The bandits, who are thought to be numbered over 200, stormed a security base in Kuchi, a town in Munya LGA, on May 28. This led to a bloody battle that saw the neutralization of many of the bandits who had fled with various injuries.

VIDEO: How My Dad Was Killed In Kaduna When I Was 10 — Interior Minister

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the interior minister, made a note of the events that led to his father’s 1992 death in Kaduna State on Thursday.

Tunji-Ojo, who spoke on Channels Television’s special program Youth Forum to mark President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office, claimed his father was killed when he was just ten years old because he claimed he was killed during a religious crisis in the state’s north-western state.

The minister argued that the minister, who raised him alongside his other siblings, had to continue his education.

Due to issues that involved internal security, I lost my father. My father was killed in Kaduna in 1992 because of whatever religious reasons he had: he was a convert to Christianity.

He said, “That made me lose my balance and brought me back to the cradle, and growing up with my mother was difficult.

The minister, however, claimed that despite the difficulties he faced, he chose to face his obstacles and launch a profitable business before he entered the government.

He praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to reform the economy during the event.

He continued, “I’m pleased that Mr. President came and made two decisions. What we were spending today was the future, prior to Mr. President’s approval.

When we were appropriating money, I was in the National Assembly. Your revenue was primarily used for debt servicing, not for repayment.

How Govt Can Protect Songs From Pirates — Harrysong

The government should implement effective mechanisms to safeguard artists’ work and combat widespread music piracy, according to Nigerian singer Harrysong.

The Afrobeats star made the call on Thursday during the Youth Forum segment of Channels Television’s special program to celebrate President Buo Tinubu’s second year in office.

Key players and government officials addressed issues in fields like education, health, business, and the creative industry with the theme “Pressing Issues Affecting Nigeria’s Youth.”

Harrysong, who spoke on the topic of the creative sector, argued that open dialogue between policymakers and experienced industry players is essential to solving these issues during a panel discussion.

“The government must work with those who are knowledgeable about the industry.” I think we will advance if we can have that conversation and they are willing to address the issues, he said.

The “Reggae Blues” singer stressed the importance of a strong organizational structure to ensure accountability and transparency in the sector.

He remarked that it becomes challenging to reinvest profits locally or to hold lucrative concerts in Nigeria without such systems.

We require a system lock to control both what enters and exits. We can sell the tickets if we can protect the music. However, he continued, “We can’t recoup investments or plan shows confidently” if the songs were stolen.

Artists Rely On International Platforms Despite Struggle

Due to the prevalence of music piracy, Harrysong lamented that many Nigerian artists are unable to generate revenue from their local fan bases, leading many to look for employment abroad.

You’ll hear musicians complaining that our citizens don’t buy tickets the majority of the time in Nigeria.

People outside the country pay to pay for the music, subscribe, and stream it. However, the sound is being hacked by our home-based citizens. You don’t even receive the money you paid for that song, he said.

The singer cited the transparent revenue models of platforms like iTunes and Spotify, which artists frequently rely on to make money in nations like the United Kingdom.

You’ll be able to see how many people are purchasing the music when you check your iTunes backup from London, the UK, and other countries. Nigerians here, on the other hand, make an effort to avoid paying extra for the same song. He said that’s where piracy comes in.

Nigeria’s music industry, particularly the Afrobeats style, has long had a significant international following, with several local stars dominating international charts and stages.

However, there is a price for this rise in notoriety. Numerous Nigerian artists are now shifting their music’s focus to international markets where more money can be made from their music thanks to better digital infrastructure and copyright protections.

Selling out global venues like the O2 Arena in London has become the new standard of success for artists like Asake and Wizkid, with some sayings more impressive than playing live shows there.

However, the Lagos State Government made the announcement in 2024 that a 12, 000-capacity entertainment arena would be constructed by December 2025 in an effort to reverse this trend.

Content Creator Decries Harassment By Security Agents

Eric Gugua, a content creator, has called for an end to this menace in the country by criticizing the ongoing harassment by security agents.

He said, “Cospirators go through a lot of things in terms of protection.” This space is still expanding, they say. Policies that specifically take people in this area into account must be put in place in terms of protection. We need to know that the government is more than just rolling out initiatives and making promises in that way.

A time has come when we realize that the government is interested in creating digital content and influencers. They are subjected to harassment whenever they go out to shoot content. He asserted that if it were coming from law enforcement, it would be from the local population.

Devaluation of the Naira

Niyi Akinmolayan, a filmmaker from Nollywood, attributed the devaluation of the naira to the devaluation of the naira.

The guest filmmaker on the program claimed that the main reason the streamers left was due to the program’s decision to devalue the naira. He also attributed blame to the government for ignoring the effects of these streamers’ withdrawal.

We as filmmakers simply woke up and saw emails from the big streamers who had left the Netflix and Amazons and who were unaware of some of these changes, such as the government’s concern that these aren’t just some random companies, the government is aware, the government taxes these people, how come the government isn’t even aware of some of these changes?

“Typically, people will make movies because they are aware of the existence of a future revenue stream, but that has vanished. The government didn’t take any action to warn people that the reason they left was largely due to the devaluation of the naira and the fact that paying the price they were paying for the license became a big deal, according to Akinmolayan.

Nigeria Can Compete Globally In Agriculture — Kayo-Ajayi, Canada-Based Entrepreneur

Toyin Kayo-Ajayi, the founder of the Canadian Black Farmers Association, asserts that if it uses its plentiful resources, Nigeria can compete internationally in the agricultural sector.

During Channels Television’s Youth Forum, a live interactive program, Kayo-Ajayi made the statement on Thursday.

He claimed that countries around the world are highly sought-after for agricultural products like yam and vegetables grown in Nigeria.

He declared, “I will tell all the youth that Nigeria will be a very beautiful, industrial country in the next ten years. Even so, I’m going to move back home.

“Nigeria has such a wonderful country. I had to make the conditions that Nigeria’s have here (in Canada). I’m going to pack it in bags and ship it across Canada because I just created loamy soil in Nigeria.

“We can control a lot of things globally with agriculture alone,” says Nigerian President. I’m researching whether or not our vegetables are herbs.

“I’m trying to grow yam in Canada,” I say. Although I must protect the environment, Nigeria has it in abundance.

He criticized the notion that farming was only available to those with academic success while describing his agricultural career.

What dissuaded me from farming in Nigeria was the instruction to me when I was in school that “you can’t become a farmer if you don’t study.” It sounded like a curse. &nbsp,

He continued, “I went to the farm with my grandparents from the age of five, six, and seven, and I saw the benefits of farming, which is a profession that will never go out of style.”

With the focus on “Pressing Issues Affecting Nigeria’s Youth,” the Youth Forum organizes discussions with experts and youth leaders on issues affecting young Nigerians in fields like business, education, health, industry, and other fields.

As President Bola Tinubu and several other governors in the state mark their second years in office, it provides a platform for youth engagement.
