Louis Tomlinson donates huge sum as One Direction security requires life-saving surgery

Louis Tomlinson has donated a huge amount to help One Direction’s former bodyguard, Preston Mahon, who currently requires life-saving surgery

Louis Tomlinson has helped his former bodyguard, who needs life-saving surgery. Preston Mahon, 54, was regularly seen with Louis and his former bandmates, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik – ensuring the five lads could navigate between their excited fans.

Preston was recently forced to put the brakes on his almost three-decade career helping some of the biggest names in entertainment, including One Direction, Boyzone and Westlife, due to his deteriorating health. Initially, Preston was told he needed surgery on his knee. But after the operation, medics discovered a clogged artery in his thigh. He underwent an angioplasty to clear the clot in his left thigh.

However, the artery has re-clogged and he has been told the NHS cannot intervene until the situation becomes “dire” – until he needs a bypass or an amputation, friends have said. But Preston has now exhausted all of his savings on treatment, and his circumstances have now changed, and he requires life-saving surgery on both of his legs.

The surgery is €35,000 (£30,820), totalling just over £15,400 per leg. And while his nearest and dearest have launched a GoFundMe, Louis, known for his kind heart, has donated £4,000 to the cause.

“I’m so appreciative, it means the world to me,” Preston told The Sun. He has also personally texted Doncaster-born Louis to thank him for his kind gesture. Preston went on to tell the publication: “I can’t thank him enough, wow. I wasn’t expecting that. I sent Louis a text personally saying thank you.

“All the boys from One Direction mean the world to me, I met up with all the lads again at Liam’s funeral exactly a year ago, it was the saddest time ever but a lovely reunion.”

Preston had previously paid to have stents fitted during a private operation in Spain, with the surgery being carried out by the same doctor who helped with his father’s knees in Madrid. Fans of One Direction, who were used to seeing Preston at concerts and outside the lads’ hotels, have all rallied around him on social media.

“We love you Preston,” said one. A second penned: “Louis has donated £4K to the fundraiser for Preston Mahone, who’s worked previously with the band. Preston has lost most of his physical ability and use of his legs.”

Another went on to write: “Louis has donated £4000 to the fundraiser whose goal is to enable Preston Mahon, former security guard for One Direction, to undergo a life-saving operation!” This isn’t the first time Louis has thrown his support behind a cause close to his heart.

Over the years, Louis has supported organisations such as Niamh’s Next Step, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, located in South Yorkshire. Currently, Louis is riding a high following the release of his latest single, Palaces, taken from his upcoming third solo album, How Did I Get Here?

Speaking about his third record, Tomlinson told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1: “Just taking more risk in general, and you need confidence to do that. And I definitely built up a lot of confidence from the tour shows I’ve played recently. You know what it’s like. I left One Direction, and you want to spread your wings and show who you are as an artist.

“And those things are really important, but the motivation behind those ideas is often not correct. And I think from this album, I was ready to embrace all the things that used to scare me.”

I’m A Celeb fury as Vogue and Tom leave campmates frustrated with shake-up

Vogue Williams and Tom Read Wilson have joined the camp – but they were given less than a friendly welcome, as they left their fellow campmates fuming tonight

I’m A Celebrity newcomers Vogue Williams and Tom Read Wilson caused instant tension after arriving in camp and immediately taking charge of the chore rota.

The hit ITV reality show – fronted by Ant and Dec – returned on Thursday night as the celebrities returned from a challenge, having watched Aitch, Ginge and Kelly tackle the ‘Camp Fright’ trial, only to discover their camp had been dramatically transformed

Ginge, Jack, Aitch and Eddie’s comfy beds had been removed and replaced with basic camp beds and hammocks. Two pristine thrones had been set up for the newly appointed Bush Explorers, while the Treehouse — now reserved for the newcomers – had been upgraded with plush beds, soft chairs and even a tannoy system for speaking to the camp below.

Vogue and Tom wasted no time settling into their luxurious new surroundings. Vogue teased Tom as they explored the space, telling him: “You’re posher than Spenny]Spencer Matthews], you’re the poshest person I’ve ever met”!

But their arrival didn’t go unnoticed by the rest of the camp. Ruby admitted in the Bush Telegraph that she could feel a shift, saying: “I think the dynamic is going to change now with the two chiefs here, I really do feel like it’s kind of Lord of the Flies, there’s two sides and we may annihilate each other, or we may fall in love”.

Sensing the shake-up, Jack confided his concerns to fellow campmates. He said: “I feel resistance to Vogue and Tom, I’m just kinda like, ‘ Hey you don’t get to walk in halfway through the movie and decide to turn it off or change it… ‘”

Once everyone gathered around the campfire, Vogue and Tom unveiled the new chore list – and it certainly raised eyebrows.

Kelly and Martin were assigned as the camp chefs, with Vogue and Tom explaining that Kelly looked a little bit like Nigella. Ruby and Lisa were put in charge of washing up, while Eddie and Ginge were given responsibility for the water supply. Alex and Aitch were tasked with collecting wood. That left Jack and Shona to take on the least glamorous job in camp: dunny duty.

Vogue Williams, 40, is a presenter, podcaster and former reality TV star. She also co-hosts the hit podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me and has hosted shows like The Big Deal. Vogue is married to Made in Chelsea alum Spencer Matthews. The couple shares three children together: son Theodore, a daughter named Gigi Margaux, and a younger son, Otto James.

On joining the show, she said: “I always thought I wouldn’t do it, because I’ve gotten too comfortable in my life. I like to have eight hours of sleep, I like to eat nice things, I like to just chill out and I never put myself out of my comfort zone.

“Then when I turned 40, I started to get scared of ridiculous things. I didn’t want to be this person. Doing this is such a massive life experience and it is not something you can pay to do. So now I am 40, I think it will be pretty cool to do I’m A Celebrity.”

Meanwhile, Tom Read Wilson is probably best known for appearing on Celebs Go Datingwas a contestant on the fifth series of The Voice UK. He said:” My first thought when they approached me about taking part was abject terror, “said the 39-year-old”. But I have got a very strict rule in life. If the only reason that you don’t want to do it is fear, you must do it, whatever it is.

“I’m fearful as a porcupine and I am very nervous that my grey cells]brains] won’t dance properly in camp, too. At home, I do a cryptic crossword every day, I always have a book on the go and I am a bit worried that my frontal lobes will drop off if I don’t have a lubricant for it”.

He continued: “I can be vague at times and I don’t want to scatter brain cells over the camp”.

Strictly Come Dancing star arrested on suspicion of rape

A Strictly Come Dancing star has been arrested on suspicion of rape. According to reports a woman met the man due to his participation on the scandal-hit BBC programme. The report comes less than three months after a star of the BBC show was arrested for rape.

The alleged incident is said to have taken place last year. The woman who made the allegation was not a contestant or a professional dancer on the programme.

The man cannot be named for legal reasons. The man was arrested on Monday, October 13, on suspicion of rape and remains under investigation. A source close to the programme said: “This is an absolute nightmare for the BBC – a heartbreaking situation.

” Bosses have done their utmost to steady the ship and make the show as scandal-free as possible, and yet now this has happened. “They added that bosses at the BBC are taking the allegation” seriously “and will be offering support to those involved.

Meanwhile, another source told The Sun:” The series is due to go ahead as scheduled in 2026 but, of course, safeguarding measures are at the heart of all BBC shows in this current climate. And we will always adapt as necessary. “

Hertfordshire Police said:” A man was released on police bail under investigation having been arrested in London on Monday 13 October on suspicion of rape.

“The allegations relate to an incident which happened in Hertfordshire during 2024. Meanwhile inquiries by officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Public Protection team will continue. Given the nature of the allegations, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time”.

A spokesperson for the BBC told the Mirror: “It would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing police investigation”.
