Alleged Money Laundering: Court Refuses Yahaya Bello’s Travel Request

Yahaya Bello, the immediate-ex-gouverneur of Kogi State, requested the release of his international passport, but justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja refuted the request, claiming that the medical report that was included with the application did not contain a signature.

Justice Nwite, however, determined that the application was not an abuse of the court process, contrary to the testimony of the prosecution team.

The defendant had requested that his travel documents be made available so that he could get medical care in the United Kingdom. &nbsp,

The defendant’s attorney claimed the defendant had known about 15 years of hypertension from its counsel.

According to the attorney, Joseph Daudu, SAN, Exhibits A and B, which constituted an expert report on the applicant’s health status, were presented, claiming that sufficient evidence had been provided to allow the court to exercise its discretion in its favor.

The prosecution team claimed that the application was a violation of the court procedure, but the judge also made reference to that claim. &nbsp,

The prosecution’s counsel noted that the reliefs sought were comparable and that the motion was technically ineffective because the defendant’s sureties were not informed while urging the court to dismiss the application.

The court determined that Yahaya Bello v. FRN, rather than Yahaya Bello v. FRN, was the subject of the case’s contention regarding suretyship. &nbsp,

The judge ruled that the defendant should not be a part of the application and continued to support the counsel’s argument.

According to his assertion, “the counsel to the complainant did not reference any section of the law that requires sureties to be given notice or to be included in the motion on notice.”

The counsel’s claim that his argument was supported by no law, whether local or global, was supported. &nbsp,

The complainant’s claim that the current application constitutes abuse of the court process is supported by the claim that the court process is being abused.

The applicant’s standing trial before this court and FCT court is undisputed, and it is undisputed that the applicant was arraigned on December 13, 2024, and on December 19, 2024, in this court and FCT High Court.

In its decision, the FCT High Court stated that the applicant must request court permission. This is not, therefore, evidence of court process abuse.

Additionally, Justice Nwite argued that “coordinated jurisdiction exists between this court and the FCT High Court.”

However, the court determined that Exhibit B, which was a doctor’s medical report, lacked any legal authority because it had not been signed by its author. &nbsp,

An unsigned document is deemed useless and has no legal weight, according to the Court. &nbsp,

The judge argued that Exhibit B lacks any probative value and cannot be relied upon by the Court.

The defendant hasn’t presented sufficient evidence to this court for the release of his passport. In consequence, Justice Nwite stated that this application is hereby rejected.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has refuted online allegations that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be canceled for school candidates.

The reports were described as “false and mischievous,” according to a press release released on Sunday on WAEC’s official X handle, and WAEC appealed to the public to discredit them.

The Council criticized the rumor, which claimed that the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with WAEC, had cancelled all papers as a result of widespread examination malpractice.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria), was called to the release, which read, “The WAEC, Nigeria, has been informed that all papers have been canceled for the just-completed WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025. The WAEC Management wishes to reaffirm unwaveringly that the Council did not publish the false press statement. The exam has not been canceled, according to the statement. The Council is certain that the false claim is being spread by mischief-makers who are determined to discredit the Council and cause confusion and panic among those who took the test, despite the uncertainty surrounding the source of that information.

IGP Orders Tight Security As Retired Officers Begin Nationwide Protest

All Commissioners of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the nation have been given maximum security by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to facilitate the planned peaceful protest by retired police officers.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force’s public relations officer, made this known in a statement.

He also warned against spreading false information about the Monday protests that are scheduled to take place nationwide.

The IGP stated on Sunday that the protest should serve as a model for dignified expression of grievance and that the rights of our retired officers who have chosen to protest must be protected.

According to Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, some stories were purposefully altered to defame the Nigeria Police Force’s current leadership and undermine the Federal Government.

He claimed that retired officers had been urged to leave the 401(k) contribution pension system in recent memory.

According to him, he claimed that while agitation had been supported by previous IGPs, progress had been hampered by interagency friction, statutory limitations, and fiscal constraints.

He warned against “disruptive and manipulative” attempts by some individuals to politicize the retirees’ complaints.

He continued, “It is disappointing to watch how some actors have chosen to politicize a sensitive welfare issue by using obscene means to sabotage our retired colleagues’ legitimate grievances.”

Therefore, the IGP gave the order to all CPs to ensure that the protest was conducted peacefully within their respective jurisdictions, particularly in the FCT and other states where formal notice has been given.

He directed them to sensibilize officers and men under their control regarding the constitutional rights to peaceful assembly, prevent any hijacking of the protest by miscreants, political actors, or non-retired agitators, and provide adequate security coverage to retired colleagues who had chosen to publicly express their grievances.

He urged the CPs to respect their retired colleagues as much as they did when deploying intelligence and operational resources to safeguard institutional integrity, maintain public order, and protect lives.

Troops Arrest 62 Suspected Oil Thieves, Confiscate Over 350,000 Litres

The 6 Division, Nigerian Army, has increased its crackdown on illegal refining activities with significant successes in four states: Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, and Akwa Ibom. The troops of the 6 Division have been conducting significant military operations in the Niger Delta to combat oil theft and pipeline sabotage.

With the removal of six illegal refining sites close to an abandoned wellhead in Joinkrama 4 and Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State experienced the most significant breakthrough.

Additionally, the troops seized six ovens, reservoirs, and receivers with more than 300,000 gallons of automotive gas oil (AGO) and over 300,000 gallons of crude oil that had been stolen.

Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the acting Deputy Director, 6 Division, Army Public Relations, signed a statement revealing the development.

The statement stated that the operation took place between July 14 and July 20, 2025 as part of a joint effort with other security agencies.

Our troops have disrupted illegal refining operations as well as destroyed their crucial supply networks, the statement read.

In the Obiafor, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), troops discovered several dug-out pits, two of which contained more than 5,700 litres of crude oil that had not been identified.

At the riverside, two boats loaded with ten sacks of condensates were also spotted.

A Sienna vehicle without a license plate was intercepted while carrying 32 sacks of AGO that had been stolen in Elele Town in the Ikwerre LGA.

On the same axis, troops discovered a dug-out pit filled with 1,200 litres of condensate, along with hoses, drums, and metal ovens, as well as an illegal connection point and a dug-out pit on the same axis.

Danjuma reaffirmed the Army’s commitment, saying, “We will defeat the enemies of Nigeria’s economic stability with continued support and intelligence from locals.”

He claimed that in the Yenagoa LGA, four dug-out pits and four illegal refining sites were constructed around Biseni in Bayelsa State.

Five processing cooking ovens were destroyed during the raid, while over 10,000 litres of stolen AGO were recovered.

Two suspected oil thieves were apprehended on Gana Road in the Sapele LGA after Delta State troopers moved from Javel Sharp Sand Waterside based on reliable information.

The suspects were found with 30 bags weighing more than 1,500 litres of illegally refined AGO on two boats.

Further, the statement confirmed that the troops “continued to dominate the operational landscape,” effectively deterring illegal refining operations and guaranteeing criminals’ lack of freedom of movement in Akwa Ibom.

Major General Emmanuel Emekah, the general officer commanding the 6th division, commended the troops for their efforts, and urged them to continue to press on saboteurs and criminals in the area.

Emekah remarked that the troops must maintain the operational tempo while keeping economic saboteurs at a minimum.
