TV presenter Helen Skelton has revealed the real reason that her family snubbed supporting her as she completed her fourth London Marathon at the weekend in an Instagram post

Helen Skelton ran her fourth London Marathon this weekend

Helen Skelton has shared the real reason her family snubbed supporting her while running the London Marathon. The TV presenter took on the gruelling race for the forth time on Sunday as she raised money for Children with Cancer UK.

She finished the intense run around the capital’s streets in an impressive time of 4:32:31. Helen proudly posed with her medal after the race as she said: “Romeo Done. Thanks for the encouragement. Thanks for coming out to cheer.” Despite her mega achievement, Helen later revealed she didn’t have her family at the finish line waiting to celebrate with her. The former Blue Peter host addressed their absence after receiving concern from fans.

In a post to her followers, she revealed that her family went to watch her footballer brother Gavin in a charity match instead. She wrote: “A lot of people asked me where my family was today… Well let’s just say the battle for favourite child continues well into our 40s… . “

Helen then shared a photo of a football match as she shared: “Standard… whole gang went to watch the real hero in our family who casually helped raise over 4k for charity in a footy match and never went on about it.

“Just got on with it. Proud sister. “

Helen did, however, receive the support of her celebrity pals. Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell commented: “Legend so good to see you.”

Giovanna Fletcher wrote: “YES!!!! Xxx.” Jake Quickenden praised: “Well in mate.” Loose Women’s Kaye Adams said: “Yay!!!!!!” Gorka Marquez gushed: “you are a legend!!! Proud of you.”

Gemma Atkinson added: “Incredible Helen!!!” Helen wasn’t the only celebrity to take part in the race as the Masked Singer host Joel Dommett had a very tricky time.

He revealed he woke up in an ambulance after he collapsed while trying to complete the annual race. Ahead of the big day, Joel shared an ambitious itinerary that showed his plan to perform stand up in Leeds on Saturday night before returning to London to take part in the marathon the next morning.

He planned to take on the race and complete it in less than three hours – before then enjoying an ice bath. The TV star also had plans to film a project on Sunday evening – but his day was thrown off schedule when things went wrong in the middle of the race.

Fans following Joel as he made progress grew concerned when they noticed his status hadn’t updated after the 15th mile. Joel later revealed that he had passed out and collapsed not long after that point and needed emergency treatment.

Taking to Instagram later on Sunday, the Masked Singer host revealed he managed to complete the race despite passing out in the middle of the race.

After forcing himself to complete the challenge, Joel wrote: “Not the race I expected! I fainted at mile 17 – don’t really remember much but I woke up in an ambulance! “

He continued: “Thanks to Frankie and Barry for being amazing. I really wanted to finish it. After a few hours my pulse was back and I got going again at a very different pace but really got to soak it all in. Proud of myself for finishing. ” Joel ultimately crossed the finish line in 6 hours, 3 minutes and 27 seconds.

Exeter suspend coaches Hunter and Hepher after record loss

Exeter have suspended head coach Rob Hunter and attack coach Ali Hepher following their record Premiership loss at Gloucester.

The pair have been stood down pending what the club describe as a “full review of the match and the 2024-25 season to date” after Chiefs’ 79-17 loss at Kingsholm.

Hunter had only been promoted to the role last month after Hepher’s demotion as the struggling side tried to turn results around.

Director of rugby Rob Baxter will oversee the club’s coaching for the remainder of the season.

After succeeding Hepher as head coach, Hunter vowed to “rip up” all areas of Exeter’s game in a bid to improve their results.

There had seemed to be some signs of recovery during Hunter’s brief tenure after a 52-38 loss at Bristol in the first game under the new set-up.

Chiefs overcame fellow strugglers Newcastle 17-15 and impressed as they ran leaders Bath close a couple of weeks ago – losing 24-26 – before Sunday’s 62-point defeat.

Exeter have won just two Premiership matches this season and lost all their Champions Cup games, including a new club-record European defeat when they lost 69-17 to Bordeaux.

The campaign has been Exeter’s worst since promotion to the English top flight in 2010, and they are second-from-bottom of the Premiership.

Former Northampton fly-half Hepher has been part of Exeter’s coaching team since Baxter took over as director of rugby in 2009, while Hunter moved to Sandy Park in 2013 after a successful spell as England Under-20s head coach.

The pair have been part of the backroom team that helped the Chiefs win two Premiership titles and the 2020 European Champions Cup as they reached six consecutive Premiership finals between 2016 and 2021.

But form has dipped in recent seasons and Hepher was removed as head coach on 20 March and tasked with overseeing the backs and attack strategy until the end of the season before switching to an academy role next term, with Hunter taking over as head coach.

The current campaign reached a nadir at Kingsholm with Exeter conceding 13 tries in a shambolic display.

Hunter, rather than director of rugby Rob Baxter, faced the media afterwards, describing the game as his “lowest point” as a coach.

“In no way at all did we have any foothold in that game – nothing really held up and we gave up momentum so easily,” he told BBC Radio Devon.

Analysis

Brent Pilnick, BBC Sport, Exeter

Just when you think this season could not get any worse for Exeter, the powers that be at Sandy Park opt for a second coaching change in as many months.

But Sunday’s loss at Kingsholm was a shambles, with defensive confusion evident from the first few minutes as Chiefs were cut open by Gloucester time and again.

Having conceded seven first-half tries, whatever was said at the interval had little effect as they let in six more after the break.

Post-match television footage of Tony Rowe angrily addressing the players in the changing room only added to the sense of anxiety surrounding the club’s fortunes.

Where Exeter go now only time will tell – they have some experienced players coming in over the summer, led by marquee Australian signing Len Ikitau.

It seems doubtful they can turn around this malaise in time for the visit of champions Northampton on 11 May, with two more games – away at Harlequins, home to Sale – to complete a torrid campaign.

Maybe turning it around for next season is a tall order as well.

Lana Del Rey reveals she kissed huge US singer in new song as she announces big career change

Pop star Lana Del Rey has revealed some eyebrow raising lyrics from her new album as she admitted to kissing a huge singer while revealing her highly anticipated career change

Lana Del Rey has taken a surprise career change as she sang one of her songs for the very last time. The singer, whose real name is Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, is gearing up for the release of her highly anticipated album.

Her forthcoming album The Right Person Will Stay, follows on from Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. The new album is currently scheduled for release next month and will see Lana take a huge turn in her career. She has decided to release a country album in contrast to her previous tracks that have often been labelled as indie pop and alternative, with strong influences from dream pop, baroque pop, and rock.

Lana, who is heading on a UK tour later this year, gave a taste of what to expect while performing at Stagecoach Festival in California this weekend. She performed her new song Husband of Mine as well as 57.5 Million.

The latter track references the number of listeners she has on Spotify and before performing the song she asked fans to listen closely to the lyrics. She surprisingly sang about kissing country star Morgan Wallen in the track before revealing it would be the last time she’d ever sing it.

Lana, who married alligator tour guide Jeremy Dufrene in September last year, said on stage: “I kissed Morgan Wallen. I guess kissing me kind of went to his head. If you want my secret to success, I suggest don’t go ATV-ing with him when you’re out West.”

Before debuting the lyric, she quipped: “This is the last time I’m ever gonna say this line. “

Lana revealed her 10th studio album back in November, hinting at new tunes on Instagram. She wrote at the time: “Happy for you to hear a few songs coming up before Stagecoach. “

She had hinted at the country vibe of her upcoming album, initially set to be named Lasso, earlier this year. Speaking at a Billboard pre-Grammy event, Lana shared insights into the album’s direction as she said: “If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country…

“We’re going country. It’s happening. That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years. “

In a Vogue interview last summer, she further defined her album’s concept, commenting: “All my albums are somewhat rooted in Americana… so I don’t think it will be a heavy departure. “

She added: “If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production – which again, so many of my songs already are. “

Dannii Minogue slams The X Factor over damaging experience and details ‘tough’ schedule

Dannii Minogue has admitted her stint judging The X Factor from 2007-2010 ‘took it’s toll’ and left her drained, calling out the show for their lack of mental health support.

Dannii Minogue has revealed that working on The X Factor UK wasn’t all it was cracked up to be in the height of the show’s fame. The Australian TV star, who was a judge on the show from 2007 until 2010, worked alongside Simon Cowell, Sharon Osborne, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh.

“I definitely had a moment where I was like, ‘If this is what [the show] is – the toll it takes on your entire life – I don’t know if it’s worth it for me. I remember thinking, ‘The show is what it is and I’ve got to step off’,” recalls Dannii, speaking on a new episode of Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place Podcast.

Claiming that she was constantly in rehearsals with the contestants, something the other judges didn’t do, Dannii continues, “The length of the days were so long. We would go straight into rehearsals for the next week’s songs and none of the other judges were there, I was always there at 10am.”

Dannii is currently working on BBC Three show I Kissed A Boy, and says it’s the first time she has worked on a show where production have taken her mental health into account – something she believes The X Factor could have learned from.

“The first time I’ve worked on a TV show – bearing in mind I’ve worked on TV since I was seven – the first time I’ve ever been told, ‘If you need to speak to someone they’re there’, was on I Kissed A Boy season 1. “

“It’s the first time I ever thought that my mental health was important, and was acknowledged. “

“It would have been really helpful back in The X Factor days to have had anything like that,” says Dannii.

During the conversation, host Fearne recalled her shortlived presenting gig on the series’ spin-off show, The Xtra Factor, which she says the lines are ‘blurred’ on whether she left on her own accord or she was fired.

Looking back at the full-on schedule, Dannii says that, after a full days work in rehearsals with the contestants, she would ‘rather stick pins in my eyes’ than appear on The Xtra Factor.

“I’d get home at 1:30 and it would take me three hours to wind down, then they’d say, ‘Do you want to just pop over to Xtra Factor? ‘

“You just want to say, ‘I’d rather stick pins in my eyes’. But, when you’re a viewer at home and you get that extra bit… it was amazing. It just, energy wise, you didn’t get the best of us. “

After leaving the show in 2010, Dannii was replaced by Tulisa Contostavlos on the judging panel. The X Factor was axed eight years later, after making stars out of acts such as One Direction, Little Mix and James Arthur.
