Kano Government Clarifies Appeal Court Ruling on Emirship Dispute

The government of Kano State has refuted claims that the Court of Appeal’s decision regarding the emirship dispute has been overturned. &nbsp,

The court’s decision to grant a stay of execution, which upheld the Kano Emirate Council Law of 2019 and reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano, was clarified by the attorney general and commissioner for justice, Haruna Isa Dederi.

Dederi addressed journalists in Kano, saying that the Court of Appeal’s stay of execution was a common judicial procedure. The Supreme Court’s final decision is not overturned, but rather the status quo is maintained.

Alhaji Aminu Baba Dan’Agundi, a steadfast supporter of the deposed 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, filed an appeal to the Supreme Court.

Residents were reassured by the government that Sanusi II’s reinstatement is still valid despite the appeal process.

The Court of Appeal’s decision is still in effect and still in effect. Dederi emphasized that the Supreme Court alone has the authority to overturn it.

The government expressed concern over what it termed misleading reports that were intended to confound Kano residents.

Dederi urged the public to disprove any fabricated accounts that suggested the emirship ruling had been overturned.

“We are committed to following legal and due process.” According to him, “our legal team is carefully reviewing the most recent ruling to decide what to do next.”

The Kano people were urged by the government to continue practicing law and refrain from spreading false information.

Tinubu Not Worried About 2027 Election — Presidency

The Presidency clarified that President Bolubu is currently concentrating his efforts on improving Nigerians’ lives, not on influencing the country’s political future. &nbsp,

Sunday Dare, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, clarified in a statement on X on Friday that the president’s accomplishment would be how he had been able to promote economic development at the end of his presidency.

In the country, where political unrest is roiling, and economic hardship is growing, Dare’s statement comes.

As former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai decamped from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), efforts to form a coalition that could challenge Tinubu in 2027 are in high gear.

President Tinubu stated in the statement that he was not concerned about the upcoming election. He worries about Nigerians’ ability to share their wealth.

He worries about whether the changes he has in place will have the necessary effects. He is concerned about what ultimately happens to this nation’s economy. That is the main topic. Our foreign reserves have increased, they say. Inflation has decreased, too. Our trade surplus has increased.

“We’ve seen imports decrease while exports increase.

“We’ve seen the investments that attracted more than $50 billion,” he said. Prices are slipping, too.

“He has continued to make the decisions he has made, and you have clear data, and you have a president who is clearly in the driver’s seat.”

“And I believe that he is not currently really in favor of the upcoming election.

At the conclusion of his first term, he can look on and say, “I have had an impact on the lives of Nigerians. I’ve stabilized this country’s economy.

Tinubu reiterated his commitment to running a government that pays attention to the needs of Nigerians as hardship shakes the nation.

He informed the bishops that he had made a difficult decision by removing petroleum product subsidies while receiving the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) on Friday.

He emphasized the fierce competition between the petroleum sector’s operators, the farmers’ plentiful harvests, and the country’s low commodity prices, adding that there are investments being made.

Trump Weighs Travel Ban On 41 Countries

As part of a new ban, the Trump administration is considering imposing severe travel restrictions on citizens of 41 nations.

A list of 41 countries, broken up into three distinct groups, is listed on the list, according to a Reuters quoting sources and an internal memo from Saturday.

A full visa suspension would apply to the first group of ten nations, which includes, among others, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Cuba, and North Korea.

In the second group, five nations, including Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, and South Sudan, would be subject to partial suspensions that would have an impact on tourist, student, and other immigrant visas, with some exceptions.

If their governments “do not make efforts to address deficiencies within 60 days,” the memo stated that a total of 26 countries, including Belarus, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan, would be considered for a partial suspension of U.S. visa issuance.

Under the condition of anonymity, a U.S. official warned that the list might change and that it was still under the administration’s control, including Marco Rubio, the secretary of state.

China Also Calls For “Dialogue” To End US Trade Tensions

The decision recalls President Donald Trump’s first-term travel ban on seven predominantly Muslim countries, which underwent numerous iterations before the Supreme Court upheld it in 2018.

On January 20, Trump issued an executive order mandating increased security screening for foreigners entering the country to identify threats to national security.

A list of nations that should be partially or completely suspended from travel by March 21 was ordered by that order, which mandated that several cabinet members submit a list of nations for which travel must be partially or fully suspended because their “vetting and screening information is so deficient.”

Trump’s executive order forms part of a wider immigration crackdown that he launched at the start of his second term.

Africa’s global bank, United Bank for Africa, through its UBA Foundation, has been spreading joy across Africa for many years as they continue to give back to the underprivileged in the communities in which they operate.

At the UBA Foundation gardens in Lagos, where the bank is headquartered, a lights up ceremony was held to mark the start of the festive season. The garden lights were activated by UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr Kennedy Uzoka, joined by other key management staff and some bank customers.

Uzoka, who is also the chairman of the UBA Foundation, emphasised that giving back was the main tenet of the UBA Foundation. He said, ‘We have over the years, engaged in various activities aimed at appreciating our host communities all around Africa and especially in countries where we operate and so for us, these lights symbolise hope for the future and all the goodness it will bring into people’s lives.

‘it is hard to believe that we have been in this pandemic for almost two years. People have lost friends and family members, and businesses decimated by the effects of the pandemic. There has been a general feeling of hopelessness, but we desire to fill people’s lives with hope once again.’ Continued Uzoka.

The UBA Foundation has been very active in combatting the spread of Covid -19 across Africa as the bank did not waste any time at the start of the pandemic, donating over $14m  to its communities across Africa to support the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year, the Foundation will be feeding tens of thousands of people across Africa through its annual Foodbank initiative. Food, hygiene products and other gifts items are handed over to those who have less, especially during the festive season.

The CEO, UBA Foundation, Mrs Bola Atta, said that the light-up ceremony was important for the Foundation, adding: “This goes beyond lighting up the Marina and adorning the streets with beautiful colours. It reminds us as an institution of our promise to continue to touch lives and treat our communities with kindness. We are living in challenging times and a little gesture to put a smile on even one face goes a very long way. We should all endeavour to do whatever we can, within our power, to uplift others.”
