Who: Paris Saint-Germain vs Tottenham Hotspur
What: UEFA Super Cup
Where: Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Italy
When: Wednesday, August 13 at 9pm (19:00 GMT)
How to follow: We’ll have all the build-up on Al Jazeera Sport from 5pm (15:00 GMT) in advance of our live text commentary stream.
The first major trophy of the season is up for grabs and UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain will be targeting a fourth title in the calendar year when they face Europa League champions Tottenham Hotspur.
Luis Enrique’s Parisians swept all before them on home soil and in Europe last year, although success wasn’t to follow on the global stage in the summer.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank inherits a side that secured their first European trophy in more than four decades. The north Londoners, however, finished only one place above the relegation zone in the English Premier League.
Al Jazeera Sport takes a closer look at the match being played at the home of Italian side Udinese.
The competition pits the winners of the previous season’s UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League competitions.
PSG hammered Inter Milan 5-0 in the final of last season’s UEFA Champions League.
French teenage sensation, Desire Doue, scored twice and provided an assist as the Italians were swept aside in Munich.
Tottenham overcame Manchester United 1-0 in the final of the UEFA Europa League.
Brennan Johnson scored the only goal of the game in the first half. It wasn’t enough to save Ange Postecoglu’s job as manager, as the Australian was sacked two weeks later following the 17th-place finish in the Premier League.

PSG sealed the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season by an incredible 19 points – despite easing off for the final three-winless matches.
The Parisians also sealed the French Cup, beating Reims 3-0, a week before the Champions League final.
Following their treble, PSG had the chance to follow in the footsteps of Manchester City, who lifted five trophies in a calendar year in 2023.
Pep Guardiola’s side followed up the domestic and European treble with wins in the Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup (CWC) that year.
PSG’s chance to replicate that unique achievement was ended by a shock 3-0 defeat by unfancied Chelsea in the final of this year’s expanded CWC.

Spanish giants Real Madrid beat Italian side Atalanta 2-0 in the final in Monaco last year.
Real were the Champions League holders, having overcome Germany’s Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final the previous season.
Atalanta also topped a German side in the Europa League final the year before, as they beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0.
Yes. The Spanish giants’ victory against Atalanta in 2024 was a record-extending sixth Super Cup victory. It was also the fifth time in 11 years that Los Blancos lifted the trophy.

Both finalists have already qualified for this season’s UEFA Champions League based on their European victories last season.
UEFA retains the official trophy, but a replica, alongside 40 gold medals, are presented to the winners to keep.
The winners will receive a cheque for 5 million euros ($5.8m) in prize money.
The runners-up don’t fare too badly, receiving 4 million euros ($4.64m).

Midfielder Joao Neves is suspended following his red card in the FIFA World Cup final defeat by Chelsea.
Conversely, Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez were both suspended for that final but are free to return for this match.
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been left out of the squad amid increasing reports he will leave the club.
PSG named its squad on Tuesday. Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, who recently joined from Lille for just more than 40 million euros ($46.4m), was included along with backup goalie Matvei Safonov.
James Maddison tore his ACL in the preseason friendly with Newcastle United and is now set to miss most of the forthcoming campaign.
Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin and Dominic Solanke all remain sidelined, while Destiny Udogie is also a doubt.
Spurs last week waved goodbye to their captain, Son Heung-min, who joined Major League Soccer side Los Angeles.
Chevalier; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Nuno Mendes; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia
Vicario; Pedro Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Bentancur, Palhinha, Sarr; Johnson, Richarlison, Kudus

The fallout between the Beckhams and their eldest son Brooklyn has reached a new level.
On 2 August, Brooklyn and his wife of three years, Nicola Peltz, renewed their wedding vows – and they didn’t invite a single member of his family in a brutal snub.
Not only were his parents David and Victoria absent on the day, but so too were his three siblings Cruz, Harper and Romeo, as well as his grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, and UK-based friends. It’s thought that the first everyone knew about the service was when they read about it in media reports. It comes after the couple snubbed dad David’s 50th birthday celebrations.
Following the ceremony, Nicola took to Instagram to share plenty of photos from the day – and it seemed to include some telling barbs directed at the Beckhams…

The most obvious snub was the fact that the Beckham family were seemingly not even invited to the ceremony. At the time, David, Victoria and their three younger children – Romeo, Cruz and Harper, were enjoying the annual summer holiday on a yacht in Europe. Tellingly, none of the family have ‘liked’ Brooklyn and Nicola’s Instagram posts marking the occasion – and fans have been quick to question their absence on the social media site.
“Heartbreaking for his parents,” one follower wrote, while a second added: “The fact that none of Brooklyn’s family were there or have like this post ..speaks volumes ..x.” A third said: “This comes across as spiteful.”

Nicola chose to wear a reworked version of her mother’s 1980s wedding dress for the renewal ceremony. The upcycled dress featured an off-the-shoulder neckline, puff sleeves trimmed with floral appliqués, and a corseted bodice.
Of course, rumours of a fallout between Victoria and her daughter-in-law began when Nicola didn’t wear a wedding dress designed by Victoria for her wedding in 2022, opting instead for a Valentino gown.
Not long after their April wedding, Nicola told Variety that there was no clash over the wedding dress whatsoever, despite the persistent rumors.
“I was going to [wear Victoria Beckham ] and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realized that her atelier couldn’t do it, so then I had to pick another dress. She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that,” she told the outlet at the time.

While David and Victoria were thousands of miles away on the day of the vow renewal, Nicola’s own father Nelson Peltz took on a starring role.
Photos show the 83-year-old billionaire actually officiating the ceremony, which was held on his sprawling estate in Westchester County.
It was a poignant message to David, not least because Brooklyn failed to attend any of his father’s 50th birthday celebrations in May. He also didn’t send either his mum or dad a happy birthday on social media – in stark contrast to a post Brooklyn shared recently for his father-in-law, which included the message: “Happy birthday Nelson x We love you.”
A source told The Sun: “This was the final kick in the teeth for David and Victoria. Seeing Nelson having such a pivotal role at the ceremony was heartbreaking for David especially. Not one member of the 30-plus extended family knew about the wedding, or were invited. His grandparents are devastated too as Brooklyn has always been so close to them.”
Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola, 30, posted multiple romantic carousel posts on Instagram on 11 August, revealing what their ceremony looked like for the first time.
In the first series of photos, which they shared as a joint post, the couple included the caption “only love” – something that raised eyebrows amongst fans given the entire Beckham family’s absence on the day. “Imagine being the parents of Brooklyn and seeing this, so heartbreaking,” one follower noted.
In one of the posts, Nicola shared some photos with family and loved ones from the intimate ceremony, tagging her brother Bradley Peltz and posing with her parents, Nelson and Claudia Peltz. “This day meant so much to us,” she wrote. Once again, there was no mention of the Beckham family. “Its missing Brooklyn’s family. And you know it,” one follower remarked.
In total Nicola has shared six reels of photos from the day – including images from the afterparty.
Many fans are speculating that the snub actually sends a tragic message and signals Brooklyn’s decision to quit the Beckham family in favour of Nicola and her loved ones.
A source told the Sun: ‘It feels cruel and spiteful. This is no longer a game. It has gone beyond all that. This is a family who feel they have lost their precious boy – and see no way back.
“Honestly, they are now questioning why he even wants to keep the ‘Beckham’ surname – will he revert to Peltz? August 2nd 2025 – is this the day Brooklyn formally declared himself no longer a part of the Beckham family? It certainly feels like it.”

Maha Ali was determined to one day become a journalist and report on events in Gaza. Now she and other students have just one ambition: finding food as hunger ravages the Palestinian enclave.
As war rages, she is living among the ruins of the Islamic University, a once-bustling educational institution that, like most others in Gaza, has become a shelter for displaced people.
“We have been saying for a long time that we want to live, we want to get educated, we want to travel. Now we are saying we want to eat,” the 26-year-old honours student said.
Ali is part of a generation of Palestinians in Gaza – from primary school through university students – who say they have been robbed of an education by nearly two years of Israeli air strikes that have destroyed the enclave’s institutions.
More than 61,000 people have been killed by Israel’s war on Gaza, according to Gaza health authorities. Much of the enclave, which suffered from poverty and high unemployment even before the war, has been demolished.
Palestinian Minister of Education Amjad Barham accused Israel of carrying out systematic destruction of schools and universities, saying 293 of 307 schools have been destroyed completely or partially.
“With this, the occupation wants to kill hope inside our sons and daughters,” he said.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said, according to the latest satellite-based damage assessment in July, 97 percent of educational facilities in Gaza have sustained some level of damage with 91 percent requiring major rehabilitation or complete reconstruction to become functional again.
“Restrictions by Israeli authorities continue to limit the entry of educational supplies into Gaza, undermining the scale and quality of interventions,” it said.
Those grim statistics paint a bleak future for Yasmine al-Za’aneen, 19, sitting in a tent for the displaced and sorting through books that have survived Israeli strikes and displacement.
She recalled how immersed she was in her studies, printing papers, finding an office and fitting it with lights.
“Because of the war, everything was stopped. I mean everything I had built, everything I had done. Just in seconds, it was gone,” she said.
There is no immediate hope for relief or a return to the classroom.
Israel plans a new Gaza offensive, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that he expected to complete “fairly quickly”, as the UN Security Council heard new demands for an end to the suffering in the Palestinian enclave.
Saja Adwan, 19, an honours student at the al-Azhar Institute who is living in a school turned shelter with her family of nine, recalled how the building where she once learned was bombed.
Her books and study materials are gone. To keep her mind occupied, she takes notes on the meagre educational papers she has left.
“All my memories were there – my ambitions, my goals. I was achieving a dream there. It was a life for me. When I used to go to the institute, I felt psychologically at ease,” she said.

Peter Andre’s wife Emily MacDonagh said she is keen for the pair to spend more time together amid their hectic family life. The couple, who married in 2015, have a busy household consisting of the two of them, their three children together, and Peter’s daughter Princess Andre.
In an honest admission about their relationship, Emily, 35, discussed the relatable realities of trying to have quality time together, while juggling family life and their careers.
“It’s something we have to make an effort to do and if I’m honest, we should do it more,” she told Heat Magazine.
“We always say we ought to try and go for dinner once every two weeks, and it happens but just not that frequently.
“But, we still try and make time for each other within our routine and working week.
“So, every night at home, we will sit together and watch TV, or have a conversation, just us, no distractions.”
The doctor said as well as time together at home, they also try to have an annual holiday to Cyprus.
“Obviously, it’s where Pete’s family’s from and I love the kids going back there. It’s their heritage,” she added.
Peter, 52, and Emily are parents to; Amelia, 11, Theo, eight, and 16-month-old Arabella.
As well as Princess, the Mysterious Girl hitmaker has 20-year-old son Junior with his ex-wife Katie Price, who lives with his girlfriend.
Commenting on juggling their family dynamic with their careers, the doctor added: “I do my best. You’re just trying to juggle everything, but I think everyone does.
“A lot of it, for me, is about accepting that and going, ‘That’s alright, I can’t do everything perfectly.’ It took me a while because I’m a horrible perfectionist. . It’s not a very good trait of mine.”
Having made a mistake regarding one of her children’s PE days at school recently, she added: “You have to accept your limitations and know you’re never going to do it perfectly. You can only ever do your best.”
Unlike Junior and Princess, the pair’s three children are kept away from the public eye and do not feature in Peter’s eldest daughter’s new ITV2 reality show, The Princess Diaries.
The 18-year-old has been giving fans an insight into her life as an influencer, and an aspiring businesswoman.
During the episodes, she also opens up about growing up with famous parents.
In one admission, the star admitted that she wished her childhood was “happier”, and revealed she had a counsellor to help with some issues.
“I did have a counsellor, I do still see her every now and then,” she told viewers. “But I don’t feel like I can really talk, so I just write everything down in my notes.
