Villages in East Java are now covered in ash and mud as a result of a volcano eruption. After Mount Semeru erupted on Wednesday, residents are having trouble clearing their homes and streets. It is one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes and is located near the Pacific Ring of Fire.
Carlos Sainz, the FIA’s executive director, says that Formula 1 drivers “urgently” need a meeting with the governing body.
The McLaren driver, who is a director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA), called the 10-second penalty given to Oscar Piastri at the previous Brazilian race “unacceptable.”
Sainz claimed Oscar wasn’t at fault for the collision between Piastri and Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli, who pitched the Antonelli into Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
Everyone who has actually driven a race car knows that he could have avoided an accident there and that he was fined ten seconds.
Sainz claimed there have been several instances this year where drivers have been subject to penalties for actions that do not merit punishment, including three in which he was allegedly involved with Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls in the Dutch Grand Prix, Oliver Bearman of Haas in Italy, and Antonelli of Austin.
On the day before the Las Vegas Grand Prix this weekend, Sachin said, “I didn’t understand my Zandvoort penalty.”
“I didn’t understand why Ollie was penalized for our collision in Monza,” she said. I immediately told him out of the race because he was not meriting that punishment. I had no idea how I could capture ten seconds in Austin. Then there’s the Brazil situation.
“This year, there have been a lot of incidents that are far from what the sport should be,” I said.
The drivers will meet with FIA stewards at the upcoming race in Qatar to review what Sainz’s team-mate Alex Albon called the “list” of incidents that they believe need to be looked at.
After what I saw in Brazil, Sainz said, “It’s very clear for me that it’s something that’s not quite working if we had to determine that as a 10-second penalty for the guy who had no fault for anything that he did.”
Stewards are given a difficult task by the FIA at the start of the year in terms of interpretation of the driving standards’ guidelines.
These were put together after the drivers’ consultation, but the GPDA did not approve them before publication.
Drivers generally believe that the rules are being strictly followed, without using common sense and practical knowledge to explain how wheel-to-wheel racing operated.
Piastri was fined because he repeatedly failed to adhere to the rules for his front axle, at least in the incident’s aftermath, and had locked his brakes to avoid being deemed out of control.
However, Sainz claimed that he “struggled” with how the guards interpreted a locked brake.
A steward interprets a lock-up as out of control, he said. A “lock-up” doesn’t always mean out of control. You can lock up and maintain your apex.
Oscar locked up in Brazil as a result of Kimi’s actions, and I locked up in Austin as a result.
“We weren’t going to miss the apex crash and cause a significant accident,” the statement read. Therefore, I believe that the way those lock-ups are interpreted as being “out of control” needs to be changed.
There is a bit of a wording or a view that a car is deemed to be out of control, according to Mercedes’ George Russell, a fellow GPDA director.
The car’s interior is always empty, and the tires are never even on the ground, causing the tyre to lock up in Brazil, but you are in complete control.
Therefore, there must be guidelines and you must treat each and every corner, every circuit, and incident in particular.
Russell argued that the FIA should designate permanent stewards to improve the situation.
Albon continued, “The FIA’s” approach to it is not ignorant. An open-minded attitude is displayed in the form of “OK, please, let’s work together and come up with a solution.”
Both Jessie J and the Princess of Wales have battled cancer for the past few years. They shared a sweet moment at 2025’s Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall.

The Princess of Wales and Jessie J shared an emotional moment together at the Royal Variety Performance, after both battled cancer over the past two years. Meeting at the star-studded show held at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday (19 November), the pair spoke as the royal couple greeted a line of performers.
Jessie wore a full black outfit to go with her long, dark hair, which she wore in her song I’ll Never Know Why, which was inspired by a friend’s tragic suicide. Kate, who was elegantly dressed in a green velvet gown, and the 37-year-old exchanged a brief conversation.
The two men exchanged a heartfelt hug at the conclusion of their conversation because of cancer they had experienced previously. After having a mastectomy in June, Jessica was earlier this year diagnosed with breast cancer. She later had to postpone her fall tour because a second operation was in order.

Kate has recently been diagnosed with cancer, too. In March 2024, she made the announcement that she had been given a cancer diagnosis and was receiving chemotherapy. The Princess has slowly begun to return to public life, but this was her first performance since she was diagnosed with cancer.
She thankfully discovered in January that the cancer was in remission despite not revealing what kind of cancer. She wrote on social media, “It is a relief to now be in remission and I continue to focus on recovery.”
Jessie, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, said as she explained their hug and that she only wanted to give her a hug because she has recently battled cancer. We made it clear that it was difficult, especially in the eyes of the public.
Kate’s husband, William, the Prince of Wales, and Jessie also had a conversation. He encouraged her to get involved with his charitable work on the subject because it was a talking point during their conversation.
The Prince and Princess’ Royal Foundation is heavily involved in the enduring Heads Together initiative, which encourages people to be more open about their mental health.
The singer has also spoken about mental health, revealing last year that she had been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). The condition, according to the NHS, is a mental health disorder where a person has obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours. Jessie said her diagnosis had made her love herself even more, writing on social media: “I’m hugging 11-year-old me.
Who would use a toothbrush to clean her trainers when she was stressed out and who has used 1000 lists to survive without feeling life will fall apart? To a deeper understanding of yourself through life. And being completely in love with yourself.

OPEC+ predicts a balanced market despite the International Energy Agency’s warnings about an oil surplus in 2026.
Next year, the world might produce more oil than it needs.
Oil typically falls as a result of an oversupply. That means lessening the costs of consumer transportation, shipping, and travel.
The OPEC+ group has previously appeared to ignore concerns about a glut. It had been putting more barrels on the market to regain market share after cutting its output. The group is pressing the pause button on additional output for the first quarter of 2026 because its new forecasts predict that demand will only match supply.

In an effort to spur innovation, the European Union has begun to relax its expansive regulations governing artificial intelligence and data privacy.
The European Commission’s unveiling of what it refers to as the “Digital Omnibus” on Wednesday marked the start of a battle between tech companies worried about red tape and privacy advocates worried about digital rights being eroded.

The bloc would allow tech companies to use anonymized personal data to train AI models and postpone the introduction of stricter risk-management and oversight regulations for “high-risk” AI until 2027 as part of the reform package.
The changes, which amend the AI Act and a number of other privacy and technology-related laws, would also lower website pop-ups that ask for cookies’ permission and lessen the requirements for small and medium-sized businesses to submit documentation.
The changes, according to EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen, require the 27 EU member state representatives’ approval to bolster European competitiveness due to simpler rules governing AI, cybersecurity, and data protection.
We have “a large internal single market, strong infrastructure, and talent.” However, “our businesses, especially our start-ups and small businesses,” Virkkunen said, are frequently stifled by bureaucratic regulations.
The move was welcomed by lobbying organizations for tech giants in the United States, who have voiced their disapproval of Europe’s regulatory framework.
The Computer & Communications Industry Association, which includes Google, Apple, and Meta, reported that the Omnibus misses important opportunities to raise the outdated compute threshold for identifying AI models that pose a “systemic risk” and fails to address problematic language regarding the extraterritoriality of copyright provisions, which conflict with EU and international standards.
Meanwhile, advocates for privacy rights criticized the reforms as a capitulation of Big Tech.
The founder of Vienna-based rights organization NOYB – European Center for Digital Rights, Max Schrems, described this as “the biggest attack on Europe’s digital rights in years.”
It is obvious that the commission is incorrect when it claims that it “maintains the highest standards.” It makes the suggestion to “unify” these standards.
The proposals, according to Gianclaudio Malgieri, an associate professor of law and technology at Leiden University in the Netherlands, marked a shift away from a rights-based approach to tech regulation that had made Europe unique from the US.
Former Wham! Shirlie Kemp, a backer, and Martin Kemp, the father of EastEnders legend and I’m A Celeb star, have two children named Roman and Harleymoon. However, the couple had a relationship during a vacation and fell in love.

Shirlie Kemp has shared how a request from her son Roman saved her family from being caught up in a catastrophic natural disaster. The former Wham! backing singer, 63, and Spandau Ballet bassist Martin were planning a family holiday back in 2004.
The family’s “very spiritual journey,” according to Shirlie, a mother of two. Roman, a presenter for The One Show at the time, had his sights set on a trip to the Bahamas where he could slide through a sea of sharks.
On Travel Secrets the Podcast, Shirlie disclosed that Roman’s insistence led the family to choose a Caribbean getaway over Thailand in 2004. This was the year when the Boxing Day tsunami wreaked havoc around the Indian Ocean, claiming the lives of around 200,000 people across 14 countries, including Thailand, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
We did not want to go there, according to Shirlie during the podcast because Roman wanted to go to the Bahamas, the Atlantis Hotel, and we did that. And he was obsessed, and he requested that we go, “Please let us go, we can go through a slide and go through sharks.”
I wanted to travel to Thailand and spend a lot of time there. When the tsunami struck Thailand, Roman was successful in doing so. Never have I been so appreciative of your children. He’s like, “Come on, mum, come again,” when I fell down the slide.
There were some risks in Martin and Shirlie’s holiday adventures. When Shirlie ended up rolling a Mini during a rally through a rice paddy during their three-week journey to Vietnam, Martin described a hair-raising incident where he was encased inside the overturned vehicle and was taken to the hospital.
He recalled that “you have to go through these rice paddies because we’re on this big rally within a rally and we’re on this big rally.” I’m navigating while Shirley is driving. You have to put your foot down because it’s a race, which is kind of a time trial. Shirlie puts her foot down as we get going.
Someone told me before we left that if you crash, never hold on to the roll bar because you can get trapped inside because we were in this old Mini. Shirlie places her toe down in the rice paddy, and the entire car turns around and we are upside down in the rice paddy.
What should I do since there is no water in the rice paddy? Grab the roll-bar. Therefore, my hand has been stowed between the rollbar and the roof. Shirlie has since unbuckled herself and fled. I’m trapped upside down in the middle of nowhere in a car that has just been filled with gas and glass.
When Martin saw that his hand had “gone blue,” he was concerned he might “lose my fingers” or something. On the other hand, Shirley recalls being “screaming” until two rice field workers noticed their predicament.
The former soap star was saved and transported to a hospital that resembled “like a little shack.”
Shirlie further explained that the car rolled because Martin’s knee “unintentionally” “knew the navigation system, which prevented her from being notified of an upcoming sharp bend.” She continued, “I’m going too quickly and there’s a huge tree in front of us, and if I don’t, we’re going to have to roll this car.” We will be killed by that tree.
Fortunately for Martin, sensation returned to his hand “a few weeks later”. The Gold singer is currently appearing in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!on ITV One.
