Two killed in Russian attacks on Ukraine before possible talks in Turkiye

At least two people have been killed in Ukraine as a result of Russian drone and missile attacks on Ukraine, according to officials, as Ukraine ordered the evacuation of 11 more Sumy-bordering Russian-area villages.

According to the Ukrainian air force, 109 drones and 42 drones were shot down in Ukraine on Friday and overnight, according to an estimate from the Russian military. Thirty other drones failed to reach their targets without causing any harm.

The attacks occurred as the world was unsure about Kyiv’s participation in a new round of peace talks in Istanbul for the first time starting this week.

According to Zaporizhia’s governor Ivan Fedorov, a child was killed in a rocket attack on Saturday in the front-line village of Dolynka in the Zaporizhia region and another was hurt in the same attack.

“One home was destroyed,” he said. Fedorov wrote on Telegram that the blast’s shockwave also caused damage to a number of other homes, cars, and outbuildings.

Governor Oleksandr Prokudin posted a tweet claiming that a man was killed by Russian shelling in the Kherson region of Ukraine.

Both attacks were not addressed by Moscow.

Authorities in the Sumy region of Ukraine reported that they were evacuating 11 villages that were located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) away from the Russian border.

The regional administration stated on social media that the decision was made in light of the ongoing threat to civilian life caused by border community shelling.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, about 50 000 Russian troops are stationed in the area in an effort to establish a buffer zone inside Ukrainian territory.

Oleksandr Syrskii, the country’s top military commander, claimed on Saturday that the main offensive against Russia was being conducted in Pokrovsk, Torets, and Lyman in the Donetsk and Sumy border regions.

Moscow has repeatedly refuted Syrskii’s claim that Ukrainian forces are still occupying the Kursk region of Russia.

Washington called on both countries to end the three-year war, so the evacuations and attacks came just two days before a potential meeting between Kyiv and Moscow in Istanbul.

Russia has confirmed that it will send a delegation, but Kyiv has not yet accepted the proposal, warning that negotiations would not succeed unless the Kremlin had agreed to terms of peace in advance.

EastEnders star Charlie Brooks has been making the most of her “unemployment”, having spent Friday night at a gig in London. The former Janine Butcher actress saw Martha Wainwright on the UK leg of her tour, when she played at Union Chapel in Islington.

Charlie, 44, left the soap in 2012 but went on to set up her own acting training business, iampro, which offers mentoring and industry classes for creatives. She also took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2011 and was crowned queen of the jungle after winning I’m A Celebrity in 2012.

But aside from some smaller roles, she’s remained off the screen for some time, but she is lapping up her so-called “unemployment”. Writing on Instagram, she said: “Joys of unemployment. Getting to watch Martha Wainwright at Union Chapel with my gorgeous friend @shazzleydazzley for belated birthday celebrations.

Having time to read her book. She was everything and more. x, I appreciate it. The singer-songwriter’s book, Stories I Might Regret Telling You, was among the photos and videos shared by the audience.

Charlie made her first appearance in Albert Square in 1999, and she did so until 2004 before taking the roles in Robin Hood and Beverley Allitt: Angel of Death, where she played a murder nurse. From 2008 to 2012, she worked in the Square.

The mum-of-one returned to the soap in 2022, before competing in Dancing on Ice, alongside Olympic skater Eric Radford. Back in January, she addressed whether a return to Walford was on the cards.

She said, “I’m going right back to Chitty Chitty Bang for a while, and then I’ll probably need a little time off.” I’m not sure about that until we start talking about another theater project.

I’m wasting my time, I promise. Who knows, then? In Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’s UK tour, Charlie starred opposite Coyote Ugly’s Adam Garcia last year.

Kiki Truman Brooks, 20, is Charlie’s daughter with her ex-boyfriend Tony Truman, who she split up with in 2006. However, despite their breakup, Charlie and Charlie are still a good couple. He lives in the Surrey apartment above Charlie’s house.

She and architect Ben Hollington dated for about five years before splitting in 2017. Tonya sobbed when they called it a day because he was so fond of her new boyfriend. She has a more recent relationship with advertising director James Fuller.

Speaking on Yahoo UK’s White Wine Question Time podcast, she said: “My ex partner Ben, who I was with for five or six years, who’s an amazing human being, you know, we woke up on Christmas Day together, all of us. Tony would come down, we’d all get into bed and open the presents together with Kiki, cos she adores Ben, and I think it can be problematic.

I believe he probably has more issues with that sort of things than I do. This is the longest I’ve ever been single, at four years. Then, for five or six years, I spent time with Ben, who was just really accepting. We all took vacations together, and Tony adored him without a doubt. When Ben and I broke up, Tony cried. He sobbed in fact.

United Rugby Championship quarter-final, following extra-time

Munster (7) 24

Cons: Crowley 3 Pen: Murray

After the Sharks’ incredibly dramatic quarter-final of the United Rugby Championship in Durban ended 24-24 after extra-time, they defeated Munster 6-4 in a place-kick match.

The shootout, which involved six kicks from three players from each team, saw Rory Scannell’s missed penalty save the lives of Bradley Davids, Jaden Hendrikse, and Jordan Hendrikse, all convert their two shots at the posts.

With just two kicks each, Conor Murray and Jack Crowley scored for the visitors.

After twice before falling short of the quarter-finals, Sharks’ thrilling victory made it their first time to reach the final four of the competition.

Next weekend, they travel to South African rival Bulls, with Leinster hosting Glasgow in the other semi-final.

A converted Calvin Nash try gave the Irish province a 7-0 lead at Kings Park after the break, but a 10-7 lead was given early by an Ethan Hooker score and Jaden Hendrikse penalty.

Munster appeared to be in control after Josh Wycherley and Diarmuid Kilgallen scored on additional touchdowns, but Aphelele Fassi and Fez Mbatha headed in the opposite direction to give the hosts a three-point lead.

Durban thrill-seeking competition

Munster were seven points ahead of them when Kilgallen weaved his way past three defenders to get the ball to Crowley, who sent a cross-field kick bouncing into the corner.

Makazole Mapimpi was supposed to have it, but it evaded him and was perfectly happy to finish it for Nash.

After the Sharks had been penalized at the breakdown, Crowley pulled his effort wide after adding the extras, but he was found guilty of a bad miss off the tee.

Jordan Hendrikse missed with a 45-meter penalty attempt, but Munster’s team struggled to put their pressure on themselves by putting up a lot of attacks in the first half as a result of a combination of regular handling errors and some obstinate defense.

However, when wing Hooker cut inside and sprinted past three defenders to score close to the posts, John Plumtree’s side were level within six minutes.

When Nash was stopped just short of the line, Jaden Hendrikse’s penalty gave his team a 1-0 lead, but Wycherley’s advantage was dwindling as a replacement prop dipped over with his first touch after accepting a flat pass from Craig Casey.

When substitute Mike Haley passed through, Mapimpi slipped, and Kilgallen won the race, scoring 14 points at the hour mark.

The Sharks went over for the score that would lower their arrears to four as a result of the pressure in the Munster scrum.

The visitors eventually moved the ball quickly to full-back Fassi, who crossed, but they were fortunate not to concede a penalty try.

The Sharks were ahead as their pressure indicated six minutes after regulation time ended. After the line-out, they gained a quick ball, and replacement hooker Mbatha bucked his way over.

Munster weren’t done, so Murray forced extra-time by successfully landing an enormous kick from just inside the Sharks half to bring the game level.
