Wayne Lineker’s year from hell and sad confession before horror illness struck

Wayne Lineker has talked about leaving Ibiza behind and getting rehab, but now he has a life-threatening illness.

For decades, Wayne Lineker was the dubbed the King of Ibiza, the face of lavish pool parties and ‘Instagrammable’ summers at his famous O Beach club. But this year, the party boss, 63, has faced a difficult reality check, swapping the orange cups and bikini-clad crowds for rehab and hospital wards.

In a candid admission shared with fans, Lineker revealed a difficult year that saw him take a step back from his lifelong empire in a bid to stay sober, only to be struck down by a life-threatening illness that left him unable to walk. In October, Lineker stunned followers by announcing he was leaving the Spanish island for good, admitting the hedonistic lifestyle he had built was now “impossible” for him to maintain.

The club mogul revealed he quietly went to rehab earlier this year and is now sober. However, attempting to run O Beach while maintaining his recovery proved detrimental to his mental health. “Living my former Ibiza lifestyle is now impossible for me,” he confessed in an emotional post.

“Being sober makes walking into the ocean very different for me.” I discovered that hiding in the restaurant or leaving early, which is completely uncharacteristic of me.

Lineker acknowledged that the atmosphere, which included “the music, the sunshine, the shows, the dancers, the vibe, the venue, the orange cups in the air surrounded by what seems like an eternity of bikinis,” had become his biggest “trigger” and that he had to leave the company.

Lineker’s life was suddenly in danger due to a sudden, severe health scare just weeks after making the decision. He revealed that he had a “very bad infection” while traveling from Mauritius to Dubai for an anniversary party.

When he returned home to the UK, he was initially thought to have COVID-19, which significantly worsened his condition. He wrote, “I woke up at 3am and was unable to walk at that time.” He was taken to the hospital by ambulance after being concerned that he was going to have a heart attack. He described it as “extremely dangerous” for a man his age and received a diagnosis from a doctor who was able to identify chronic pneumonia. Prior to being moved to a respiratory ward, he spent ten days in intensive care.

Lineker is now “out of the danger zone,” but his long recovery process has been complicated by his severe illness. He described the devastating extent of the pneumonia’s damage, saying that I still need about two months of rehabilitation and physiotherapy.

The stark reality of being confined to a hospital bed is a world away from the spotlight of his former life, but Lineker has found strength in his family – including his brother, football legend Gary Lineker, with whom he recently rekindled their relationship after nearly 20 years of estrangement.

Lineker continued, “Going to rehab was the best decision of my life!… If there is anyone else reading this who is experiencing the same fate, it’s okay to face your demons. Get assistance, please.

Ukraine seeks to shore up support in Brussels, Paris

As Ukrainian and European defense chiefs gathered in Brussels for discussions centered on Ukrainian and collective security, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris to bolster support for Kyiv.

The meetings took place on Monday as a result of a diplomatic blitz to put an end to Russia’s nearly four-year-old conflict in Ukraine.

The two presidents would talk about the prerequisites for a “just and lasting peace,” according to Macron’s office before the meeting.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated that the meeting was meant to “move the negotiations forward” in a statement to La Tribune Dimanche newspaper on Sunday.

If Russian President Vladimir Putin abandons his conceited plan to resurrect the Soviet empire by first annexing Ukraine, he said, “Peace is within reach.”

Ministers of the EU

According to Hashem Alhelbarra, a reporter from Brussels who was present at a meeting of the defense ministers of the European Union who was also present with Denys Shmyhal, the country’s defense minister, wanted a “pact where no part of Ukraine being handed over to Russia as the price they have to pay for a permanent deal.”

The bloc is concerned about a “blanket amnesty,” which would prevent Russian officials from facing charges for crimes committed in Ukraine, Alhelbarra added.

Following a day of talks between Ukrainian and American negotiators in Florida on Sunday, Zelenskyy announced on social media that he had informed Finland’s President Alexander Stubb of the “signals we have received from the American side.”

The Ukrainian leader added that, in line with Mark Rutte and Ursula von der Leyen, the situation is crucial and there is still room for improvement.

Zelenskyy noted that there are still “some tough issues that need to be worked through” during the talks between US and Ukrainian negotiators in the US on Sunday.

It is a step forward from the original 28-point peace proposal, which it and its allies in Europe, for Kyiv.

There is a good chance we can make a deal, the US president declared on Air Force One on Sunday.

He added that Ukraine has “some difficult little problems” as well. In response to a corruption scandal in the energy sector, Andriy Yermak, Zelenskyy’s chief of staff and Ukraine’s top negotiator, resigned two days prior.

More work is required.

The US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, praised the success of the Florida talks, adding that “there is still work to be done.”

There are a lot of moving parts, he said, and there is obviously another party involved, which will have to be a part of the situation, which will continue with Mr. Witkoff’s trip to Moscow later this week.

Rory Challands, a reporter from Kyiv, claimed that Rubio, the country’s most amiable senior official under the Trump administration, was in charge of the negotiations.

The situation seems to be going well for the Ukrainians because Rubio appears to be driving the car right now, Challands said.

He argued, however, that caution was required given Trump’s unpredictable nature and Russia’s unwillingness to follow through on the most recent draft peace plan.

Putin has stated that he will only end the conflict once Ukrainian troops leave four of the regions that Russia illegally annexed in 2022 but still maintains a maximalist grip.

“We’ll use force to achieve this if they don’t withdraw,” he says. That is it, the Russian president said last week.

When they meet in the Russian capital on Tuesday afternoon, US envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will talk about the most recent draft peace agreement.

Russians’ reporter from Moscow Yulia Shapovalova reported that the country generally does not enjoy their visit.

Polls indicate that the majority of Russians “really want an end to the conflict as soon as possible,” according to Shapovalova. On the other hand, Steve Witkoff’s visit doesn’t inspire much interest, she continued.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that its troops had taken control of the Donetsk settlement in Ukraine’s Donetsk region. Independent verification of the announcement was not possible.

deadly attack on Dnipro

According to Vladyslav Gaivanenko, the acting governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, at least four people were killed and 40 others were hurt, 11 of whom were critically, in a Monday Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

According to Dnipro’s mayor Borys Filatov, the strike damaged four residential high-rises and a city center educational facility. He added that there are still ongoing searches and rescue operations.

Before the Dnipro attack, Russia launched 89 strike and decoy drones overnight, with 63 of them being shot down or encircled, according to Ukraine.

Mateta’s Crystal Palace contract talks stall

Since discussions over a new contract are thought to have stalled, Jean-Philippe Mateta’s long-term future is uncertain.

The France international’s current contract expires in June 2027, and sources with reliable information said initial discussions about new terms had begun earlier this year.

However, insiders’ hints that Mateta isn’t ready to commit his future to the Eagles are still ununcovered.

Mateta’s form has helped him join the France squad, making him one of the league’s most dangerous center forwards.

Since making his Didier Deschamps’ side debut in October, he has scored two goals in three games.

The 28-year-old’s current preference is to assess his options after the North American competition, according to BBC Sport, with Mateta now having a good chance of making Deschamps’ World Cup squad.

Mateta would be in a strong position if he had a successful tournament with only a year left on his contract after the World Cup comes to an end in July.

In recent months, several European clubs, including Serie A side Atalanta, have expressed an interest in Mateta.

At a time when Oliver Glasner’s disappointment with the club’s transfer activity has come to prominence once more, uncertainty over his future has emerged.

Glasner has been juggling their first foray into European football with their domestic campaign, which included leading Palace to their first major trophy when they won the FA Cup in May.

The Austrian stated in a Match of the Day interview that “we missed a couple of chances in the transfer window to make it easier for us, but we will stick together and make it better” following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Glasner continued in his post-game press conference, “You should invest rather than save if you play European football for the first time in your history.”

I believe January has already added something. More than 50% of our games will be played.

“Everything was pretty clear and I didn’t say anything,” he continued, “but I think it’s also time to talk about how we missed the chance to play an even better summer.”

Bears bag top spot & boos for Rodgers – best of NFL week 13

This NFL season is the most wide open in years thanks to a lengthy, drawn-out week 13 that included Thanksgiving and Black Friday games.

The Dallas Cowboys are back in business after defeating both teams in Super Bowl 2025 in a week, while the Chicago Bears currently lead the NFC.

The Green Bay Packers are currently on pace for nine straight wins, and a surprise resulted in the Jacksonville Jaguars becoming division leaders on Sunday.

After the Rams letdown, the Bears were in trouble.

This season, almost every team is having trouble with trust. The Rams’ most recent victory came from veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, who had a six-game winning streak.

To kick off the game, Stafford, the NFL’s MVP candidate, completed his 28th straight touchdown pass without making an interception.

Before throwing two interceptions in the first half, including a pick six, he had only two picks all season and made 317 passes without error. Just for good measure, Stafford added a late fumble.

The Rams defense allowed 31 points and produced zero takeaways in its final six games, going from 110 rushing yards allowed in those games to 164 in Carolina. The defense allowed 13 turnovers in those six games.

Who can you trust, then, if you can’t trust the Rams?

The surprising Chicago Bears are the only team in the NFC currently to have five wins in a row and nine wins in ten, which is truly consistent.

The Eagles’ victory on Black Friday in Philadelphia demonstrated their true selves. How did they accomplish this, then?

At age 24, the 2024 first-round draft pick has been excellent in what is frequently a difficult second season in the NFL. Caleb Williams has recorded five fourth-quarter comebacks this season.

The defense has improved recently, allowing 20 points per game over the last four, but their standout is the turnover rate, which is a league-leading 26 and only giving away nine.

Boos for Rodgers’ birthday

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

Aaron Rodgers turns 42 on Tuesday, and despite his struggles on Sunday, he may be wondering what he’s doing while still playing.

The veteran quarterback had a cast on his broken left wrist, a bloody and possibly broken nose, and then his own fans booed him.

The Buffalo Bills’ dominant ground attack, which had accumulated 249 rushing yards, the most by a visiting team in Pittsburgh since 1975, came after the Steelers’ victory over them at what traditionally is their own game.

James Cook ran the Steelers ragged even before it was inevitable, and Josh Allen recorded his 76th rushing touchdown.

The natives became a little restless as Pittsburgh lost their fifth game in seven, which added to one of Rodgers’ worst career games.

After the game, Rodgers said, “I totally get the frustration.” That performance was “boo-worthy,” the reviewer said.

Rodgers had his third-lowest yardage total of 117, which is the fewest he has ever attempted on a throw in his career.

After Baltimore’s 1-5 start, head coach Mike Tomlin is under severe pressure in his 19th season in Pittsburgh, where they should have finished the division. They now face two showdowns with the Ravens to defend the AFC North crown.

What makes the 49ers the best team in the rest?

There are undoubtedly many teams who surprise us, given the nature of the season.

Both the Jaguars and the Panthers, as well as the Bears, Broncos, and Patriots, are formidable contenders in the AFC South.

However, despite the injuries they have sustained, the San Francisco 49ers’ record of 9-4 is impressive, just as impressive was the way they handled one of Cleveland’s best defenses with a 26-8 victory on Sunday.

The Niners’ defense was starting to figure out how to handle without leaders Fred Warner and Nick Bosa, and Brock Purdy was cool, composed, and collected for just their third game of the season.

After claiming three victories in a row, Kyle Shanahan’s team will play at home against the one-win Titans in a perfect late bye on Wednesday. The Colts, Bears, and Seahawks will follow with a difficult victory, but they are far ahead of what many predicted due to their injury issues.

Preview for Week 14: pivotal divisional fights on Sunday

Because there are three games between the top-two teams in their division on Sunday, the schedulers couldn’t have predicted this much better.

Before the end of the season, these rivals will square off in games that could very well determine division titles, though rivals like the Houston Texans and the Detroit Lions might have something to say about that.

Due to the high stakes currently being placed on these sides, matches are typically quite intense, but they will be different because of how much pressure is currently being placed on them.

The biggest games of Week 14

  • Indianapolis Colts (8-4) and Jacksonville Jaguars (8-4) AFC South
  • Pittsburgh Steelers (6-6) and Baltimore Ravens (6-6) AFC North.
  • NFC North: Chicago Bears (9-3)@Green Bay Packers (8-3-1)

NFL Week 13 statistics, records, and games

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Max Brosmer gets tackled by the Seattle Seahawks defence during their game in the NFLGetty Images

Seasons begin to end when four more teams join the Giants and are formally eliminated from the playoffs.

The planning for the upcoming season includes the Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and Arizona Cardinals.

Charlie Smyth, a Saints kicker, made at least one cheery moment with his first field goal of his NFL career and also from 56 yards.

Denver defeated the Commanders in overtime to go 10-2 and record their ninth straight victory. As they attempt to break the NFL record set by the 1984 Chicago Bears, the Broncos defense recorded two more sacks to increase their total to 49 for the season.

In their 20-17 win over Arizona, Tampa Bay plunged deep into the playbook by throwing a touchdown pass to offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs.

The Houston defense again had the star, holding the Colts’ top-ranked offence of less than 20 points for the first time this season, winning 20-16 in Indianapolis.

If the Texans advance to the playoffs, they will be a real headache for anyone because they have only conceded more than 20 points twice this year.
