Sudan army refutes claim that RSF has seized key city of Babnusa

The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) claim that Babnusa, west of West Kordofan, is under the control of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

Sudan’s military administration announced in a statement on Tuesday that it had resisted an RSF attack. The paramilitary group claimed the day before that West Kordofan, a significant city in central Sudan, was in complete control of Babnusa.

The paramilitary force took complete control of the Darfur region last month, and western Sudan at large via Babnusa.

Following a week-long siege, the RSF released videos showing its fighters removing an army base from Babnusa. The SAF maintained, however, that the city was still rife with fighting.

Our forces’ official statement read, “The RSF launched a new attack on the city, which our forces decisively rejected.”

Hiba Morgan from Khartoum reported on Al Jazeera’s Hiba Morgan that the army claimed that the battles are ongoing and that their soldiers are still residing there. However, “the RSF has taken control of that,” is what we can undoubtedly confirm.

She said that if the RSF regains control of Babnusa, it will “solidify its control over the West Kordofan region” and add “any major access ways to the western part of the country.”

According to Morgan, “Bombusa must pass for the Sudanese army to enter parts of Darfur or other parts of Kordofan,” making regaining control of Darfur even more difficult.

Other parts of Kordofan, including the southern region of Abbasiya Tagali, were reported to be experiencing ferocious clashes, according to Al Jazeera Arabic.

Broken “ceasefire”

After capturing the city of el-Fasher, the army’s final holdout in Darfur, the RSF’s assault on Babnusa strengthens the group’s momentum.

Witnesses and international aid organizations on the ground have uncovered a large number of atrocities committed by the RSF. RSF militias are implicated in numerous murders, rapes, and kidnappings, according to evidence.

The RSF’s recent clashes also appear to have broken the unilateral ceasefire that was established following mediation between the “Quad” of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the US.

The SAF has accused the RSF of continuing its attacks despite its declared truce, rejecting the terms of the Quad’s proposed ceasefire.

The government described the announced ceasefire as “nothing but a political and media ploy intended to cover up] the Sudanese people’s ongoing Emirati support and field movements.”

The UAE has frequently been accused of providing money and weapons to the RSF, but it has vehemently refrained from participating.

According to analysts, the RSF will likely move towards el-Obeid in North Kordofan if Babnusa completely falls.

The political shockwave, according to Kholood Khair, the founding director of UK-based risk management company Confluence Advisory, will be sizable if the city falls.

It’s a significant economic triumph, a regional capital, and a huge mercantile center. Additionally, it brings Khartoum’s RSF a few steps closer.

In March, the RSF was ordered to leave the Sudanese capital, with the SAF’s appearance to be on the rise during the more than two-year conflict.

The tables are now, however, turning once more. The SAF now faces a threat of losing Kordofan, after completely losing Darfur with the fall of El-Fasher.

Salah a top professional after being dropped – Slot

Mohamed Salah’s response to being dropped was described by Liverpool manager Arne Slot as “top professional.”

Salah was named on the bench for Sunday’s 2-0 Premier League victory at West Ham following nine defeats in all 12 games.

Since April 2024, he has been dropped for the league under Slot’s successor Jurgen Klopp.

Salah, an international from Egypt, scored only four goals in the top flight this season, despite having the Golden Boot last season with 29 goals.

“That’s a typical response from a player who’s good enough to play for us,” Slot said. “I say that mildly because he has been so outstanding for this club for so long and will be for the future,” he said.

“He wasn’t the only one who wasn’t content that he wasn’t beginning, which is normal.”

Despite being dropped, Slot claimed Salah “handled himself really well.”

He has a lot of discipline, and he knows how to stay healthy, Slot said.

“He will always be that top professional, and that’s what he was in the last two days,” he said. Whether he plays well or not, or whether he plays well or not.

There are times when you spend time with the club that players are human, just like there are with all the players in their own world. He has already scored so many goals for us, and I’m confident he will.

Slot confirmed that Salah will not be available for Liverpool until December 15 when he travels to the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon). On January 18, 2026, the final is held.

Without him, Slot said, “We have to find a way to play,” according to Slot.

Liverpool, the defending champions, are eighth in the Premier League, nine points clear of Arsenal.

Analysis: Salah might miss seven games at Liverpool.

Since Slot has confirmed that Salah will leave for Afcon on December 15, that means that his final game against Brighton is scheduled for December 13th.

Salah won’t travel to Merseyside until at least January 19th if Egypt reach the final.

That would mean he would miss seven games, including the Emirates Stadium match against Arsenal on January 8.

Salah was left on the bench at West Ham after Slot’s refusal to say whether he would leave him out for the following two weeks, but the Reds manager acknowledged the Egyptian was disappointed.

Six-placed Sunderland will be hoping to win at Anfield for the first time since 1983, despite the fact that Liverpool have lost their previous two games at home.

The new year goal of ‘building a better Emma Raducanu’

Images courtesy of Getty

In 2026, Emma Raducanu hopes to improve her base level so she can play chess more frequently and not be so focused on her opponent’s weaknesses.

The British number one has only been training in Barcelona for one month with coach Francisco Roig.

The 2021 US Open champion recovering from light bone bruising in her right foot, which caused her to withdraw from two exhibitions in the United States, has primarily been a gym-based activity in London.

For the first time in her career, the world number 29 turned in 50 matches this season, and she is now anticipating what Roig can improve.

The 23-year-old said, “He wants me to concentrate much more on developing a better base level and Emma Raducanu.”

“I don’t believe I’ve ever done it before,” he said. I’ve always been more tactical, trying to use my own weaknesses when they have them, and being very careless.

“And it works,” he says. The ideal is, however, that you can simply go about playing your game and know you can win. You don’t have to think too much about other players.

He says, “He’s trying to improve my quality by using better technique, better timing, and better movement. Not necessarily by changing my physiological capacities.”

    • November 17

In January, Raducanu will begin the United Cup team competition in Perth in 2026.

She and Roig, who were Rafael Nadal’s team when he won all 22 of his Grand Slam victories, have agreed to collaborate for the duration of the following year.

In addition, Emma Stewart has joined the team for the first time. Raducanu’s strength and conditioning program will also be run by the physiotherapist, at least temporarily.

Stewart is best known to Raducanu from her time working as a physio at the Women’s Tennis Association. Since then, Stewart has worked with British Rowing.

She really helped me with my back in Madrid in 2022, Raducanu continued.

You notice a lot of hip and back issues while rowing, and I’ve a history of back issues. She is aware of how to handle it, and she has aided me in some flare-ups.

“It’s nice and probably different from what I’ve had before,” said the woman who will join the team.

She is “very thorough.” She is aware of my body’s weaknesses when I work out in the gym.

Due to being able to play 22 tournaments in nine months in 2025, Raducanu has gained a lot of confidence.

She had foot problems and illness that prevented her from playing her final two tournaments of the year, but she think she has shown herself that she can handle that kind of schedule both physically and mentally.

And in addition to many other players, Raducanu views the length of the tennis season differently.

She acknowledges it is a “challenge,” but believes it is unfavorable to see top players “moan about the calendar” because of the financial rewards the sport offers.

She continued, “It’s not all glamorous.”

There are times when things are difficult, we are mentally and physically ill, and everything hurts.

What will we do in the meantime, though? I’m sure there are some people who work and are made to do something by their bosses.

“I believe that if we put up a front that doesn’t complain, that will set the stage for our efforts to attract younger tennis players,” said one commentator.
