PSG pass masters make Rice and Arsenal’s fears come true

In his final message, Arsenal assembled in a huddle before facing Paris St-Germain, who presented the formidable threat signaling the danger. Declan Rice captured the spirit and signaled the danger.

As their warm-up session before the Champions League semi-final first leg at Emirates Stadium came to an end, Rice remarked, “If we don’t have the ball, we die.”

Arsenal are still in a tie, but they are undoubtedly struggling to stay alive as they trail 1-0 heading into the Paris return, primarily because they were unable to follow Rice’s instructions in the crucial opening stages.

An extravagant display of fireworks and pyrotechnics set the stage for Arsenal’s first Champions League semifinal match in 16 years, all set against a massive banner that read “make it happen.”

PSG orchestrated it, exactly as Rice so fervently feared, and it was exactly how it was done.

The 26-pass move culminated with Ousmane Dembele’s fourth-minute finish over Arsenal keeper David Raya from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s delivery. Rice’s warning delivered in the most agonizing manner, as if it were PSG in a microcosm.

In the first 26 minutes, PSG’s team had a total of 71.6% of possession, which set the stage for the game’s return to Paris for next Wednesday’s second leg, which they will take advantage of by returning a bucket of ice cold water over what had been a white-hot environment.

In Arsenal’s second half, PSG recorded a remarkable passing accuracy of 86.5%, and the ratio was 165 passes to 60 in total.

The most significant harm had been done, in fact, when Arsenal finally digested Rice’s memo.

Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal, stated: “We are disappointed with the outcome. We put a lot of effort into the game. We struggled for the first ten or fifteen minutes to establish dominance and momentum, but we were at least disappointed not to draw.

He praised Dembele’s achievement by stating, “That is always the danger.” They deserve credit. They escape a close situation. We had seven players behind the ball, all of whom were skilled. Sometimes you just have to acknowledge the individual’s talent.

As the Champions League transitioned to its new league table format and how it displayed, this PSG was different from the one that lost 2-0 in tame fashion here in October.

In the ensuing months, coach Luis Enrique has created a PSG side that is top-notch from the back, while his personal attention has benefited the most from Desire Doue’s brilliant teenager, while coaxing the most from Dembele, who flattered at Barcelona.

And in what might be the most important turning point of the era of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar, they added the young Georgian genius Kvaratskhelia to a thrilling attack.

PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma puts his thumbs upReuters

However, since then PSG have divided the Premier League elite, with Liverpool losing on penalties in the last 16 and Aston Villa advancing in the quarter-finals.

Donnarumma has played a significant role.

With crucial saves from both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard on either side of half-time, he made amends for his previous Emirates bumbling.

Arsenal will accept the hope that those chances will provide in Paris, but as they try to recover this parable, they will now have to play with seriousness against PSG. The French champions may just like that approach in those circumstances, though.

When a Video Assistant Referee checked early in the second half, Mikel Merino’s smart header was ruled out for Arsenal, there was resentment.

It was obvious why Rice once more called it right when he expressed his frustration with his midfield partner and disruptor Thomas Partey after receiving a yellow card in the comfortable second-leg win against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, which had given him the upper hand as Arsenal reeled.

Arsenal will undoubtedly find Rice’s words at the Parc des Princes to be true, but some things are easier said than done and it may already be too late to save their chances of reaching their first Champions League title since they lost to Barcelona in Paris in 2006, according to Rice.

Pakistan minister warns of possible Indian military strike in 24-36 hours

In response to an unprecedented upheaval in Indian-administered Kashmir, Pakistan’s minister for information and broadcasting claims Islamabad has “credible intelligence” that India intends to launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours.

Attaullah Tarar claimed that India had used the 26 tourists killed in the attack last week as a “false pretext” to potentially strike Pakistan in a social media post early on Wednesday.

The Indian government did not immediately comment in public on the allegations, and the minister did not provide any specific proof to support his claim.

“Any act of aggression will receive a decisive response. India will bear full responsibility for any significant regional consequences, Tarar stated in the post X.

A military incursion by India was “imminent,” according to Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday.

Islamabad is on high alert, but it won’t use its nuclear weapons if “there is a direct threat to our existence,” Asif said.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters news agency regarding Tarar’s most recent comments.

After India claimed that there were Pakistani collaborators in the April 22 attack in the mountain resort of Pahalgam, increasing tensions between the two nations.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to pursue the attackers in the country’s most deadly tourist attack in more than 20 years.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a group thought to be an offshoot of Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba, was named in a statement claiming responsibility for the attack.

Islamabad, however, has disputed any involvement in the incident and demanded a fair investigation.

Following the attack, the neighbors retaliated diplomatically by launching a number of diplomatic maneuvers, including the closure of Pakistani airspace to Indian airlines.

India also canceled its participation in the Indus River and its tributaries’ water-sharing agreement, which governs the two nations’ relationship.

The Pakistani government has stated that it is preparing legal action in Pakistan as a result of the decision made by New Delhi.

Along the Line of Control (LoC), the 740 km (460 miles) de facto border that separates Kashmir from India, international calls have been made to calm the situation.

The United States urged the two nations to work together on a “responsible solution” on Tuesday.

According to a statement from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “We are reaching out to both parties and telling them to not escalate the situation.”

Rubio also stated that he would discuss the situation with the Indian and Pakistani foreign ministers on Tuesday or Wednesday and that he would encourage other foreign ministers to do the same.

After falling short in their semi-final first leg, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says his side must “do something special in Paris.”

The Gunners must win the first leg of the second leg at the Parc des Princes next week after Ousmane Dembele’s early strike at the Emirates left them with a one-goal deficit against Paris St-Germain.

Arsenal ultimately found it frustrating at Emirates Stadium because none of their five shots were converted.

“You must do something special if you want to win the Champions League final,” the statement read. We’ll need to participate in something special there, Arteta said.

The hosts grew into the match in the opening 20 minutes, but PSG continued to be irritated by the French side’s strong defense, failing to score in a Champions League home game for the first time since February 2016.

There are many chances for us to make the final. You must do something unique in the competition to be eligible for the final, as I repeatedly say. And Paris will be the place to do it, Arteta said.

PSG are aiming for their first Champions League title while Arsenal haven’t reached the final since 2005-2006.

Luis Enrique’s side relied on Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to keep them out of trouble, as they did earlier in the campaign against Liverpool and Aston Villa.

The 26-year-old kept a clean sheet and made five saves, including crucial one-on-one stops to deny Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

We now face Donnarumma, one-on-one with two of our front players, in the end. The goal was different if it was scored. He saved like he did against Liverpool and Villa, which is what made the Champions League difference, Arteta said.

Enrique claims that the shot stopper was only carrying out his duties.

Kiss to replace Schmidt as Australia head coach in 2026

Images courtesy of Getty

In 2026, Les Kiss will take over as Australia’s head coach, leading the Wallabies to their first-ever home Rugby World Cup.

Before leading the Wallabies to the first Nations Cup of next year, Schmidt will continue in his position until the upcoming Test series against the British and Irish Lions and the Rugby Championship.

Kiss, who previously served as an Ireland assistant coach under Schmidt, will serve as the Queensland Reds’ head coach until 2026, when Rugby Australia announces an “orderly transfer” in leadership.

The “honor of a lifetime” will be led by Australian Kiss, who will become the Wallabies’ fifth head coach in seven years.

The 60-year-old said, “I’m humbled by the opportunity to lead the Wallabies as head coach from next year,” adding that it’s an “incredibly exciting time for Australian rugby.”

Joe and I have a strong relationship and a long history of working together, and I’m looking forward to building on the solid foundations he laid with the Wallabies,” said Kiss, who was formerly Ulster’s director of rugby and London Irish’s head coach.

Schmidt, a native of New Zealand, had planned to leave in October after winning the Rugby Championship, but he has since extended his stay to facilitate Kiss’ handover.

Following a turbulent start for the Wallabies, Eddie Jones became the former Ireland manager in 2023.

Before the 2023 World Cup, replacement Dave Rennie was fired following England’s quarter-final defeat in the 2019 World Cup.

Before the tournament, Jones signed a five-year deal that ran for only nine months as Australia, for the first time in their history, crashed out of the pool.

Schmidt, who has won six of his 13 matches in charge, said, “My intention to finish at the end of this year’s rugby championship has been adjusted to fit Les’ availability.”

It was crucial to coordinate with his responsibilities there because I believe he is doing a fantastic job with the Reds.

“It has certainly been a privilege to play for the Wallabies; the staff and players have worked hard, but we all know there will be a lot more work to do with the British and Irish Lions here in a few months.”

Love Island ‘signs up five of biggest stars for 10th anniversary special by ITV’

Over the summer, Love Island will be celebrating its tenth anniversary, and rumors claim that Maura Higgins will appear in an ITV special about the occasion.

Later this year, Love Island will be celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Love Island is reportedly set to celebrate its 10 year anniversary with a special documentary. Some of the show’s “biggest stars” are said to be lined-up to appear in the project to coincide with the anniversary over the summer. ITV launched the current format of Love Island in June 2015, with it a revival of the previous celebrity show of the same name that ran for just two series from 2005 until 2006.

Now preparations are said to be underway for the reboot’s tenth anniversary ahead of the occasion in less than two months. It has been reported that a documentary will air ahead of the next series of Love Island to mark the special occasion. It’s been teased that former islanders will share behind-the-scenes stories whilst looking back at footage from the show.

The Sun reported that the project is expected to adopt a format similar to Channel 4’s Gogglebox. It suggests that former islanders will look back at videos of “stand-out moments” from the eleven series that have aired since 2015.

The outlet adds that the “biggest stars” from the reality TV show’s history are set to appear in it. It named Dani Dyer, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, Maura Higgins, Olivia Attwood and Zara McDermott as expected participants in the special.

Fans can anticipate some of the people involved to share secret information, according to a source who spoke to the Sun. They added, “You can expect quite a few of them to reveal some serious inside-the-villain tales from their time in the villa.”

Love Island fans will be delighted by the return of some of the show’s most well-known stars, the source continued. Some of the most well-known couples are still together, including some of them.

The first series of the revived Love Island – initially hosted by the late Caroline Flack – aired between June and July in 2015. Ten more series have aired since then, with Laura Whitmore taking over from Caroline in 2020, before current host Maya Jama then replaced her in 2023.

Former islander Olivia was a finalist on the third series of Love Island, which aired back in 2017. She placed third with Chris Hughes on the dating show, which was won by Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay that year.

Dani is among the winners of the show, having won the fourth series beside Jack Fincham in 2018. Zara was on the same series of Love Island as them, though she was dumped from the villa after less than two weeks on the show.

Maura was on the following series, which ended up being won by Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea, and was a finalist. More recently, Ekin-Su and Davide Sanclimenti were crowned the winners of Love Island’s eighth series in 2022.

Since its launch ten years ago, Love Island has produced the spin-off All Stars, in which former islanders have to flee the villa. Ekin-Su was one of the participants in the second series earlier this year when the show first aired the following year.

PSG beat Arsenal 1-0 in Champions League semifinal first leg

In the tense opening match of the semifinal, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Arsenal 1-0 thanks to Ousmane Dembele’s early goal, which was a big step toward making it to the Champions League final.

As PSG dominated the opening moments on Tuesday, Dembele fired home from the post in the fourth minute, holding on for dear life.

After a poor start, Arsenal improved and had a Mikel Merino goal ruled out after the break, while PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made several good saves.

PSG withstanded the storm and should have had a bigger lead for the second leg, but Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos both wasted gilt-edged chances late on.

Inter Milan or Barcelona will face PSG in Munich on Wednesday, and PSG will believe a first title in the blue-riband club competition is finally in their hands.

Second-left goalkeeper Ousmane Dembele of PSG beat David Raya of Arsenal.

In the first few weeks of the league season in October, Arsenal comfortably defeated PSG 2-0 in north London, but under the leadership of Luis Enrique, the French champions have developed into a formidable force.

PSG have been the scourge of English clubs since that defeat by Arsenal, defeating Manchester City in the league, knocking out Liverpool’s last 16, and dispatching Aston Villa in a quarterfinal thriller.

PSG barely scored an impressive goal in the opening 25 minutes, their pace and movements too much for Mikel Arteta’s side, thanks to fanatical support.

When PSG struck, the pre-game pyrotechnics’ smoke was barely evaporating.

After receiving the ball on the left, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia burst into the area and let Dembele catch a pass that would allow him to sweep a shot past David Raya.

Dembele’s eighth and eleventh goalscoring appearance in the competition this season matched Kylian Mbappe’s club record of 11 goals.

Arsenal were fantastic, and things could have gotten worse. As he broke clear and Marquinhos headed a Hakimi cross straight at Raya, Leonard Trossard was charged with pulling down Achraf Hakimi.

Kvaratskhelia was Arsenal’s constant thorn in the first half, and he was yelling for a penalty as he sat on the ground after being dubious challenged by Jurrien Timber.

Before Arsenal finally started to clear their minds, Raya saved Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue.

Gabriel Martinelli was agonizingly close to scoring a cross for Bukayo Saka before Donnarumma’s low save at halftime prevented him.

Declan Rice’s in-swinging free kick was scored immediately after the break by Merino, but a drawn-out VAR check revealed he had just been offside.

When PSG’s defense sluggish, Arteta’s side briefly took control, and Donnarumma made a stunning low save to keep a Trossard shot with his fingertips.
