Love Island fans have hit out at some of the islanders following scenes on tonight’s episode of the ITV2 show, in which Shakira Khan had to save herself from being dumped

Viewers have criticised some of the islanders on this year’s Love Island following scenes that aired in tonight’s episode. They have complained over one islander being the subject of “snarky” comments and being excluded.

Shakira Khan had been left single in last night’s launch episode after Ben Holbrough, who she had been coupled up with, was ‘stolen’ by bombshell Toni Laites. Host Maya Jama announced that she had 24 hours to get a different boy to couple up with her or Shakira would be dumped from the villa herself.

During tonight’s episode, Shakira was seen getting to know some of the other islanders before the potential recoupling. Fans however criticised some of the other girls, complaining that they were excluding her and making digs.

One fan commented on X: “What are these snarky remarks about Shakira? it’s giving insecure.” Another viewer said: “The girls excluding Shakira like it’s somehow her fault that Maya says she has graft or she goes home.” A third said: “Ok it’s giving mean girls.”

Someone wrote: “This energy from the girls towards Shakira is giving insecure.” Another questioned: “Why they being mean to Shakira tho.” Defending her, one fan said: “Um why are they so shady towards shakira?? how is any of this her fault.” Another said: “They are mean girls…Shakira is not doing anything wrong.”

Not everyone felt the same though. One fan said: “Am I the only one who feels like the girls weren’t even being mean or anything but yall love a mean girls clique storyline.”

At the end of the episode, several boys stood up when asked by Maya if they felt that they had a “stronger connection” with Shakira than their current partner. She ended up choosing to couple up with Harry Cooksley, which meant that Sophie Lee, who he had been with, was dumped from the villa.

Belgium will be ‘shaking in their boots when they come to Cardiff’

Wales winger Sorba Thomas says Belgium will not relish a visit to Cardiff for the return World Cup qualifier after Monday’s dramatic and pulsating game in Brussels.

Belgium were leading 3-0 inside 27 minutes at the King Baudouin Stadium but Craig Bellamy’s side staged a tremendous comeback to level the game.

Kevin De Bruyne’s late winner broke Welsh hearts to secure a 4-3 victory for Belgium and inflict a first defeat under Bellamy, who was “beyond proud” of his players for their efforts.

“That’s a team that’s top 10 in the rankings and people were saying ‘little old Wales’ – we took the game to them,” Thomas said.

“They are going to be shaking in their boots when they come to Cardiff to play us, because we’re not the same Wales they played all them many years.

“We’re hungry, we’re a young group and I thought when it went to 3-3 it was in our hands.

Belgium, who have played two games less than Wales, will travel to Cardiff for the return on 13 October.

Thomas said Belgium did not show Wales “that much respect” after going 3-0 in front and the home side thought “that the game was done”.

But Thomas added: “To be honest, when they went 3-0 up we still had belief.

“If you look at the game, every time they scored we literally went down the other end and almost got a chance.

“I think going in at half-time 3-1 they probably thought the game was done. I think they relaxed and they underestimated us.

“The second half showed there was only one team in the game and that was us.

The result leaves Wales second in Group J, a point behind North Macedonia who won 1-0 in Kazakhstan – Belgium are third, three points further back but with those two games in hand.

Thomas’ first senior goal for Wales came only a few days after he completed a move from Huddersfield Town to Stoke City.

“For me personally it’s been one heck of a week, secured my future and got my first Wales goal,” said Thomas, Wales’ player of the game in Brussels.

“I’m pleased but I wish the result would have gone our way.

Brazil’s Bolsonaro testifies before Supreme Court over alleged coup plan

Brazil’s far-right former President Jair Bolsonaro, testifying for the first time before the nation’s Supreme Court, has denied involvement in an alleged coup plot to remain in power and overturn the 2022 election result that he lost to current leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Bolsonaro, 70, and seven of his close allies were questioned by a panel of top judges on Tuesday as part of a trial over allegations that they devised a multi-step scheme to keep Bolsonaro in office despite his defeat to Lula.

Bolsonaro and his co-defendants risk prison sentences of up to 40 years in a trial dubbed “historic” – the first ever for an attempted coup under a democratic government in Brazil.

“That’s not the case, your honour,” Bolsonaro replied on Tuesday when asked by Judge Alexandre de Moraes – an arch political foe – about “the truthfulness” of the accusations against him.

“There was never any talk of a coup. A coup is an abominable thing … Brazil couldn’t go through an experience like that. And there was never even the possibility of a coup in my government,” Bolsonaro claimed.

The plot only failed, the charge sheet says, due to a clear lack of military backing.

Bolsonaro, a former military officer himself who has been known to express nostalgia for the country’s past military dictatorship, openly defied Brazil’s judicial system during his 2019-2022 term in office.

On Monday, Bolsonaro’s former right-hand man Mauro Cid – a co-defendant who has turned state’s witness – told the court Bolsonaro had “received and read” a draft decree for the declaration of a state of emergency.

He then “edited” the document, which would have paved the way for measures to “redo the election” and also envisaged the imprisonment of top personalities including Moraes, said Cid.

Cid also testified that he had received cash in a wine crate from Bolsonaro’s former running mate and Defence Minister Walter Braga Netto that investigators say was earmarked to finance an operation by special troops to kill Lula, his Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and Moraes.

‘My conscience is clear’

Apart from Cid, the other co-defendants are four ex-ministers and the former heads of Brazil’s navy and intelligence agency.

Most who have taken the stand so far have rejected the bulk of the accusations in the charge sheet. The defendants are standing trial on five counts: attempting to stage a coup, involvement in an armed criminal organisation, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, aggravated damage and deterioration of listed heritage.

A coup conviction carries a sentence of up to 12 years. When combined with the other charges, the accused could be sentenced to up to 40 years behind bars.

Two former army commanders have claimed Bolsonaro hosted a meeting where the declaration of a state of emergency was discussed as a means of overturning Lula’s election victory.

Bolsonaro has denied all the charges, saying he is the target of political persecution.

He has already been banned in a separate court ruling from running in elections until 2030 over abuse of power while in office and casting unfounded doubts on the country’s electronic voting system. However, he is still hoping to run in the 2026 presidential elections.

“They have nothing to convict me; my conscience is clear,” the former leader told reporters on Monday.

Almir Garnier, who was Brazilian Navy commander under Bolsonaro, denied the former president had discussed the declaration of a state of emergency with military officials.

He also denied offering Bolsonaro any Navy troops.

The Supreme Court headquarters in Brasilia was one of the targets of a rioting mob of supporters known as “Bolsonaristas” – who raided government buildings in January 2023 as they urged the military to oust Lula, an insurrection attempt that evoked the supporters of Bolsonaro ally United States President Donald Trump on January 6, 2021.

Bolsonaro was abroad in Florida at the time of this last-gasp effort to keep him in power after the alleged coup planning fizzled. But his opponents have accused him of fomenting the rioting.

Judges will hear from 26 other defendants at a later date. The court has already heard from dozens of witnesses in hearings that began in mid-May.

Kanye West bizarrely ‘changes name again’ four years after complete rebrand

Kanye West, also known as Ye, is said to have changed his name for the second time in recent years, with the rapper’s latest name reportedly disclosed on business documents

Kanye West, also known as Ye, has quietly changed his name for the second time in recent years. The rapper’s latest name is said to have been used on legal documents related to businesses associated with him.

The musician, 48, is reportedly referred to as Ye Ye on documents filed with the State of California by his chief financial officer, Hussain Lalani. It comes after he had previously become known as Ye, with it announced that he had legally changed his name to that in 2021.

His apparent latest name hasn’t been publicly announced by him, though. It’s said to have emerged when his businesses filed a Statement of Information, which provides up-to-date information for an entity, such as addresses and directors.

The US Sun, which has reportedly seen the documents in question, states that Ox Paha Inc now calls him ‘Ye Ye’ on them. It further claims that his clothing brand Yeezy Apparel, as well as his music businesses Yeezy Record Label LLC and Getting Out Our Dreams Inc, are also referring to him by that name.

It adds that the business headquarters of Ox Paha Inc., Yeezy Record Label LLC and Getting Out Our Dreams Inc. has changed. It was said to have been a church in Northridge, Los Angeles, that burnt down after being left vacant by him, but is now reportedly listed as the office building in the city of Los Angeles that he bought in 2023, reports the Mirror US.

The news comes after he announced earlier this month that he would be making a new account on X to reflect his name Ye. He shared his plans in a post on June 1.

He wrote in a message to his followers on the platform: “Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest Twitter cause my name is Ye. Gonna start a Ye account and it is what it is.”

It came after Piers Morgan mentioned his handle on the platform during an interview last month. The rapper had walked out of an interview on Uncensored.

He left after Piers said that he had 32 million, rather than 33 million, followers on X. The host later issued a correction, but within minutes of the interview starting, he had left.

Piers later suggested that it happened before he could ask about antisemitism and other topics. Ye – who in tweets weeks later said he was “done with antisemitism” and that he loves “all people,” as well posting “God forgive me for the pain I’ve caused” – having been criticised for comments and other actions in recent years. Just last month, it was reported that he had released a song titled Heil Hitler (Hooligan Version).

Host Piers told fellow guest Sneako after Ye left: “Tell him from me he’s a snivelling, little coward, and he’s an anti-semite and a Hitler worshipper. That’s what I would have asked him if he’d had the b***s to sit there and take the questions.”

One fan later wrote on X: “Piers Morgan calling him ‘Kanye West’ is exactly why Ye left the interview.” Piers reacted to the suggestion by saying: “His X account name is @kanyewest …” The rapper has since shared plans to stop using the @kanyewest on the platform.

£400m spent but who made early moves in mini transfer window?

PA Media

After a busy 10 days and £400m spent the transfer window has officially closed for Premier League clubs – a week before it opens once again.

This summer has seen an unusual, two-part transfer window to allow clubs to sign players for the Fifa Club World Cup which begins on Sunday, 15 June (01:00 BST).

A second will open on Monday, 16 June, before closing on Monday, 1 September at 19:00 BST for Premier League, EFL and Scottish Premiership clubs.

Fifa rules state a transfer window cannot last more than 16 weeks in a calendar year, hence the split this summer.

Manchester City and Chelsea are the two Premier League clubs competing at the Club World Cup in the United States, but any team from a league with sides at the tournament could participate in the window.

Chelsea & Man City strengthen for Club World Cup

The biggest signings of the summer so farBBC Sport

Premier League clubs have already spent £400m in initial transfer fees before the new season. That dwarfs the tallies of top-flight clubs in Germany, Spain, Italy, France and Saudi Arabia.

There’s still a long way to go to match last summer’s final tally of £1.98bn spent by Premier League clubs on player transfers, while the record outlay of £2.36bn was set in summer 2023.

Chelsea begin their Club World Cup campaign against Los Angeles FC on 16 June, while City play Moroccan side Wydad AC on 18 June.

Both sides have new faces in their touring party, with City landing Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri for £31m and bringing in goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea as cover.

They also announced the signing of attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki from Lyon before the deadline for an initial fee of £30.45m.

Chelsea have spent more than any other club so far, splashing out initial fees of £89.5m on Liam Delap (£30m), Dario Essugo (£18.5m) and Mamadou Sarr (£12m), while Estevao Willian (£29m) will join after agreeing a move a year ago.

Manchester United are not in the Club World Cup but have made the most expensive move yet, spending £62.5m on Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.

Real make case for their defence

Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool holds up the Premier League trophyEPA

Bournemouth to the Bernabeu is not a well-trodden path in football history but Real Madrid have spent £50m on Cherries centre-half Dean Huijsen.

The Spanish giants activated his release clause, with the Spain international having as many as seven offers on the table, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle.

Real, of course, also chose to spend £10m to bring forward the long-awaited signing of Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold so he could feature in the United States.

The 26-year-old would have been able to leave Liverpool on a free transfer when his contract expired on 30 June.

But Real moved early thanks to the financial incentive of the winner of the 32-team tournament potentially earning up to £97m in prize money.

Any other big moves?

Liverpool replaced Alexander-Arnold with Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, while the Bundesliga side took goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Brentford.

The Bees in turn signed Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher, while across the city Everton turned forward Carlos Alcaraz’s loan move from Flamengo into a permanent one.

Top CFPB enforcement official to resign amid policy shifts under Trump

The top remaining enforcement official at the United States Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has tendered her resignation, saying the White House’s overhaul of the agency has made her position untenable.

Acting Enforcement Director Cara Petersen, who has served at the agency since its creation nearly 15 years ago, said that current leadership under US President Donald Trump “has no intention to enforce the law in any meaningful way”, according to an email first obtained by the Reuters news agency.

“I have served under every director and acting director in the bureau’s history and never before have I seen the ability to perform our core mission so under attack,” Petersen wrote in an email.

“It has been devastating to see the bureau’s enforcement function being dismantled through thoughtless reductions in staff, inexplicable dismissals of cases, and terminations of negotiated settlements that let wrongdoers off the hook.”

Petersen’s departure comes four months after the agency’s enforcement and supervision chiefs also resigned amid efforts by President Donald Trump to dismantle the CFPB.

An agency spokesperson and Petersen did not immediately respond to requests for comment. In addition to seeking to cut the CFPB’s workforce by about 90 percent, acting Director Russell Vought and chief legal officer Mark Paoletta have said they will slash agency enforcement and supervision and have dropped major CFPB enforcement cases en masse, including against Capital One and Walmart. The agency has even revised some cases already settled under the prior administration.

The dramatic changes come as Republicans have complained for years that the CFPB, created in the aftermath of the 2007-2009 global financial crisis, is too powerful and lacks oversight. Democrats and agency backers contend it plays a critical role in policing financial markets on behalf of consumers.
