7 best vanilla perfumes that smell expensive according to a beauty editor – from £24

Sweet, creamy, gourmand fragrances – in particular ones containing notes of vanilla and caramel – looks set to carry on being one of the biggest perfume trend for 2025, with millions of TikTok searches for them, and a growing rise in Google searches too.

“Gourmand fragrances have been all the rage for the past couple of years, but the focus is now shifting away from sugary ‘ dessert ‘ scents towards aromas that remind us of our favourite comfort foods—like tea, coffee, marmalade on toast, and warm nutty pastries”, explains Floral Street brand founder Michelle Feeney.

But far from being saccharine, sickly concoctions more likely to attract wasps than compliments, the latest vanilla perfumes smell grown-up, luxe and sexy – if they’re formulated well. “Natural vanilla over synthetic vanilla makes a big difference to the aroma”, says Michelle. “It also really depends on what other ingredients the perfumer has woven together to create the overall perfume”.

Here are seven vanilla perfumes worth sniffing out…

7 best vanilla perfumes to buy in 2025

Phlur Vanilla Smoke Hair &amp, Body Fragrance Mist

This is a new favourite with our beauty editor (Laura Mulley)

As someone who loves both vanilla and smoky scents, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this, and I wasn’t disappointed, it’s utterly addictive. I think the smoke notes come through stronger than the vanilla ones, with distinctive hints of marshmallows toasting on a cosy campfire. I’ve had a number of compliments on it already, and it’s already become a staple on my desk, where I’ll reach for it to spritz on regularly through the day.

It’s worth noting, however, that, as it’s a body mist, it doesn’t last as long as an eau de toilette or an eau de parfum – but, at £25, that’s reflected in the price.

Ariana Grande Cloud EDP Spray

 Ariana Grande Cloud EDP Spray
With notes of pear, coconut and vanilla (Amazon)

Ariana Grande’s perfumes have been a hit even amongst fragrance snobs, and the brand calls this one “a joyful, contemporary creation inspired by optimism and hope”, with notes of lavender, pear, coconut and vanilla orchid. It currently has over 18, 000 five-star reviews on Amazon alone, with shoppers calling it light and airy, and remarking on how well it lasts.

Liberty Lbty Fragrance Vine Thief Eau de Parfum

A new scent from Liberty’s perfume range (Laura Mulley)

When this arrived, I couldn’t open it quick enough, everything about it it is stunning, from the gorgeous packaging to the juice inside. Along with cosy notes of vanilla, musk and condensed milk there’s strawberry liquor and leather, making for a really unique scent that’s powdery yet with a hint of fresh greenness. It lasts for ages on the skin, too.

Floral Street Wild Vanilla Orchid Eau De Parfum

Floral Street Wild Vanilla Orchid Eau De Parfum
With natural vanilla for a creamier scent (Floral Street)

“This is a blend of vanilla beans, jasmine, cassis, citrus, bamboo and sandalwood, offering a warm and comforting vanilla scent with a modern, unexpected edge”, says Michelle. “Its natural vanilla gives a deeper, creamier feel to the fragrance, blended with woody notes, and is a comforting and confident scent”.

New Notes Caramelo Vanilla Extrait de Parfum

laura holding New Notes Caramelo Vanilla Extrait de Parfum
A gorgeous niche scent (Laura Mulley)

This fragrance is, as its name suggests, about as lip-smacking as it gets, but it’s really well done, made with raw ingredients. As well as the vanilla in its title, there’s also notes of cotton candy, frangipane, musk and tonka bean. It smells like the most delicious, Michelin-starred dessert.

Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa ‘ 71 Perfume Mist

Laura holding Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa '71 Perfume Mist
Yours for as little as £19 (Laura Mulley)

Sol de Janeiro’s Cheirosa fragrance are all fairly sweet and caramel-ly, but ‘ 71 is the one with the strongest notes of vanilla, I find, combines here with white chocolate, sea salt, coconut blossom and toasted macadamia. It smells of summer, too, like eating ice cream on the beach. A perfume mist is also a great (and cheaper) way to try a vanilla scent if you’re unsure.

Tom Ford Vanille Fatale Eau de Parfum

Tom Ford Vanille Fatale Eau de Parfum
The ultimate luxe vanilla fragrance (Sephora)

A vanilla with a rich, woody edge thanks to notes of amber, mahogany wood and roasted barley. Like a lot of Tom Ford scents, it’s super sexy, and a little goes a long way.

Colin Jost brutally mocked on SNL for earning less than wife Scarlett Johansson

Colin Jost faced a grilling on Saturday Night Live over the weekend as his co-stars poked fun at him for earning less than his superstar wife, Scarlett Johansson.

The 42-year-old comedian was first linked to 40-year-old Marvel actress Scarlett in 2017, they married in 2020, and they welcomed a son named Cosmo in August 2021. On Saturday, Colin became the butt of a joke as he was joined by SNL co-star Mikey Day during a sketch about musical guest Lady Gaga.

In the skit in which Mikey was playing a character named Lord Gaga, he mocked Colin’s married life after he highlighted the overwhelming success of Gaga and her career. Noting her 14 Grammys and an Oscar, 44-year-old Mikey couldn’t resist firing a jab at the disparity between Colin’s earnings and that of his wife.

He quipped: “Can you imagine, Colin, a man whose wife makes more money than he”? – sparking laughter from the live studio audience. He continued to tease, asking: “Can you imagine? Oh, the shame he would feel”!.

Colin fixed a stern gaze at his co-star and then the camera, maintaining a poker face. “Imagine, Colin, if I were sitting here on television behind this desk, staring at that camera, the world staring back at me knowing that my wife’s income dwarfs my own! I would die”, Mikey continued, as Colin struggled to suppress his laughter.

“Oh, I would die! What a living nightmare! What a nightmare”! he continued, earning cheers from the audience. Mikey concluded the sketch by asking, “Oh, I’m sorry. Now tell me, what does your wife do”?

Colin has been part of the weekend sketch comedy show since 2005 and his net worth is estimated to be around $10 million (£7.7 million), while Scarlett reportedly boasts a fortune exceeding $165 million (£127 million). Over the years, Black Widow star Scarlett has been the subject of various SNL jokes, including instances where her husband was compelled to read out crude remarks about her during one of his and Michael Che’s “Weekend Update” segments in December.

During the joke swap segment, Colin recited ridiculous jibes about Scarlett – including one where he claimed he’s “eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid” – leaving the “Marriage Story” actress visibly shocked backstage. Colin later appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and confessed that his wife “was genuinely so shocked” by the segment. “I’m in trouble I think with a lot of people”, he conceded.

During a 2021 appearance on Kelly Clarkson’s talk show, Scarlett confessed that she feels anxious whenever she tunes in to see her hubby on SNL. She revealed, “I now rarely watch without having a sense of… not overwhelming panic, just like a slight underwhelming panic, because I just feel like at any moment something’s going to fall apart”, expressing her concern over the live nature of the show.

Before finding love with Colin, Scarlett was married twice. She was the wife of Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds from 2008 until 2011 – and then married French businessman Romain Dauriac from 2014 until 2017 and she shares a daughter named Rose with him who was born in 2014.

Lily Allen details whether she’s ever ‘sent a nude’ after shock split from David Harbour

Lily Allen and her pal Miquita Oliver opened up on whether they ever sent intimate images to partners.

Her candid conversation comes after Lily and David Harbour went their separate ways after Lily reportedly found Stranger Things star David’s “secret profile” on exclusive dating app Raya. The Smile singer met David, 49, on Raya in 2019, admitting that she didn’t have high expectations when she signed up to the app.

After a whirlwind romance they tied the knot in Las Vegas a year later, with an Elvis impersonator officiating the ceremony. However, their relationship reportedly came to an end in December, but the famous couple have yet to comment on the endless speculation.

On a recent episode of her Miss Me? podcast with co-host Miquita, the pals discussed messaging men and whether they’ve sent nudes to them. Lily admitted: “I’ve never sent a nude to anyone”, as Miquita added: “No, me neither” and asked: “Are we prudes? Nude prudes”?

The Alfie singer, who has two children from a previous relationship, questioned: “What’s the best response like, ‘ wow your t**s are amazing, ‘ or like a heart”? Miquita replied: “You want it to be more of a grown up sexy response. But, what would that be, what do I want”?

It comes after the duo opened up to fans about their past during a live recording of their Miss Me? podcast. Speaking during a live show last week, both Lily and Miquita were asked by an audience member if they hold grudges. Lily confirmed that she does “hold grudges”, adding: “If someone crosses me, you are done.

” I did used to scrap with people but it was related to my active addiction. I would sometimes lash out but it is not part of my life any more. “She also reportedly said during the live recording that she is” not over “the split from the actor.

Lily previously admitted she” didn’t know “who David was when they first met. Speaking on the Jonathan Ross Show, she explained:” I thought he was just like a sexy policeman from a reality TV show because he was wearing a policeman’s uniform. It was a still from Stranger Things.

“I’d never seen Stranger Things. I don’t even know what I was looking for. It was just something to do on holiday, swiping, it’s a bit of fun. When I met him I didn’t think it was going to go anywhere. He was here filming Black Widow. He was only going to be here for a couple of months. And then it did…”

Germany’s Green Party rejects Merz’s spending proposals

Germany’s Green Party has threatened to torpedo plans put forward by likely incoming chancellor Friedrich Merz to invest hundreds of billions of euros in defence and infrastructure.

Merz, whose conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) emerged the biggest in February’s legislative elections, wants in particular to relax the strict limits imposed by the “debt brake” in Germany to invest more in defence and security. His proposal comes as the country’s economy experiences prolonged stagnation and United States President Donald Trump’s direct overtures to Russian President Vladimir Putin have left Europe feeling vulnerable on security.

The proposed constitutional changes to ease strict borrowing limits in the area of defence and establish a 500-billion euro ($542bn) fund for infrastructure had been described as historic when they were presented last week.

“We will not let this happen, and we will not let Friedrich Merz and Lars Klingbeil]of the Social Democratic Party] abuse a difficult situation in European security”, Franziska Brantner, co-leader of the Green Party, told reporters on Monday.

“This is something that serves neither the country nor our interests in Europe”.

Germany’s constitutional “debt brake”, which has been the hallmark of Berlin’s fiscal policy since it was introduced by former Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2009, limits new borrowing to 0.35 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

Merz’s proposal would exempt military spending from that rule – setting no upper limit for “necessary defence spending”.

The changes would also establish the fund for infrastructure to be spent over 10 years and ease spending rules for Germany’s federal states and local government.

Merz needs the support of the Greens to get the two-thirds majority he requires in the current parliament for any constitutional changes, such as the easing of the borrowing limits.

He is attempting to rush through the changes even as he remains in talks with likely coalition partners the Social Democratic Party (SPD).

That is because in the next parliament, which convenes at the end of the month, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AFD) and the left-wing Die Linke will have more than a third of seats. They will therefore be able to block the changes.

The AFD on Monday lodged urgent legal motions with the constitutional court challenging Merz’s attempt to have the current parliament consider the spending package.

Although the Greens were in favour of reforming Germany’s strict constitutional spending limits, the changes proposed by Merz were not the ones needed, Green leader in the Bundestag, Katharina Droege, told reporters.

Merz and his partners from the SPD were creating a “treasure chest” to fund their political priorities, including tax cuts, Droege said.

“Whoever wants our approval for more investment must also show that it is really about more investment in climate protection, more investment in the economy in this country”.

Felix Banaszak, also co-chairman of the party, said that the Greens would prepare their own legislative motion on security and defence, and that the party was ready to seriously discuss security and defence capabilities in Germany.

However, he described the CDU and SPD’s manoeuvres to gain the party’s support as “blackmail”.

“The aim is to reach a common solution”, he said, adding that pressure was on Merz to consult the other parties in the Bundestag or parliament.

Reacting to the Green Party’s decision, SPD leader Lars Klingbeil said he took its concerns about changing the country’s constitution “very seriously” and promised to continue discussions to convince the Greens.

“From the conversations I had with them last night, I’m not surprised that we’re not yet on a common denominator, but the priority now is to get together and have confidential discussions”, he said.

“I think we are all aware of the importance and the potential repercussions of this decision”, he added.

Joerg Kukies, the country’s current minister of finance, said the Greens have legitimate points.

“I hope there will be more talks with the Greens to convince them to support the debt-brake reform”, he told reporters in Brussels on Monday.

After the first debate on Merz’s proposal on Thursday, the constitutional amendments are set to be voted on by Bundestag members on March 18.

Merz’s CDU and the SPD, currently in talks to form a government, need the support of the Greens to reach the two-thirds majority required in the Bundestag for the constitutional revision.
