I met I’m A Celeb star Kelly Brook and it completely changed my opinion of her

PR expert Lynn Carratt reveals how to get to know the woman who is the one who made the headlines as Kelly Brook continues to drift into the jungle on I’m a celebrity.

Like many of us, I first came across I’m A Celeb star Kelly Brook back in 1999, when she burst onto our screens as host of The Big Breakfast with Jonny Vaughan. She was just 19 at the time – barely out of her teens – and thrust into a job that would have been daunting for even the most seasoned presenter.

She’s since admitted she struggled with the pressure and the spotlight back then, and looking back, it’s hardly surprising. It was a baptism of fire, and she didn’t last long in the role – but honestly, who would have at that age? What she did do, though, was become a regular on the red carpet. And who could forget that Julien Macdonald dress she wore to support then-boyfriend Jason Statham at the Snatch premiere in 2000? It was one of those moments that made every front page, and overnight, she became one of the most photographed women in Britain.

Over the years, Kelly’s love life became tabloid fodder – from Jason Statham to Billy Zane, and ex-rugby player Thom Evans. She always seemed to be the glamour girl with the high-profile boyfriends. And then, in 2015, she met Jeremy Parisi and finally found the stability she’d always said she wanted. She gave Hollywood a shot, too. And she actually did better than anyone anticipated. Securing roles in Piranha 3D, The Italian Job (remake), Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, and even a role in Smallville. Plenty of Brits went to LA and came back with far less. As a journalist, I’d interviewed her briefly on red carpets over the years. She was always polite and friendly, but it was in 2012 that she really caught my attention when she launched her New Look clothing range for curvy women. As a curvy girl myself, that resonated. I even went to the launch and bought some of the collection.

However, one year later, while I was living and working in Dubai, I had a profound change in my opinion of her. The team wanted a UK celebrity to host Mahiki’s second birthday party while I was helping with the PR. Kelly Brook’s name was immediately suggested because it was opulent, well-known, and guaranteed to get press.

Although her fee was surprisingly reasonable, the “extras” list made people wonder as I began organizing her trip with her agents. The opulent Jumeirah Zabeel Saray hotel on Palm offers three prestigious suites.

Her four personal security personnel receive an additional vehicle. Anyone familiar with Dubai is aware that it is one of the safest places on earth, so I can recall wondering, “What kind of diva are we flying in?”

Now that the event has ended, she is invincible. She effortlessly turned it on for the audience, making it warm, friendly, and funny.

She posed for every photo, conversed with guests, and cut a very unusual birthday cake with complete enthusiasm. I was expecting diva behavior, but there was no dissent. This time around, seeing her in person completely altered my opinion of her.

Now, as she’s settled into her 40s, it feels like she’s finally grown into the confidence she didn’t have in those early Big Breakfast days. She’s no longer just the former lads’ mag favourite or “girlfriend of…” – she’s carved out her own lane. When she started hosting Heart’s drivetime show with JK, I tuned in out of curiosity. I’d always liked JK from his Viking FM days in Hull, but I wasn’t sure what Kelly would bring as a radio presenter.

And she once more surprised me. She does it with grace, warmth, and sincerity. She appears to have finally found employment that suits her.

And now look at her – happily wedded, embracing challenges she’d once sworn she’d never do. She ran the London Marathon at 45, which is no small feat.

She took on Race Across the World with Jeremy, and despite years of saying she’d never sign up for I’m A Celebrity, she’s gone into the jungle and absolutely thrown herself into it. She’s mucked in with the trials, bonded with campmates, and seems actually to be enjoying the whole experience. She looks great, too – confident, body-positive, and unapologetically herself. Women like me want to see people like Kelly on TV: a woman who owns her curves, embraces who she is, and doesn’t pretend to be perfect. So all credit to Kelly Brook. She’s weathered the ups and downs of fame, reinvented herself, and come out the other side more likeable – and more impressive – than ever. Keep going, Kelly. We’re all rooting for you.

Peter Kay reveals moment he knew he was set to be comedian for life

As he promotes his career and life, Peter Kay has been talking about his life and career.

Peter Kay has revealed the moment he knew he could be a comic and get people roaring with laugher – when he got a big laugh playing a LION at school. In a new Radio 2 interview with pal Sara Cox former Phoenix Nights creator Kay spoke about performing as a youngster.

Sara asked him if he was a bit of a class clown and Kay replied: “Yeah, I were almost more comfortable making people laugh. It always seems that was the only thing I was ever really good at. We didn’t do much performance at school because we had nuns. We had real teachers as well. We had humans, we didn’t just had nuns. They weren’t very theatrical nuns. We used to do an activity…but we didn’t do drama at school apart from an activity. I wanted to perform.

I was always in the choir, but Sister Sledge [Joke name for one of the nuns] objected to me because I gave Mary and Joseph an ensuite with a full English, and she wasn’t amused. But then, I stopped doing anything until I watched Wizard of Oz in my fifth year, where I competed for the lion, and received the lion. That was a real event at the time. I believed people would laugh a lot.

Kay continued, noting that he had missed some dance lessons and was supposed to watch as Dorothy, Tin Man, and Scarecrow performed on stage in the school production. However, Peter had other ideas.

He continued, “So it went on for four nights, and I thought “sod it.” So when it got that far, I got up and started dancing on stage, which received a lot of positive feedback, before going off stage and dancing to my mother. And then I noticed that these third-year girls were dressed as trees on stage because it was a forest. So I jumped up and cocked my leg against them.

Sister Sledge returned after the break and said, “This is not your show, there are other people in the show.” You must consider them. Do you want to be that when you grow up? a comedian And then, her hand windpipe-shaped in the middle made me say yes.

Peter Kay was appearing on Radio 2 as he promoted his new book ‘Peter Kay’s Diary: The Monthly Memoir Of a Boy From Bolton’ and says he enjoys writing despite failing to get GCSE English at school. He has also extended his tour and the final shows next year will see proceeds from his Better Late Than Never shows going to 12 cancer charities.

He also discussed his struggle to lose weight and his comedy heroes in the interview with Sara Cox.

He continued, “I have met them all, and I have been really lucky.” Ronnie Barker and I met. I used to watch Porridge, but I’d always adored it so much. Oh. Anyway, I sent him a letter back. Porridge was something I mentioned and how important it was to me. I thought, “Who has written to me from prison?” when I received this letter one day and it said “prison.”

“And when I opened it, I discovered that Her Majesty’s Prison Slade had written to me as Norman Fletcher in person. And he wrote about nicking this paper from the library when MacKay wasn’t looking and Barrowclough, and he also wrote that this two-page letter was all about being in prison.

“And I also met Billy Connolly.” Billy Connolly is still in touch with me, but he’s not very good right now. Without him, I believe that many comedians in this country would not be able to do what they did. He heavily influences it, in my opinion, in large part. Amazing”.

Sara Cox is on Radio 2 on weekdays from 4 to 7pm while Peter Kay’s Diary: The Monthly Memoir of a Boy From Bolton is available.

Video fallout brought me closer to team-mates – Fernandez

Images courtesy of Getty

Enzo Fernandez, a Chelsea midfielder, claims that his relationship with his teammates was improved as a result of his handling the controversy surrounding the release of a “racist and discriminatory” video.

After winning the Copa America last year, Fernandez, 24, recorded himself and his Argentina teammates singing offensive songs.

Wesley Fofana, a colleague at Chelsea, called the video “uninhibited racism.”

Later, Fernandez thanked Fofana and offered an apology.

Fernandez, who was signed from Benfica for a record-breaking £106,8 million contract in January 2023, apologized to his team-mates both privately and publicly.

Being accused of singing a racist song [is not typical of who I am,” Fernandez said in a statement to GiveMeSport before the episode.

Fernandez, who replaced Enzo Maresca as Chelsea’s vice-captain in the summer, explained how he cut short his post-tournament vacation to apologize in person during their pre-season tour of the United States, and also wrote in a written statement saying he was “truly sorry.”

When questioned about how the episode improved his relationship with his teammates, he responded, “Yes, absolutely. He continued, “My team-mates understood me, but it was a difficult time.”

I didn’t want to hurt anyone at the time because it was so euphoric. It’s just a song that we sing in Argentina as part of “football folklore,” as we affectionately call it.

I made an effort to apologize to the squad and let them know that I don’t make people feel bad about me. They understood my message, and that’s when it all came to an end.

The video, which the French Football Federation (FFF) claimed was “racist and discriminatory,” was a complaint to Fifa that targeted players’ ethnicity.

The Premier League, the Football Association, or Uefa did not impose punishment for it because it was on international duty with Argentina and fell under the control of South American governing body Conmebol.

Peter Kay used cheeky plan as kid to get double school dinners

Peter Kay made a ridiculous plan to serve dinners for two students.

Cheeky Peter Kay has told how he managed to get two school dinners in Bolton thanks to prank she played on the dinner ladies. The comedian, 52, admitted he didn’t hold back when it came to getting as much food as possible growing up.

In a new interview airing on Radio 2 with Sara Cox, he said: “Loved school. I used to like school dinners. I used to get a dinner and I’d give a 50p. And then I’d go and sit down and eat me dinner and then I’d queue up again and say ‘I gave you a pound’. And she’d go ‘oh sorry, did I, did it?’ And she’d give me another 50p and I’d get another dinner! I used to do that. I used to be on packed lunches an all!”

Peter also described how his beloved mother occasionally served him special food items at school. He continued, “My mother used to bring pie in for me.” She used to go to the pie shop in primary school in the morning before a craft class and ask the dinner ladies, “Could you give this to Peter?” Then she would leave it, and the warmth would be kept by the family. How amusing is it that your mother constantly advises you to lose weight?

Kay, who looked in great health during TV appearances last week, also spoke about trying to lose weight and get fit in the interview which took place at the Lyric Theatre last month but aired on Radio 2 tonight.

Kay, 52, responded, “Only for the first 48 years of my life,” when Sara inquired about his weight-loss history. Yes, I eventually had to because, you don’t think about your health and other things like that? But I tried everything, including weight-loss organizations in flames. At one point, I did quite well.

He also recalled how he was first told he could become a comedian when he was just a young child.

He claimed that Mrs. White wrote it on my report card when I was seven years old. Peter prefers to amuse the children around him, according to the statement. I just used to feel at ease, making people laugh, I suppose. But I had no academic focus during the lessons. That was a challenge for me.

Kay responded, “Yeah, I was almost more comfortable making people laugh,” when Sara inquired about whether he was a bit of a class clown. It always seems like that was the only skill I ever excelled at.

Because we had nuns and real teachers, we didn’t do well in school. We had people, not just nuns. They lacked theatricality as nuns. We once engaged in an activity, but we never did drama in school. I desired to perform.

“I was always in the choir, and then I was offered the innkeeper, and then Sister Sledge told me off because I gave Mary and Joseph an ensuite with a full English without making her laugh.” But then, I stopped doing anything until I watched Wizard of Oz in my fifth year, where I competed for the lion, and received the lion. That was a real event at the time. I believed people would laugh a lot.

As a Lion, Peter said he was supposed to watch some second-form girls dance with Dorothy, Tin Man, and Scarecrow on stage in the school production in order to promote both his tour and his new book.

However, he continued, “So it went on for more than four nights, and I thought, “sod it.” So when it got that far, I got up and started dancing on stage, which received a lot of positive feedback, before going off stage and dancing to my mother. And then I noticed that these third-year girls were dressed as trees on stage because it was a forest. So I jumped up and cocked my leg against them.

Sister Sledge returned after the break and said, “This is not your show, there are other people in the show.” You must consider them. Do you want to be that when you grow up? a comedian I then wanted to say “yes.”

Peter Kay was speaking on Radio 2 about his new book, “Peter Kay’s Diary: The Monthly Memoir of a Boy From Bolton.” Additionally, he has expanded his tour, and money raised from his Better Late Than Never performances will go toward 12 cancer charities for the final performances in the year.

Sara Cox is on Radio 2 on weekdays from 4 to 7pm while Peter Kay’s Diary: The Monthly Memoir of a Boy From Bolton is available.
