Leicester’s second ODI

England 366-6 (50 overs): Jones 129 (98), Beaumont 106 (109)

West Indies 223 (45.4 overs): Grimmond 53 (72), Capsey 3-41

England defeated 143 runs to win the three-match series 2-0.

In the second one-day international in Leicester, England defeated West Indies by 143 runs to set up Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont’s second successive centuries.

Jones hit a stunning 129 from 98 balls after dropping 43 in her first international debut, while Beaumont hit 106 in England’s imposing 366-6.

After posting a 222 in the opener, the pair added 202 in 29 overs, before Emma Lamb’s 55 and Sophia Dunkley’s 31 from 19 balls capped yet another utterly dominant batting performance.

The tourists fought back to 223 all out in 45.4 overs in a match that was made even more lonesome by the absence of Windies skipper Hayley Matthews due to a shoulder injury.

Realeanna Grimmond, who made her ODI debut, had a spirited 53 from 72 balls with two sixes, and Jannillea Glasgow, who had an entertaining 44 from 24, but the outcome was a foregone conclusion because of the gulf between the two teams.

England’s bowling attack struggled to find breakthroughs in the middle overs as they struggled to overcome West Indies’ lack of attacking intent, with Alice Capsey finishing with 3-41 and Linsey Smith and Lauren Filer both taking two wickets each.

Sloppy Windies are punished in ruthless England.

Although Edwards’ decision to reinstate Jones at the top of the order initially sparked some unease, it has turned out to be a masterstroke.

She threw two fours at Zaida James before leaving without looking back. The two actors previously played opposite roles, with Beaumont moving through the gears with a little more caution while Jones repeatedly hit the accelerator.

Jones showed signs of nerves at Derby, where she had lost chances in 91 and 92, but she now oozed confidence right off the bat.

Beaumont scored a fifty from 64 before she kicked on to reach three figures from 106 balls with a six that sent sailing over long-on, making England’s joint-third fastest in women’s ODIs.

The hosts relentlessly punished West Indies’ inexperienced bowling attack, which struggled to build any consistency or dot ball pressure throughout. This was the first time an opening pair hit back-to-back scores in the history of the format, both men’s and women’s.

In the first 10 overs, Jones’ chances should have been taken by Grimmond at cover, and the bowling skewed both sides of the wicket.

After being eventually dismissed by spinner Karishma Ramharack, England had established a record-setting 378-run lead, before Grimmond, who had a spectacular one-handed catch, delivered the tourists’ highlight as England accelerated to the final five overs.

There will undoubtedly be more difficult tests to come for England’s new opening pair and for number three Lamb, who made a 41-ball fifty, despite the confidence that will come from posting 346 and 366 consecutive games.

England’s bowlers struggle through frustration.

From the moment Matthews’ omission was announced at the toss, the situation resembled that of a woman scurrying around the Leicester boundary while wearing a coat and a bobble hat and chatting to the fielders in what was likely an attempt to offer much-needed encouragement or advice.

With her explosive opening partner Qiana Joseph also absent, and the experienced duo of Deandra Dottin and Chinelle Henry completely missing, their batting effort did little to lessen the concern.

There was little else on which England could base its bowling on other than the exceptional short ball, which was particularly impressive when she whacked Lauren Bell for two powerful sixes over the leg side.

England did not bowl well, but considering their superiority in every way, they should have bowled the West Indies out despite them only scoring one shot in disbelief at halfway.

Filer bowled at a lively pace, reaching 77 mph, and was unfazed by his untimely injury return. When she hit the target, she slammed through Jahzara Claxton’s defenses for 18 and Afy Fletcher’s for eight in a matter of one over, putting England on the verge of victory.

The response to “The future is bright”: “The future is bright.

Shemaine Campbelle, the captain of the West Indies, said, “It was nice to see the young players playing today and playing a positive brand of cricket.”

We wanted to “bowl into good areas” before starting. Unfortunately, it didn’t go the way we wanted, and we worked hard to do it.

Amy Jones, the player of the match: “It’s quite funny how it’s turned out after a lot of games. I enjoyed today and think it’s cool to work with Tammy Beaumont.

You must rely on your luck to open a business. I did that today, but I’m pleased to have her run around.

On BBC Test Match Special, former England captain Alex Hartley reflects, “It’s encouraging to see that the future is bright and that there is competition for the spots.

You once had a sense of who would be playing every game. It could also change at any time.

Birmingham aim to reach Premier League next year – Wagner

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

Tom Wagner, the chairman of Birmingham City, says that the ultimate goal is to win the Premier League next year and that he is open to the possibility of hosting domestic cup competitions abroad to raise money.

The League One champions celebrated their highest point total in a season in 2024-2019 by breaking the EFL record for that time frame. In an exclusive interview, the American businessman told BBC Sport he wants to increase his ambitions for a top flight runoff “as soon as we can.”

Wagner thinks the Blues will be “highly competitive” in the Championship with plans for a new stadium receiving a significant boost on Tuesday following the government’s confirmation of £2.4 billion in investment in local transport links.

After being demoted from the Premier League, Leicester City, Southampton, and Ipswich Town will each receive almost £50m next year.

“Unique opportunity”

After the government approved a new tramline to a planned “Sports Quarter” in the east of the city, Wagner’s hopes for a new 62, 000-seat stadium to replace St. Andrews significantly increased.

Owners of the club, US investment firm Knighthead Capital, have been trying to persuade ministers to give the West Midlands billions of pounds to build new transport links for the regeneration project. Wagner founded the group and wants to build a 125-acre sports and leisure complex on abandoned land in Bordesley Green.

Wagner says the goal is for the “transformative” Sports Quarter, which will also include a 20, 000-seat arena, hotel, and training complex for the club’s men’s, women’s, and academy teams, to be open by 2030. He also pledges between £2 and $3 billion of private investment.

Wagner argued that “we needed the transportation links to make the site viable.”

“This will be a unique venue for entertainment,” he declared.

“We have a fantastic opportunity. It would be difficult to find another city with such a large land area in western Europe where a project of this size could be built.

The goal would be to host a wide range of international competitions, not just football but also American football and rugby, according to the statement, “This will be a venue that is used 365 days a year.”

Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion, owns Birmingham City in part because of it.

When asked if there was a chance the new stadium would cause more expensive tickets for fans, Wagner responded, “If you price out the fans who are here, you lose the singing, you lose the passion, and then you’ve lost your product.

The answer to growing commercial revenue isn’t solved by raising ticket prices; rather, it’s solved by creating a better product, as the people’s club has been taught.

Former Birmingham City manager Garry Cook stated last year that playing a league game against Wrexham, a rival team owned by the US, on American soil would be “a great idea.”

Wagner said, “I don’t believe it makes sense to do it necessarily with regular-season games.”

When asked what he thought might be the subject of some domestic cup competitions in the US, he responded, “It’s something that needs to be thought about.”

When you consider the top-tier Premier League clubs, they compete internationally, which means they must have global fans and scale revenue, and if doing so means playing some games abroad to increase the club’s following and revenue, I believe that’s a good thing.

It’s a very balancing act because you have to find a way to do it that doesn’t harm your neighborhood. There is a very fine line to be crossed, but I believe it needs to be carefully considered for the best clubs.

Perhaps there is a different tournament or a circumstance that permits that, perhaps at a different time during the season. Beyond just the pre-season tours, there are a number of options that can be pursued.

Wagner responded to fans’ questions about the number of English clubs currently owned by US investors by saying, “The reason Americans are drawn to investing here is because it’s English football.

USA to face international players in NBA All-Star game

Images courtesy of Getty

The NBA All-Star game will pit a USA team against other teams in “some form” next year.

The 2026 Winter Olympics, which are being broadcast by NBC in the United States on February 16, will host the game.

The NBA All-Star game will now start in the afternoon, with broadcast rights to the Winter Olympic games following.

What better time is there to feature some sort of USA against the world? Adam Silver, the commissioner of the NBA, said on Wednesday.

Silver, who spoke to Fox Sports, said he “payed a lot of attention to what the NHL did” in February by hosting the 4 Nations Face-Off rather than an All-Star game.

He also echoed his comments about the men’s basketball competition at the Paris 2012 Olympics, where Team USA only managed to take home a fifth straight gold after contests with Serbia and hosts France.

In recent years, there has been a decline in interest in the NBA’s All-Star game, and even a change in format failed to stop the decline.

Viewership dropped by 13% from 2024 to the second-lowest TV audience in 25 years despite four teams competing in a three-game mini-tournament.

Although there was a Global Stars team, it had been suggested to add a more international element starting next year, especially since there are already so many NBA players from other countries.

Love Island 2025 will show sex scenes as Islanders divided by new rule

ExCLUSIVE: Executive producer Mike Spencer has predicted that the new series will have its most exciting year yet, and these two brand-new islanders are divided on the new “twists and turns”

There is one thing dividing Meg Moore and Sophie Lee’s opinions before they both enter the villa.

Hold onto your bikinis, because Love Island is heating up like never before. After a decade of drama, declarations, and duvet-diving, ITV’s sun-soaked hit is back – and this time, sex is on the table. Literally.

Yes, it will be visible. After giving an exclusive tour of the villa, executive producer Mike Spencer said, “If sex happens, we’ll show it.” The Hideaway is open daily.

Forget fumbling under the covers – this year, the cameras aren’t blinking. Mike added: “We need to keep the show fresh and exciting. After 10 years, the stats speak for themselves. The show will continue to thrive. We the producers need to stay ahead of the curve. The whole ‘twists and turns’ thing is about making the show fresh. We’re going to give it all we’ve got.” Well, mission accomplished.

Host Maya Jama, back with her signature sass and slay, said: “I feel like they forgot last year that you could come in the Hideaway at any time. We did tell them, but they kept forgetting!” Not anymore, Maya.

And what do this year’s sizzling singletons think? Megan Moore, who goes by Meg, is a 25-year-old payroll specialist from Southampton, told us: “It’s not ideal to be having it on telly, but you don’t know because you’re in that bubble. If it comes naturally, then it happens. You can’t ever never say never.”

Meanwhile, Sophie Lee, a 29-year-old former fire breather, influencer and motivational speaker from Manchester, is taking a different route: “I am celibate. I’ve practiced celibacy throughout my dating life. It’ll take a really hot guy to change that! For me, intimacy is giving a piece of my soul. If I’m not in a confident place, it’s a me problem – not his.”

I’ve now been more than 8 months celibate, having previously been celebate for two years, and I’m proud of that. Not out of fear, I only want to have sex when I really want to.

This summer, Meg enters the villa in search of romance, and she is putting her passion on payslips.

Before she even steps foot inside the villa, Meg, who calls herself a “girl’s girl” with a heart of gold, is already making waves. She insists she’s “not your typical Islander,” and that she’s refreshingly honest and somewhat chaotic. She could be exactly what the villa needs with her “mum of the group” energy.

She told us, “I thought I’d be more nervous, but I actually feel really chilled.” “I’m so excited because it’s getting real right now.”

Meg kept it natural, aside from a new set of hair extensions, unlike many Islanders do cosmetic preparation. I don’t do a lot of filler, I guess. She claimed that she had a little trouble two years ago, but that’s it.

Meg is ready to give it all when it comes to love. “I’ll go for a man if I want one.” She exclaimed, “Hate the game, not the player.”

How has Meg fared in her romantic life? She admits that her relationship with her partner was “a bit of a shambles” and attributes poor hygiene to previous relationships as a major irritant. She is now prepared for a boyfriend and a little drama.

Sophie says her confidence has come over time(Image: TikTok/Sophie Lee)

While Meg is bringing the fire, Sophie is no stranger to it too. After suffering life-changing burns when she was 22, the model is channelling that traumatic time into her superpower.

She explains that losing body confidence has taken a journey. I previously declined to participate in the program because I wasn’t prepared. I still needed to do some inner work. I’m now feeling confident, beautiful, and proud. Not just how you look, your beauty is. You could feel beautiful while carrying a bin bag. It’s about how I feel inside, in my opinion. I’m at a point where I can handle rejection and trust that it’s okay if something doesn’t work for me.

Rangers on verge of Martin appointment – what can fans expect?

Media PA

Rangers are close to putting together a deal to succeed Russell Martin as manager.

The 39-year-old was chosen as the frontrunner in a process that included the club speaking with former Feyenoord manager Brian Priske and former Real Madrid assistant manager Davide Ancelotti.

Martin will succeed Philippe Clement, who replaced him with Barry Ferguson in February.

Matt Gill and Rhys Owens, as well as former Rangers defender Maurice Ross, are expected to join the former MK Dons, Swansea, and Southampton manager at Ibrox.

What kind of play does he play?

Martin himself stated on the BBC’s Match of the Day last month that “how the style of play will fit” and “how convinced are the ownership and people in charge with how we do things” be key factors in choosing a job.

That suggests that he still believes in his philosophy.

John Walker, a football coach and analyst, has done a thorough analysis of Martin’s managerial career and thinks that many people don’t understand his style.

He told BBC Scotland, “I believe there is a misconception that possession is very passive for possession’s sake.”

“To me, whenever I watched MK Dons, Swansea, or Southampton in the Championship, it was actually really forward attacking play,” said one player.

It moved very quickly. Although the patterns weren’t exactly the same as Postecoglou’s Celtic, it wasn’t too dissimilar.

Because I think it’s a style of football with aggression that can work in Scotland, I’m so happy for him to take over Rangers.

Is Martin too dependent on just one approach?

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

Postecoglou and Martin both accuse one another of being reluctant to adapt. However, Angus Gunn, the former team-mate of the latter and Norwich City, would disagree.

In the English Championship, Gunn faced Martin’s Southampton team on the way to a failed Premier League appearance.

The Scotland goalkeeper described them as “a tough team.” We played a few good games to them, they said. One was 4-4, and the other was 1-1, which was quite striking.

They were quite open when we first played them, they said. Then, when we played them again, they showed some skepticism, which I believe demonstrates a coach’ ability to adapt and modify the way his team plays.

“Watching his teams over the course of the few years he was in charge, I believed he did it, despite the fact that some people likely claimed he was reluctant to make significant changes.”

I thought he did that well, particularly in the Championship.

The former Scotland defender’s story was that he was too resolute and needed to adapt, especially when he was playing for Southampton in the Premier League.

The former Rangers’ defender’s response was consistent.

He told BBC Sport, “There is a difference between having conviction and being stubborn.” As a coach, manager, or leader, it follows logic for me to stick with something and strive to improve.

Squad overhaul necessary to match your style?

With new funds available following the takeover led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, it seems like there will be a significant, if not seismic, change in Rangers’ squad personnel.

But how large would that be in order for Martin to put his ideas into practice?

Walker insists Martin would not be alarmed by such a task, but that he would need to see a complete overhaul of Rangers.

Walker said, “I don’t think many of the players that are currently there will survive.” I believe Swansea made 17 signings when he arrived, with 18 players leaving over the summer, according to my memory.

“There were 20 people wanting to leave when he entered Southampton.”

He has the experience of quickly implementing the style of play and building a squad. If he joins, I anticipate a significant squad overhaul.

“I believe that with the play, you’ll also have teething issues and a lot of goals will be conceded.”

Have your opinion expressed

Do you believe Martin would succeed as manager of the Rangers?
