Hugh Jackman is facing online backlash after appearing to cosy up with longtime friend Ryan Reynolds, who is currently caught in the crossfire of a messy and very public legal saga involving his wife, Blake Lively.

Justin Baldoni and Lively, 37, recently admitted to having sexual relations with her and planning a defamation campaign against her. Since then, Baldoni, 41, has filed a countersuit, alleging that both Lively and Reynolds have insulted him. Any wrongdoing is still disputed by all sides.

Despite the controversy swirling around the couple, Jackman, 56, seemed unbothered as he posed for a cheerful snapshot alongside Reynolds and Deadpool and Wolverine producer Shawn Levy at the premiere of Lively’s latest project, Another Simple Favor. He posted the image to Instagram with the simple caption: “We 3. Simple as that.”

Fans reacted harshly to Jackman’s photo as they cautioned him to reconsider his friendship group, despite the warm reception from some. One follower reacted, “You look great together, but Ryan is trouble. You might want to stay away from that side for awhile.”

Another said, “You need a break more than you need if you want to keep your head above water,” the more I hear about him and Blake. Someone else said, “I love Hugh, but maybe he shouldn’t do this anymore.”

A particularly depressed fan also declared: “Very close to unfollowing HJ as well… very disappointing that he is co-signing this behavior.”

The comments, however, weren’t entirely biased. Supporters of Jackman reacted to the backlash, decrying the idea of requiring someone to cut ties over allegations that are still subject to legal scrutiny. When you don’t even know anyone in the situation you’re talking about, as one user claimed, “Telling someone to drop their friends is pretty messed up.”

In December, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, alleging numerous instances of harassment and deliberate attempts to harm her professionally. Her decision came a few months after she allegedly sought to access Baldoni’s publicist’s compromising messages in secret.

Baldoni’s legal team struck back in January with a countersuit, accusing both Lively and Reynolds of defamation. Among the filings were purported text exchanges in which Lively described Reynolds and pop star Taylor Swift as her “dragons” – a term now under intense scrutiny.

Even among her A-list friends, Lively’s public support has been noticeably muted, with many people surprised by the silence from her inner circle. Hugh Jackman’s public ties to Reynolds have become a significant issue for fans as the legal battle unfolds and the reputations of all parties involved in the dispute grow.

Bradley’s memories of Irish Cup finalists – and is he next Gerrard?

Conor Bradley, a Liverpool player, hopes his former club, the Dungannon Swifts, can claim a memorable first-place debut on Saturday after winning his first Premier League title last weekend.

Cliftonville will face the Stangmore Park outfit in Windsor Park on Saturday afternoon (14.30 BST) in the showpiece decider. The Stangmore Park outfit has never won the Irish Cup.

The 21-year-old has played under-age football for Rodney McAree’s side before and will be playing for Rodney McAree’s side at home this weekend.

Bradley, who injured for Liverpool against Tottenham on Sunday, said, “I’m really looking forward to it.”

Bradley’s appearances for the club were already limited because he had already caught Liverpool’s attention while playing for Dungannon. He continued to enjoy the experience, though.

He continued, “It was a good time there.”

“I spent 18 months or two there, and I have a lot of fond memories there. I met some really good people there.

“I adored my stay at Dungannon.” Hopefully they can win the trophy in the final and return it to Dungannon.

The Swifts’ focus on youth is once more in the spotlight as they gear up for what could be the club’s biggest day.

Former Stangmore Park manager Joe McAree and the father of Rodney McAree’s son, Rodney McAree, can still recall seeing Bradley in action for his hometown team St Patrick’s.

He said, “I went to see him one night in Omagh, and he was playing in his final two years of St. Patrick’s.”

He was a fantastic, gifted player, it was obvious.

He still strikes me as a Steven Gerrard, I believe.

After Bradley’s parents saw that game, the youngster didn’t immediately choose Dungannon.

Conor was unsure because Maiden City was closer to him and the distance was a long one.

Conor feels better than I do going to Maiden City, but thank you very much, the mother said in a phone call a few days later, along with other messages.

I almost nearly cried on the phone, to be honest.

Bradley’s arrival at Dungannon in just six months was a surprise to those still employed by the club.

However, McAree thinks there might be more to come.

He continued, “I still think he’s a Steven Gerrard.”

Murray, Nuggets defeat Clippers in Game 5; take 3-2 playoff lead

Jamal Murray scored 24 of his game-high 43 points in the second half, and the hosts Denver Nuggets pushed the Los Angeles Clippers to the brink of elimination with a 131-115 win in Game 5 of their Western Conference first-round series.

Denver have won the past two games to take a 3-2 lead in the first-round matchup. Game 6 is on Thursday night in Los Angeles.

Murray scored 11 points in a momentum-turning third quarter on Tuesday night and added 13 more in the fourth, the last on a 3-pointer with 2 minutes 13 seconds left that put the Nuggets up by 20.

Nikola Jokic had 13 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds – his third triple-double of the series – for the Nuggets, who never trailed. They led by 22 in the fourth quarter for the second straight game, but unlike Saturday, they did not give away the entire lead.

The Clippers used a 17-4 run to get within 116-107 with 4:01 left, but Aaron Gordon hit a lay-up, Murray made a free throw after a transition foul and then a fallaway jumper, and Gordon drained a 3-pointer to seal it.

Russell Westbrook, who missed Game 4 with a foot injury, scored 21 points off the Denver bench. Gordon had 23 points, Michael Porter Jr contributed 14 points, and Christian Braun had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Nuggets shot 17-for-33 (51.5 percent) from 3-point range.

Los Angeles’ James Harden was held to 11 points on 3-for-9 shooting, but Kawhi Leonard had 20 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, and Ivica Zubac added 27 points.

Porter opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and a three-point play, Murray drained one from deep and fed Westbrook for a 12-footer to make it 110-88 before Los Angeles closed within nine.

Murray and Porter hit 3-pointers to prompt a 10-2 run at the start of the third quarter, and the Nuggets went ahead 84-67 midway through the period.

The Clippers scored seven points in 43 seconds to get within 88-80, but Braun’s 3-pointer made it 99-83 heading into the fourth.

Denver won Game 4 101-99 at Los Angeles on Sunday when Gordon sensationally dunked the ball at the buzzer.

Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers clinch series

The Indiana Pacers and the Boston Celtics became the latest teams to book their places in the second round of the NBA playoffs on Tuesday as the Detroit Pistons thwarted the New York Knicks to keep their postseason hopes alive.

In Indianapolis, the Pacers battled back from a 20-point deficit and then rallied again in overtime to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks 119-118 and seal a 4-1 victory in their NBA Eastern Conference duel.

The reigning NBA champions Celtics had an easier time of it as they overpowered the Orlando Magic with a series-clinching 120-89 victory at Boston’s TD Garden.

The Knicks, leading their series 3-1, missed the chance to join Boston and Indiana in the second round after losing 106-103 to Detroit at Madison Square Garden.

The Pacers advanced to an Eastern Conference semifinal series with top seeds Cleveland after pulling off a remarkable overtime Houdini act.

The Pacers trailed 118-111 with 40 seconds remaining but launched an 8-0 run that culminated with Tyrese Haliburton’s driving layup to clinch victory with 1.3 seconds left on the clock.

A late blunder by Milwaukee’s Gary Trent Jr, who fumbled a wide-open pass to turn over possession and set up Haliburton’s winning layup, proved pivotal.

“Both teams literally left every single ounce of everything they had out there, including timeouts – nobody had anything left,” Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said.

“But you know, fortune favours the bold. And our guys were bold in the last three quarters, and we’re very grateful and thankful to be moving on.”

An Inter legend conquering the world – how Martinez’s dream came true

Have your bags already been packed, please?

Lionel Messi and Lautaro Martinez would exchange jokes whenever they got together, requesting whether his Argentina team-mate would travel to Barcelona.

With Martinez on the verge of a replacement for Luis Suarez as their top target the following season, Barca were in search of a replacement for the midfielder in the early 2020s.

Messi played a key role in the effort to bring Inter Milan to the Camp Nou throughout the entire process.

The Covid-19 pandemic eventually caused the deal to appear to be almost done, but it eventually did.

Martinez made Inter his own after five years of San Siro, scoring at least 20 goals in each of his previous four seasons and breaking one record after that.

He is currently one goal away from becoming the club’s top scorer in a single season and is now the Nerazzurri’s all-time top scorer with 18 goals, making him the first Nerazzurri player to score in five consecutive matches for the team in the competition.

Lautaro has already consolidated his place among Inter’s legends, but the 27-year-old will need more as they travel to Barcelona for the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.

He wants to win the only major trophy he still lacks, which will also demonstrate that he deserves more recognition than he has received thus far in his career.

After placing seventh in the 2024 Ballon d’Or standing, he admitted to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, “Sometimes, I do feel underrated, yes.”

He is not the only one who believes that.

The same sentiments are shared by those who have known Martinez since his first encounter with the Liniers and Racing in Argentina.

Diego Huerta, a former racing scout, told BBC Sport: “If Lautaro did the same thing for Tottenham or Manchester United, he would be talked about more.”

“I don’t believe Lautaro is to blame; rather, I believe he plays for Inter,” he continued.

He is one of their standout players and has already reached the Champions League final [against Manchester City] in 2023, but he is not in the same league as others. For instance, what he did to become the top scorer at the Copa América last year was incredible.

Getty Images

“You have to be different off it if you want to be different on the pitch,” the saying goes.

Martinez was born and raised in Bahia Blanca, a southern town known for its basketball-loving residents.

The Argentina international, like his younger brother Jano, had the potential to pursue a career in that sport, but instead chose to focus on football with his father Mario and his older brother Alan.

He has adopted the adage, “You have to be different on the pitch, you have to be different off it,” ever since making that choice.

He has always taken it seriously.

When he made his senior debut with the Liniers, he turned the ball forward at the age of 15, and scored in his very first game. However, that aspect of it wasn’t particularly impressive. The level of discipline he already displayed at the age surprised his teammates.

I used to go there to request the videotapes because there was a TV station there that broadcast our matches. He explained that I had to purchase them because they wouldn’t give them to me for free.

I had a dream to play football professionally. It’s changed now, of course, and I receive editing and delivery. Some people find my personality or thought process surprising. But it seems entirely natural to me.

No trial was required when Racing came upon him a while later; hence, they immediately took him.

He is one of the most amazing professionals I have ever met, Huerta, who is currently employed by Cerro Porteno in Paraguay as a technical secretary.

He had the traits of a very strong mentality, a very serious attitude, and a great commitment to work, from the so-called “invisible trainings” to taking care of himself: he didn’t smoke, drink alcohol, or drink Coca-Cola.

Are there really that many forwards in the world who are superior to him?

Martinez watched the 2014 World Cup from the famed club dormitory at Casa Tita Mattiussi after arriving from Liniers earlier that year.

He reflected on that experience in the second edition of a book series called Pelota de Papel, which features stories by authors like Pablo Aimar, Juan Pablo Sorin, Javier Saviola, and Jorge Sampaoli.

Martinez was unaware of this at the time, but four years later he would make his international debut. With his nation, he has won two Copa America titles and a World Cup.

I used to sit and reflect on what it would be like to make it to the first team in my room at Racing’s dormitory, which is one of my favorite locations in the world. However, I kept thinking that I would never emulate the idols I admired. He wrote that “Licha ‘ Lopez, Roger Martinez, Gustavo Bou, and Diego Milito are real players.”

“Every time I considered playing, the first thing that came to mind was that I would have to return to my hometown soon and never get a spot on the team.” I’ve always wanted to be like them.

There is probably a child who believes he doesn’t belong in the team in one of those same rooms in that gorgeous dormitory today. When you need to work even harder, work harder, eat better, sleep better, and, most importantly, keep dreaming, do it at that exact moment. Your dream may come true because this is more than just a story.

Martinez did as well.

He joined Racing’s first team in 2015, joined Racing as the club’s most expensive transfer ($31 million) in 2018, and became the first foreigner to score 150 goals for Inter. He left in 2015 as the club’s most expensive transfer ($23 million).

He may still seem unappreciated, but that may soon change.

Are there really that many forwards in the world who can be decisive on the pitch, decisive off it, and true to their game like Lautaro? After Inter eliminated Bayern Munich from the Champions League, La Gazzetta dello Sport reportedly asked the team.
