tired.”

In the Pakistani border town of Chaman, trade suffers greatly, according to Abdul Jabbar, a trader of vehicle spare parts.

BAFTA winner with royal link to narrate King Charles’s Prime Video documentary

Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision, a documentary about King Charles III, starring an Oscar-winning actress, has been revealed as the narrator. It is scheduled to be released in early 2026.

A BAFTA-winning actress is set to lend her voice to a Prime Video documentary that explores King Charles’s dedication to aligning nature and humanity. The documentary, titled ‘Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision’, is slated for release in early 2026.

Narrated by Titanic’s Kate Winslet, it will spotlight the work of The King’s Foundation, a charity established by Charles in 1990. Oscar-winning actress Winslet expressed her excitement about the project, stating: “It is a both pleasure and a privilege to be a part of this film, which is a fascinating insight into the King’s work as an environmentalist.”

It’s been really rewarding to work with The King’s Foundation on this groundbreaking project because I share His Majesty’s passion for protecting our planet and creating sustainable communities.

I’m confident that the content of the movie will teach, make people laugh, and give them inspiration, and I hope Harmony’s impact will be felt in the future.

The 50-year-old Titanic star became a King’s Foundation ambassador earlier this year. She also attended the June 2016 St. James’s Palace awards ceremony for the foundation.

Winslet is set to make an appearance in the upcoming Avatar sequel, Fire And Ash, in addition to her roles in The Holiday (2006), The Reader (2008), and Revolutionary Road (2008).

According to The King’s Foundation, the documentary following the monarch will examine the King’s “harmonie philosophy,” which views everything in life as interconnected, including ourselves. It will reveal how The King’s Foundation, which is based in Dumfries House in Scotland, has promoted this philosophy through initiatives promoting sustainable living, sustainable textiles, and traditional crafts.

Working with Kate Winslet on this movie has been transformative, according to director Nicolas Brown. She possesses the ideal combination of celebrity and intellect to tell this story without any other author.

“His Majesty King Charles III has lived such an incredible life, striving to bring humankind into harmony with the natural world for over half a century. It’s an epic tale, full of drama, and Kate has turned it into a story that any one of us will relate to. We are so fortunate to have an artist of her calibre on the team.”

The King’s Foundation’s CEO, Kristina Murrin, stated, “We hope that viewers will better understand His Majesty’s Philosophy of Harmony, which is so important to our work at The King’s Foundation.

We’re thrilled Kate is taking this journey with us, and we’re excited to see Kate make it public next year.

The documentary, which was produced by Passion Planet, will be available for purchase on Prime Video in more than 240 nations and territories around the world starting in the spring. A dramatized account of Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview was released by Amazon last year.

Fenerbahce games against Israeli sides moved to Munich

Due to security concerns, Fenerbahce’s home EuroLeague games against Israeli sides Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv will be moved to Germany.

The Turkish teams were supposed to host Istanbul on November 11 and 13, but the matches will now be held in Munich on the same dates because of what Fenerbahce claimed were security measures put in place by Turkish authorities.

Fenerbahce stated that the games would be “open to the participation of our fans” at SAP Garden in the German city.

The defending champions of the EuroLeague had to move two games from Istanbul, Lithuania, to the new venue last year.

Since Israel launched a military offensive in Gaza on October 7, 2023 in response to the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, relations between Turkey and Israel have deteriorated.

Since then, Turkey has witnessed significant anti-Israel demonstrations.

Fenerbahce and Efes Istanbul, along with other EuroLeague teams, criticized the tournament’s organizers’ decision to allow Israeli clubs to resume home games starting December 1st.

Since October 2023, the Israeli teams have been playing their home games in the EuroLeague and EuroCup abroad.

The latest in a long line of incidents involving the Israel-Gaza war has had an impact on sports.

A decision was made earlier this month to prevent Maccabi Tel Aviv football fans from watching Aston Villa play in Birmingham on November 6th on safety.

Before Maccabi’s match against Ajax in the same competition in November of last year, violence also erupted.

The Israel national football team’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Norway and Italy this month also attracted protests.

Sinner, Zverev March Into Paris Masters Last Eight

At the Paris Masters on Thursday, Jannik Sinner defeated Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 6-1, to advance to the quarter-finals, and Alexander Zverev, the current champion, defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets in the third round.

After Carlos Alcaraz’s shock early exit at the hands of Britain’s Cameron Norrie, a maiden crown in the French capital will bring Sinner back to number one in the world rankings.

As he pursues what would be his fifth championship of the year, the four-time Grand Slam champion from Italy, no set has been dropped.

“I thought the first set was very important today,” she said. It’s very difficult to play against Francisco because of his level, Sinner said on-court.

“I raised the level in the second set, and I’m thrilled to be in the quarter-finals here for the first time.”

When Sinner seized on the serve of Argentina’s 21st-ranked player Cerundolo at 6-5 to take control of the opener, which featured four consecutive breaks, Sinner won favorably.

The 24-year-old then immediately increased their lead in the second set by leading by a set 5-1 before meeting with US fifth seed Shelton in Friday’s quarter-finals.

Shelton advanced to the last eight after defeating Russian Andrey Rublev 7-6 (8 / 3) 6-3.

The 23-year-old won a landmark tournament in Turin, his second of his career, following up on his first 1000-level title, which he won in Toronto this summer.

Shelton described the season-ending event as “an accumulation of a year’s work, a lot of ups and downs, great results, poor results, and having to bounce back.”

‘My Kryptonite’

In the day’s final match-up, Zverev defeated Spanish 15th seed Davidovich Fokina 6-2, 6-4, to extend his title defense.

Former world number one Daniil Medvedev, who defeated Lorenzo Sonego of Italy in three sets, will face the German third seed next.

The now-ranked Russian won both matches, including the title-match in 2020, with Zverev and Medvedev having previously met in the Paris Masters.

“Daniil is a person I know very well, and he frequently outwits me.” Zverev acknowledged that he resembles my kryptonite a little.

Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan defeated US fourth seed Taylor Fritz 7-6 (7 / 6) 6-2 to set up a last-eight contest with world number six Alex de Minaur of Australia.

13th seed Bublik said it would take something extraordinary for him to win his career’s first Masters title despite the fact that he arguably had the best life in 2025.

The 28-year-old said, “I have three matches left to win, I have to beat the top ten players, maybe Jannik in the final,” which “sounds a miracle.”

De Minaur, Bublik’s next opponent, defeated Russian 10th seed Karen Khachanov 6-2, 6-2, cementing his place at the ATP Finals the following month.

Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada defeated German Daniel Altmaier 33-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarter-finals after coming from behind for the third time in as many matches in Paris.

The ninth seed occupies a spot away from Lorenzo Musetti’s previous ATP Finals spot, which he currently holds after losing to Sonego on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old would advance above the Italian in the race to the eight-man showpiece with an Auger-Aliassime charge to the title-decider in Paris.

However, Auger-Aliassime must stop Monaco’s in-form Valentin Vacherot before he can begin to think about that.
