Fifa to introduce Women’s Club World Cup in 2028

Images courtesy of Getty

Starting in 2028, Fifa will launch a Women’s Club World Cup competition.

The organization’s governing body will also hold its first global women’s football competition starting in 2026, the Women’s Champions Cup.

Six teams will compete in the Champions Cup, with the exception of the Club World Cup, which will take place annually.

The Fifa Council on Wednesday afternoon officially approved plans to start a 16-team Club World Cup, which was originally scheduled to begin in 2026.

Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, stated: “Women’s football has reached new heights at the national-team level, and now it’s time for global competitions that showcase the best clubs from around the world.

What will the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup look like?

16 teams from all six confederations will compete in the Club World Cup, including Oceania, Africa, Asia, North America, South America, and Europe.

Thirteen clubs, including five from Europe, will be guaranteed entry into the competition, and three more spots will be awarded through a “play-in” route, which will allow the winners of one-legged knockout matches to advance.

A group-stage round, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final will be the only events that will be part of the competition once more. All games will take place in locations that are not offensive.

Fifa will also discuss prize money and potential special changes to transfer windows if the competition coincides with the Club World Cup, as well as the host’s appointment and venue selection.

Clubs hoping to compete in the competition are also likely to have minimum standards introduced.

Fifa wants to encourage the expansion of women’s club football, which will lead to more competitive matches on a global scale.

In response to ongoing concerns about the welfare of players, Fifa’s sources claim that the game’s launch was delayed so that more time could be spent discussing the match schedule.

An annual global competition will be held by Fifa in an effort to help clubs maximize their commercial opportunities, which will run concurrently with the Club World Cup.

The first two editions of the Champions Cup will feature seedings for each of the six teams that will be competing against each other.

In round one of the preliminary stage, winners from Asia and Oceania will face the winners of round two, which will take place in Africa.

The women’s Champions League winners will face the winner of round two on Wednesday, January 28, in the semi-finals.

In the other semi-final, the Concacaf and Copa Libertadores Femenina champions will square off against one another.

The final stages of the competition will be decided in June in either Europe, North America, or South America.

On Sunday, February 1, the final and a third-place playoff will take place.

The Club World Cup will begin in 2027 and 2029, with the next two Champions Cup competitions taking place in 2027 and 2029.

The global tournaments take place when?

Uefa Women’s European Championship takes place on July 20, 2025.

Fifa Women’s Champions Cup will take place on January 20, 2026.

Fifa Women’s Champions Cup is held in January 2027.

BBC star accuses Matt Lucas of offensive behaviour towards sign language interpreter

Following the comic’s public apology to an actress, a radio host has attacked Little Britain star Matt Lucas’ alleged behavior.

Nihal Arthanayake, a comedian for BBC One, claimed the comedian “took the p***” out of a British sign language interpreter. The DJ, age 53, took to Instagram to criticize Matt’s alleged actions and made a statement on social media. After Matt had compared her to Little Britain’s fictional character Vicky Pollard, he had apologised to Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things.

One of the names Millie Bobby Brown mentioned to her on social media and in the press was Matt Lucas, according to Nihal. I therefore decided to share a brief account of Matt Lucas with you.

The sign language interpreter was allegedly made fun of by the 51-year-old while performing at the 2024 British Book Awards. I merely wanted to share a short excerpt from the British Book Awards last year, when Matt Lucas decided it would be funny to remove the British sign language interpreter from the stage,” Nihal said.

Matt Lucas’ ostensible actions have drawn criticism (BBC) for him.

“It felt so uneasy being there. Anyway, I went on stage while I was presenting the award, and I was first asked by the British sign language interpreter, “How do you sign Matt Lucas is a w***er?” You can imagine how the audience responded. Ricky Gervais and other people liked the post, too.

However, some people made comments encouraging Matt’s support. Rob Rinder was one of them when he wrote, “Respect you Nihal, I know you care about fairness a lot. After watching the clip, it appears to me that Matt’s joke appeared to be well received by both the audience and the BSL signer. There doesn’t appear to be any beating or cursing. Kritik can be learned, but it must be fair. This is not, in my opinion, “.” He continued, “I would have assumed that Mr. Lucas’s persistent support for Arsenal would be a significant complaint.” That qualifies as a “hate crime x”

Matt made up his mind earlier this week after Millie called him out. An image of her with her blonde hair tied up in a messy bun and a pink tracksuit and silver hoops had been captioned by him. He remarked, “No, but yeah, but.”

He apologized and wrote, “Dear Millie, I just saw your post and wanted to respond, and give some context,” after Millie called him out. I co-wrote and appeared in a sketch show called Little Britain almost 25 years ago. In the photo where you had blonde hair and wore a pink top, I pointed out the similarity by posting one of her catchphrases, and the character in it was called “Vicky Pollard” who had blonde hair and always wore a pink top.

He continued, saying that he was mortified, adding that he was “two-for-all” indifferent because of how well-versed he was. If I had anticipated it would have upset you, I would not have posted it, so I apologize. Matt x”.

Greek government to face no-confidence vote over 2023 deadly train crash

Days after protesters demanded political accountability, the government’s opposition parties in Greece have moved to a no-confidence vote against it.

On Friday, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of the nation to demand justice for the victims of the crash. The disaster claimed the lives of 57 people, mainly students.

The socialist PASOK party’s leader, Nikos Androulakis, claimed on Wednesday that the motion was filed because of the government’s “criminal incompetence.”

Syriza, New Left, and Course of Freedom were the only left-wing organizations that backed the decision. On Friday, there will be a vote.

It would threaten the country’s political stability, according to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, whose government currently holds 156 of the 300 seats in parliament.

In this uncertain environment, Mitsotakis told the legislature, “I have an obligation to keep the country steady and safe.”

He claimed that the opposition was spreading “storms of misinformation.”

According to Mitsotakis, “there never was a cover-up,” referring to the claims as a “colourful collection of myths, fantasies, and lies.”

A freight train traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki collided with a train near Larissa on February 28, 2023, causing a rail accident.

Without sounding an alarm, the two trains had traveled miles on the same track toward one another. The accident was caused by human error and malfunctioning equipment.

Opposition parties claimed that Greece’s railways were underfunded and accident-prone because the government had ignored repeated warnings and signs.

The government has also been criticized by the relatives of the crash victims for failing to launch or support an investigation into political responsibility.

The Air and Rail Accident Investigation Authority (HARISA) reported last week that chronic safety issues that needed to be fixed to stop the crash from occurring again.

Parliament approved on Tuesday to launch an investigation into whether senior official Christos Triantopoulos, who arrived at the scene of the accident after the accident, was responsible for the site’s bulldozing, which resulted in the destruction of significant evidence.

Triantopoulos, who resigned on Tuesday, denied any of the allegations and claimed to be in charge of helping people.

Opponents in the country claim that the government tried to conceal evidence despite the government refuting these claims. However, opinion polls indicate that the majority of Greeks believe this.

New strategy for women’s and girls’ football launched by IFA

Eye-Press

One of the main goals of the Irish FA’s new five-year strategy for women’s and girls’ football in Northern Ireland is to include infrastructure, accessibility, and player pathways.

The new strategy will serve as the “blueprint” for the sport going forward, according to Angela Platt, director of women’s football at the IFA.

According to the association, the new strategy, which includes “five key pillars,” took 15 months to implement.

  • Greater accessibility for women and girls in Northern Ireland through grass roots football and the common game.
  • Improve the club infrastructure and increase competition, respectively.
  • Young players’ pathways to success, starting at the youth level up to senior national team.
  • People development: creating, developing, and maintaining a skilled workforce, both professional and volunteer, to advance the game.
  • Continue to raise profile and visibility as the women’s game gains more followers and support.

According to Platt, the previous five-year strategy “built a really strong foundation,” and the new strategy will aim to carry that forward.

The Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL) and Northern Ireland Women’s Football Association (NIWFA), according to Platt, will “invest our resources collectively” in order to keep the domestic leagues growing.

She claimed that Northern Ireland’s “real focal point” is to strengthen the club infrastructure to increase competition in the domestic leagues.

13 players from Northern Ireland’s women’s premiership squad for the Euro 2022 finals played football there.

With the majority of Tanya Oxtoby’s squad now pursuing their trade in England or Scotland, that number has since decreased to just six for the Nations League games in February.

When questioned about whether the Women’s Premiership is evolving into more of a development league to prepare players for moves across the water, she claimed that the IFA and NIFL were working together to “review the women’s football pyramid.”

She continued, “That is one of the priorities we are really focusing on this year.”

“I think it’s important to say that those players who are in higher performance environments are benefiting from having them exposed to higher levels of competition.”

Angela Platt and Tanya OxtobyEye-Press

According to Platt, participation rates have increased since Euro 2022, and there are now 11, 441 players registered, up from just 1600 in 2018.

She continued, “The National Training Centre is” pivotal because there is a wealth of talent coming through, and she particularly praised 16-year-old goalkeeper Abbie Smith, who signed a two-year scholarship deal with Manchester City.”

It’s really important for us to devote our time and effort to promoting their competitiveness, she continued. “There is a wealth of talent coming through the system.

I believe that the more opportunities there are for players to play at the highest level that is best for them.

Additionally, Platt claimed that increasing attendances was a “key priority” for both Northern Ireland’s senior team and the domestic leagues.

“I’m pleased with the results,” I declare.

Northern Ireland’s first women’s major tournament championship was held in 2022, making them the first to qualify for the European Championships.

Despite being eliminated from the Euro 2025 finals by European giants Norway, Platt expressed her satisfaction with the senior women’s team’s progress under Oxtoby.

She continued, “We don’t want it to be a one-off, and” the Euro 2022 finals were a “pinch me moments.”

She stated, “It’s my aspiration to return to the top table in the future.”

It’s no shame to lose to a team like Norway, who were significantly higher than us, because we came so close in our previous qualifying campaign.

Tanya OxtobyEye-Press

Oxtoby, who was previously Emma Hayes’ assistant manager at WSL giants Chelsea, has “wealth of experience,” according to Platt, and enjoys working with the Australian.

Kenny Shiels resigned from his position that January, and in July 2023, Oxtoby was appointed manager of Northern Ireland.

On Oxtoby, Platt praised the level of professionalism, dedication, and attention to detail that “we probably haven’t experienced before.”

“Our players have genuinely embraced that,” he said. The performance environment and culture have really changed.

Neil Gaiman labels ex babysitter ‘a fantasist’ in court documents amid sexual assault claims

After being accused of sexual assault, author Neil Gaiman claimed that his child’s former babysitter is a “fantasist who has fabricated a tale of abuse against me.”

The British author, 64, has demanded that the case against him be dropped. In the US, Scarlett Pavlovich is suing for about $700,000 ($5.6 million). According to Ms. Pavlovich, Gaiman claimed that his ex-wife, American singer Amanda Palmer, had informed her of previous allegations made by numerous other women.

The author, who is best known for writing Coraline, Stardust, Good Omens, American Gods, and other works, refuted the assertions. He claimed in court documents that “none of Pavlovich’s claims are accurate.” She allegedly fabricates a tale of abuse against me and Ms. Palmer, he added.

The claims are refuted by Neil Gaiman (WireImage).

Prior to Palmer and Gaiman announcing their divorce in 2022, Gaiman continued, claiming that the “alleged conduct claimed and described in the complaint, all allegedly occurred in New Zealand.” According to Gaiman, they engaged in “sexual activity” shortly after Ms. Pavlovich was hired to look after his son in February 2022. He claimed that the two parties had exchanged texts, and that this was mutual.

Gaiman also included a “strict confidentiality” clause in her contract with Ms. Pavlovich’s representative and named those who could be called as witnesses. The author claimed that before filing the complaint, she “engaged in a media campaign to promote her alleged claims.”

In Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and New York, Ms. Pavlovich’s lawsuits were filed. They allege that Gaiman and Palmer were negligent and that the couple broke federal human trafficking laws. In New Zealand, in 2023, Gaiman was charged with sexual assault in a police report. In the filing to the Wisconsin court, Gaiman mentions that the investigation was later dropped.

Palmer previously stated on Instagram that she would only respond to the specific allegations that have been made against me if I deny them. She continued, “My heart goes out to all survivors.”

His publisher Dark Horse Comics canceled another Anansi Boys comic book because eight allegations against Gaiman were made in New York Magazine in January. Additionally, his book Coraline’s stage adaptation in the UK was cancelled, and Sir Terry Pratchett’s estate canceled his project funding proposal for a Good Omens comic book.

Following its second series, Netflix announced that a TV series of Gaiman’s dark fantasy film The Sandman, starring British actor Tom Sturridge, will end later this year. A film adaptation of The Graveyard Book has also been reported to have been shelved, and the number of actors who are currently producing Good Omens, starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen, has been reportedly decreased in response to a Tortoise Media podcast that was conducted in July of last year.

Gaiman claimed to have read the allegations, which he denies. He added that he is still “learning” and that he is “not as thoughtful as I could or should have been.” He continued, “I’m far from the ideal person, but I’ve never engaged in sexual misconduct without consent.” Ever”.
