Awful & outplayed – Slot must look closer to home to end Liverpool slump

Arne Slot, head coach at Liverpool, pointed out a shift in how they approached their opponents during this season as a contributing factor to the struggles of the Premier League champions.

After this miserable night at Brentford, though, it is now time to reflect more broadly.

The scoreline of just 3 to 3 is misleading. If Liverpool had somehow saved a point, it would have been a grand larceny because Brentford were superior in every way.

Slot cited the Reds’ dramatic fall from grace as a factor in their dramatic decline, which resulted in a fourth successive Premier League defeat, along with the number of long balls they faced.

The Dutchman now needs to concentrate on the desperate efforts of his own players, who were incredibly vulnerable, exposed, flat, and completely out of sorts, rather than publicly flagging this as a potential weakness in his Liverpool side.

As they sluggished once more, leaving the visiting fans in agony as they made their way home from a chilly west London night, they offered no one redeeming feature.

They are only the fourth reigning champions to lose four games in a row after Leicester in 2016-17, Liverpool themselves in 2020-21, and Manchester City last season, losing just four. They have lost as many Premier League games this term as they have in their entire title-winning campaign.

After just five minutes, Dango Ouatarra scored from Kristoffer Ajer’s flick-on, if he had been aware of how the opposition tried to unlock Liverpool, he would not have been surprised if he had known.

Simply put, Liverpool was outplayed. And terrible. They succumbed to counter-attacks and set-pieces, which is the old-fashioned story we know today.

The decline in standards from the Anfield outfit is alarming, but Brentford’s own outstanding display under a leader of growing stature in Keith Andrews must not be ignored.

With Mikkel Damsgaard’s incredible through-ball releasing Kevin Schade for a stylish second goal, The Bees were able to run through them effortlessly, unsettling them at every turn.

Liverpool faced issues from well-known artists of the past to ostentatious, overpriced new acquisitions who were merely unimpressive.

Virgil van Dijk cannot escape scrutiny, his tense partnership with Liverpool’s struggling £40 million Milos Kerkez, and the captain’s first-half quarrels with the Hungarian.

On the line of the penalty area, Van Dijk brought down Outarra, and Igor Thiago’s spot kick was the one that Brentford could not have won.

Liverpool have conceded 14 goals in their nine league games this season, compared to Liverpool’s 22 since the start of May, and they have conceded 2+ goals in their most recent nine games. Prior to their 16th game, they did not concede their 14th goal in the previous campaign.

Liverpool’s midfield was inexistent, and hope that £116 million Florian Wirtz had resurrected with a better performance in the 5-1 Champions League victory at Eintracht Frankfurt was shattered here.

With seven minutes left and Brentford 3-1 up, the German missed a fantastic opening opportunity before being replaced by a defender, Joe Gomez.

Slot’s assessment of the impact and impact of his summer signing was quite positive. As he left, Brentford’s supporters chanted “what a waste of money!” to his departure.

In a frantic finale, Mohamed Salah flashed one more example of the old mastery, giving Liverpool hope they did not deserve, but it was another subpar performance from one of the club’s greatest players who is struggling for inspiration and self-assurance.

Hugo Ekitike, the one summer arrival who has flourished, had no service deserving of the name in the absence of injured £125 million buy Alexander Isak and midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

According to Slot, “It was a disappointing result and a disappointing performance as well,” he continued on BBC’s Match of the Day.

Three goals is far too much to win a football game, according to the saying. One of Brentford’s strengths is the set-piece and the counter-attack, which are both very good at.

“What I need to do is examine both our mistakes and our errors,” she says. Although I know where we need to improve, this hasn’t been the case with other games. The fundamentals were not done correctly.

Slot will need to quickly discover the solutions.

In addition to a home league game against Aston Villa, Liverpool’s next four games will be against Crystal Palace at Anfield in the final 16 of the Carabao Cup. Real Madrid then travel to Manchester City, where you can be certain Erling Haaland will be licking his lips if he faces a defense this weak.

Wirtz continues to try his luck, encouraging any ambitious opponents, into the Liverpool team, which has a quality but no shape team. Nothing has improved or made any progress despite the nearly £450 million spent this summer.

Given their struggles, Liverpool’s much-discussed blip seems to be achieving that victory at Eintracht Frankfurt, which is unthinkable given their recent success, which included finishing 10 points clear of them in the lead.

ITV star wants to interview Putin and is ‘not scared’ to ask tough questions

Krishnan Guru-Murthy, a presenter for ITV Channel 4 News, has spent decades in the news industry, and he wants to speak with one person.

Vladimir Putin is attempting to interview Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

The presenter of Channel 4 News wants to discuss a number of contentious issues with the Russian president. He stated, “Putin has been at the top of my list for a very long time.” We’ve requested an interview with him. He has never existed before. The journalist continued, “He would be the big one.” It would be amazing to get him.

Krishnan has no desire to punch Putin if he is ever able to interrogate him. You just go for it, he said. You pose the difficult questions to him. You must not have fear.

He added: “He’s one of the most important people in the world. He’s powerful and responsible for one of the great scars in geopolitics at the moment with the war in Ukraine; there is a lot to hold him to account for.”, reports the Daily Star.

Krishnan claims he wouldn’t be alarmed if the former intelligence chief were to be a target. He continued, “I’ve spent my entire life interviewing powerful and potentially dangerous people.” You are stress-free. Interviewing Putin wouldn’t be intimidating to me. You can’t be afraid of anyone while working my way.

Krishnan has been a mainstay of Channel 4 News for decades, having initially kicked off his career on BBC children’s programme Newsround back in 1991.

He then worked as a correspondent for programs like Newsnight for three years before beginning his career. He moved to Channel 4 in 1998, where he has since become the show’s second-longest presenter, accumulating a number of significant moments throughout his career, including coverage of the 7/7 bombings and the September 11 attacks.

He was infamously yanked off the air after swearing at Steve Baker, the minister for Northern Ireland, in 2022, before being allowed to return to the airwaves shortly after.

A 2013 conversation with Quentin Tarantino, who declined to comment on whether film violence has any connection to real-life violence, was one of his other memorable interviews. Additionally, Robert Downey Jr.’s notorious 2015 interview abruptly ended when the Hollywood star left in the middle of a conversation.

Krishnan has also dabbled in other areas of television fame, having participated in Strictly Come Dancing in 2023. Paired with professional dancer Lauren Oakley, Krishnan’s stint lasted seven weeks before they were voted off the popular BBC show.

Strictly’s Balvinder Sopal praises ‘iconic’ Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman after exit

Suki Panesar, played by EastEnders actor Balvinder Sopal, has praised Strictly Come Dancing presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

Strictly matriarchs Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly will be sorely missed, says EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal. This week the presenting duo shocked everyone when they announced they would be departing the show at the end of the current series. Balvinder, 46, paid tribute to the “caring” and “supportive” pair.

The actress, who plays Suki Panesar, said, “People are sad that they lost their iconic presence on Strictly.” They are truly brilliant. They are powerful, funny, and seductive. They are sassy, look amazing, and have a certain age before they can get past. They are captivating, draw audiences in, and occasionally make a tune in for them. What a wonderful job they did for both the show and for us.

“They’re the best of friends and they come across like that. How lucky are we to be able to absorb that energy and be taken care of? They’re the matriarchs of the show, they really have taken care of Strictly Come Dancing in the best possible way. And what an inspiration for us as well, to be looking up to such women like that.”

Soap star Balvinder – who danced the quickstep to Texas Hold ‘Em by Beyoncé last night with partner Julian Caillon – described is an “end of an era” and said it’s a privilege to dance in their final season.

They represent Bruce Forsyth and Len Goodman’s era in Strictly. They leave behind all that. We will now have two new people who will direct the show in a different way when they leave. We simply need to reinvent ourselves and move on as things come to an end. See what transpires. They need to be filled with big boots.

Tess and Claudia announced their departure from the show on Thursday (23 October) in a joint video, where they said: “After 21 wonderfully joyful years on Strictly, we have decided that the time is right to step aside.”

They added that they are bound by a collective bargain. Tess referred to Strictly as her “third child” and “second family” in a separate statement, promising to continue watching but felt the need to “hand over the reins.”

“We were always going to leave together, and this is the right time,” he said. We just want to say a huge thank you to the BBC and to everyone who volunteers for the show so that we can watch it for the longest while it lasts. We’ll miss them every day because they are the most brilliant team. When we say the final “keep dancing,” we will cry, but we’ll keep saying it to one another. Just possibly while eating some pizza while wearing tracksuit bottoms at home.

Sources close to the pair, who always had a pact to leave together at the same time, suggested they had told the top show execs of their plan some weeks ago, but their video on social media caught many of the Strictly cast and crew off guard. Insiders said privately Tess and Claudia have been discussing the idea of leaving for around a year.

Tess and Claudia wanted to rise to the top, a source said, “while the show is still huge, and shortly after they received MBEs. Midway through the series, it becomes a bit of a swansong and doesn’t distract the viewer from the winner.

With The Traitors and other TV shows abounding, Claudia is at her peak of her career. Teess enjoys spending more time with her family and friends after being the show’s host for more than 20 years.

They considered it was the right time to stop because the recent scandals surrounding the show have also had a slight impact on the ratings and there may be more.

According to a source close to the duo, “they always said they would go together when they felt right, and it just feels right this year.”

British Airways pause Louis Theroux podcast sponsorship after Bob Vylan interview

Following an interview with Bob Vylan’s frontman Pascal Robinson-Foster, who conducted the contentious chant at Glastonbury, British Airways suspended its sponsorship of the Louis Theroux podcast.

Following the airing of an interview with Bob Vylan’s frontman, British Airways suspended its sponsorship of the Louis Theroux podcast.

The punk duo sparked controversy this summer when they led chants of “death, death to the IDF” (Israel Defence Forces) during their BBC livestreamed set at Glastonbury Festival.

In an episode that was broadcast earlier this week, frontman Bobby Vylan, also known as Pascal Robinson-Foster, said he was “not regretful” of the chant and would “do it again tomorrow.”

British Airways has now suspended its advertising on the podcast, stating the content “breaches” its sponsorship policy, the Jewish News first reported.

Our involvement with the series has now been ended, according to a BA spokesperson who spoke to the PA news agency. We’re appreciative that this was brought up, as the content clearly violates our sponsorship guidelines for politically sensitive or contentious subjects.

We are looking into how this happened, and we and our third-party media agency have procedures in place to prevent these incidents.

Avon and Somerset police opened an investigation into the group after their June performance, which included a performance at a German music venue, a concert at a German venue, and their US tour. Following demands from Jewish leaders and MPs to axe the show, the group recently had to cancel two UK shows due to “political pressure,” including a Manchester date.

The band has benefited from the band’s support, despite criticism, and their album Humble As The Sun rose again in the charts over the summer months thanks to the band’s loyal and resurrected supporters.

Its debut album, We Won’t Go Quietly 2025, debuted at number one both in the UK hip hop and R&amp, B album charts.

When Theroux questioned whether Vylan would continue to play the chant, he replied, “Oh yeah. What if I went to Glastonbury once more tomorrow, I would definitely do it.

“I don’t regret it,” I said. Tomorrow, twice on Sunday, I would do it. I don’t regret it at all, like the criticism I’ve received as a result. It is a minimum. In comparison to what Palestinians are going through, it is not significant.

If that is what I can do, and if I can get Palestinian friends and people who have fled their homes and have lost family members in double digits, they can chant, “Yo, my chant, I love it,” Or it blew my mind, or whatever.

Brentford condemn Liverpool to fourth straight Premier League loss

With a 3-2 defeat at Brentford, champions Liverpool ended their miserable run of form in London for the fourth time in a row in the Premier League.

After five minutes, Arne Slot’s stumbling side lost ground when Dango Ouattara headed in following a long throw and Kevin Schade made it 2-0.

In stoppage time, Milos Kerkez scored his first goal for Liverpool from Conor Bradley’s cross.

However, the anticipated second-half siege by Liverpool was a failure, and on the hour mark, Igor Thiago restored Brentford’s two-goal lead from the penalty spot.

Liverpool had already come away with a late goal thanks to Mohamed Salah’s clinical finish in the 89th minute.

Liverpool have lost four straight league games, three of which were played in London after defeats at Chelsea and Crystal Palace, for the first time since 2021.

On 15 points, they are currently sixth in the table, four points clear of leaders Arsenal, who could increase that lead when they host Crystal Palace on Sunday.

In a two-game win, Brentford moved up to 10th place, two points clear of Liverpool.

Fans at Brentford make fun of Sloth, the manager of Liverpool

The home fans’ chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” and “you’re getting sacked in the morning” made a point, but the impression that Liverpool’s title defense was dying was palpable.

They frequently lacked confidence in Brentford and appeared fragile at the back. Despite scoring a fine late goal to end a more than a month-long run without a goal in the Premier League, questions about Salah’s lack of impact will continue.

On a chilly night in southwest London, Slot’s side was caught cold by Brentford’s threat from long throws, which couldn’t have escaped Slot’s attention.

When Kristoffer Ajer flicked his long delivery into the box, Ouattara brilliantly reacted by volleying past Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Florian Wirtz and Cody Gakpo gave Liverpool chances, but they struggled to win them over and were undone as halftime approached. Schade was able to escape after Mikkel Damsgaard’s excellent long pass from Mamardashvili.

Despite fierce Brentford protests about an infringement, Kerkez fired home from close range in stoppage time.

After a lengthy VAR check, referee Tim Robinson awarded a spot-kick to Brentford, who had earned a penalty when Virgil van Dijk clipped Ouattara’s foot on the edge of the area. Thiago coolly slotted his shot down the middle.
